They did something similar when finishing Uncharted 2; one team did Uncharted 3 and the other did Last of Us
Concord overshadowed APB's 140M (adjusted for inflation) failure, so much so that you can still play APB and it has more players than Concord did while it was up. Just wild.
I have UA-cam Premium since like day 1 of Red. I spend so much time on UA-cam it's literally worth it's weight in gold. If I spent more time on Twitch I would totally get Turbo but I don't.
If I were to start streaming I would 100% run at least 5 minutes of ads an hour. I'd want to take that 5 to stretch, move around a little, get a drink, bio break, etc and I would like to give my viewers the same courtesy. I think 5 minutes an hour is completely reasonable.

Same, Privacy badger+Brave Browser's own AdBlock seems to do the trick for everything except pre-rolls, which I haven't seen in ages either for some reason.
The Twitch ad conversation is so absurd, like how could a company take care of their moneymakers worse? They don't listen to feedback, constantly hinder all kinds of operations with terrible new features (hello, mobile app) and then they won't even provide statistics for monetization optimization? and most streamers don't even have a Twitch contact...
I haven't been hard into a fighting game for a decade now, but me and my roommate used to play UMvC3 constantly, must've done literally thousands of matches. Since then I've always got a tiny itch whenever something new comes out but I've never taken the plunge again because it's such a commitment and playing online 1v1 stresses the fuck out of me.
When it comes to the cost of making games i 100% feel its a time and management issue, there are so many examples of gaming taking so many years with constant changing of plans and no clear constant vision and sometimes even full rebuilds and as the old saying goes ...time = money
Most of the criticism I saw about concord both before and after it released was about the characters. You can't expect a hero shooter to succeed if no one cares about the heroes. There is no time this game would have done well because of that alone. Would any of the big name fighting games still be around today if their characters were designed like concord characters? I don't think so. Regardless of how you feel about that, the gaming community spoke loud and clear with the rejection of this game. It sent a message to game developers they'll never forget.
@@VorpalSnakthey can't stay on twitch because twitch has proven they cannot be trusted with content rules which can potentially lead to people being life time banned from the platform (it happened before). Cohh said he cannot risk his career for even a small chance of this so all vods get removed from twitch untill some guarantees are made
Light No Fire hasn't even come out yet. How can he say it didn't do well? He had to mean 2020's the last Campfire. and shit thats Overwhelming positive. So...... What the heck was Cohh talking about.
I'm on the UA-cam side, mainly because I don't have time to watch full streams all in one go, and Twitch Vods doesn't keep track of view timing, (as in when I leave the twitch app, it forgets where I stopped watching, so its annoying to continue later, because I am small brain... (might be fixed now)) and all the ads on Twitch, both live streams / Vods. Yes, I could go pay for Twitch Turbo, now that they actually push it, and it's easier to find, but I already have UA-cam Red (now premium, but I have had it since Red), and most people post their vods on UA-cam now, even if they cut up some stuff and throw it up separately. And I'm ok with watching both. But I'd rather watch the full vod rather than clips. Hence why I'm here. I was getting all the Pirate Software Dropped Framed Clips, which were fun, and I wanted to see the full context streams. And I'm glad I'm here. I'll here almost every week, may have to catch up a couple weeks, but thabks for the great content!
YT>Twitch because the vod system is easier to manage. I do go YT live streams over twitch because of the quality. Also the ads are easier to get rid of on YT
I think to finally understand youtube (e.g. why streaming kills the algorithm placement) the guys should find a way to have The Spiffing Brit on the show and talk youtube with him... maybe after CIV 7 releases to have a second topic :P
For the multi-streaming stuff, may I recommend bringing on Ludwig at some point. He runs a super successful UA-cam channel, while have a twitch background, so I think he'd have the best insight on the live/vods/edited video affecting the channel metrics/algorithm and what it means when you split your viewer base.
The Borderlands movie budget was 110 million dollars and is being regarded as the worst movie of the last few years. You dont need these bloated budgets to make good movies or games.
Borderlands Director Eli Roth always wanted to do a big, fun sci-fi movie, something that was a mix of Fifth Element, Barbarella, Escape From New York, Star Wars, Mad Max and Starship Troopers. Yeah.
They could've cut costs on the cast but a Borderlands movie would always have a large budget because it's an adaptation of a story about a group adventuring across an alien planet.
i think i remember ludwig saying that youtubes algo hates VODs being on your main youtube. You will have a ton of viewers that dont watch it, and a ton of viewers that only watched a tiny part of the vods. most of your viewers of that stream will have only seen a tiny percentage of the "video" that is your vod. it makes youtube assume your clickthrough rate is now suddenly really bad, if your viewers are suddenly only watching 1 hour of a 6 hour video VOD.

The discussion about video game costs and time to make was interesting but it was also really strange that no one talked about the "why" in the first place. The highest cost and time issues come from high end graphic chasing and high end 3D model/asset creation. Also a bit weird that Nintendo is not mentioned once in the Astro Bot section. This is basically Nintendos business model for years.
the whole Concord situation and Sony Execs being totally disconnected about how Astro Bot is proof they have viable IPs they could pull from is really showing how the soulless, money-first, generic regurgitated aspects of late-stage capitalism have finally fully come into gaming and I really think that Sony and other Video Game Execs will not learn any lessons from this and just continue to double and triple down on games as a service generic shit in an attempt to recover and make more money. Concord is clearly one of the reason Ryan got “ retired” and the Sony is pivoting the whole ship again. I just don’t understand the narrative about “ the people at the top not facing the consequences “. The CEO of Playstation for fired over this ( in combination with the Bungie drama). As for the developers, it sucks when your creative vision fails but they been making this game for about six years before Sony ever got on board. They believed in the vision and they were a fairly small to midsize company. There vision just kinda suck and was aggressively bland while still managing to piss everyone off. I never nice for people to lose their jobs but this trend in games media that is unable to be critical about failures from developers is getting silly. Not all success is in spite of C- suite nor is every failure their fault. Sometimes, for whatever reason, your creative vision is isn’t any good.
Yep. The fact they didn't even mention the character designs in this game was weird to me considering how many people talked about it both before and after it released. Its like theres an obvious elephant in the room and no one sees it.
JP is 100% correct on the contradictory lore for 40k by different authors. The beauty of the setting is that the uncertainties of warp, and lost knowledge make everyone an unreliable narrator. So different authors & rulesets have license to use the rule of cool while making things consistently inconsistent.
I still disagree that preventing the Yakuza actors from seeing the games was a bad play. I think they are trying to get genuine reactions to the wacky stuff like Kiryu had in 0 and kiwami 1, something that doesn't really happen in the series anymore because nothing really phases Ichiban. But I will still approach it cautiously since its very hit or miss for live action game adaptations
1:25......Zeke its HIGH Risk, HIGH Reward , Low Risk Low Reward, NOT Low Risk High Reward. hahaha if that was a thing NO One would ever invest in anything else but that. Why would you?
1:26:00 - I'm glad hearing Cohh say this. Because on last weeks podcast it aaaaalmost sounded like Cohh was defending how games should cost more...Just almost (:
So the UA-cam thing for multi streaming I think is bad for people who say make a 10- 30 minute highly edited content normally on UA-cam and then switch sto streaming cause the retention the average viewership ect all goes down so you need to start out doing streams and vods so you don't mess with your stats and dump yourself out of the algorithm or you can start a streams and vods Chanel why do you think Mathew Patrick had game theory and the game theory live channel one of the most prominent behind the scenes Chanel management guys as well as giant personalities on the platform seen this issue what like 8 10 years ago and came up with the solution and people are to thick in the skull to fallow in those footsteps? And yeah UA-cam could fix the streaming stuff blah blah blah you wanna cry about it or do you wanna do the best you can in the current environment?
If you don't care enough about what your watching to sit through a 30 second ad why are you watching it in the first place? I detest ads that's why I have YT Premium but even if I didn't if I couldn't tolerate a 15-30 sec ad I wouldn't be watching it in the first place. Saying you won't tolerate something so minor is the epitome of entitlement. It shows a distinct disrespect for the stability and longevity of the platform you're using and the creator you're watching. If you are unwilling to support the systems that bring you content then do everyone else a favor and don't engage with it to begin with. This is especially the case when it's as simple as watching a short ad. The tone of this might come off a bit more aggressive than I'm intending though. I just find some of this to be ridiculous and frustrating.
For the Yakuza TV Series, they can go full-on with the serious theme but incorporate a TON of sight gags specifically for the fans of the games. Like for example Kiryu is brawling then after a particularly hard hit, the camera cuts to a non-chalant Obatarian. Or a bar scene where the background music is Bakamitai. Something like that.
Don't really like the take on astrobot as it clearly a celebration of the ps history but moreover did not expect JP to fall for clickbait headline and to not do his research because when you read the interview it clearly is not what jp makes it out to be. Heres the actual excerpt from the article - “Whether it’s for games, films or anime, we don’t have that much IP that we fostered from the beginning,” said chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki, who is widely seen as Yoshida’s successor, in a separate interview. “We’re lacking the early phase (of IP) and that’s an issue for us,” he added, noting Sony has historically been better at finding a global audience for content that have already become popular in their home market. Excited to see max though, hopefully we get more of him .
@@itmeJP Well seeing more of it I do want to tell you team asobi is safe from a hi fi rush situation since they also do R&D for ps consoles and controller too, also I guess it just fel a little weird but makes perfect sense that you would be talking more about the impact of the game than the game itself :)

Wonder if Zeke even talks to man anymore.

If I'm watching twitch and I get one ad, i'm out.
Is Ezekieliii okay?
I am astro bot... As...tro...bot.
I wonder if anyone on DF has seen the trailers for Forever Winter? I'm guessing Cohh and JP will be interested...
JP is 100% correct on the contradictory lore for 40k by different authors. The beauty of the setting is that the uncertainties of warp, and lost knowledge make everyone an unreliable narrator. So different authors & rulesets have license to use the rule of cool while making things consistently inconsistent.
It's consistently an unreliable narrator
And yeah UA-cam could fix the streaming stuff blah blah blah you wanna cry about it or do you wanna do the best you can in the current environment?
minor borrowing vehicles????
Grand -> Minor, Theft -> Borrowing, Auto -> Vehicles
It is weird they are harping on about the value of turbo and red, when adblock exists and is free.
Keep watching 🙏
@@itmeJP Well seeing more of it I do want to tell you team asobi is safe from a hi fi rush situation since they also do R&D for ps consoles and controller too, also I guess it just fel a little weird but makes perfect sense that you would be talking more about the impact of the game than the game itself :)
