Hi Aly! I always look forward to seeing the looks you choose for your videos, you bring such variety to your fashion. This super elegant look, with your hair, earrings, makeup, top and pants so well coordinated, is a delight. If I may make a suggestion, on video the pure red and the black look very dominant and overly bright against your regular backdrop of white and soft, light shades. A temporary dark backdrop, plus a dark velvet drape over your pale grey chair, would make your bright clothing seem more at one with the framing of the shot.
Excellent video!! The stiletto heels that have become sooooo popular look absolutely ridiculous me along with "chunky" heels or shoes!! I'm 5'0" and fall on the soft classic Kibbe spectrum - I need a nice sleek shoe with no busy ribbons, straps, designs or super high heels. I love a good brogue shoe but I have to be very careful about it not being super masculine as well as wearing the right outfit with them. I love how you explain the why and how when looking at details such as the heel placement on shoes. High heels that have the heel start toward the "middle" of the ankle have a soft sweep to them that looks so feminine and sexy. The only thing is they are hard to find anymore! In the 50s and 60s you saw this heel placement much more.
The shorter pointed fronts for romantics and theatrical romantics are cute but even those end up looking too harsh against my lines. They do seem to work beautifully for narrow widths though.
Depends on what feet and ankles you have too. I can't wear heels with straps because they always make my ankles or feet look very wide and chunky and if it's in the ankle it also brings the impression of shorter legs too no matter what colour they are . This is because I have curvy legs and have a little width in my ankles and feet but I'm still small and delicate looking . If I put heels on with the small strap just right under the ankle or wear mules or flip flops I don't get that effect . It's the worst when there's a strap in the middle of the foot. I'm SG my sister is FG and she can wear any narrow strap and not look wider or shorter her feet and ankles are very narrow and so are her legs. The first place she puts in weight is her arms , jawline , waist and chest I don't know if that's an FG thing ? Unless she's eating very badly and having no exercise she won't put much weight in her lower half
100% agree. I also noticed that where the strap greatly influences how thick my ankles look. Even the sport shoes, if they are just a little too high, it widens my ankles. I have also noticed that the height of the heels also makes a difference in how the legs look. For example, a 5 cm heel makes me look thicker than a flat sneaker, and a 7 cm and up heel make my legs look much better. It's complicated 😅
I’ve always thought chunky looks best on me over the dainty shoes. It’s hard for me to breakdown if that’s bc i rebel against my soft natural lines, or bc they genuinely look better on me, lol. Great video, thank you!
My personal experience: Unfortunately, there is another aspect to be taken into account, which is shoe size. Yes, as a FN, elongated pointy or round flats fit my overall appearance very well. But with a size EU 41, they can look just like little boats ... (still wearing them, though) ;-). Second aspect: with slim and high ankles (with high but athletic calves ;-), high reaching ankle straps can attract the view just to the right places.
Definately, I am 5'11" and my feet are only size 8 and my hands are small too. So I need more length on my shoes and longer fingernails sometimes to harmonize my HTT.
As someone with a larger bone structure, I always find it absurd when UA-cam style people have the idea that chunky shoes are unattractive across the board. These are people who have no understanding of proportion; you are so right that chunky shoes can create balance for those of us with larger bone structures (love Robert Clergerie for this reason)!!
I know it’s not stylish, but as a true natural, I’ve found that really wide shoes both look and feel the best on me. My body can not taper out at the edges!
Same. As a probably soft natural I feel like it balances out my top heaviness (shoulders, boobs, wide head plus wavy hair) even though my legs are disproportionately skinny and I have small feet.
Similar here … I am FN with narrow feet and totally fine with Birkenstocks 😁 (I am such a German Kartoffel … 🙈) The elongation in the long vertical strap of the „Gizeh“ even repeats the „T“ of my overall silhouette. Bingo 🤩
@@JB-tt6ctas a thin, somewhat bony soft natural, I only can wear big, chunky shoes! Small shoes or flats just make my torso look so much larger than my legs/ankles, creating a sort of lopsided look.
Whenever talking about shoes don't forget mentioning what suits straight/bowed legs/X shaped - this really impacts what flatters you and what doesn't a lot regardless of the kibbe type
I'm a 5'4 plus size romantic type and I love combat boots with short skirts and tights I think It doesn't look that bad, though I don't wear them with pants, looks funny on me. Thank you for your tips 😊
5'5 FN here to vouch for this. I absolutely adore how I look in super chunky shoes that would dwarf most people, such as Moon Boots and Demonias. Amusingly, I was discussing my Moon Boots with a friend I think is a TR a few weeks ago and she was lamenting that she always looks ridiculous in oversized shoes that would look completely natural on me. I postulated that it might be due to her more delicate bone structure and feel so validated that you're on the same page with me. 02:56 This describes me to a T haha
So, do I understand it correctly, that if I cannot pull off any chunky shoes (especially in summer), then I definitely have narrow bones? I am 170cm tall, and my test results were dramatic classic, is that the conformation of my Kibby type?

1:33 is anyone able to tell me this woman’s kibbe type or kitchener essences? Tysm for this Aly, thinking of finding my range in a scale (rather than strict categories) has been helpful with a lot of aspects of style
I am fully Romantic (and also wider like Marilyn) and I struggle with narrow shoes. I always size up for extra space and I have difficulties with getting delicate or romantic friendly shoes because of it's narrowness (even though I absolutely love them) . If I pick a comfortable size, the straps and the shoes become too big. If I size down, I start to get blisters. Am I considered wide, delicate or both at the same time? How can I deal with this? Because as a Law student, it is expected from me to dress more chique and I have so much struggles with finding fitting shoes..
If it's width in the toe box you need, have a look at barefoot shoes. Most brands are sneaker/trail/everyday kinda shoes, but some brands like Shapen, Be Lenka and Origo make some dressy shoes that look quite nice, they're just flat and foot shaped instead of unnaturally narrow at the toe end. I've recently realised that for me, comfort and healthy feet are more important than wearing pretty, but painful shoes (after I wore 5cm heels three days in a row and was in so much pain afterward). So now I've gone down this rabbit hole of barefoot shoes 😅
Do you put the ingenue category under soft gamine nowadays? They used to describe the gamine as ,compact,"boyish", squarish soft small ,and the ingenue as , young girlish, small, soft (but not sharp fine delicate),dainty childlike.
I'm short and round, so pretty much all shoe recommendations for me are high heels. There's a problem - I can't stand them. All of them are so uncomfortable to me, I won't even try to get used to them, I don't think they are worth the pain. 😂
How would you recommend dressing a soft dramatic who loves classic timeless pieces? I'm a stay at home mother with three small children on a homestead. Glamorous is not in my wardrobe.
I think it works well for her because she is kinda going for the ‘Polly pocket’ cutesy vibe. I don’t think it looks super natural on her but she pulls it off well with the other aspects of her look!
It doesn’t make sense to do scents for body types haha, it will be affected by how perfumes smell on your skin and what your personal aesthetic and scent preference is.
Slingbacks are great on me as a SN. I have so many styles of shoes with a slingback. And a wide criss cross mule or slide is also good. Almond toe shape is good. Also try slip on loafer in suede with bendable soles. Ballet flats with slight heel. Barely there sandals with minimal straps. Open toe shoes or western style boots - i have slip in versions. Try on my pais and always go for comfort.
My legs are kind of short, meaty thighs but my ankles are thin and my feet are wide. I can't wear high heels anymore, so I put on almost flat comfortable Chelsea boots, loafers and the like . I don't care anymore, nothing looks good on them. I don't understand why I started to watch this video.
