Pre-Nothing Meshuggah is a totally different style. Their old style was aggressive, thrashy and dynamic, but now they are heavy, powerful, complex and crushing. I personally love both in different moods.
I've been a fan since I was 12 years old in 1995. They haven't disappointed me once yet. Though Koloss was not their best but the songs Fredrik wrote on that are gold.

It got dark but I can't help but feel there's hope for his future & light at the end of the tunnel metaphorically speaking. He nearly relapsed back into the void of addictive harm after being released from hospital but then he made a stand against it & threw his fully loaded intravenous needle away before using it. It was actually a really good anti drugs video when it was released because of the poignant & accurate reality of drug use. My metal friends used to watch this clip on a regular basis & agree. Back in the early 90's when there was no drug education in schools & drug information online many kids just fumbled around with their addictions because it was perceived to be cool. This clip shows you that you've got to renounce drugs to break the addiction before it literally kills us.

The original Meshuggah drummer was Niclas Lundgren, who left after the "Psykisk Testbild" EP was released in 1989. Haake joined the band and bought Lundgren's white Sonor kit, which you can see in this video.
LOL I love this video, Old school meshuggah are awesome, particularly the DSE album. I Quite like Fredrik's vocals and he looks real different without his trademark goatee! Speaking of different... Check out Jens with hair!
Drums sound like Megadeth, vocals sound like a mix between Tom araya and James Hetfield, guitars tone sounds like old Anthrax, and the bass sounds like Jason Newsted.
thanks for your in depth insight into the matter of the "evolution of Meshuggah"... you explained yourself so well and spent so much time and effort backing your conclusions... I'm sure everyone around you is blessed by your ability to speak so eloquently and to bring meaning and validation to your opinions... smh.. troll on.
This is the Meshuggah that I love... some of their new stuff is ok, but IMO... this "thrashy" version of the math masters is the best incarnation... I would love to hear them break out at least one more album like this... or a mix of this and DEI or Chaosphere....
Thank you, I appreciate that. I have no problem with people having opinions that differ from mine, : )... it's what makes life so interesting, but as you said, it's the one's who attack people because they don't agree with others' opinions that irritate me to no end, lol... nice bumping into you.
Thank you... that's all I was trying to say... and I'll admit the whole "change the name of the band" thing is a bit extreme, but some bands change their sound so much that they do eventually sound like a different band all together. I loved the band up until "Nothing"... it had some great moments but when they switched to that style I stopped being able to enjoy it as much and had to fall back on their earlier work... they are a very talented band, I just miss their thrash music.
muchos muchachitos se creen hoy en día muy "modernos" diciendo que escuchan y tocan Djent y cosas por el estilo... Pues MESHUGGAH ya lo estaba haciendo desde inicios de los 90s... Excelente
The singer is Jens. The other guitarist is Frederik. Marten joined to play rhythm guitar after Contradictions Collapse so Jens wouldn't have to play the complex rhythm parts and perform vocals at the same time. Duh! JK, a lot of people don't know that. :)

I love how everything in this video just kicks the early nineties right in your face.

Early 90s is 91
Tomas Haake of Meshuggah always uses words in his songs that I have never heard in my life. He is an incredible song writer/poet.
Yeah man, that's how intelligent Swedish people are, they can even out-english us
the title means Rejecting Blindness for anyone who isn't an English professor
amazing fuckin track, these guys were waaay ahead of their time. Also, seeing Jens with hair and playing guitar while Fredrick is doing lead vocals is too much.

Since their birth Meshuggah had always been and still are ahead of their time, what a beast of a band.
Your words such unessential lies
Refract my barred up eyes
You all tell me I'm confined
In my shell of hallucinations
So try and make me realize
Break my secure enclosure
Just try and I know you'll make me laugh
To hell with your damn comprehension
You belabor me for past and present mishaps
As if I had the might of alteration
You've had your trips into my brain
I know you begrudge
Now let me leave for my amenity
So you see, you white coated freak
I don't need your allegations
Instead join me to sanity's end
With my sweet needle of salvation
Increasing needs of my only friend
The one I trust
He runs in my veins
Hides me away under his soothing crust
Madness reigns
You're no longer in charge of my alluring illusions
That takes me wherever I want, my
Malnutriated malice
Rises strong and makes me the ruler of
Earth, wind and fire
As reality fades, I'm a king on clouds
The self pity no longer runs in my veins
I'm a malevolent revelation please let me stay
Give me more
Left out, dragged down into emptyness
Drowning in floods of misunderstanding
Why do you all look aside?
You're ripping my dignity away
Inside identity is leaking out
Realization is catching up on me
My needs bashes false immortality
Into my affected being, chaos
Cravings of delight
Slowly eats my soul
Trapped within myself
Defraying my own lies
Bewalling my demise
Deep penury, internally
I feel marred by errors, can't you see?
My desires are calling for me
The sovereign of abnegations
Swings his feelers for a new relation
Come, mesmerize my oppressive mind
Tear apart these vehement cravings
Give me something to live for, bring me back
From my purgatory of obsessions
Increasing needs of my only friend
The one I trust
He runs in my veins
Hides me away under his soothing crust
how the fuck is he playing and singing that shit at the same time!
Being extremely rhythmically gifted is pretty much a prerequisite for anyone to plan in Meshuggah
+Meshuggapeth Yes.
I have the same question. Look at 3:07
2:36 damn that part is good
So groovy
Wow. What an unexpectedly dark video. The ending especially, as the camera pans out to reveal the nothingness surrounding our protagonist

Contradictions collapse my favourite from them
It be sweet if Fredrick Thordenal did more vocals today. His voice was massive. Very similar to Jens
But who's singing is Jens 😂
Nope thats Frederik singing, blow your mind type shit eh?
