I was as big a Christian music fan during the 70's & 80's as you could find. Though Larry Norman wasn't one of my favorite artists, I certainly liked some of his songs and saw him in concert. His album "In Another Land" (1976) is very good indeed. However, the 'Larry-praise' in this comments section is very strange to me. The plain truth is that he did all kinds of things that were wrong, weird, and inexcusable. He had major problems; maybe even paranoia. The blind idolizing evidenced by some in this column is actually disturbing. Personally, I believe this (late) woman's story, and it's very sad.

What I find disturbing through this whole thread, is the blind-faith, yes, BLIND faith in Larry Norman, another fallible human being. There have been posts here that equate "slander" on Mr. Norman, with slander on the Bible. Who are you kidding??
I personally have many LN albums, and still enjoy them. He was a talented and gifted man. He was a groundbreaking evangelist in the realm of Christian Rock, a genre he pretty much invented, but he was human.

I feel so sorry for Daniel. I wish Larry did the right thing. He didn't and just turned his face when he had a son who needed him. It's torture watching this as a Christian.

I don't understand why Charles and Kristin are being held responsible for whatever Larry did or didn't do. How is it their responsibility? Why are they being summoned? I'd be pretty upset if people hunted me down and wanted me to take responsibility for my brother's actions!

How exactly could these accusations be backed up more? We have the testimony from those closest to him, evidence of ongoing sexual immorality, horrific treatment of his SR employees . . . and now we have evidence of an illegitimate child. The more we learn, the more it adds up. If it were money Daniel were after, you think he'd go after a broke Christian artist?
Daniel's likely to be telling the truth, given the context of Norman's life. He had great music, but that's not the issue here.

Hello Daniel, glad to hear mom did a pregnancy test, ok, but since it's so easy to get any gov' to run a DNA identity test [as I had to do], why not get one? His passing away in 2009 doesn’t hinder this, just do it and move on?

It's about time that Daniel was recognised as Larry's son by Larry's family. As Daniel said, the music and the man are different.
Larry Norman frequently asked for money for his "medical expenses" yet he lived in a 5,000 sq ft. tri-level home when he died, he had MANY cars, and in a letter to Pamela, his first wife, stated that he had two Mercedes Benz amongst his collection. He also owned three other homes.

What this really exposes is the sense in which the church only accepts 'perfect people'..... a Christian's life can never NOT live up to the message, because the message is that we are HOPELESS without CHRIST! The church should (Past, present and future) embrace people like Larry Norman acknowledging their failures because it conveys a much more powerful message to the world than their ability (however empowered by the Holy Spirit) to abide by a moral code does.

I was an Australian Christian muso in the 70s and 80s, who loved Larry's work. I have spoken to someone who I believe would know, and satisfied myself personally that Jenny is credible.
I still love Larry's music, and I wish the Normans no ill, but the right thing should be done for Daniel. Charles would be able to pick up the phone and confirm very quickly that Jenny is not just a loopy fan, and that a DNA test is needed.
And an honest appreciation of Larry should be warts and all. Big wart!!

This is not the proper forum for this sort of a thing. Paternity tests could have been done way back when...and may even be possible still. Using the court of public opinion for something like this is not cool. Now that the man isn't here to defend himself make this especially screwy.

The devil tried to trip up God's own apostles in the same way; hoping that it would somehow make their message about God's love any less true. It doesn't. In fact, it proves that God still loved Larry even though he was human like the rest of us....So instead of allowing the devil to win, let us not forget his massage, Love your brother, love the Lord, and be ready when he comes back to get his imperfect but faithful bride, us! I hope we'll all be ready..........

Believe it or not, a lot of us have to forgive Larry Norman for his behaviour. Even fans who looked up to him have to do this. The musicians whose careers he harmed. He let down a lot of people.

This people demanded to see Larry's will, went to court, but not because of money? Larry stated in his requests that he wouldn't include Daniel in his will without a positive, certified DNA-test. He kept his promise, declaring in the will that he isn't Daniels biological father. Jenny lied in her open letter posted on the web, she knew this.

Your first sentence illustrates just how different your own situation is. Your second sentence provides insight into similarities in your own heart. It belies your own interest in knowing who he is. "Perhaps I'll find him one day" overtly expresses your continued search for your father. So, it seems that, in your heart of hearts, you would likely feel exactly like Daniel if you were actually able to "walk a mile in his shoes."

Exactly. The people so far that I've heard testify are
    1) Andrew, the husband who is TOTALLY trying to use this to rip off Larry's last posessions from Charlie who last I knew was living in his house. His protocol hasn't been remotely biblical. Note my interactions with him on facebook Larry Norman group and here.

I would be interested to know why a copy of an official birth certificate put out by the registery of births deaths and marriages of Victoria wasn't shown?
Also note that the Victorian Birth Certificates of 1989 did not need the father's signature. What was the significance of saying that he refused to sign?
The section of email read by Daniel was interesting because there was no admission in it of Larry claiming to be the father.

So she dated another man who looked just like Larry at the same time, eh? And by the way, someone in this thread said that Norman's family wanted to have a DNA test done and that Jennifer refused. The exact opposite is true. Larry Norman refused to take the DNA test. That speaks volumes friend.

  • @larrydavidnormanfan

Larry didn't know if he was the father. Certainly Larry had his doubts after Ian, Jennifer's deluded ex-husband, contacted Larry and claimed that he was the father of Daniel. That's why Larry asked twice (!) for a DNA test. He specifically told Jennifer and Daniel to engage in the test, or to stop spreading this rumors. Twice Larry asked for a DNA test, twice these people promised to engage, and twice they broke their promise. Question: was Ian tested?

Larry might be dead, but Daniel isn't . . . nor is the Norman family that he's supposed to be a part of. Is Daniel just supposed to shrug and say "Oh well, that's that" and allow the family to call him a liar? I hate to use the term, but maybe there needs to be some closure here for Daniel. Hmmm, I have to disagree with O'Toole. Yea, we should forgive, but that doesn't mean suppressing the true human story. There's nothing unbiblical about exposing hypocrisy. It hurts the cause of Christ when Christians try to cover it up, even when it's done in the name of "forgiveness". I hope the Robinsons will receive some grace from Norman's family. I guess I don't understand why Larry's family should be held responsible for any actions he did (or didn't) commit during his lifetime. He's gone, and there is no hope for a father/son reunion in this life. So, outside of wanting money, recognition, or maybe a little revenge, I can't see what you stand to gain. No DNA test result can force the family to have a relationship with you. So, what would you like to see happen after the DNA test, if positive? Sad for Daniel AND Larry's family.

A sad situation. It reminds me of something I have recently come to understand. Our most inspired spiritual heros are quite human and capable of sins we would rather not know about. If the Norman familty wants to "protect Larry's memory" why won't they do the DNA to clear this up? That being said... Perhaps Daniel should just accept that life isn't fair and move on. As in almost every squabble, both parties are wrong. It would be nice if SOMEONE in this fiasco would listen to the Spirit.

Nobody but Jesus can be Jesus...the way to healing is suffering...this is another human story of misunderstanding and pain, a lot of people go through things like this...God used Larry's music and Larry's public and private ministry powerfully. I suggest that Larry's family is guilty of protecting their financial interests. If they were interested in the truth, why not submit to a DNA test to end the whole thing?
I submit that it is because they fear that Daniel's story is true. If that's the case, it is THEY who are acting egregiously and likely means Larry did, too.

I completely agree with Monty O'Toole. Christians live by a higher standard. There is little to no money in Christian Music. Larry's talents were ahead of his time. G-d richly blessed and the devil worked in and caused serious trouble. Heb 5:8 says that we are to learn obedience to G-d by what we suffer just like Jesus. Monty is right. The cross is the place where this belongs. I am sure Larry would have been able to do as he promised if the fame and fortune was as big as some think it was. I happen to know that Brian Duncan who has 10 great Albums has to tour over 200 dates a year because of the lack of money that Christian Music provides for his family. This video is a sad thing that happened, but the real enemy is we who give in to satans passions and desires and then act as if we have done nothing wrong or even worse, turn a good marriage (in some cases) into a profitable venture for the courts to rape one of the marriage partners that is earning a living to drive them into poverty. This is a fact stated by the US Government and revealed in a document by Stephen Baskerville in His 85 page article, "Is There a Fatherhood Crisis". That article is much worse that this video and show the real enemy. I challenge any of you to read that!

From an interview with Larry's brother Charles: "Mike: She was with you and the band Q.Stone in Scandinavia October-November 1988.
Charles: I wasn't in Scandinavia. I went to Helsinki, then I went to Tallinn. I wasn't on that tour. I was in Finland and Estonia, but that's not a tour, that's two dates. Larry's tour was like six weeks long. When I talked to Jennifer on the phone I said, 'When are you claiming you got pregnant?' She said, 'After Finland. Right after the gig in Estonia, Larry and I went to England.' I said, 'Really? You went straight from Helsinki to England?' She said, 'Yes. We were there for several weeks, and that's when I got pregnant.' I said, 'That's really interesting, because that's not what happened with Larry. Larry and I stayed in Helsinki for a week, week and a half - we were very sick. Then we ended up in Sweden, and Larry and I were in Sweden for three or four weeks after that. Larry didn't go to England.' When I pointed that out to her, she said, 'Maybe it was another time.' That's what I keep on getting from her. This open letter she wrote to the media said she was on a six-week tour of Russia - or 10-week tour, something like that - and I pointed out there's no such thing. Larry and I never did a 10-week tour of Russia. Then she changed her story again.
Mike: She was on the dates in Finland and Estonia, and Daniel was born July '89, nine months later, so biologically it is very possible.
    Charles: Time-wise, it's possible.
Mike: When did you first hear about Daniel Robinson?
Charles: I don't know, several years ago. I heard a rumour in Holland, years ago. There's a rumour that Larry had a child in Australia, and I said, 'OK, there's lots of rumours about all sorts of wacky stuff.' But I didn't talk to Jennifer until right after Larry died. Larry had demanded a DNA test. When Daniel was like 15 or 16 years old, Larry had been sending him emails and birthday presents, so Larry finally wrote to Daniel and said, 'You're old enough to now to know the truth, and you need to talk to your mom about this. You're not my son, and you can't keep on writing letters to me saying, Dad. We need to get a DNA test.' So Larry repeatedly demanded a DNA test, and that went nowhere. They say that that didn't happen; I have the emails that prove it did happen, and Daniel responded to Larry - so there was correspondence there. There's no way to fake what's called the long-header in an email. Every single email has a unique identifying number. I've got those emails, and if they want to contest that, say that Larry never demanded a DNA test, I can show them the emails."

    @knectone Ya, right...
Larry wasn't a rich man, and left with huge medical bills. What are you trying to cash in on?
(and how long will it be before my comment is removed along with all the other ones calling b.s. on you)?

if Larry is not the father why would he sign anything? just accusing the man without out proof is nothing more than accusation.

I see a lot of people talking about this as though it is a "Christian" issue. It's not. It's a human issue. It's a celebrity issue for some of us. It happens to involve a man well known for being a Christian.
For those who suggest it's all about money, I say, "So?" In the first place, the kid has a right to know and not be a bastard. In the second place, if Larry IS his father, he has a right to some of his estate like Larry put in his will at one time.

PS I don't think anyone should get a 'free pass'. I think society should have reasonable laws. GIVEN how enticing women can biologically be to men, IF it can be proven that he was in YOUR place by INVITATION when the act occurred, and the man claims he was enticed, courts should hold the woman primarily responsible for the act. IF it was in HIS place and SHE was there by invitation then it should be primarily HIS responsibility. UNLESS it's a rape case obviously!

Maybe Larry changed tunes after he found the baby was to be named "Daniel" . . . perhaps he felt this was a deliberate reference to the band he neglected and tried to destroy? ;-)

  • @ricadrew
    @ricadrew 14 років тому

Wow, if this is true, I'd be very disapointed. Not about having a baby out of wedlock (cause we all fall) but that he would abandon his own kid. I hope the truth will come out either way and settle this once and for all. I think they should be allowed the paternity test.

cant help but hear the guitar licks from "he th rock that doesnt roll" every time i see or hear the name Larry Norman. when i think of all the great songs i like to tap my feet to eg
readers digest, 6 oclock news, great american novel, visting etc etc. Would these be missed had they never been written? No course not! Am i glad i got to hear them? you bet. can we just move on.? Or not. whatever works for you at this time. no judgement here.

This is a really sad post. I was a fan of Larry for many years since the early 70's. Larry has changed through the years, as we all do. But in the early days, he would have been the first to say that the title "Man of God" is not the end of any story.

continuing. Larry's relatives aren't responsible for Larry's actions even if he was responsible. But the mother in the worst case scenario here..didn't take responsibility to keep out of pre-marital sex. God STILL has a good plan for your life but you won't find it by this avenue. I'm just a 48 year old virgin who's turned away the advances of several who were quite attractive to me and prayed for them instead. They marry the guy they dumped for me. Whatever. In God you develop integrity.

  • @ChristopherWyant

I wouldn't say that. Legal issues frequently have nothing to do with truth or justice.
And I'm kinda guessing that the ones seeking the DNA test have a pretty firm belief that they would be vindicated or they wouldn't be pressing for proof.

  • @snuggleupisus
    @snuggleupisus 15 років тому

She already proved it by saying she had pre-marital sex. That is the part I am sorry for, NOT the aledged story that her son is from Larry Norman. Do you agree?

I am a brand knew fan of Larry Norman. After hearing his one song, that seemed modeled on Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues, I was hooked. The allegations are possible. Being human makes him as fallible as anyone else. He sang about Jesus, but still may have fallen. The thing that I don't understand, is why the family wouldn't, agree to a DNA test. Unless they had strong suspicions that Larry was the father, and they were afraid that the affair, would be bad for business.

There's something about a "shirt" that comes to mind here. And somehting else about letting the "least of us" make a judgement before taking a matter before a court. And another about Love. If this is Larry's kid, there's no harm done to any reputations that really count. Now if it were Jesus' kid...fair dinKum!! No one'll pull the wool over God's eyes. The sooner either side comes clean the faster we can see the miracle of God in all this. Love!! Don't miss the point!!What a chance to show it!!

Jen, what is it you want from this? Stuff happens, and all we can do is move on.
I thought Daniel got it right in the video. Larry was a great musician who had his failings as a human being. I knew that before I read your story. If people contribute to fund a DNA test what would the test change? Daniel is an adult now and Larry is dead. If Larry was a deadbeat dad, it seems too late to fix that.
Whatever your answer, I pray that you and Daniel find peace.

I'm not saying this is a lie and i'm not saying it's truth, I don't know. But quite honestly, it's really not my business anyway. It should be kept private until there is DNA proof. Sure, as a fan of Larry's i'd hope it's not true because i'd lose some respect for him. But if it's true and Larry never signed the birth certificate and was never a part of Daniel's life, how can it come as a surprise that he didn't include any of you in his will?

Would US law take affect in this matter when the patitioner is from another country? Just asking, cause I'm not familiar with these laws.Well either way I do hope there could be a way to either prove this is Larry's kid, or prove that Larry didn't abandon his kid. Look, knowing the things he's said and stood for, I can't imagine he'd have a problem with people knowing this if it's true. He never said he was better than this sort of thing and never judged it. But still,it needs to be set straight

@SugarRose25 How do you know this?
Are you somehow privy to testing that was done of which the rest of the world is unaware?
As a follower of Jesus, it is sad to watch people lie in a public forum like this. It's even sadder to see how gullible folks can be, buying into this woman's scam.

  • @gmdinformation

Damn right it was Norman who refused the test, and everyone who knows both parties (like Randy Stonehill) will tell you so. Now his dufus brother and other family members are displaying his own propensity for telling lies.

@failedangle: don't spent your words on this David guy. He only made two lousy documentaries, which only contains lies, nothing else. Did you see anyone in his sad excuse for a documentary who was saved because of Larry's ministry (like Andy wrote above)? No, like they would be so hard to find. David, you should be ashamed, even more then that! Next time, take on someone who's still alive! Ough! That could cause a problem, because this guy would expose your lies.
