Thank you so much for this video just put down the black beauty I'm in Texas.
And thanks for answering questions about this grass seed that I had questions about!
God bless you and your family 🙏
Thanks James! Happy and glad I could help sir!
How did it hold up in that tx heat! ?
I love the dark, blue/green color of the Jonathan Green Seed that I have used in both sun and shade areas. Zone 5, Western New York.
Good stuff
Dead on about the peat moss areas germinating first. Everywhere I put down peat moss the grass jumped up first. I know you're glad that day is over with. Good stuff buddy.
Yes sir, and yes, it was a long and tough day of work. Enjoyable knowing what I was doing, but hot and humid as well. Thanks for that tip on another video as well man! We appreciate your kindness Roadhouse. God bless you man! Thanks for watching my friend.
Your lawn still looks awesome because we have had some brutal heat this year in Central North carolina. I'm in greensboro area.
Yep, it's been tough, but this recent cool down has helped out tremendously! Thanks though, I appreciate it!
@@MrFergusonLawnanother frickin hot day here in Boston area. Close to 90 degrees. We are like 8 to 10 inches below normal for rain. Just brutal. We need rain! Rain is a good thing! Great song from Luke Bryan!!
Lawn is still looking good man..
For your bermuda fight next year, just found out round up crabgrass destroyer has the same active ingredient as Pylex..
Good deal! Good to know that. Might be the way to go
Mr Ferguson. Yes Jonathan green seed is very good. Did you know you can get their Black Beauty sod from sodco but that is in Rhode island
I am still looking pretty good over here in Kernersville NC. I haven't watered. We have had just enough rain to keep it alive. It has thinned out some happens every year. That's why we overseed in the fall. In a few weeks it will be that time again. I have good luck with seed at my local mom and pop ace hardware. They have their on seed. It's a fescue blend. It's a blend made of 3 best fescues tested to survive in nc by North Carolina State University.
Hello, I’m from Climax. What’s the name of the seed that you are using?
@@hopalongjohnny9797 It comes from Webster Brothers Ace Hardware in Walkertown NC. It's called Webster Brothers Hometown True Blend.
@@hopalongjohnny9797 If I remember correctly it's a blend of titan rx, talladega, and falcon IV
Im mixing some fine fesque ( Super Shade from United) on a small 100 sqft area right next to my house. I will be doing the Super turf II which contains 90 percent TTTF and 10% KBG which does really well in shade as well. I will be adding Tenacity since I'm doing an overseed on my whole front lawn. Does that shaded area by your house shift during different times of the year?
Yep. Sure does. However the JG DSM actually did well in the Sun and shade to be honest.
Fine fescue doesn’t like tenacity
Do you have videos showing what you are using this fall (2022)? thanks for the video helps!
Check out the Big Day video from last month. I basically use the same things, just mix up fertilizer brands each year. That might be what you are looking for.
Why do you switch fertilizer brands?
Great video brother. Please tell me what Drone you are using.
DJI mini 2!
Are Missouri summers too hot for the Johnathan Green grasses?
I think if it will survive in NC it will survive there lol.
I’m leaning heavy towards driving up and picking up some GCI for this year. I prob have 80% sun coverage on my whole yard. Are you still happy with your front yard and the GCI
I use GCI tall turf fescue and it is great. Quick germination (within 5-7 days)), does tolerate some shade, and gets nice and green. We live in northeast Ohio.
@@ChuckinOhio Charles. Did you go spreader elite or the original TTTF from GCI
Absolutely. It’s wonderful seed.
Should I wait 4 weeks after overseeding to put down tenacity?
How well does it deal with foot traffic? How long after planting can the kids run around on it?
It's recommended you seed in the fall time, when temps are around 60-70s. After about 2-3 mows, you are good to walk on it and if you can handle the stress...kids can play on it then too. Remember though, it's new grass. The roots are young and still nowhere near fully developed. Ideally, spring is when the kids can really play on it, as it's more established and less likely to damage the turf.
What does it mean if a lawn has low PH? What does that lawn need if in the north east/ Boston area. What products would you recommend for low pH. Thank you
Low ph need Lime added to it. If the ph is off grass will not grow properly. Lime is important! I typically add a little in Fall and Spring
@@MrFergusonLawn Thank you. I will apply when I get lawn aerated in early September. I am also top dressing lawn with organic compost. Might rent the echolawn top dresser. Have you seen this beast. So after aeration I will apply lime. I assume I should apply the lime right after aeration and then overseeding then topdressing?? How is that sequence?
Thank you for the guidance and help.
Best regards. Too bad we cannot post photos here?
I can make a recommendation if you can find it. For some reason maybe supply it wasn’t available this year at Home Depot. Its called “Lesco Premium Sun and Shade Mixture” I’ve had great results over the past few years in sun or shade. The cultivar label..
31.80% Merit Kentucky Bluegrass
31.07%Align II Perennial Ryegrass
17.84% Lacrosse Chewings Fescue
17.51%Boreal Creeping Red Fescue
I’m back with an update. I also found that Jonathan green grass seed of any type including the dense shade and black beauty ultra seem to lose its luster over time. Fade away and slowly die over the course of a New Hampshire summer and winter. In its place I put down a sun and shade blend that doesn’t get much praise or attention but it was readily available at the time I needed something. Not only did it survive the winter. It’s thriving and I have the greenest lawn on the street. The grass is very dark. It’s “Greenview”turf type tall fescue sun and shade blend. I ordered it through Home Depot. I would really like to know what you think of it. Your opinion is very valuable. Maybe try a test spot somewhere. I’m shocked how well it’s growing. Makes me almost wish I didn’t buy that big bag of Artemuss waiting for a fall. Thanks for all of your information. It’s very helpful.
@@sbond1963... Do you irrigate your Jonathan Green lawn on a regular basis?
@@blaiseducdaumont1280 yes I have irrigation. It didn’t seem to matter. The cold of winter and summer hot spells wiped most of it out. I planted Artemuss blend TTTF yesterday. Hoping its better
What seed did you end up planting in the back last fall?
Ahh…I see you found that video lol. I didn’t plant anything this past fall. It all survived summer. It’s the backyard I planted in fall 2021.
Can I plant this seed where is most sunny? Thanks 🙏🏿
Not ideal. It’s made for shady areas. You can try it though.
How did you handle the constant digging of the squirrels on new lawns?
Honestly I've never had that issue. My recommendation is to go to domyown.com, type in squirrels up top and see if it lists something they have to try? Best I got for you.
@@MrFergusonLawn man they are everywhere. Every morning i find myself putting dirt and trying to replant the new seedlings back. 2 weeks of this. Not sure if I should reseed every-time I cover the holes or just wait for the grass to be a-little bigger to put some weed and feed.
