So much work goes into a nice lawn. I never realized it until I got my house and tried. Good info Jon.

My brother from another mother! My lawn is my happy place. It’s a labor of love, no doubt.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Black Beauty seed. Overseeded my lawn with it a week ago. Just a tip, don't apply the starter fertilizer until day 3 or 4 after overseeding, it'll help keep the existing grass shorter for longer to ensure the new seedlings receive more sun. Looking forward to 4 foot long roots and less browning in hot dry summer months next year!

Wow - just two weeks for the grass to come in semi- full around the tree - amazing.

Lots of work. But also lots of visible results. Congratulations, Jon. I know you've always been faithful about tending your lawn. It's a real pleasure to see how your efforts have been so nicely rewarded. (But alas...it looks like it won't be long before the rake will need to come out.)

you're a hard worker Jon! I've been trying to get my yard in shape the last couple of weeks due to my neglect (built a retaining wall and patio) thanks for the tips and have a great day!

There's just so much curb appeal in a nice lush lawn. Question though, how did you manage to keep the birds away? Everytime I overseed it's like a all you can eat buffet for the neighborhood birds

You have a beautiful lawn. Even though we don't have mandatory lawn watering restrictions NOW where we live [southern CA], we let our "lawn" go mostly dormant during the summer months. The wife will water her perimeter flower beds, rose bushes, orchids, fruit trees, etc. Don't know if our area's drought status will ever change/improve enough to have green grass year around (might have to transition to drought-resistant plants instead of grass).

Great advice on checking the pH of the soil, I got heavy clay soil and now thinking about it I need to check the pH of my lawn too, and add a lot of topsoil too... The problem I have is that it's really poorly draining so I don't have much time between 'hard as a rock' and ' fully waterlogged'...

Very cool video. Your lawn looks great. I would love to see a tour of your yard. With some before and after pictures and how you handle challenges like shade, too much water, not enough water, traffic on the grass and other things like that

I need more lawn videos too. I just moved and after this hot dry summer there isn’t much grass left to mow.

Great tutorial Jon. I do wish you spent time on the NPK values in these products and the importance of how these chemicals help lawns.
Anyways, thanks again for your advice.

Do you have problems with birds after you seed . If so how do you deal with it. I am all ears.

If I'm missing it, sorry. Can you give some info on the slicer? Live in OK with the hardest, reddest clay. After a rain, that slicer might work. I have about 5 acres not counting what the house is on that is mainly weeds. Bought the place 5 years ago and so far nothing has worked.

    Your lawn looks great.
I just did my lawn with Black Beauty ultra in September. It looks amazing. How short did you do your last cut of the season and did you use pre emergent in the spring or in the fall?
    Thanks

You Used Black Beauty to seed your yard. What do you do if you do now know what species of grass your yard already is? Back in GA, my parent's lawn was "Bermuda grass" but my grandparents, and all their neighbors, in Alabama had a VERY different type of grass that was much less blade'like, and more like a thick soft carpet. My grass now, here in Charleston, SC... I have no idea what kind of grass it is. It looks like Bermuda... but I am not sure. Could I use "Black Beauty" no matter what, or does one really need to match the grass they already have, perfectly?

The type of grass you plant is determined heavily on what temperate zone you live in. Which you can look up pretty easily if you Google "grass temperate zones"

Instead of wasting water on a lawn, wouldn’t you be better off making part of it into a vegetable garden 👍✌️😊🙏🏼
