I'm not sure, but I think they might have it programmed now, I'm no lights expert but it just seems too much stuff going on for one person to do live, and when I saw them in Copenhagen there was a whole bunch of different mixing tables, but I saw no-one doing live stuff like I've seen on that old video with the light guy. Does anyone know if this is the case?
Agreed, I would never criticize art that was made better with automation if it's impossible to do by hand. Would be pretty rad if there was whole light crew, like a "second" meshuggah who did the different lights though haha.
In World War 2 during the brutal siege of Leningrad, Dmitry Shostakovich wrote his 7th Symphony, an overwhelmingly powerful and bombastic epic which was reportedly blasted through loudspeakers at the German lines which surrounded the city as a sort of psychological counter-warfare, and despite *millions* of casualties the city was never taken... If humanity ever gets invaded by an armada of extra-terrestrials, we should have Meshuggah play with that lightshow up at the alien ships.
@@TunnelJumper Yes, it's fucking worrying how many people think someone is controlling everything, apparently the metal community has lost its ability to think due to headbanging.
@@wannabeserpento99 Maybe you need to get more info before you say something, you can found videos of they light engineer, it was manual sometime ago. Sorry for my crude english x)
4:16 my favorite bit - the lights syncing with Haake is impressive enough but for those lower beams to literally turn downward along right along with the guitar slides/glissando is just inspired. You can tell this guy is fluent in both sound and light as mediums to be able to translate between them so well. - and yes, I know its automated - but someone still had to write and program that automation, which is an extremely technical and artistic skill in its own right that I think a lot in the metal community don't understand. That light programming didn't just magically spawn in the ether of some computer program. He may not be playing the physical instrument but he's still a composer of sorts in my book and has my respect for designing visuals worthy of this band.
its not automated, lol. there is a dude literally playing along with the band. there are videos of it. i remember it was one of the band member's cousin and i think they had to get another guy at some point. but yeah he travels with them to gigs and everything.
@@visionofdisorder it is automated man. Meshuggah play to a click track and its synced up. Nothing at all wrong with that. They def have a lighting dude, he makes sure shit goes to plan on the night. They had someone doing it real time on vid but not anymore. Given the added complexity of the lighting on that. He does make up the light show though and its awesome. And to the dude above. Meshuggah are my favourite band, but it's not as complicated as your making it out to be. It's def amazing, but it's not quantum mechanics, their stuff isn't that complex that people can't play it.
Don't you dare sleep on 3:30 dude. The way the strobe lights and lasers flash and sweep, perfectly matching the guitar slides, makes an image thats reminiscent of an explosion of sonic power and light.
this was the tour that made me addicted to meshuggah. with great joy I come back to such videos and realize how unforgettably sick those shows have been back then. Lighting today is fine I guess, but that shit was wild.
I've seen these guys live 3 times since 2012 and it still amazes me how a band that's been doing this for going on 30 years can keep improving their live shows that much after all this time.
I watched this video synced up with the studio audio of the track, closed my eyes, and re-opened them to find myself face-to-face with the Five Primordial Beings in the Dimensional Gap. Anyone else experienced this as well?
1) visit Meshuggah show with epic laser show like this one 2) visit Devin Townsend show 3) visit Gojira show (again) Those 3 are so unbelievably good live..
Dubstep light show accompanied by downtuned murder! Id love to see the reaction of fans at a electronic show if Meshuggah was a random act lol. How horribly that LSD trip will shift!
This is so skull crushingly heavy that I don't think I ever want to listen to any other band. Listening to this just makes me feel powerful and I fucking love it.
Saw them live in cologne (Germany) on their "violent sleep of reason" tour! It blew me away completely! I was (headbanging) speechless! It was beautiful! ❤️
There was this hype around dvd:s when they first came, that you could choose camera angles at will on live dvd:s I would love to see that feature on the next Meshuggah live bluray/dvd, because I want to be able to see the whole show from the angle like in this video. The two previous dvd:s they released had too much cutting, close ups and audience shots. I mean it’s nice to get some close-ups of the band, but I would like the choice.
The pro-shots tend to miss a lot of things cause they’re busy switching cameras for the sake of band members and crowd etc. your far better off having one continuous shot from the back like this one. 👍
These guys aren't just ridiculous musicians but good dudes. Met them after a show about 15 years ago and it's almost like Marten wanted to talk to us lol Fredrick was blazed and getting bombarded by guitar enthusiasts 🤣 and Thomas was surrounded by everyone else. Haake is a God among drummers. Stupid good..
Their lightshow cures cancer.
their music too!
He is the 6th member of Meshuggah

I literally just sit here and laugh at how badass this is
The way they just stand there, evenly spaced and firm as rock...... jesus
yup
The four Archangels purched before God.. Beholding their creation amidst the holy lights..
Was tripping so hard last show I was seeing triplets of the them. Haha
Edvard Hansson (their light guy) said it best about Meshuggah's sound: "a container ship dragged through gravel." 🤘
Eh, idk if I like the comparison tbh lol
Weird metaphor, but put that aside the light guy deserves an Oscar for this song alone.
Like a Бурлак!
A super universe clock god in groove hyperspace
@@lordsozehcp5362 it was in reference to their bass tone. If you listen to it isolated, especially the low Bb string, it's incredibly true haha

They would probably see this as we can see a hamster dancing against us.
Idk wht the fuck you talking sbout but that shit sounds legit
This might be one of the best live Meshuggah videos on UA-cam.
jmeezle indeed!\,,/
THE best
Look up videos of their Santiago 2013 show. Best crowd for sure. Perhaps the best sounding kick too.
The lighting is nuts, those lasers are sick. They didn't have those at the show I went to.
"Did you see the lightshow at the superbowl?"
Messhuggah: "Hold my beer..."
This is such an underrated track, one of the best of them if you ask me...
This song went from least favorite from the album to for now my favorite track of all time, all genres
The lyrics make it even ten times better. Definitely their masterpiece
You need to reconsider where you get your ratings from. This song kicks so much ass
Best metal band ever.
Michael Wosslert My favorite band on planet earth. Not just in metal, but in all music.
