Ive only had it for one day so far, but im using the Faderport 16. Im a Studio One user, so it seemed like a great option to start with as my first controller. I got it in hopes that physical control will make the DAW experience more enjoyable and inspiring.
Great video! I’m a huge fan of Reason! I think out of all the Daws Reason sonically sounds the best to me. I use the Nektar Panorama P4 to control Reason, but I would like a full console layout to control Reason. You just got a new sub and like from me. Thanks for posting.
I had the Presonis Faderport 16 it worked fine but I found after the honeymoon period was over I didn't find it that helpful so I sold it but I do have the Presonis solo unit and it works just fine. I mostly use it for transport controls. Great video ty.
I was looking into a physical controller for Logic Pro. I tripped over Logic Remote for iPad and had my mind blown. So good IMO that for my humble needs I'm no longer considering a physical controller.
Definitely good topic, especially if you are mixing sessions. Personally I’m looking into the SSL environment. I used to have a Digi 002 console but I sold it a while back. Thanks for sharing 🫡
Great topic! I had a FaderPort 16 for 4 months and I was impressed, but then it just sat around. I guess I just don’t mix enough, so I took it back. My Novation LaunchKey MK3 faders, knobs and transport work great - no motorized faders, but it’s enough for me. I’m using the LaunchKey as a control surface with Logic, and I’m using it every day.
@@kennethhwilliams3350 the Arturia Keylab is almost the exact same as the LaunchKey - just Arturia has fewer pads and the mod and pitch wheels are in the wrong place.
Man. Great video. I am trying to get into using controllers. I bought an Akai midimax to work with Studio One. The midimax is not working. This is why i clicked on this video. Most of the people I've come across using midi controllers write cinematic music.
Great video, I haven’t used a controller with motorized faders, transport on my S88 mk2 and a presonus Atom. Since I use S1, I am looking forward to your faderport video. Keep up the good work
I haven't been doing full songs. I have primarily been making beats in the MPCX so I've been using qlinks for the tactile aspects. With that said, I purchased FL Studio not that long ago so I got an Akia Fire. I'm certain that I'll end up using controllers as I grow and advance in this production journey. Many years ago when I was doing full songs, I used a usb mixer.
I'll know real soon how well the Icon controllers work. I have the Euphonix MC Control and Artist and I'm retiring them because of non-support by AVID. I looked at most of the controller on the market. I should receive the Icon stuff within the week
Im currently on an avid s3 paired with the old artist transport. Is true what you've said, them avid controllers do not work in reason, I have tried. I was looking at the softtube console 1 mk3. It is starting to saprk my interest but, no transport control and no motorized faders seems incomplete
The Faderport 16 has a dedicated section just for controlling plugins. Be careful about switching to a control surface. Once you do, you’ll never want to go back to mouse clicking.
Fader port look dope...but im so away from analog/boards....i have a midi controller...enough to work with my daw...my workflow so fast that way...... I tried everything 😂 My screen is 60 inches i can add 200 tracks easily and move the faders in increments holding shift and my mouse. Physical controllers cant be pushed that small in numbers. Im a ALL AROUND music maker so i set my midi controller knobs and buttons to very important things..besides that my mouse and keyboard for shortcuts. Your studio look nice man
The only thing for me about the Faderport, it's not an expandable item like the Icon Pro Audio stuff is or Avid and SSL's. Most surfaces are main units that can be chained together. Some make a main and then extenders. I want my home studio to look like a big studio with a console but being at home most people have limited space so being able to expand is huge.
I should have bought one but I have not yet... one there are so many out there did not know which one to get and now funds have been lite but I would like one.
About Reason control surfaces: I've heard that the brand Nektar makes hardware that is deeply integrated with Reason workflow. I've never tried it, but I plan on it asap.
Every Nektar controller/keyboard I ever had worked flawlessly with reason just plug and play… BUT, buttons start glitching out after 2 years like clockwork with every device I’ve owned, and I handle my stuff gently.
You said you haven’t found a controller that works well with plug-ins, but I am having really good results with Ableton and the push 2. I use macros to assign knobs to the push and I know every time I highlight a compressor, the first knob is always threshold, the second is ratio followed by attack, release and gain. Then the last three usually specific to the plugin, if it has different modes sometimes I’ll set them to the eq. Push is not great for mixing though, I don’t like knobs for mixing so I’m looking at the icon platform m+ or the other bigger one. But that as a combination should be perfect for producing, mixing and mastering all in one session like I do. I make EDM
Upgrading some things now. I think I'll get the presonus since I use studio one. I want to add a mixer too. Or a bigger interface. I need more mic inputs. If that presonus, the 16, and the 8, had mic pre's,, they'd crush it. I was leaning towards the 8 but that 16 is so nice.
Control Surface mixers are limited to the midi standard, or the Mackie or MCU driver. There’s only so much they can do, unfortunately. Maybe Midi 2.0 will include mixer extensions?
Def a good topic to do a video on. Good video. The Avid Dock and Avid S1's, which run on the Avid EUCON protocol supports the following common DAW's in the industry (Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Digital Performer, Cubase, Nuendo). It also supports some other applications and systems including, (Media Composer, Adobe Audition & Premiere, Harrrsion Mixbus, Samplitude, Trinnov D-Mon, Ovation and Pyramix). You can run the Avid Dock and S1 in a Mackie Control or HUE mode to support DAW's like (Ableton, REAPER and Reason) but functionality will be limited to what those protocols can provide. The EUCON protocol is a very powerful protocol. If you are running a DAW or System that it supports the features and flexibility is almost endless. In short any key command or shortcut that your DAW can provide you can create button with-in EUCON for it. If you want to try this on your supported DAW's go get the free download of the Avid Control App to put on your Apple or Android tablets and you are off an running.
Hey Marcus, I myself have the Faderport 16 and you you can manipulate the plugins and do some cool automation with that controller. I Agee just being able to have that tactile feeling is a huge plus. I'm thinking about the Protools one but its a little out of my budget for now. I agree PreSonus stuff is built like a Sherman tank I had mind now about 5 years and I must say has made my mixing a lot better just because being able to move some faders physically in just my opinion. keep up the great work thanks for all you do fro the recording community.
I love controllers 🎚🎚🎚🎚There’s nothing putting hands and fingers on faders and truly getting a grasp and feeling the music. Nothing against mouse users, it’s just what works best for me. Wouldn’t love to be part of the Beat Battle 🎹💪 Let me know.
I can say at this point that the sturdiness of the Icon products is stellar. The Quality control and customer attention...uh, not so much. After having over a week delay in arrival, which turned out to be ok because I was doing other things in the studio. The install process was fast. The operation of the software does appear to have some bugs but they aren't debilitating to the use of the controller. It seems the zoom and scroll functions are backward from what is silkscreened or printed on the transport. Also while the punch in and out works excellently; the location of the jog wheel and the transport buttons on the P1-M that I had to get due to space limitations on the Dangerfox Genesis desk is a bit cumbersome to use and I move cautiously when jumping around. The D4 meter bridges I was sent were defective in the lighting. I could and am using them until the replacements arrive along with my DT meter bridge, Now this might have been due to them sending me something quickly as this was just before the new year, perhaps they had an office party. But to think i was going to send the meter bridges back FIRST and wait for them to send the others was a lapse in judgement on their part. To me without any type of led readout on the fader controllers themselves renders them almost useless to me, They should have sent new ones and THEN I'd send back defective ones to them and NOT essentially stop my workflow. Sorry for the long reply.
Did you get a new camera man …if so is it a Sony don’t forget to put your camera and lens in the description as well lol….the visuals keep on getting better every time i see your videos man keep it up
From day one, I have NEVER gotten any external controller to work with Reason but with Cubase my controllers work just fine. Mixers with controllers are limited in the DAW cause you are expected to do all the processing in the mixer.

Still using my BCF and BCR controllers without fail. Reliable and robust. If you can find them in the wild for a good price, worth picking up.
I was looking into a physical controller for Logic Pro. I tripped over Logic Remote for iPad and had my mind blown. So good IMO that for my humble needs I'm no longer considering a physical controller.
Had my Faderport for years and I've never had an issue using PT on it. Never tried it with reasons but it does have a MCU option for mackie.

Single Faderport and a touchscreen for the multitouch console in Studio One. I also use a Stream Deck Pro with 32 LED buttons.
Great vid man! As for Reason controllers, the nektar panorama p1 is by far the best one to get.

You absolutely can expand the faderport and connect multiple fadorports together

My Mixer is Analog , My Midi conroller handles a lot , and i have an ipad running logic remote... so i just dont need a controller like that
My brother, when I do my mixes I turn all the monitors off turn the lights off and just mix my
music using my ears
What a beautiful
Way to mix music
Try it you’ll love it
I’m good with a mouse and HS8s
Damn IT thx for This information
Thats realy crazy and ITS furstrating me a lot
Because reason IS a very good daw because ITS very organised with the Rack and the Other sections
Quick to Handle
IT has a weak Stock Soundbank ( strings , Bass , and Orchester is very small If you Dont buy reason Studios Version ) so library but AS a musician with many Instrument and Sound Plugins reason IS a good DAW
I wanted to buy exactly This Kind of mixing concole for fast Volume paning and effect Level adjustments
Automation levels and such Things
But As my worries came true reason IS Not even creating a mixing console themselves nor programming the drivers into their DAW
Thats no good customers service in This way
I saw that you can assign Midi Control knobs If you use another midi Control in the prefences and then assign every single knob yourself , but AS you say Here you wont ever use the full Potential of the mixing Controller
Thats stupid
And slowly i think all These companies is working with Apple cubase and Just two Other Software engeneers of DAWs
Thats how you Limit people with Power
The Key word is Plug and Play
And drivers
If they Just create a Main driver to implenent These controls for single daws beeing detected If you Run IT
ITS about 20 years of DAWs now and Just These three , pro Tools , pro Logic , cubase have This Options
Just get a touch screen monitor
Yeah 🤔 not the same bossman!
I gotta have hands on Faders 🎚️
In reaper this is a nightmare
