Great tips. In particular, I enjoy analyzing the label on seed bags and looking into the various cultivars. At the same time, it gives you a good idea of what types are made with quality in mind. It's a great learning process!

I agree...it's fun to see what labels have on them.

Last fall, i did a complete renovation. I decided to go with Jonathan Green original because of the color. I wish they had spreading turff type tall fescue. Maybe you can talk to your ppl and let them know what the lawn geeks really want.

Great informative video! Have you ever had experience with the Artimuss TTTF from Heritage PPG? 0 crop/0 weed. I’ve seen several people in NC have good luck with this seed. It’s expensive, but it has some top-tier cultivars and comes coated with plant growth stimulator.

Great information, thank you. Would you recommend different seed varieties for different areas in your lawn? For example, my front takes a brutal hit in the summer with sun, but my side yard is mostly shade covered and has a moss issue. Thanks for any suggestions!

It can be beneficial, yes. For instance with disease; if it attacks your tall fescue, having rye or bluegrass helps slow the spread if you will. Not necessary, but one point that seems to make some sense.

Mr. Ferguson, thanks for letting the new folks know to watch the labels on grass seed. Small % of weed seeds on a label is a lot. Also, % of crop seeds is worse.

I have Kentucky Blue grass and Full sun in Reno NV so should I continue to use KBG seed when over seeding ?? After germinating the seed should I mix with Pete moss and then spread??

Thanx again Mr. Ferguson. Didn't realize we were basically being scammed with weeds in the cheap seed. I can be frugal in many areas, but always spend where needed for most anything! I actually started incorporating JGreen last fall. Our weather here is somewhat the same as we don't know how quick the temps cross over. Pouring down like a big dog right now with more to come through Wednesday. then I'll put down my new bag of Flagship and soil amendments. [ thanx again very much] Growing up around golf courses gave me somewhat of an idea, but never knew the fundamentals. I have been doing all my aeration and overseeding in the fall for 4 years now, and all my prevention in the spring. Things are looking up, but I need to make sure I also get my fungicide down at the right time this year.

I know you are "affiliated" with JG and all, you have your POA Triv battles, well many JG shade mix's have POA Triv in its seed as a mix.. why? It does well in shade, wet areas, it's actually a grass so things to consider.

I would love to see the evidence of that lol. JG doesn't put poa triv in their seed mixes. I know it can be possible for it to slip in by accident in seed mixes, sure, but they don't do it purposely. Plus all the areas I battle poa triv is not in the shade at all.

@@MrFergusonLawn yeah I tried but the UA-cam video from the JG representative I provided and posted here is somehow not publicly showing, almost like it's hidden... odd..

There are roughly 227,000 tall fescue seeds per 1 pound of tall fescue. To your point, if you aren’t buying weed free grass seed…you are adding 10’s of thousands of weed seeds to your lawn for every pound of grass seed being dropped.
