I hated how they rushed award winners and even rapid-fired off others. Like they really couldn't give them time to accept their award at least? Best RPG couldn't get an award presentation? Best Action? Best Fighting Game? Best music score? Nope, we get randomy celebrity presenters and random talk about nothing to waste minutes on instead.
But hey at least we got a Muppet skit... again? Seriously I'm happy there's more game trailers than ads, but the amount of screen time for awards this year specially was a joke.
It's so good too! He clearly thought about doing it for the bit immediately, then struggles to remember ASL letters, so goes to google them real quick. I (Regrettably) don't understand sign language, but I was watching it smiling the whole way through. Then I realized that I didn't see the actual trailer so I had to rewind a bit. Good on Zeke for championing accessibility, even in spirit!
Redfall was a "Publisher told us we need to have GaaS title" made by Arkane Austin. Blade is single player game made by Arkane Lyon. They've made Dishonored and Deathloop.
Seeing Max Payne walk up on stage as a real person still does something to me. I wonder if a remake of Max Payne would be in order (and would work) today. It's been so long and the game expanded with modern tech and assets would be so goddamn fantastic.
He say that Sam smiling put his off like...Its Max Payne smiling! Honestly, on that point, i don't blame him BUT....This is a really happy creator being able to fully realize his vision, be celebrated for it, and then get to dance up on stage in front of a crowd with the character he created....something no one else has ever done!!
Geoff is really going hard to legitimize the "award show" by getting random celebrities and his friends on stage while actual devs get 30 seconds to thank a team of sometimes hundreds of people. But hey muppets and teal´c got to play out their skits and that's what real important. There is so much unnecessary you could have cut from the runtime but the people getting the awards getting beaten off stage so Geoff can run handheld ads so he can buy the most famous people he knows to his stage.
Yeah, the presenters kept going on and on and on and on, they really needed to usher off most of the presenters off the stage to speed things up and give the actual winners more time.
Cohh's hair splitting about Arkane was kinda uncharacteristically dumb. Yeah, they're both "Arkane". They're also both different studios, with quite literally the Atlantic ocean between them. Does he apply the same logic when "Ubisoft Montreal" or "Ubisoft Shanghai" make a game? They're part of the same company so they will help each other out where needed, share notes and tech, and so on - but they are different studios.
The wrap up thing needs to be something more subtle. They need to know they need to wrap up, but the entire audience doesn't need to know. Also as big as their audience is, it could be so much bigger if they changed the time so it's not on at midnight in Europe. Then they really could do Zeke's 'less adds and charge more' idea.
Using music to indicate that they need to wrap up is not conceptually bad and is pretty typical for award shows. The problem is the time given to the winners. All of them should be given at least a couple minutes to talk uninterrupted. Sam Lake got less than a minute before they started playing the music, that's ridiculous.
First off great stream, you guys have one of the best 3 peice host dynamic in podcasting. AW2 and BG3 ran away with it and well deserved to both. I find it sad that so many awards were rushed. I hope that next year there will be less celebrities and more devs accepting awards or just a longer show if needs be. Peace
2:15:43 Having to take out your in-ear monitoring? Yeah, something went definitely wrong. :/ but kudos to the singer! She made it work without a hitch. big props.
I know this is just an excuse to show us ads but it feels really shitty how open they are about it. A dev starts talking and they're like "play the music get this loser out of here"
First and last time I watch 'The Game Awards", though I am quite happy that Larian Studios received a well deserved Game of the Year. The "awards show" embodies everything wrong with the overall game industry these days; greed over quality, rushed and soulless feel in order to squeeze some form of monetization. That the few categories winners that were allowed to walk up on stage to receive rewards, where quickly rushed off just to get another advert in... just disgusting.
Archetype Entertainment is a division of Wizards of the Coast. They pulled in a bunch of OG Bioware devs and other people that worked on pre-Larian Baldur's Gate games. And, well, on their Wikipedia page, any mention of Mass Effect is omitted, I suspect for a reason.
Having best score be a one off rapid fire award was so fucking insulting. Not only that, but the fact we still don't have a best supporting performance category is bs.
It felt more like a showcase than an actual awards show. To much filler and not enough about the games that were up for awards. To have the music for final fantasy played on stage then not have the category as an actual presented award. Then award winners were pushed off stage after winning just to have more games presented. Very very poor.
I hated this. Not the Dropped Frames crew, you guys are always great, and your commentary was the only consistently good part of the night. I watch TGA for the awards, and the heartfelt moments with the Devs. They were glossing over awards en masse - multiple in a row during the breaks. And giving the devs 30 seconds to talk before the teleprompter told them to finish up? That's barely enough time for some devs to get their emotions under control enough to talk! Playing the "get off the stage" music before Sam Lake had gotten halfway through what was clearly a well-written and concise speech? Fuck that. The world premieres are always exciting, but they completely eclipsed the awards, especially in combo with ALL THE **** ADs. Five minutes with the muppets and 30 seconds with the dev? The fuck? And how long did they give Kojima even though he really had nothing to show? Super disappointing show, and if the game awards are aiming for the panache and cultural significance of award shows like the Oscars, then they really need to reel it in.
I've lost faith in Geoff honestly, this was not a very well managed show in terms of time. Lots of wasted time, cutting the things that actually mattered. Pitiful, also I don't even mind the ads I mine him killing off the most important part of the show, the developers.
I have watched so many TGA streams just to watch the reactions of everyone when they see Light No Fire after the disaster that was No Mans Sky launch and it never gets old lol.
Got to love it when the hosts of these channels laugh at hello games first mistakes and say things like dont break your promises or LIE to us and then they see the trailer and it shuts them up lol and shocked lol
the alan wake 2 performance was the best part, the awards ofc.. but the games... oh well maybe next year.. some interesting.. overall i think i hoped for more
You're taking it too literal. "World 2" is just a shorthand so people know which sub-series of MH they're referring to. Not a spinoff or a Switch game - but rather a follow-up to the last full blown Playstation/Xbox Monster Hunter. It's the same reason people call the next Dragon Age "Dragon Age 4" even though we've known the actual title for a while
@@tropicata World 2 is still wrong and btw Rise is a main series game. Capcom themselves said so. Anyone who say World 2 is either new, trolling or just doesn't know. The last full blown MH game was MH5 otherwise known as MHW. Capcom ditched the numbers to not scare new people. Thus Wild is MH6 because its the 6th generation.
Wasnt there any rumors that capcom still has one big anannounced game coming out before March 2024? I wonder when they are doing that. MH Wilds is coming out 2025 so maybe another RE Remake?
completely disagree that this was the best show. it was one of the worst. the announcements are cool but its barely an award show. it should just be a digital showcase if you want game announcements
I'm going to be that guy. Going for 10 years and it's still plagued by ridiculous shit and hasn't improved in the slightest since it began. I love the awards that were given this year but I truly hate the GA show as it is. It's literally just an advertisement show with trophies tacked on, and even those are executed poorly. They hardly show any awards being handed out. They dilute awards like best voice acting to only 5 people and lumping both male, female, supporting and leading roles in it which doesn't at all cover the wide array of talent. They relegate important awards like accessibility or indie game of the year awards to pre-show or a quick ramble off. Then they force award winners to end their speeches, which is incredibly rude and annoying. I mean its a fucking AWARDS SHOW to celebrate the games and PEOPLE involved in them and then they do this shit? Nobody is going to take this show seriously as an "award show". But then they dedicate time and money to a cringe and useless muppet section. Kojima's movie game and Hollywood actors who are clearly just there for a pay check. Its actually fucking insulting and condescending that people like Geoff Keighley in the game industry use Hollywood as some sort of crutch being like "hey guys we're a big thing right, right papa Hollywood?" instead of getting those from within the industry who deserve attention to come up on stage and speak. The Game Awards is a joke of a show that hasn't improved since it started and Geoff Keighley is a fucking hack that has literally done nothing for the gaming industry except make it seem like more of a joke to those outside of it.
That’s why people watch it, to get hyped about their favorite games of the year and to see previews of what they can be excited for. It’s not meant to move the industry into some new level and expectations for it doing that is just projection 🤷♂️
A production of this scale is a massive expense. Unless you can find a way to get such funding without sponsors, and, therefore, advertisements, the ads must happen. And scale is required to create interest, attract high-profile guests, increase viewership, which all in turn make the ceremony more prestigious and the award more desirable. You can create an award and give it out all you want, but unless audience is in it, the entertainment industry is not going to care all that much. Additionally, I think that most people watch this specifically for the trailers and announcements. Cut that out, let game developers talk for two hours and you'll get maybe a couple of thousand people watching by the end of the show, most of them already scrolling through phones. Most gamers watching this don't know, or really care, about game developers, but they do care about games. Even Oscars has been losing viewers for however long and it's filled with superstar celebrities whom people actually know and love. Talking heads in a video game awards show would be a path straight to oblivion. It's unfortunate that they have to cut people off, but again, this is a live production. The stage, the production team, the equipment and the hall are rented only for so long and, I imagine, every minute over incurs significant extra costs. Once again, money is the king, and unless you'd rather see awards being given out on a zoom call, which most devs won't even bother to join, this has to be the format.
@@GotTheJuiceGGexcept that was literally Geoff's intention when the GA was created. To elevate the gaming industry into something serious that wasn't just seen as a joke. It was meant to be the game industry's version of the Emmys or the Oscars or golden globes. It's instead became a parody of itself.
Cohh: that looks liek a different type of mass effect me: if you fuckign paid attention to what JP said literalyl 2 seconds before that you'd know it's made up of ex devs from BioWare who worked on mass effect but also I think naughty dog too?
Cohh spending half a show staring off screen to his top email/discord monitor than finally looking down mid-trailer to ask something was just answered, repeatedly, is par for the course unfortunately
The fact that you honestly think arkane is a lost cause because of a live service project force on them that they couldn't salvage is wild to me. Prey for one (by Arkane Austin) is one of the greatest games ever made. Also no, Arkane lyon and Arkane austin are separate in everything but technology
The whole show was... awful. Bloated out to monstrous proportions with non-celebrities, non-announcements, non-interviews and (of course) ads. The whole thing could have been done in half the time and would have been much better for it. It's the first and last time I'll tune in, that's for sure.
What have we learned. Best action game isnt about best action gameplay or best overall action game. Its about what game has the biggest booms and flashy explosions. Best music is not what music best fits the game and how it fits into the game its whatever game has the loudest and most generic massive combat music of the year.
One thing i will say is that so many people have left arkane its not really the same studio anymore, they aren't the studio that made prey anymore and they are the studio that made redfall
How about you do your research before spouting incorrect shit? Arkane Lyon made Dishonored and Deathloop. Arkane Austin made Redfall. They aren’t the same groups.

The exodus guitar rift at the end hit different 🔥
Zeke was so off this show
3:07:50 😂
I love how far Arknights has come tbh and look forward to be trying out the pc tech test in january if i get in
the goons were guarding the stage hardcore this time
Old school is the way!
I really don't know if TB would be happy or sad about the remake of one of his favourite games..
I feel like it’s been long enough that it’s probably warranted..
Old school hype!!
the alan wake 2 performance was the best part, the awards ofc.. but the games... oh well maybe next year.. some interesting.. overall i think i hoped for more
The Game Awards Dropped Frames.....Literally.
What a freaking show. So awesome!
I get rushed but man the show was almost 4 hours haha
Pog Old gods of Asgard performance live Pog
Kojima has some world class drugs.
its actually crazy that people thought monster hunter 6 was gonna be called world 2.
These guys are still calling it World 2 for some reason because they actually know nothing about it or so it seems.
It was Dragons Dogma 2. Basically the rumor got misinterpreted and they really meant it’s a game that they haven’t revealed the release date for yet.
Omg World of Goo woot
2:12:00 - hahaha holy shit, good one, Zeke!
It's been a while and a half since I've heard that one
Seeing the new lego fortnite I wish that lego universe still was a thing..
Check out Trials of Mana Remake from 2020. It's good.
Can’t wait for next year
yes cohh. rebirth spoilers for a remake of a game that came out 25 years ago and aside form a couple things are almost shot for shot the same.
it's the best show yet.
Hellblade 2 was all in engine cinematic’s and gameplay. It looks insane
completely disagree that this was the best show. it was one of the worst. the announcements are cool but its barely an award show. it should just be a digital showcase if you want game announcements
OMG I am SO excited by that Sega development trailer. Please, please, please don't fuck this up Sega.
2:08:45 that guy is like me lol oh lord i can't watch whatever this game is.
Cyberpunk did not meet the criteria for Best Ongoing Game and the fact it won is a little insulting
Let's goo!!!
Cyberpunk 2077 winning 'best ongoing' is basically rewarding CDPR for releasing in a broken state and panic fixing for a few years.
Spent 10 minutes to write a bunch of nothing. Congrats!
Some of you should just shut up if you have no clue what you're talking about.
Ayyy, new copy pasta
@@GotTheJuiceGGexcept that was literally Geoff's intention when the GA was created. To elevate the gaming industry into something serious that wasn't just seen as a joke. It was meant to be the game industry's version of the Emmys or the Oscars or golden globes. It's instead became a parody of itself.
ZEKE with the great Clerks reference.
Cohh: that looks liek a different type of mass effect
me: if you fuckign paid attention to what JP said literalyl 2 seconds before that you'd know it's made up of ex devs from BioWare who worked on mass effect but also I think naughty dog too?
Cohh spending half a show staring off screen to his top email/discord monitor than finally looking down mid-trailer to ask something was just answered, repeatedly, is par for the course unfortunately
Eh with the fallout show... bethesda isn't exactly a company with strong writing to adapt
World premier dropped frames episode!
If they’re not gonna bother to let them give speeches then we might as well just get rid of the awards and make it a game showcase.
The fact that you honestly think arkane is a lost cause because of a live service project force on them that they couldn't salvage is wild to me.
Prey for one (by Arkane Austin) is one of the greatest games ever made.
Also no, Arkane lyon and Arkane austin are separate in everything but technology
i enjoyed this show, but... its more actors than gaming industry folk. kinda hate that. its just slowly turning into the oscars.
1:47:02 Mia Khalifa
FeelsStrongMan World of Goo 2
Game awards reacts let’s goooo
The whole show was... awful. Bloated out to monstrous proportions with non-celebrities, non-announcements, non-interviews and (of course) ads. The whole thing could have been done in half the time and would have been much better for it. It's the first and last time I'll tune in, that's for sure.
it was a great show, u are strange...
Great show, but gotta agree the "get off stage" music, was an awful touch. and award giving could have been better handled
I can not replay brothers a tale of two sons
no way cohh said mh wilds looks like world lmaoo, wtf is he looking at?
Pog Pony island 2
ODeeez nuts, missed opportunity with OD game :)
WOW! THE HOST CAN READ A TELEPROMPTER JUST LIKE BIDEN
Man... You guys are starting to get irritating, even Cooh. He has talked to the devs themselves and then starts saying shit like this lol
How about you do your research before spouting incorrect shit?
Arkane Lyon made Dishonored and Deathloop. Arkane Austin made Redfall. They aren’t the same groups.
"Its MHW2" There's no such thing....They were never going to do a "Worlds 2". Its MH6. Even has 6 in the logo.
I'd be embarrassed to see "my" trailer showing up in an award show like this having had just slapped some shitty rap song on top of it.
best on going to cyberpunk? pity award
Don´t discredit the work the devs put into the game over the years just because you´re still butthurt from the launch.
@@CZJames20 but the games not on going the only thing they released after the full game was updates and 2.0 and the DLC if that's the case where's warframe huh? no mans sky? as i said pity award.
@@tommyspringfield7687 I don´t really care for the definition of ongoing, neither does TGA apparently- if you wanted to see Fortnite win, just wait till the next year, my man..
@@CZJames20 i see where YOUR mind is, i wanted 14 to win.
@@tommyspringfield7687 See ? You can just say I wanted 14 to win and not disregard someone´s work by calling it a pity award..
-I agree that the music is annoying, when then someone exploits your patience with an eight minute ramble, you learn to avoid that in the future.
Cohh being disappointed that Hi-Fi Rush won best audio design when that was baked into the entire concept of the game. Meanwhile, show me truly memorable art for Alan Wake 2 over the world of Lies of P.
No way alan weak gets the narrative one from CP, lmao. Undeserved af. And how the hell did BG3 not get the OST one, what?
Pog
Starfield was my game of the year
Next year more awards less trailers and I bet my life the gang complain the reverse 😂 no winning 😅 all good tho
Ben Starr was robbed by a performance 90% of gamers will never see.
