If you could combine the onstage magnetism of Mick Jagger, the lyrical brilliance of Bob Dylan and the personal fragility of Brian Wilson, you would only have begun to scratch of the surface of Larry Norman. FALLEN ANGEL: The OUTLAW LARRY NORMAN recounts the rise of the father of Christian rock music as the rock 'n' roll Billy Graham' of the 1970s through to the height of success as the visionary behind Solid Rock Records before a personal meltdown and subsequent fall from grace exiled him to the margins of the Christian subculture he helped create.
A study in polar contrasts, Larry Norman's story presents the viewer with a complex character grappling with the price of genius, the struggle made all the more difficult because Norman chose to make his mark within a religious subculture struggling to define its place within the world. Too religious for the rock 'n' rollers but too rock 'n' roll for the religious crowd, Larry Norman is the perpetual outsider, ultimately imploding under the weight of trying to fuse his position as the musical voice of the Jesus movement with his desire for '70s rock superstar status. Is he the misunderstood musical prophet of the Christian world? Is he an outlaw conning the faithful? Larry Norman is a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction.
Told mainly from the perspective of those who worked with him and loved him during the height of his success, feel the power of the music he created as refracted through the inconsistencies of the life he led. Experience the forgiveness offered by those most hurt and witness a glimmer of grace against the backdrop of moral failure. Fallen Angel is a rock n' roll epic of biblical proportions.
Fallen Angel is the second documentary by Canadian documentary filmmaker David Di Sabatino. His first release Frisbee: The Life and Death of a Hippie Preacher garnered an Emmy nomination and has been played on PBS-affiliate KQED in San Francisco since 2006.
Fallen Angel tells the story of Christian rock 'n' roll icon Larry Norman from his early days as the lead singer of a popular San Jose-based band named People through his emergence as a ""Jesus Music"" icon in the early 1970s. The movie centers on his establishment of Solid Rock Records in the mid-1970s and culminates with his death in early 2008.

Seriously. After one of Larry’s concerts he came over to me and started a conversation with me back in 1985. I’m still shocked that he came over to me and talked. We had a nice getting to know you conversation

Im reminded of David. He committed adultery and (arguably) murder of Bathsheeba's husband. And yet, for all of his flaws, God favored him and used him to build a nation. As much as I hate the way he treated others, I know that God loved him and his music is a blessing.

Larry was a leader who did not care what others though or he would not have been the father of Christan Rock. When a leader lacks humility and accountability and does not care what people think about them they can get out of control.

Contrast him with someone like Keith Green. Keith was every bit the radical, singer-songwriter Larry was, and God also used him in a powerful and mighty way. But Keith Green practiced what he preached, and in fact, was so mindful of doing everything in ministry for the right reason--to the extent that he didn't want to accept profits from live concerts. He wanted to exalt Christ above money

I agree with you totally. Larry was dealing with narcissism, a disorder that is hard to understand, accept, or change. Larry was a tormented soul. You can see it. He needed (as all narcissists do) healing in his mind and soul. I was at ORU when Keith was there and a revival was sparked by his presence and ministry there. He was giving away his 'No Compromise' album. Keith was sincere. There is no doubt about that. I do think that there has to be balance in our lives regarding, to one extreme 'humility' and a hunger for God and, the other side, knowing that you have God in your soul and the power that comes with that. Considering that Keith had only been a believer for 8 years when he went to heaven, he helped us all come back to a place of repentance and true humility before God. He allowed God to use him in a great way. What we all need (in my opinion) is trust and faith in God. We likewise need to develop to the point of having that 24/7. Repentance begins that process. Faith empowers us along the way. Keith certainly demonstrated both.

Same story here, Rick, I got to know Larry's songs in the 70s and they brought me close to Jesus. Perhaps he wasn't perfect, but he is still my hero.

Of course, I am very disheartened to have learned these things about Larry as I was quite naive back in the day, however, I didn't necessarily believe that he was some infallible person. But, I did expect more. As I look at my own life, I can't excuse or reason away my own failings to live up to what I expected of myself. There have been sins that I have committed as I too haven't lived 100% pure and holy as most one set the standard of what they deem 'pure and holy.' I do know this, I love God and I love other people whether they be sinners or saints. I know that I have a personal, intimate relationship with God now more at 65 years old than I've ever had. I don't think I was ever intentionally a fake, but I do know that I hid my own sins as I think anyone does or would. It was said of the great man of God, George Muller, that he walked as Enoch walked in the Bible. He walked with God 24/7. There was the proper balance of faith, humility and a true and deep desire to walk in the Spirit every day of his life. As I watch some of Larry's old concerts here online, I can see the torment in his soul. But, I can also hear the true love of God coming out from his voice. He wasn't the devil. He was a tormented soul. Narcissism is a disorder that is hard to understand, hard to accept by others and hard, if not impossible, to change. Thus, it is nearly impossible for any of us to know what to do with such a person. Larry's desire to control others was in fact a lack of trust in God. All sin comes down to a lack of faith and trust in God. Infidelity stems from a lack of faith and trust in God. Stealing is a lack of faith and trust in God. Lying is a lack of faith and trust in truth/God. Manipulation is a darker lack of faith and trust in God. Our key focus is building our faith and trust in God to supply all that we need according to his provision which is more than enough.

We cannot put anyone into heaven no matter how good they appeared to be, but the people in the comments below have forgotten that.
And I'm wondering if you all have listened to these people who were close to him who all have things to say instead of dismissing them. They even have pics of him with his son from Australia! Wake up!

Have you forgotten that Christianity teaches that nobody is saved by being a good person?!
The whole book of first and second Corinthians is written to carnal Christians still saved but walking in the flesh.
Who are you that you judge another mans servant?

This is hindsight NIT PICKY ACCUSATION WORTHLESSNESS. Larry Norman wanted more ministry/friendship with Randy, but, it takes two willing to be 'friends' and to minister together. Pioneers in Christian mass media art is a hercules task of difficulty. Where do you play and minister? Churches rejected it by and large. Even today. We took note that Larry Norman was never the same after the brain injury from the airline compartment door. His music wasn't the same and his words weren't the same. So all of this took a lot of sacrifice by Randy Stonehill and Larry Norman and OTHERS. Few did $$ well -- others sacrificed their lives. Others -- people bringing ministry to their area sacrificed $$ and etc.
