17:05 idk about other DAWs, but Cubase has 2 plugin slots postfader and it's one really great use of this method that makes it feel so much more organic! If you place some kind of "analog* saturation plug-in (like decapitator or the free softube saturation knob, etc.) and set the levels so it clips at the same volume on every channel, it's like you're pushing into a real circuit with a real saturation point
Excellent video. I have 45 years experience as a live sound engineer with minimal recording studio experience. I have been recording in a home studio for over a year now and yes the connection between your ears and your fingertips is lost. I looked at this same control surface. I think it might be the one!
Thank you so much. With your experience that means a lot. I'm glad to be able to share this resource and wish you luck on your home studio journey. If you really put it into perspective it's a great controller for the money. Have fun!!

Exactly everybody ask that question what's better hardware or software but what people don't realize is hardware and software been together for a long time a control surface will make the biggest difference on how you mix great content thank you 👊💯
This is excellent. Back in the day, Mixdown was a PERFORMANCE based on intimate understanding of the song. The fader moves were planned and the first take executed in real time. The stereo master was then played back and studied. New/different fader moves were memorised.....and a second take captured to the stereo master machine. The result could be very exciting, dynamic mixes. This 'Art' has been lost. It is not easy to do. Mix Engineers tend to replace the PERFORMANCE with leveling compression. The result is unexciting mixes. Today; the use of a fader surface gives Mix Engineers the chance to practice REAL mixing without wasting reels of mastering tape. Great video, thank you. 😊😊😊
I've found this video really helpful in helping me decide on buying a control surface. Definitely yes! Thanks for the realistic and informative demo without any ego :)
You are a Sir! Explaining everything so nicely and with so much kindness. Exactly how I was feeling, now that I am planning to buy my first DAW controller of this kind. How did I live with a mouse, all these years...??? How are people doing themselves so much unfairness.
First time.. subscribed. Your explanations were clear and understandable. Too many of the other guys jump around and speak too fast and stumble through their words. It's great to see someone who can actually speak. Thanks. I'm thinking of these ICOM products. They seem pretty straight forward.
i just got my ICON QConproX and am having issues getting it setup to work with REAPER. I was starting to get really down and regretful thinking I had just wasted $1000(Australian). But thankfully your video really put things in perspective and reminded me of the main reasons why i wanted this controller in the first place. Thank you!!
Awesome! I'm so glad. I really noticed a trend of people thinking these devices are super devices that do everything. But once you harness the power of these things you realize how great they are. Enjoy it and thanks for sharing your experience!
Thank you for this great demonstrating and explaining video. Another great advantage of getting a DAW controller is that blind and visually impaired composers, including myself, can create an accessible workflow. Screenreaders and Braille displays of course help a lot in an accessible DAW but some sections in plugins are still a struggle without a controller where you don't need eyes for.
My pleasure! Wow, I never considered that for these. that's awesome these can help the visually impaired. Sadly, these might not be great for plugins regardless of sight or not but definitely for hands on the basic functions of mixing. Awesome!
@@LonelyRocker What do you mean by saying it doesn't work with plugins? When you program your macros well and have a controller which can control plugins too, everything should work pretty well. For VST plugins for example, everything can be controlled hands on with NI's Komplete Kontrol keyboards. Although I must say that I can't provide experience reports for every plugin, because I don't need a lot of mixing and mastering plugins in orchestral productions. Could be that my methods/workflow gets more difficult in other genres depending on the processes in post production. But all in all I'm sure that there's always a way when you look for it. Then everything can be made accessible.
Thank you so much! This is excellent perspective! I've always been able to walk up to any mixer and instinctively, and by using my ears, dial in a mix. I've been away from recording and engineering for a couple of decades but have put together a home production studio I intend to spend most of my time in when I retire (very soon!) Over the last few years I've had to get my head around vst's and virtual instruments but I'm definitely going to be adding a Daw controller to my set up now!
I use Cubase, and years ago I picked up a Houston controller for peanuts. Steinberg stopped support for it so I need to use midi cables rather than USB. The last couple of upgrades have threatened to stop running it altogether but the updates have got it working again. And guess what. I've never actually got around to using it as I have a CC121 and a Nob controller. But after watching this video, I'm going to have a real try at using it properly. So thank you. 😀
Love the way you explain things. Very thorough and your voice is super smooth. Very pleasant to listen to. you should do podcasts or Radio shows if you dont already!!! Happy NYE 2022.
Very well explained, I used QCon units and more recently the newer SSL UF8 fader and the EQ/comp controller unit, after several months I still default to trackball with controller’s secondarily in my mixing process. I find a two-screen Logic set up to not be ideal integration but I am slowly retraining myself way towards mixing whilst using controllers far more. You now have a new subscriber from London 🇬🇧 UK CHEERS ✊️😊
Thank you so much and I really appreciate the Sub! I'm a hybrid user. Some things are just better with a mouse. But for pure mixing, I love putting my hands on the faders. Depends on my mood too ;) Cheers from Canada!!
Yep, button hit and I’m along for the ride. Very well produced video and on-camera manner is appreciated. Clearly you spent some years getting good at all this before you hit UA-cam to tell everyone else how to do it. Cheers.
Thank you so much for your very kind words. Funny, being on camera was not something I ever wanted to do. My earliest videos here I was only in voiceover. And then I moved to on-screen but was quite stiff. I've worked on it and feel a lot more natural doing it today. Like everything else we do, it takes practise. Really glad you joined and look forward to hearing from you again soon.
@@LonelyRocker yes, you have settled into your new role very nicely. I’ve watched a few of your videos now and can def see the steady progress as you get more comfortable with it. As many have commented you have a very accessible presence and great teaching style so looks like you’ve found your niche. Since the lockdowns I’ve just returned to my music after many years away and am gradually building up a small studio and as I’m ‘old school’ engineering I wanted something tactile to work with in companion with the digital workstation so looking seriously at the surface controller you’ve featured. Thanks for such a thorough reveal of this surface - thinking it may be the right choice for me as well.
That's awesome. Enjoy your return. It's a ton of fun. That's the main reason I made the channel. I wanted to share my home studio journey and perhaps save viewers some money by sharing some of my mistakes AND positive experiences. Thanks for taking the time to watch some of my videos. I really appreciate your thoughts and you wish you luck and fun along your own home studio journey :)
Aren't they two different things? The ICON is a DAW controller and Studiolive is a hybrid Mixer and Audio Interface. I am new to this so please help me understand
Great motivational video. Makes me feel so much better about getting my QCon Pro G2. It does the basics with Reaper so happy to just be able to mix with the faders.
@@LonelyRocker I have really grown to love my icon. It brings so much more creativity to my music. Thinking of getting the extender but it would be tight for space. I suppose I could just get away with banking across but my tracks are growing! Does it connect to the main controller or just sit next to it ?
@@Ian-gw2vx That’s awesome. So glad you found your flow. Check my channel. I did a video on the extender. It connects directly to your computer via USB but is connected to the main controller in the DAW setup.
Right, cause there's a difference between engineering and mixing. Engineering is technical stuff like setting the parameters of the plugins and correcting problems but mixing is using the mixing board as an instrument, riding the faders, muting and soloing, going in and out with reverb an delays, etc,
So im looking on buying this particular control you are using. I can only get 1 right now which is the main one. Can I use that control for a session that has over 8 tracks and still mix with that one board?
Absolutely. Regardless if you have an extender or not you can bank left and right buy 8 tracks or by single tracks. I mention that in the video. Enjoy it 11. You'll have fun with it...
Your timing is spot on. I just set up a Pro X and XS in my studio today. I need to spend a little time with it but in the coming weeks I will be doing a comparison video. Stay tuned to the channel.
I haven’t personally but it comes up a lot in this discussion. I’ve heard more like the build quality of QCon but without my hands on it I can’t say for sure.
great video, just subscribed. this one looks super nice, im debating on this or a presonus faderport 16 - or maybe a behringer x-touch... ah they all look very nice. u made some great points. this classic style of mixing helps creativity, not just efficiency and thats important. cheers!
Thanks for coming aboard! And thanks for your thoughts. You MAY just be seeing a video with different DAW controllers in one video...coming soon...MAYBE! ;-)
I watch your videos before buying these gear. They are very informative. This is not your fault but I bought this product and after using three weeks my display started giving problems. Flickering and dead segments. Icon offered to open box repair it where I wanted a exchange for a another one. They refused. So I packed it and threw it in my storage room. That's my solution. Considering a Xtouch! Hope you'd do a video on that in future.
So sorry to hear you are having issues. I have had various Icon controllers here for over 3 years and have never had that issue. Where did you buy the controller? If you only had it for 3 weeks can't you return or exchange it? I'm surprised because Icon has always been very supportive as far as I have experienced. Maybe there is a communication issue?
@@LonelyRocker Thanks for your reply. Sadly no any communication error, Chris (apparently titled CEO) sent the distributor from whom I bought the unit saying that it has to be a open box repair. I am in Sri Lanka, so customer service in electronic items are not up to the standard. Distributor doesn't have anymore G2 units and manufacturer only suggest open box repair, and me who is the customer ultimately became cheated. I used lot of Apple products once similar incident happened and Apple Singapore sent me a replacement.
I guess it's a supply issue where you are. Not fair for you but if there is a supply chain issue then it becomes very expensive for them to repair. It's possible the store you bought it from is not an official retailer which could be part of the problem. Sorry you had trouble. Normally their gear works great. Unfortunately you got a problem unit...
@@LonelyRocker I got a reply email from Icon which was sent by the local supplier addressing my problem. The email said they are not exchanging with a new one and "REPAIRing" is their solution. You think it's fair solution? for a brand new product become faulty in 3 weeks? Anyhow thats the end of my trust and using any of that brand.
@@izziOnBass Honestly, you paid good money for your controller. "Repair" likely means replacing the component that's not working. It will be a new part. They are all PCBs. It is an easy fix. Let them do it so you can enjoy your controller. If you were in a country with full supply maybe support would be different. I think best to get it fixed and see for yourself...
I have discovered that the Icon Nano Platform Nano Air with Logic Pro 10.7.1 only allows access to one insert ONLY one from the controller and it works awesome … I just wish I could do the same with the rest of the inserts on the channel.
As I answered in your other comment. Some things are just easier with a mouse. The time and effort trying to figure it out may not pay dividends. Comes back to those "expectations"I discussed.
So it's possible that what I'm looking for doesn't exist, but I think it does. I'm looking for a mixer and DAW together, so I can live mix all my tracks for practice/jam sessions (just so things sound good for us) and I would think with USB it would be able to split that into however many tracks "virtually" for the software. But then when I'm going through tracks editing, I still have those same physical faders to adjust and fine tune things to my liking. Closest thing I think I've seen is the old PreSonus StudioLive 16.0.2. But then I don't have motorized faders and I'm sure the hardware itself is a bit dated at this point. Is there anything (semi-affordable) that can do both? I'm pretty new to your channel and even though this is an old video I enjoy what Ive been seeing. Keep up the good work!
Hey thanks so much! I think Presonus is still king of the hill when it comes to hybrid mixer/controllers. Tascam still makes some integrate mixers/recorders so you don’t need a computer. But most of the industry has gone DAW. You need to be careful with older devices because support will be limited in some cases. Icon’s original QCon had an optional audio interface that plugged right into the controller. That was an interesting concept but it was discontinued.
@@LonelyRocker Hey thanks for the like and response! So in your opinion, should I go for a used Qcon Pro with a Umix 1008 or should I go with something newer? I feel the Presonus units are out of my budget because you still have to buy the interface units too, right? Those looked to be as much or more than the controller itself. Or would you just recommend two devices, mixer and DAW/controller? The downside there being everything played would be recorded as a single track without setting up some sort of audio interface with pass thru. Or maybe I'm way overthinking things lol
I bought a Icon Platform M+ and got it today and I'm a Cubase user. I was so eager to get it and to get into the box and the simplicity of having a mixer at my fingertips. I've been doing "studio" for 15+ years and im working in a studio on my dayjob. (we dont have physical mixers) I was happy to see the faders going up and down at the start of loading a project. I couldnt scroll past channel nine though and i have no clue why, so i started adding audio channels and i managed to get the bank function to select the next step, never to the last though. Just keep adding audio channels and it will eventually give in. then they stopped working since i uploaded a user define preset (where all i changed was the mixer midi button to f Sharp (since i saw it on a tut vid). I switched it back to the default, and now nothing responded in a motorized function. Faders didn't correspond to what was set in cubase before i touched the knob on the hardware, then it would go back to the state in witch the fader was at the physical mixer- so if it was set at 0 it would go there, and if it was set to +6 db it would snap there. So don't you dare try anything. I'm sad to say that i will return it today. The prime reason being that i tried to search for specific #"I added a DELAY to complete the effect"
Don't give up so easy. It's hard to know where the issue is. Often it's not the controller but just a simple setting or setup tweak. I know a few Cubase users using Icon products and they are very happy. Check in with Icon support. There is aldo a QCon Pro group on Facebook. A rep from Icon is often there. Platform M is similar so you could probably get some answers there. But get it working and you will be happy! facebook.com/groups/1330257203667322/?multi_permalinks=4369609949732017¬if_id=1612290113808580¬if_t=group_activity&ref=notif
Great video man! I’m real close to pulling the trigger on this set up. How has your experience been with it, as far as reliability, support (if needed,) etc.
Thank you! I love them. No issues at all. Been rock solid for me. As long as you keep it in perspective like I mentioned in the video. Don’t know what DAW you’re using but there can be differences. Good luck!
Just got mine and came across your video on UA-cam. I have loads of questions but I’ll save those for after I’ve had a chance to truly tinker and figure it out. But I will ask this? How do you get the moving faders effect??
@@LonelyRocker ahhh thanks my friend! Also really enjoyed the video… I watched your others ones on this unit as well. Great music too btw. You got a new subscriber!
Great video man! I just ordered a Behringer Xtouch One to get started with. I plan on eventually getting the iCon system you have. I do a lot of film score work, and mouse mixing is killing me. I noticed you also have the Platform Nano to your left. What are you using it to do?
Thank you. Appreciate your thoughts. Enjoy it. You'll love getting your hands on the faders. That thing hiding in the back is actually a wireless Nano. I'm beta testing it for Icon. It's great to have because I can move around the studio and have easy access to transport controls and other functions.
I bought a Behringer Xtouch One, one fader DAW control surface to work with Logic Pro but it has a lot of trouble controlling the volume with aux tracks. It'll get confused and send the commands to more than one track. So something unintentionally gets turned up or down elsewhere in the mix. Does the QCon Pro G2 have any issues like this?
If a device is not configured right it can do things like that. In Mackie mode everything is a track. So tracks and busses. For more complex routing you may have issues but to be honest I never go that deep.
Hello. I wanna get a controller surface broad. I found a Mackie D8B and I want to know if it will work with Logic Pro. I also have the new Mac studio running the latest OS. I wanna know before I make the purchase. Please help
Generally yes. As long as the controller supports a protocol supported by your DAW like Mackie, HUI etc. Just check the support for each. But Presonus does work in other DAWs for sure.
I think its important to mention if you by a CS, make sure its uses at least MCU. As the HUI protocol (8bit) only allows 256 steps due to the midi standards... Where the MCU protocol allows 1024 steps, due to 10 bit. I'm sure any CS released today will do this, but always best to research , just in case. Its a big difference for precision.
I notice that when you were making the volume adjustments around 16:35 - 45, the DAW automation was off. Is it recording those adjustments, or just memorizing them on the playback on the Icon?
@@LonelyRocker great video. I'll probably have one of those by the fall. I just ordered the native instruments s49. So I'm tapped for the moment. I'm glad I found your page though! Can't wait for the next one!
Thank you. Yes. I’m very happy with G2. Solid unit. I like the profile and it’s just been working well for me. Check my channel. I did an extensive 2 part review on it.
Hey! Planning to buy Icon Platform M+... Saw the Behringer X-Touch One and Presonus Faderport V2 (only one fader) and the 8 Track version (but, man... such a huge board...). BUT, I like the small factor of the Icon Platform M+. Can some of you gentlemen help me decide? Are 1 fader mixers a “solution”? Any thoughts on it, please? I like the minimal factor, size and not so many buttons is a plus, to me. Help?
That’s a question many ask. As a controller, there is no value in having dedicated sends because you can whip around so quickly. So you get the benefit of tracks and sends for all faders. And BTW, that’s more a function of the DAW and not the controller. So you will be hard pressed to find dedicated sends in any universal controller.
I'm a newb. I've only attempted to mix drums w/Studio One. I'd love to have a DAW controller, as I can't stand stopping, going to the keyboard...Studiolive board, or Faderport for accustic drum mixing?
A Faderport is only one Fader so you may want to consider an 8 fader controller minimum. As for which one? If it meets your budget and supports your DAW, you're gold :)
All DAW controllers are just hardware devices that manipulate your software. No sound passes through them. The DAW and your interface are still managing sound.
How well does this work with 3rd party plugins? I have a lot of Waves, Izotope, Plugin Boutique and am curious how this c can possibly improve my work flow. Definitely want to get my hands on the right controller and I'm leaning this direction, however it's a lot of cash if it doesn't work right. No one has done a video on this yet that I can find.
As I said in the video, plugins are a stretch for ANY controller. They are all so widely different. I used a Waves plugin as an example in this video. Don't buy a controller if you are hoping for efficient plugin control. You will be frustrated 100% for sure. For mixing, panning, automation and transport controls...total satisfaction :)
If you like channel strips it would certainly be a contender. It has a groups feature where you can group instances into upto 16 different groups and monitor them in mix view...but bottom line it sounds good so you'd definitely get use out of it. Try the demo to see if it works for you...
@@LonelyRocker thank you for replying but I'm a bit confused by your answer. (edit I googled channel strips and got a few ideas on what you meant). I asked your opinion on how useful would a control surface be in a scenario where lots of tracks are used for very short duration sounds. Which demo would you be referring to? Thank you for taking your time to answer.
I’m so sorry! I released a new video on a channel strip plugin yesterday and your comment came in the middle of a bunch of comments on that. As for a controller, absolutely. No matter how many tracks you have you can bank through all of your tracks and have full control of 8 tracks at a time. You can automate easier and you can ride multiple faders at once. Could be a good upgrade for you.
Hi there, really good video! subscribed! Now for my personal question: I am between Presonus Faderport 8 and the Icon you use. Most of the time I use Pro Tools and Logic, which one of these is more suitable in your opinion? thanks bruh
Thank you so much! The Icon integrates very nicely with Logic. And both Logic and Pro Tools have integrated setup modes. The Faderport, which can work well for any DAW, is designed for its own Studio One DAW. So some features will not be as seamless. The G2 has expansion modules. You can combine units up to 32 faders. Great for future expansion. Choose wisely!
i do believe this very controller works well with Fl studio .. so far seems like might be the best one for that if anyone knows any other that are as good as or better any input would be great
If they have motorized faders i do. The faders follow the fader positions in your DAW so they always match. Your midi controller can’t do that if it doesn’t have motorized faders. That’s the biggest difference.
Hey, can you tell me how this compares to the Model 12 from Tascam? It seems like they're the same thing, but with the Tascam you can switch between DAW controller and 12 track audio interface with 10 line inputs.
The biggest difference is this is a pure controller. I lime my controller and interface separate. I can update each separately as I desire. As foe the controller I've never used the Tascam but these are sold units and look great on the desk. I have 4 different Icon controllers in my studio and all have been smooth...
@@LonelyRocker Do you think that it would be worth it for me to get a QCon Pro G2 and maybe a 6x6 Interface? I just have a 2i2 at the moment. I kind of feel like the Model 12 would be a good budget mixer. I'm not really interested in using it as a DAWless recording station. I strictly would like to use it for the interface and the control surface. So the internal recording features, and even the mixer itself is kind of a waste since I can equalize in the DAW. The QCon is $800 and then I'd have to buy a new Audio Interface. I could probably use the 2i2 a little longer. it's just getting old constantly switching between my DI box, instruments and microphones. Only 2 inputs sucks. The QCon seems more premium. The motorized faders is pretty bitchin. I'm assuming you purchased the QCon before the Model 12 came out? Maybe? IDK. It's been a week of research for me, and I've gone from $300 to $600. I was more than ready to set the Model 12 in stone, but you made a great point about having the Interface and the control surface separate for better future proofing/upgrade path. I think realistically going the QCon route would cost me about $1100 vs $600 for the Tascam. If you could answer one question, I guess I'd just ask, "Is it worth it?" Thank you!
@@LonelyRocker Fair. I guess in the grand scheme of things $100 isn't much more even if I have to spend a little more on a audio interface in the future. I can use the 2i2 a little longer while I try to find at least a 6x6 that has good preamps. I thought the G2 was $800, but I'm seeing it for $700 so that's even better. I can justify that. I just need to make sure I know more about the market because I've learned about so many things I didn't even know existed a week ago.
Hi, I have a big problem with my Icon QconPro first series. (recently purchased, naturally used) I use Logic Pro x ver. 10.7.2 with a MacBook air M1 (OS: Monterey 12.3.1) I can't get it to work well, it gives me many problems of all kinds, from the shaking of the faders to problems with the movement of the banks etc ... in practice it is not possible to use it. I tried everything, I updated the firmware, I adjusted the sensitivity of the faders (here I think I have solved it) but ... there is always something that makes him like going crazy. what can I do? I thought about buying the new G2 model, but I'm afraid that too may malfunction due to the new Monterey OS ... I think that's the problem ... or not? can you help me please? thank you!!
Sorry you are having issues. It's so hard for me to diagnose issues through comments. All I can say is I have 4 Icon Controllers connected to my new Mac Studio running Monterey 12.3 and they are ALL functioning normally without any firmware updates. Sometimes, doing a full reset by deleting the setups in Logic and resetting everything. Also, is your controller plugged directly into a USB port on your computer? Unless you use a proper Hub, these controllers work best plugged straight into the computer. Other than that, open a ticket with Icon. They are better qualified to help. Good luck!
There are diagnostic modes...when you power up the device while holding down each of the track selector buttons 1-8 it will enter different diagnostics mode....
Can you go deeper with automation and assign other stuff besides volume? Say, in latch mode, if I wanted to tweak different frequency bells at the same time in my EQ, is that possible using faders/knobs? Thanks for the vid!
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it. That's a good question. I assume you can write anything your DAW allows as it's all assignable. But I've never tried to automate more than one function at a time...that would require some testing. Wish I had an immediate answer for you...
Hi i have a very stupid question to ask of you.. i'm new to all this and just got into recording guitar in reaper is this some thing that would work for recording guitar.. thank you
There are no stupid questions when you are first getting started. This controls everything in your DAW. So recording your guitar is just one function. I actually find it easier to use this than a mouse when I have a guitar in my hand. The transport controls are right up front. On top of a great tool for mixing it really gives you hands on control for most recording and mixing functions...hope this helps!
Keep in mind this is not a mixer. It controls the DAW. No sound passes through it. But any moves you save in the DAW will be recalled by the DAW and the controller will follow. But you could ride faders on the controller and set the DAW to record automation in real time. Would be an interesting test...
great overall viewpoint i feel in time i will feel to need to be more hands on with the faders right now im use to and ok with the faders being on a screen having a bigger size screen helped and i tend to need my hands on a keyboard or an instrument but i feel as i get more into the mixing process id want something like this or a acutal mixer
Thank you. Of course we all have different needs. A real mixer in a home studio really doesn't make much sense these days unless you have. big audio interface. And really it would just be for tracking, you couldn't mix with it. Though if the console had really nice preamps you could sum your mixes on the way out...
@@LonelyRocker most of us wont be making anything that would need this application .. id prob jus hire a big studio for a few hours when i would need to get a mix master done but one day would be fun to have a mixer sat in front of me ijust know from personal ill buy it and let it collect dust

May I ask an opinion on the little brother, the Icon Platform M+?

First time.. subscribed. Your explanations were clear and understandable. Too many of the other guys jump around and speak too fast and stumble through their words. It's great to see someone who can actually speak. Thanks. I'm thinking of these ICOM products. They seem pretty straight forward.
Welcome aboard!! Glad you are here to share my journey. Icon makes some great gear. I'm having lots of fun with mine....
i just got my ICON QConproX and am having issues getting it setup to work with REAPER.

Glad ypu enjoyed the video! Appreciate your feedback. Cheers!
This us a godsend for using vcs's at final mix. Great video cheers.
Great to hear! Glad you found this helpful!
Thanks for telling me i bought this and waiting for it to arrive cant wait
Enjoy it!!
Ok I just saw this video for the first time popped up on a recommended watch list watched it in the first minute I subscribed
Awesome. Thank you so much. Thrilled to have you here :-)
Thank you so much!

Very well explained, I used QCon units and more recently the newer SSL UF8 fader and the EQ/comp controller unit, after several months I still default to trackball with controller’s secondarily in my mixing process. @@LonelyRocker thanks, yes. It cost me a fortune but its been well worth it, especially as I use the mixer live with my band as well.
How can you put a price on pure joy! 😂😂
Lonely Rocker exactly right, lol!
Glad you enjoyed the video and happy to share some encouragement. Enjoy it!!
Nice job! Thanks for posting, from a newbie! Subscribed. 👍😎
Awesome. Thnx so much! And welcome aboard 😀
Right, cause there's a difference between engineering and mixing. Engineering is technical stuff like setting the parameters of the plugins and correcting problems but mixing is using the mixing board as an instrument, riding the faders, muting and soloing, going in and out with reverb an delays, etc,
That’s true. Lines have been blurred as more and more goes digital but there is no substitution for the knowledge of a true engineer.
Enjoy it
11. You'll have fun with it...
very nice video and well explained🤝
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
Have you tried the QCon Pro X and what are the main differences between that and the G2?

@@LonelyRocker have you tried the Behringer X-Touch? If so how do they compare to the QCon?
I haven’t personally but it comes up a lot in this discussion. I’ve heard more like the build quality of QCon but without my hands on it I can’t say for sure.

Thanks for coming aboard! And thanks for your thoughts. You MAY just be seeing a video with different DAW controllers in one video...coming soon...MAYBE! ;-)
Great, but how does your fancy chair work? Do you sit well in it?
😂It served its function well but has since been replaced. So has this studio. Everything is new now 😂
I watch your videos before buying these gear.
Wow,love your channel...Subscribed!!!!

Another brilliant video 👏👏 Nicely explained and demonstrated👍 Natural ability at teaching 👊 Thank you🙏

Hey! Planning to buy Icon Platform M+...
Any thoughts on it, please?
I like the minimal factor, size and not so many buttons is a plus, to me.
Help?
The prime reason being that i tried to search for specific
#"I added a DELAY to complete the effect"
Don't give up so easy. It's hard to know where the issue is. Often it's not the controller but just a simple setting or setup tweak. I know a few Cubase users using Icon products and they are very happy. Check in with Icon support. There is aldo a QCon Pro group on Facebook. A rep from Icon is often there. Platform M is similar so you could probably get some answers there. But get it working and you will be happy! facebook.com/groups/1330257203667322/?multi_permalinks=4369609949732017¬if_id=1612290113808580¬if_t=group_activity&ref=notif

Thnx my friend. They are similar but the Pro X has a few more features. Most notably the big meter bridge and the 2 scribble strip displays...
The only thing I saw was Qcon x have meters on every track.
@@laylowmajor4363 So does the G2. They are on the unit beside the faders. With the Pro X you get the meter bridge and they are easier to see.

@@LonelyRocker Merry Christmas to you and your family also.

The button-overlays on the controller shabbily curling up over time is totes realness.
That is one thing I'd like to see improved but a very small criticism for what overall is great value for the money.
Great content! Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Hello. I wanna get a controller surface broad. I found a Mackie D8B and I want to know if it will work with Logic Pro. I also have the new Mac studio running the latest OS. I wanna know before I make the purchase. Please help

Great video! I'm almost ready to hit the buy button. Has the G2 been reliable for the period of time that you have used it for?

Sir, can we use any controller to any DAW. For example, can we use presonus controller in pro tools
Generally yes. As long as the controller supports a protocol supported by your DAW like Mackie, HUI etc. Just check the support for each. But Presonus does work in other DAWs for sure.
great video
Thanks!
Can you show how to control plugins with the g2?
I think you might be seeing videos like that published soon on Icon's channel.
It depends on the controller. Icon’s is universal so it will support HUI and Mackie. But how you connect is specific to what your DAW Provides....
I notice that when you were making the volume adjustments around 16:35 - 45, the DAW automation was off. Is it recording those adjustments, or just memorizing them on the playback on the Icon?
16:25
Basically, is the controller going to track your fader movements, or were you not recording those. And can you?
etc...
Nevermind, you answered the following minute!! Awesome video!! Thank you!
Ha! Thnx for the assist and answering your own question ;)

I'm between the Beheringer X-touch and the Icon Qcon Pro G2 for Pro Tools ... Are you happy with the Icon? Good video!
Thank you.
Help?
Can you control sends faders with this one? Or every send must be created as a track?
@@LonelyRocker Yes, that's what I had in mind. The Faderport 8 can control Studio One in midi, and audio?
All DAW controllers are just hardware devices that manipulate your software. No sound passes through them. The DAW and your interface are still managing sound.
Is that bank option, you speak of, available in all DAW controllers?
I have no way to say ALL controllers have this feature...but most tat conform to the same style as the Icons do....

What about sound design projects with hundred of tracks and 10 tracks for a 1 second sound effect? How useful would it be?
Does this communicate with your vsts and your third party vsts though😮
Yes, it controls plugins...but I've never found this the best way to control them...basic plugs maybe....
@@LonelyRocker oooooh thanks I thought about buying this instead a nektar p1/ or CS thanks 👍
@@LonelyRocker well that's a lot of criterias to look at! thank you for your answer.. I will choose wisely then 😊

This controller is hard to beat for the money.
Another great vid! Good work!
Let me know if you buy one 😂😂😂
I new to the whole daw thing. Do you think daw controllers are a better option than the faders on my midi keyboard controller?
If you could answer one question, I guess I'd just ask, "Is it worth it?"
Thank you!
@@everennui1 It all depends on your needs and budget. Hard for me to say. Can't go wrong if that's within your means...
(recently purchased, naturally used)
I use Logic Pro x ver. 10.7.2 with a MacBook air M1 (OS: Monterey 12.3.1)
I can't get it to work well, it gives me many problems of all kinds, from the shaking of the faders to problems with the movement of the banks etc ...
in practice it is not possible to use it.
Good luck!
Thank you !!!!
How did you get the faders to move like that at 1:27 , I have the same controller
I'm really itching to get one now, and at leas one extension.
Go for it!!!
Can you récord a live set while saving all the tracks in the daw with all the mute part you selected during the session?
Keep in mind this is not a mixer. It controls the DAW. No sound passes through it. But any moves you save in the DAW will be recalled by the DAW and the controller will follow. But you could ride faders on the controller and set the DAW to record automation in real time. Would be an interesting test...
You get a like simply for having Alex, Neil and Geddy sitting on the desk watching over you :-)
Ha. That’s awesome. They are the biggest inspiration for everything I do. Glad you noticed 🤘🏽😄
@@LonelyRocker They wrote the sound track to my life... and great video by the way, thanks! You, in turn, have inspired me to get a Qcon :-)
Haha...then I did my job. Glad to have a fellow Rush faithful around here. Happy to hear from you anytime :)
great overall viewpoint i feel in time i will feel to need to be more hands on with the faders right now im use to and ok with the faders being on a screen having a bigger size screen helped and i tend to need my hands on a keyboard or an instrument but i feel as i get more into the mixing process id want something like this or a acutal mixer
Looks is half the sound 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wonder what is the difference between Icon QCon Pro X and Icon QCon Pro G2 ?
I talk about that in a more recent video on my channel.
