Bobdylanator Tenthousandsix you have a point man!but zep like rush, floyd and others had great live sound-i think in general most great acts had big sound.but here we have something special.noone played like Meshuggah back in 1996 and most bands that tried something similar..well...they came short.at least as far as i know from bootlegs of that specific time
No one took what Meshuggah has done to the lengths that they took it...absolutely. They were inspired by bands that did a little of what they do, but no one riffs like this band. Not then, and not now either....after checking this band out for 6 years now, I can say that I'm actually *not* surprised about the quality of sound here. These men are masters of their craft. I listen to a lot of music, and Meshuggah is my favorite band period.
holygroove2 Another incredible fact about this band is that every one of their albums continues to remain fresh to this day. It takes many a listen to catch all the subtleties in a Meshuggah album and even after it remains impressive. You can tell these guys give everything they've got, both in the studio and live. I still have yet to see anyone beat them at their craft and I doubt I ever will. You can also give credit to Johan Lundgren and his awesome guitar pickups. They are a large part of Fredrik and Martens' tone!
It was probably the most intense musical experience I've had when the supported machinehead before this. I had to stand to the side it was crazy as were the crowd.
Logan Wilder Actually Jens's voice has a high pitch back in the day. His screams where more powerful and sound less "robotic". Compare DEI with Chaosphere and then with Nothing... You will see the evolution.
Kevin Suarez Macena his voice was at his peak in Chaosphere, it was a mixture between the old yelling he used to do and his modern vocals. Brutal as fuck
Does anyone else acknowledge/realize what these guys did for metal? They are the pioneers of many genres, death core, dent, prog metal, metal core... Meshuggah are very slept on but ultimately they're as important for modern metal as Black Sabbath. They paved the way and demonstrated what off time shredding can be, thus ushering in new styles of metal. They're the best live metal band I have seen and I've seen a lot of great (knot, LOG, faith no more, damage plan, slayer, suffocation, dying fetus). People need to appreciate what they did for all of us heads.. and even to today they're innovating beyond the very boundaries they created. Meshuggah, tallica, death, mega death, priest and maiden are the benchmarks. Shame chuggah doesn't get the respect they deserve.
@@Rappajalkanen How's is that?..They started Djent. The new modern metal has just built on that and pushed the speed up past Ludacris to Plaid. Meshuggah, At the Gates and many other Swedish bands have created many cool styles and subgenres of Heavy Metal. Swedish metal fans should be proud :-)
Lines like, "Hanging in the balance" in this song shows he is one of the only metal vocalists that realizes that no matter what, he's always hitting some sort of note; might as well be the right one.
Love European metal, but I can't quite understand how the audience can be standing perfectly still like a golf match during an amazing song instead of moshing, headbanging, etc. The mosh pits may be one thing the American metal scene does a bit better.
There's a lot of variation in terms of crowds here in Sweden, different venues / festivals. We tend to be a more lively version version of the stale stationary people in this clip. Louder, a lot of singalong. Dissection's last DVD is a good example of a swe crowd ua-cam.com/video/XGr5ilRhWO0/v-deo.html

They invented/pioneered djent, metal core and death core. Meshuggah are one of the most important metal groups of all time.. hands down
They sound a bit like Pantera.
Stick me in a time capsule, I want to experience the young Meshuggah!!
It was probably the most intense musical experience I've had when the supported machinehead before this. I had to stand to the side it was crazy as were the crowd.
When people were used to hearing nu metal and grunge, Meshuggah must have been the sonic equivalent to the apocalypse.
Nightchair Records Nu metal was barely born then
Nu metal wasn't really established in '96, I'd imagine (I was born nine years later) that Pantera was "the" metal band at the time.
Their singers voice still sounds the same after all these years which is awesome. Some singers vox change or they lose their voice over the years.
Truth be told, I think Jens' vocals are under rated. The man has a real gift. You can hear it when you see them live.
Logan Wilder Actually Jens's voice has a high pitch back in the day. His screams where more powerful and sound less "robotic". Compare DEI with Chaosphere and then with Nothing... You will see the evolution.

Julian Milanesi Definitely. Jens held nothing back on that album.
He's come back around. He's had some less awesome years truth be told. But he does sound amazing
One of the most influential bands of all time. Pushing the envelope and driving music towards greater possibilities.
