Another way to use the hose to lay out your area is to set it how you want it to look and then leave the hose there for a couple days. When you remove the hose, the grass underneath will give you a natural yellowed line from where the hose kept the sun from getting to the grass and you won't have the hose in you way when you start your edging.

    • @UtahTabby

yeah, great idea, and you won't cut up your hose in the process.

You are quick & efficient as you are explaining what you're doing & why. I am amazed that I can cut out my own berm & make it as big our as small as I want it & do it efficient & professionally. Thank you young man. I usually start out with the person teaching and then I'm so bored with all the wasted time due to their own lack of know-how in communicating until usually for me, its's "I'm Out!" You passed the test in knowledge & efficient communication. Getting my half moon implement tomorrow and I'm going to work. THANK YOU! +Remember Mr George Floyd+

Thanks for sharing. A great way to determine the line is to have the grass long then use the lawn mower to outline the curves. This way the
lawn cutting will be smooth and easy too. Before cutting the rest of the lawn use the edge cutter to dig in as you illustrated. Using flour also is a great way to determine the line.

If you don't like to use spray paint because it is hard to fix, here is what an old friend taught me. Buy one of those ketchup squirt bottles, like you see in restaurants or hot dog stands, and fill it halfway with flour. Since they have skinny tips, you can aim and draw nice lines in the grass just by squeezing. If you don't like how it turns out, and want to try again, spray the line with your hose and it's gone. Enjoy!

I like your process. I'm a 76 yr old lady who does this stuff by myself. After I edged the bed using your process, I line the area with plastic and put red crushed brick on top of the plastic. I left round holes for hosta plants and a couple bushes. Weeds don't creep in, mowing is easy, not much to do with weed trimmer. Weeds and stony, clay, hard pack soil is what we have upstate NY. So we need to find easy ways to keep lawns pretty with less toil.

Funny, I did this 20 years ago when I created my mulch beds in my then new house ... hose, half-moon edger, seemed like a good way to do it. Do have to be careful though, you could inadvertently nick the hose.

Great video I would suggest laying plastic down when throwing the grass makes for a easy clean up you can pour the clippings and debris into a lawn bag right after

Looks nice but you are much younger, and got a hell of more energy that I have! Give me a Stihl gas power edger, and get my old ass in the house A/C as soon as heavenly possible!!

I was just about to buy a pallet full of paver edgers, but you have changed my mind. I'm going to try your technique instead. Thanks for the tips.
