Beyond Python, back in 77, Captain, Vanian and Rat informed me more about British humour than anything. And if it wasn't enough, they were the hardest, speediest, almost proto-hardcore-sounding, punk group in existence before the 80s. hail the Damned!!
Someone who didn't know the band asked 'the Damned? are they heavy? 'No' I replied, they're a laugh, and here's the evidence to back that up. My fav band ever 👽

I was a big-busted girl then(29-DD) & I loved the hilarious b&w stripper shots- then Sensible got hit with a beer bottle& his Frampton wig fell off, Vanian had to hold him back from going off-stage- but even better, Sensible looked like he was gonna cry !!! They weren't cartoony live. Unfortunately, The Damned were misunderstood by the industry just didn't know how to market the Damned. Even when they released Phantasmagoria the record label (MCA) didn't know how to market them. Are they a goth band, a punk band, a pop band?
@@chickybluetherealone The Damned were not ahead of their time, though they were better musicians than many of the other punk bands of time. Malcolm McLaren is on record stating that The Damned were too good as musicians and it was the main reason he didn't want them anywhere near the same stage as The Sex Pistols. The Damned were thrown off the Anarchy in the UK Tour just for being better musicians than The Sex Pistols and The Clash. Don Letts has said the same as well. Still my fave punk band. Loved them as a 20 yo punkette. I'm 64 now and still love them!❤
In loving memory of Algy Ward. Enjoy the walk on the Long Path, brother.
Hail Tank too!
@@karllux-d6g Absolutely.

Classic brilliant rock band and great sense of humour, love how the guitars are not even plugged in.
Theyre punk, not rock
It was wireless. They were ahead of their time!
Neat how CS can play a guitar with no neck.
@@Blooblooblahblahwho cares? They’re the Damned. They transcend labels.
@@Blooblooblahblah You do realize that punk is rock 'n' roll, right? Punk rock? You're just trying to be difficult for the sake of being difficult.
Rat Scabies. Never was there a more great name for a drummer.
I LOVE the Damned. They absolutely kick ass and Dave's voice is the cherry on top.
I must have watched this a million times! Never gets old.
I've told you a million times
DO NOT EXAGGERATE !

A mate of mine knows them really well , and they are so funny
As a Damned fan of 40 years. I agree with you. Saw them on top of the pops in 1980, as a child and loved them. Love Davies 'drac' look!! 😅👍👍
Strawberries 🍓
I like them better than anyone I’ve ever played or not music with except for Mr DG
Machine Gun Etiquette. I bought it then, I still listen to it once a week or so now. Brilliant.
The Captain, looking particularly beautiful in his Woggle Monster outfit! :0)
0:22 RAAT SCAABIIEESSS!
He sounded like one of Mr Hilter's supporters in Minehead in '69.
Captain Sensible - the most underrated guitarist of all time …..
Algy Ward too.
Hell yeah ❤❤❤
everyone on youtube is underated
But not the less irritating...and I love their music despite that.
Bob Conan Owen, do you know what guitar is Ray using on this video ? Looks like a Mosrite, but i'm not sure .... Thank you!
That's called momentum right there. When I'm feeling' down, I watch this. Thanks man
RIP Algy Ward - Love Song had one of the most brilliant intro bass lines ever 😪
His band Tank ruled
This sucks to hear. The dude had a hand in the best Damned album and by effect, one of the best punk albums ever
@grahfkarate1799 Tank owns. Right there with Motorhead. Absolutely phenomenal.
Algy played on the best album by The Saints, as well, before joining The Damned.
You can't help but love The Damned....
Damned for ever..!!! Dave IS thé most sexy vampire in the World ...so british and si mystérious ..!
Running away from dave like that was is the goofiest shit ever- i love it ❤️
Watch the german crowd: sitting like in a freezer, hahaha. I was 18 in this year , a punkrocker of course and a big damned fan.
Great band saw em live in 78 great piss taking with the miming just like a lot of punk bands did at the time.
One of my all time favorite songs!

This is the best video of the Damned I've ever seen.
That bass line...
Punk/rock perfection!
