This is like finally meeting a Doctor that wants to sit , listen , not prescribe meds & address the the real issue you are having . A good feeling comes about because you feel like you’ve been heard . Can’t wait to see what direction this takes . Peace ✌️.
This video is outstanding and should be the very first lesson in any DIY lawn enthusiast's learning journey. I stumbled upon Jonathan Green products after my YM soil test results came in. I needed big pH adjustment and found Mag-i-Cal. I'm so glad I used it but now I know why the results were so good and what elements to look for in the products I choose for future applications. Thank you Allyn for producing this and thank you to all the Jonathan Green experts for developing and bringing quality products to the DIY market. Please get retail outlets in northwest Florida!
I love this video because not only is it educational but Mr Green's passion energy and conviction shine through that is just not possible to do through sales literature. A lot of companies have lawn care plans and products to sell so a homeowner just assume each company is pushing their own particular product. When I first started looking into Jonathan Green I figured they were just another company pushing their product with their own sales pitch. After listening to Mr Green I can tell he believes what he's saying about soil first. I love his energy and passion.
This is a great video!! It really reinforces the the idea that soil tests are critical. I love the science behind this! I’ll be watching this video multiple times so I can absorb as much of this info as possible!Thank you Allyn for providing this for your followers!!
I love Johnathan Green products. Especially their grass seed. Last year I used their black beauty grass seed on my backyard. It's wonderful seed. The grass is like it's name beautiful I highly recommend it.
Thank you for offering more of the Jonathan green products on yard mastery! Ive bought some before but had a hard time finding them from a reliable source. I like being able to buy most of my stuff from one place and being able to support you more for all the knowledge you give.
That was AWESOME! I have used black beauty in my lawn for years with pretty extraordinary results and love Jonathan Greene. We are just about to move from a 3000 sq ft lawn to a 7 acre plot that we will build from scratch into a homestead. On that plot however I will be allocating between 1/2 and 3/4 acre to lawn. Here in Roswell, NM I am really excited to try that Texas Bluegrass!!!
I have never used Jonathan Green products, but know several close friends/relatives who have used them with amazing results!! My brother-in-law has used Black Beauty and it looks fantastic! Jersey roots! My old stomping grounds!
Great video. Peter’s analogies were great and keeps it simple to understand . The truck analogy is superb. My ph (in Chicago nw burbs, over by der) is 6.2 and but my Sulfur and Iron is low. So, sound like I get to throw done some Magi-cal Plus to maintain my ph and address the low S/Fe same time.
Started your lawn care program 2 weeks ago…. This video tied so many things together for me. pH was not on my radar… It is now lol Seems like this partnership will be great for everyone involved.
After getting my soil test results back from A&M and watching this video, the light bulb went off. After Easter I started getting yellow tips in my St Augustine. Looking at my soil test, I am high on every single element except nitrogen and have been battling with my st augustine for quite some time. Nothing had been applied yet this season as st a really doesn't need a whole lot of nitrogen. The main thing that led me to this video is that my ph is 7.8(DFW area). Can't wait to apply some magical for alkaline and compacted soils to remedy this. Prime example of soils being "locked up." Thanks LCN.
Phenomenal video. I appreciate you for making this happen. Thank you to all of you involved. This has been highly educational and informative. I just applied Mag-I-Cal for alkaline soil after my soil test showed a pH level of 7.7.
We here in Indiana have a TON of limestone, so we're very alkaline (my pH is 7.7). Dropped elemental sulfur already this spring and will do it again in the fall. I might consider JG next year, however I'm still high on the CA side (thanks to the limestone), so while it sounds like excess CA isn't a horrible thing I'm hesitant to apply a CA addition to the soil.
At 15:44, so we're not getting enough sulphur in our beautiful turf grass because of the loss of coal fired powerplants. The sh*t I got to think about to have a nice yard...
Absolutely loved hearing from these folks! I am having a lot of issues raising my pH over the past 4 years. I have put down a lot of lime but just can’t budge the pH over 5.6. Lawn looks great but soil test pH looks lousy. Time to try some Jonathan Green products.
I'm in GA and last year my ph was 5.3, I threw down 2 bags of magical black bag, and last week when I got my soil test back it is 6.79. I can't believe it but I'm sold, I wish they sold bermuda grass seeds.
Awesome video and so much information! I’ll refer to this video so many times in the future. It’s my 3rd year taking an interest in my lawn and this is taking it to the next level. Awesome!!
Longtime fan and customer of JG products. A lot of great soil info in here, nicely done. Love the touching on root exudates/biology symbiosis and the albrecht reference. It’s nice to see the principals of soil ecology and the work of Dr. Elaine Ingham and others trickle their way into turf. I’m glad this info reached the ears of the average joe. Huge step towards that paradigm shift that is happening right now. Very cool show here Al nicely done, and again, I tip my cap to these JG folks for what they bring.
Allyn - just FYI I am in Colorado and I have acidic soil and low PH. I have to apply Mag-I-Cal twice a year to keep it in the window. When I see moss growing I also apply lime as it works great. Knowing the PH has helped a ton and got my lawn going after years of neglect from the previous owners.
That was a great description of the Jonathan Green company, but they really need to fix their shipping costs. One 45 lbs bag of Love Your Soil for $55 shouldn't cost $29 to ship using the standard, slowest shipping option. The shipping is 53% of the cost of the product. That's insane.
I threw down some of the JG Love my Soil last year and again this year already. The lawn is no longer compacted, and seems to be way softer. Drains better. I do still need to do a soil test, slacking on that. I've got a spare pH meter back at the lab I could use. JG products not cheap, $30/bag at Ace Hardware. It does smell like success. Now if I just had some decent grass in my lawn, it does look great for what is there. I could have used a higher level talk of the soil chemistry, cell biology and organic chemistry. Then again I am a professional chemist. Great talk.
Just applied Mag-i-cal Plus for acidic lawns. Been hovering at 5 S.U. so going to do a few apps this season and see if I can move it up easier than dropping hundreds of pounds of lime per thousand ft2.
Glad I watched this I gotta get my soil tested I been procrastinating. I have the n-ext bio stim pack put down flagship yesterday. I have that red clay soil here in North Carolina which is rock hard but I gonna make it a rich soil.
Gypsum is also a source of calcium as well it can help out with loosing compaction of clay soils, also remember with organic inputs and gardening practices ph can have swings and will do so for what is needed. Ultimately the soil life and plants will control the soil ph to be optimum for there needs. Great episode lawn care nut cheers
Wow! Thank you so much for this truly game changing content! This is exactly what I've been wanting to learn more about. I've been a subscriber to your channels for over a year now and I've bought a few of the products you offer through your app. This information is REALLY helpful! I fully understand the relationship analogy like the gut biome. It only makes sense, healthy gut, healthy life = healthy soil, healthy lawn. Thanks again. This is great stuff!
Hi! So my Ph is 7.5 and the Calcium is way way higher than the optimal amount. Can I still use Mag-I-cal for alkaline soil? Will it cause a further spike in Calcium?
So glad you teamed up with them. I use Love Your Soul and Mag-I-Cal. Will use their shade grass seed soon. I buy their 4 bag annual lawn care that's for east of the Mississippi.
Please tell me how the 4 bag method has worked for you? Does it work well? Does the weed and feed green up etc work as stated does it keep weeds minimal? Let me know as I plan on using the 4 bag method starting in the fall
Annnnndddd I’m on my way to LCN site for my third soil test lol. Did two last season and magical helps. I’ll keep using it to get my acidic Long Island Turf more neutral.
Allyn, I planted over 100 Palmetto St Augustine plugs last weekend that I purchased from Yard Mastery and I had a really strange event happen today that may be of interest to your podcast listeners. Long story short, I went outside this morning and everything looked great, but when I got home from work this afternoon something had pulled out all 100 plugs from the yard and they were laying next to each of the holes they were planted in last Sunday!!! My back yard is completely fenced in so I know it wasn’t a dog and there wasn’t any evidence of dig marks. It literally looked like they were pulled out by hand. Birds? Squirrels? I have no idea what could have done this and a search on Google didn’t give any clues. My wife and a I replanted them today and are hoping for the best that the plugs survive. Of note, I put starter fert in each of the holes when I originally planted them 5 days ago and hit them with RGS and Humic12 after they were planted. I watered them everyday. I live in VA Beach and it been in the 80s most of the week. Any idea what might have caused this head scratcher would be a big help. Thanks Allyn! Fly Navy! Jason
Is it okay to use loam top soil to level out an established lawn? I understand top dressing with organic compost is not going to work to level out lawn. Please advise. Thank you
It neutralizes the soil at a faster rate but will be shorter lived. You can't change science. Granular chunks of limestone can take years to dissolve.... limestone that is powder is difficult to spread and can cake up or blow away...but can also have immediate affects. Either way it still takes "Y" amount of limestone to raise/lower PH levels by "x" amount.. assuming the same buffer capacity of the soil. Biggest thing to look for is the mesh % on the bag. In this case it appears they've attached the 40+ mesh lime to slower dissolving material. If you want to do a deep dive... check out buffer capacity and PH and then get your soil tested for both and keep in mind % of mesh above 40, 100, 200. I had the same question you did. Good luck!
I live in Western Washington in the Seattle area and my lawn soil is hard as a rock it's not your typical clay soil fact the soil here is sandy loamy soil.. It's so hard I can't get it to get it to get soft enough to in order to areate.. What can I do?
Just moved, new yard. Covered with clover. And several bare spots that has gravel in the dirt. I’ve got my hands full. What to tackle first? Kill off the clover?
My pH only 7.51, yet PPM, Ca 850, Mg127, but boron .05, zinc 0, copper .03, iron .11. So barely alkaline but lots of micronutrient loss. I've got humic 12, RGS, iron, etc hopefully will find balance.
There is another similar product called MICROLIFE out of Houston TX that is great. MICROLIFE is a SSB (support soil biology) product . Safe enough for the Houston zoo to use around all there animals. I work for the Hermann park McGovern centennial garden in Houston a all organic garden and MICROLIFE is what we use for for all plants/turf. I use it on my turf for the safety of my family.
I can’t find zeon zoysia seed. I know it’s difficult to start from seed, so I need Jonathan Green to provide the seed with an easier to germinate and a solid process for seeding success. Zeon Zoysia is the slowest ever to grow and you don’t find it in single sod pieces when you need to do repairs. Reseeding seems the obvious choice but if it exists, I can’t find it. Any recommendations? Love your vids!!
The Love Your Soil product works. I am here because I tried it this year and can't believe how healthy my grass looks, it's never been greener or thicker. I've been battling compacted soil and decided to try this before throwing in the towel and rototilling, so far this stuff has been amazing. Came here to see what else they had to say about it, everything makes sense. Thank you!
Interesting and educational discussion today. I just received my lawn soil analysis, my first thought was the product Mag-I-Cal to raise my 5.6 PH. However my surprising calcium is 513.97 therefore is the Mag-ICal still the right product?
One of the key elements lacking in the Yard Mastery line of fertilizers is sulfur. This would be a great addition for next year's 2.0 edition. Currently these products are fairly ineffective in alkaline soils.
I have clay soil at around 7.6ph. Should I be applying sulfur periodically? The grass lays over during summer heat and drought, so maybe some calcium, also? P and K levels are high and I regularly apply nitrogen via Milo and Scott's Starter Fert at the first and last of the growing season. However, N readings are low. Could this be because Milo must synthesize before releasing it's N?
My soil test says I’m high in calcium and sulfur but my PH is 7.9. How do I go about adjusting it with this product? Seems like I wouldn’t want to add more sulfur and calcium.
Do you have any videos about using granular mosquito/insect product? Or a blanket chemical to spray on entire lawn? I live in plainfield, il...hello from Illinois
I just got the results back from your soil test and, surprise, even though I'm easy of the Mississippi my ph is high. The recommendation was 2 to 3 applications of Magical plus for alkaline soil. I had planned on doing some overseeding this fall and was wondering if that's ok if I apply the magical plus for alkaline soil?
Hi i have bought Love My Soil however now Im thinking of buying the Alkaline product one. How do i use both? Shall i just start n finish the Love your Soil first b4 i get the other? Ive been buying products like Andersons PGF complete n other stuff. However ive been purchasing n need to slow down. Anywho whata ur opinion bcuz my head is spinning now lol. Thx again
Just started vid.. but exited to see. Living in NJ I have used JG products for years. Funny thing would have used them more but followed your recommendations. Things are coming full circle. Black beauty grass seed is awesome.
Will SolarGreen do better than TTTF in the summer? Got a lot of people here in zone 7 GA that have TTTF but those lawns check out in the summer. What many of us have around here is warm season front yards and cool season back yards so we have one yard green at winter/summer.
All that great discussion and information about mag i cal for acidic lawns East of the Mississippi and those of us in the other 2/3rds of the country with alkaline soils get a 3 minute blurb about the mag i cal product for us. 😂
So glad you partnered with Jonathan green. I love theirs products
Thanks bro. They are good people too which means a lot to me when I partner with someone.
I love Jonathan Green's natural product line.
This is like finally meeting a Doctor that wants to sit , listen , not prescribe meds & address the the real issue you are having . A good feeling comes about because you feel like you’ve been heard . Can’t wait to see what direction this takes . Peace ✌️.

I rock with Jonathan green products

There's those handful of jerks out there that will thumbs down videos without even watching then.🤷♂️
Great educational video. Loved the analogy about the chemicals being different parts of a truck.

One bag buys 440 pounds of lime, the volume matters. Can do both
Glad I watched this I gotta get my soil tested I been procrastinating. I have the n-ext bio stim pack put down flagship yesterday. I have that red clay soil here in North Carolina which is rock hard but I gonna make it a rich soil.
I love this forum
Glad to see this back allyn
Thanks bro! Getting into the groove
Jonathan Green products are awesome. They are pretty much all I. I am also a Jersey Shore lawn nut and their headquarters is a couple towns over!

Allyn, have you thought about doing a lawn program using the Jonathan Greene products?
Yes Alyn, much more content would be great!!!! This all made so much sense and I enjoyed it!
Thank you for this podcast. I moved into a new build in Cincinnati and have an alkaline ph. This has helped a lot.
Jonathan Green's website says these products cannot be shipped to Arizona. No mention of this on the yardmastery site. Please clarify?
Hi Gary, we'll look into that and follow up!
Great partnership. I use their products my lawn looks great.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Very informative. Keep up the good work!
Great informative video thank you all
Great information. Great guests. I learned a lot. Thanks Allyn. Will try these products instead of the big box stores for a change.
I keep searching but I have yet to see a review of before and after for the products.
Hi! So my Ph is 7.5 and the Calcium is way way higher than the optimal amount. Can I still use Mag-I-cal for alkaline soil? Will it cause a further spike in Calcium?
Following
I’m in the same boat. High in calcium and sulfur with a PH of 7.9
I live in KC. Would Love Your Soil be the best option for my area? I just aerated and overseeded so should I wait to throw er down?
So glad you teamed up with them. I use Love Your Soul and Mag-I-Cal. Will use their shade grass seed soon. I buy their 4 bag annual lawn care that's for east of the Mississippi.
Please tell me how the 4 bag method has worked for you? Does it work well? Does the weed and feed green up etc work as stated does it keep weeds minimal? Let me know as I plan on using the 4 bag method starting in the fall
What an informative video. I never knew calcium was so critical. Thanks for sharing this.
Very informative!!! Thanks Allyn!!!
Great podcast!!!
Good stuff Allyn-always appreciated!
Very interesting.
Annnnndddd I’m on my way to LCN site for my third soil test lol. Did two last season and magical helps. I’ll keep using it to get my acidic Long Island Turf more neutral.
Allyn,
I planted over 100 Palmetto St Augustine plugs last weekend that I purchased from Yard Mastery and I had a really strange event happen today that may be of interest to your podcast listeners. Long story short, I went outside this morning and everything looked great, but when I got home from work this afternoon something had pulled out all 100 plugs from the yard and they were laying next to each of the holes they were planted in last Sunday!!!

Excellent video and content LCN! Im excited to try the SOLAR Texas bluegrass seed when it’s released. 👍
Is it okay to use loam top soil to level out an established lawn? I understand top dressing with organic compost is not going to work to level out lawn. Please advise. Thank you
What I don’t get is how is it neutralizing power up to 15x greater if it’s just a finer grind?
It neutralizes the soil at a faster rate but will be shorter lived. You can't change science. Granular chunks of limestone can take years to dissolve.... limestone that is powder is difficult to spread and can cake up or blow away...but can also have immediate affects. Either way it still takes "Y" amount of limestone to raise/lower PH levels by "x" amount.. assuming the same buffer capacity of the soil. Biggest thing to look for is the mesh % on the bag.
👏👏 That Awesome Truck Analogy 👏👏
Alan, where you been? Keep up the good work.
Great show Allen!
My pH only 7.51, yet PPM, Ca 850, Mg127, but boron .05, zinc 0, copper .03, iron .11. So barely alkaline but lots of micronutrient loss. I've got humic 12, RGS, iron, etc hopefully will find balance.
Absolutely fantastic!
WOW! Fantastic information.
There is another similar product called MICROLIFE out of Houston TX that is great. MICROLIFE is a SSB (support soil biology) product . Safe enough for the Houston zoo to use around all there animals. Here with high Ca, and a PH of 5.4, not sure what direction to go.
Loved the content. Bring back Peter for more.
Alan there are several questions below that ask.
Low Ph with High CA. Whats best solution?
Interesting and educational discussion today. I just received my lawn soil analysis, my first thought was the product Mag-I-Cal to raise my 5.6 PH. However my surprising calcium is 513.97 therefore is the Mag-ICal still the right product?
One of the key elements lacking in the Yard Mastery line of fertilizers is sulfur. This would be a great addition for next year's 2.0 edition. Currently these products are fairly ineffective in alkaline soils.
we have it in the starter fert 12-12-12 but yes for sure adding some for the others is a good idea
OREGON !!!! Love it.
So why can't they ship to Arizona?
I really need to listen to this! But with two kids, i can’t :-( it’s way too long lol
If I ha e a ph problem in a small part of my yard, and the rest is good can I just treat the bad area or do I have to treat the whole lawn
I've been using Hancock seed, but I may have to check these guys out for the fall
You won’t be disappointed. Trust me.
I was wondering why these products won't ship to texas?
Ok guys I'm buying a soil test ok!
Awesome video man. I love the truck analogy and I am going to figure out how to use that when I talk about VA claims🤠🤠
I think it's in the bag that you can add it when you're seeding
Does johnathan green have a straight kbg seed. I have all kbg mix in my lawn. Was told not to use a mix of kbg and tall fescue will not look good.
All that great discussion and information about mag i cal for acidic lawns East of the Mississippi and those of us in the other 2/3rds of the country with alkaline soils get a 3 minute blurb about the mag i cal product for us. 😂
This is awesome!
Keep doing this. Geeking out.
