I made the wallet you made out of a shoe! The leather I have laying around is much softer so it was a bit difficult to saddle stitch. I only had embroidery floss so I waxed it first and it worked petty good. 👍🏻

Not necessarily, the best suede you can have it’s actually rough out leather but not as the one he showed in this video, you can actually distinguish rough out suede from regular suede because the texture will be softer, the color will be more solid and even if it’s softer you can actually feel more body in the rough out suede leather.
It’s not that easy to know them apart, but as a guy with leather and shoe experience, I’m telling you that it can be done and it’s actually worth to pay for those kind of items.

a side effect of nubuck leather is that with the timbs I have they get shiny spots with wear. most of the tongue is smooth leather, and a whole ton of other small patches have this half-matte half-shine thing that's kinda cool. my understanding is suede is light weight , nubuck is heavy weight. same thickness, suede is lighter
i think suede is by product when leather split, its supple, and iirc my suede shoes last 3-4 years, rubber sole give up before suede part
dunno how to condition suede, thats why not trying another suede after that lol

Materials have become more and more important to me as I have grown up... I have shoes with Suede or Hairy Suede, Pig suede. I even have a shoe with what is claimed to be Wolverine Suede. I would LOVE to know the difference between all of types of materials. I also have shoes (mostly Ronnie Fiegs) that have a nubuck that is almost oily to touch. It's not wet at all but is soooo smooth and soft it feels wet. It's crazy I am very interested in knowing more about ALL TYPES of materials. Thank you sir.

Quality is the wrong word to use here. Nubuck is tougher than suede, but that's not the same as saying it's by default higher quality. Suede is generally softer and more pliable than nubuck, which in some products are more desirable than pure toughness. I would probably not buy a pair of nubuck boat shoes for example, and for something like gloves it depends on what you're looking for. Do you want though more work style gloves, or nice more comfortable gloves.

Nice video. Very informative. But please help me; I can't get a shine on my leather work boots to save my soul. I'v tried everything known to man and experimented with every technique and medium for years, right out of the box boots and old boots. Is it me or is it the leather? It's almost as if the supple leather is too porous and the wax or polishing oils never completely dry. I generally wear Red Wings, Carolina's, and ThouroughGood's. When I was a kid in the 70's and 80's, they would always shine up to a mirror finish. Your help would be greatly appreciated

Suede is much more durable . Im wearing nubuck shoes 10-15 years and nubuck is very delicate to mechanical demage , water, snow, shampoo with water, cleaning foam too. - Little bit more water or longer wet and demage of velvet top layer is 100% comming soon. 3-4 moths and
shoes go to trash sometimes .
    Dry cleaning /
Use only Crepe!!! brush ,never another brush ! - (will develope patina and nubuck will looks like smooth leather) , nubuck-suede eraser .
Wet cleaning/ (little bit risky for nubuck , good for suede-velour )
Foam (shampoo with water is more risky) with soft toothbrush or nubuck sponge (famaco daim nubuck sponge...) , clean small areas and quickly ! dry with microfiber cloth . If dry ,use Renovator and the most important is Waterstop!!! spray.

Looking for incite on whether the suede 500 blundstones are a waste of $ practicality / leather quality wise & function / waterproofing (cause I liked the looky & rough waxed patina potential😩)...seems from what ive gathered here it’s probably a fashion vs function thing longevity wise but I’d love to hear from someone who’s used them before I return them. What’s probably a red flag = I noticed the inside is fully lining w a kind of fabric batting, prob bc the suede is weaker vs the reg 500s. Same price too. They come nicely waxed / treated and claim they’re water resistant same as regs but havent grilled them yet

My ignorance... I always believed suede to be more high quality than nubuck. Thank you for correcting this!

But why is it that many times you find fancy products made (or advertice) as suede like jackets, elegant showes etc.? Why is it that it's ruined by rain?

A pair of shell cordovan shoes is more expensive than the same shoes in calf leather. Is it worth it to pay the extra premium price?
