I'll be 59 in a couple days and I still listen to this song now and then. It's brilliant. I love the production and arrangements on this version. When you listen to the original and other folksy covers of it, all the main parts are there, but this version really tightens up everything (including that meandering acoustic part that follows each chorus on all the other versions) and adds all kinds of really cool layers for dramatic effect. Easily one of the best covers ever! Love it.

@@gmantramp404 When did you invent that bullshit in your brain? Lol.. Their sound started in 1976 before it became mainstream.. by the 80's they experience a shift to new wave like most good bands. It went well, at least for me.. by the 90's, they were signed to Nitro Records, and put out a very dearing albums (and there after). They continue to put good shows and good songs and play fan favorites in the new era. I prefer them as oppose to the shit from the last 20+ years. Real shit.

The Damned remind us about something we tend to forget - punk rockers of the 70s did not grow up listening to punk, they were influenced by bands such as Love, and probably a lot of others that would have never spoke their name in the light of day for fear of being laughed at. Punk rockers at that time were awfully fascist in their attitudes about music. It's no surprise this came out in the late 80s, as opposed to the late 70s, when a lot of their fans would not have got it. Damned fine version Love it.
You know I think any type of musician is influenced by multiple types of music and yeah you are right at times they may keep that under wraps but it does come out. Heck with The Clash I could hear bits of rockabilly, touchs or ska, reggae, etc. I would be bored if any genre of music just had one solid style to it.

A superb cover!
WOW, Dave Vanian, a fan of LOVE....knocks me out. Great!
I'm a Filipino. Napaka Ganda at perpekto ang kantang ito. The Damned one of my new wave band 80s idol. Rare music I love their song
I think the Damned may be my favourite punk act because of how diverse and interesting they are musically.
Totally agree.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Dunno how you think a punk act who diverts from being a punk act and who haven't been been a punk act for decades can still be a punk act 🤔🤔🤔👎👎
Real shit.
@@gmantramp404 I'm not. Wtf is punk anyways to you old man? To me it's pretty much dead. I look back.. the "scene" is all in the past. I live in NYC.. the once mecca for the open scene. It's rather a thing of oblivion then say.. modern still. The Damned are punk cause I say they are. It's my statement.. don't like it than defy me!
They evolved b beautiful band
Wow...i dont know what else to say....just heard Loves version for the first time and now this....praise you tube, praise Love, praise whoever directed this amazing video.
Now that's a intro that reaches the soul of the heart.
Agreed!
I'm too young for the 60s... heck, I'm barely old enough to remember the 80s... You can hate on this song all you want, but if it weren't for The Damned covering this song I would have never heard of this song or the band Love. Either version, to me it's a beautiful song, so I'm glad the Damned introduced it to the generation of my youth.
Well I was always a Damned fan and didn't remember that this was a cover, so you taught me something.
Desktop Kitty lol i thank russian doll tbh
I’m 23 right now and acid introduced me to this song.
Jakob Haroldson the og version on dmt was the most surreal breakup song i ever experienced
Robert Michael oh fr?
Man I could listen to this song Over and Over , it is Sooooooook Frieking Awesome sounding . I never knew who played it , and I waited and Waiyed for it to come on Sirius/XM and it got played a couple days ago . I was Soooooo Stoked , and I looked it up and added it to my Playlist!!!! Awesome song!!!!👍👏👏👏💖❤
The guitar is so expressive. I love it.
I heard 5 different versions of this song. I always find myself coming back to this one followed by the original from Love. I could listen to this over and over without getting tired of it.
Agreed.
This song and video could sell me a million memories and products and i would buy them all ,absolute classic
This is a great version of the song by Love, 1967, and the imagery of the video is spectacular.
That jangly guitar just kills me! Knew and loved this song back when it released, but did not own a telly back then, so this is my First Time seeing this vid and... Perfection!
Oh my gawd..when KROQ FM LOS ANGELES used to play this song...I stopped whatever I was doing...and FELT IT.
I “Love” this song
it’s a “Damned” masterpiece
Me, too ❤️
Not many people know this was the 1960s band Love
who did this. Written by Bryan MacLean and sung by
Arthur Lee. One of the forerunners of the garage/punk
bands.
God damned tune
@@itwasntmeboningbivvy181 the excellent Us band Calexico also often played this song live during their numerous Tours over the years : ua-cam.com/video/54Zrhtc08_o/v-deo.html
@@itwasntmeboningbivvy181 Looking at the comments, I think they do.
Totally obsessed xxxx that nerve it touches is directly linked to my young self
Same here. LOVE The Damned!!
Odette Uys indeed it’s Amazing!
Odette Uys
Me too....early 80s
Only thing that keeps me from h going postal in a world full of Drake's and Kanyea's, and Lil Pumps, and two chains, and Migos(?) and Ariana Grande...God save my soul!
Odette Uys I totally agree. Sends chills every time I hear it
Does it really get better than this? Epic video and song. Top 10 in your 80"s list.
Roman and his guitar 😍😍 goosebumps right from the start❤️❤️❤️
DJ pepe le piu❤
I'm chain-watching these Damned video, absolutely fascinated by Dave's voice, attitude and beauty as well as by the other guys' great talent...can't stop
Totally!
So so true
You know I think any type of musician is influenced by multiple types of music and yeah you are right at times they may keep that under wraps but it does come out. Heck with The Clash I could hear bits of rockabilly, touchs or ska, reggae, etc. I would be bored if any genre of music just had one solid style to it.
"Punk rockers at that time were awfully fascist in their attitudes about music." Ohhhh boooo hooo, I'm so sad and repressed uhhhghghghhh. my superficial tastes will be judged, oh man I'm just so oppressed
DiamorphineDeath Well said. Captain Sensible said in an interview years ago, he went to early Soft Machine concerts.
Discovered the genius of Arthur Lee and Love after hearing this cover by The Damned many years ago. Thanks to The Damned for introducing me. Brilliant version.
jolie version chapeau aux dams ce morceau de guitare te laisse sans voix arthur lee menait le groupe c était génial
I have to say that the Love version is tonnes better. Forever changes is a perfect album :)
Arthur Lee had nothing to do with this song btw
@@lovewalruss ok yeah to be fair Bryan McClean wrote that one. I definitely prefer the Love version yo this either way.
Una obra de arte. Gracias por subirla saludos desde Argentina
My favorite song by the damned
I was the LD for a bunch of gigs during their PHANTASMAGORIA tour, Dave is one of the coolest cats I have ever met, and The Captain is hilarious...
A brilliant and very respectful cover of a timeless classic. And the video is a gas!
Viva los Love. Viva los Damned! Arriba, arriba!
I’ve been listening to this song nonstop because the lyrics are 100% my life right now
Aaaah- same. Just discovered it too. What a treat.
Masterpiece of this excellent group. Effectively this song belongs to the album "Anything". This video I saw when i was a teenager, but this version is fabulous. Mixture Western, truck, a dancer, sand, Merrick (R.I.P), Jugg, Scabies and Vanian. This video is wonderful.
magnifique
je connais ce groupe depuis longtemps meme vu en concert
Hi Katherine,hope you okay ?
Got this on 12inch when it came out in 87 brilliant cover along with eloise
One of the best songs ever written.
I cannot explain why, but this song is entirely on another level. Wow.

The first punk rock band DAMNED BUT NEVER FORGOTEN
I'm sure most people have never heard of the Young Ones. Shame.
I'm sure not too many young folk have heard of the Young Ones. Shame.
Bunny and the bull brought me here. Crazy film, great song 👍🏻
I rediscovered this song after not hearing it for 55 years. Where did the time go. I don’t like living in the past but I just can’t forget that time in my life.
Dude, the song is 35 years old not 55.
It's a cover by Love
The guitar, pacing, and horn section make this the best version of this song. Period. The spaghetti western style of the video is icing on the cake.
I honestly cannot get enough of this song. It’s like you learn something new about it every time you hear it. Beautiful take on the original. Though I enjoy the original I do enjoy this one quite a bit more.
I loved this version of The Damned as well as all the other iterations. Great playing on this entire LP.
Awesome original song and probably the best cover ever. Love you damned guys, forever fan
Extremely haunting what a thumping feel. my goodness.. play it loud and yes it will bring a tear to your eye it’s a very emotive version.. brilliant
This song Has to be one of the greatest of all time. High school days....
Esta canción es una joya, el video tiene ese torque surrealista, muy Daliniano. Es fantástica la mixtura entre el western, la música con toques flamencos y el estilo de los británicos. Excelente.
Wouldn't have thought anyone other than Love could pull this song off. Excellent cover and video as well. Bravo!
This song is so beautiful and it’s classic I remember this in highschool 30 years later still good! 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Hi Laura,hope you’re okay ?
