- I've wanted to test this one out for a long time, as it's the widest angle rectilinear camera lens available for digital SLR cameras, and, being from Samyang's XP lens, promises much.

I miss the "howdy everyone"
I do too.
Surprisingly he did not say it today 😒
@@BeZRules He hasn't been saying it for that past month or more...
My day is ruined.
mee too. it is a trademark and should not be omitted. PERIOD!!! pls bring it back!
And the most soothing voice person is back 🖤🖤
Been waiting for this review for so long, I’m incredibly excited.
As is usual, your choice of scenes to display the capabilities of this lens is impeccable. Thanks again.....
It's really weird seeing photos from my hometown as the test images. It's crazy to think that I could bump into my favourite lens reviewer whilst walking about town haha.
That's awesome, you live in a beautiful area!
I would love to see the rest of the ef-m lenses tested on the m6 mkii. Especially the 32mm f1.4 and the 11-22mm. And throw in the 22mm f2 as well!
Thanks Chris!!!
Great review Chris! Great lens!
I have a Samyang 7.5mm f/3.5 for MFT (15mm), which I absolutely love. Samyang makes some amazing wide lenses.
Excellent Chris, keep up the good work, very much appreciated :-)
Thank You for this review Chris, been waiting some time for this. Hope that the Samyang 35mm XP will come soon also :)
Hopefully!
Brilliant and inspiring review! If only I had the 1000 bucks
I fucking love you man, I’ve gotten the best lenses watching your reviews and I can’t thank you enough
Me, it’s hey.
This was a really cool review, the lens looks terrific. I’m particularly impressed at the (relatively) low vignetting for a lens this wide. I have a Laowa 9mm f/5.6 which I use on Nikon mirrorless, and it probably has about 4 stops of light loss in the corners at f/5.6 with only marginal improvement as you stop down. It is 10% wider, admittedly, but it’s also exclusively for mirrorless, and partially because of how extreme the vignette is, the blue color cast in the corners can be quite distracting. I think the Samyang performed really well, you got very usable sharpness by f/5.6 and the vignette seemed fairly minor at f/8. One day I may get tired of color correcting corners and upgrade to the Samyang.
Thank you for your reviews as always, and I am glad I learned about Samyang and Rokinon lenses from you. The 85mm f/1.2 XP is stunning.
"Gabingly wide" my new favourite way to descripe wide angle lenses :D
Gaping-ly
Gaping = (of a hole) wide open ; be or become wide open ; broad, cavernous.
regards.
I do love my Irix 11mm for its rare use cases (sadly it doesn't make sense to use THAT wide angles as often as I would like), so I can totally relate to using this lens. :-)
I made a list of what I think in comparison, both from your reviews and my own experience, hoping this might help someone in their decision:
Points for the Irix 11mm:
- less than half the price
- has a hyperfocal scale
- has a (though not exactly comfortable to handle) locking mechanism for the focus ring, which is a GREAT feature in everyday use
- has weathersealing (the cheaper "Firefly" version only has a gasket at the mount, but the more expensive "Blackstone" version is completely sealed)
- can use gel filters behind the rear lens (though I never tried that!)
- less vignetting wide open, from what I can tell, but no real difference when stopped down, so that might be due to F4 and it being "just" 11mm...
Points for the Samyang 10mm:
- wider angle (duh!)
- slightly wider max aperture (although the difference should be near zero in practice)
- slightly sharper corners, especially at wide apertures (center is also sharper, but for "normal" resolutions around 24MP the Irix is perfectly fine already)
- MUCH lower level of chromatic aberations (the far corners of the Irix wide open are slightly more than what the Nikon raw converter corrects at "100%" setting!!!)
- slightly lower level of distortion, despite the slightly more extreme angle
No points for either one:
- the not so secure clip-on lens hood... when you mentioned that, I actually had to grin, because it's just so familiar! ;-)
skvělý objektiv
Hi, its Me
vinza pramana putra what’s up? 😀
vinza pramana putra It's
Everyone: Howdy
BUYERS: Please note, that this cameras hyperfocal point (where everything should be in focus) is NOT at the end of its focus ring - it's slightly before. The hyperfocal point IS marked on the barrel, so you will have to set it there to get the sharpest shots out of this lens. I have it. Its heavy, extremely wide, and (once youve got that hyperfocal point set) sharper than I expected. Fun to play with.
Perfect for RF cameras with their RF-EF filter adapter!
Amazing. Thx as alway for making good review. :) And Samyang is the fantastic lens. :)
Another test I'd like you to do if at all possible for wide angle and normal lenses is how sunstars look. I think it's much more important for a lens like this than bokeh, personally (and I'm a sucker for the 10 straight-bladed aperture on Voigtländer lenses so maybe other manufacturers will start imitating them, hopefully).
I try to remember to do that normally
The Laowa ( venus optics ) 12mm f/2.8 zero D is better in my opinion, it's a really prenium lens, very sharp even at f/2.8, it has almost no distortion, has better bokeh, plus it's a fully manual lens, ( with an aperture ring ), which on Nikon can also be use with film cameras, so it's great.
Oh awesome.
Hi, would you please review the cheap 7 artisan 7.5 mm f2. 8 for Efm thanks
Cardiff is great. Went to those same places as you.
unfortunately the lens aperture control does not work with my new R5C and the original canon eos r to ef adapter. which adapter did you use to shoot with the R5C?
Hi Chris, what adapter did you use for this to the sony a7? also which adapter do you recommend?
I finally bought this lens. Its corner performance is far better on my old D750 than any of my Sony cameras. Sony sensor stack does not work well with conventional DSLR lenses. If you put this lens on your newly acquired Canon or Nikon camera, you would see far better corner performance wide open. Thanks!
Hey! :) I am always looking for Lenses with nice Flares, it would be awesome if you could make a comparison. Or do you have a recommendation ?
The forthcoming full frame rectilinear Laowa 9mm f/3.5 for mirrorless cameras and M mount is a more interesting choice.
The difference between 10mm and 9mm seems insignificant but a 9mm has 127° horizontal angle of view and the 10mm 122° The difference is noticeable.
Thank you for the review. I have been waiting for the Nikon F version, I don't think Samyang released it.
23th of January 2020 not yet on there site for F mount
the sharpness is better than voigtlander at f5.6?
Interesting but I feel that as a brand Sanyang has failed to make much impact following on from some of its earlier generally cheaper but highly regarded lenses such as the 12 f 2. 😎😎😎
Can wait to ask why the image isn't sharp at f16 if Christopher will ever not mention "due to the effect of diffraction".
Well, I gotta be fair, and make sure people know why that is :-)
Hey Chris, really love your videos. Do you think you'll be doing any weird lens reviews again?
Got one coming soon, actually
My favorite lens ever.. you don’t even need another lens if you have a 50mp sensor
Although the front section of glass recently fell out on the sidewalk for no apparent reason whatsoever
Hi Christopher. Can you make a review of the Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2? Love your reviews!!
Maybe one day
Im sold to Laowa Zero D lenses.
Sharper than Laowa 9mm 5.6 RL.
Samyang for the win
This lens for $1,000
or Canon 11-24 F/4 (also a rectilinear lens) for $3,000? 🤔
No brainer... Samyang everyday.
I mean... They're very different lenses. This one is a fixed focal length, manual focus lens, while the Canon is a zoom, giving you more versatility, with autofocus.
@@joshz6975 autofocus is redundant on such a wide angle, but I get your point
What about Yongnuo AF 14mm f2.8 review? 🙄 Thanks
Great interior images with such wide lens? Did you use any artificial light ?
?
Thank you so much for this beautiful review. I heard you say it’s about 15mm equivalent on apsc. Does that mean my sigma 16mm f1.4 would give me something similar on a7iii, please?
It'll be 16mm but with huge vignetting that you'd have to crop out. So your final image would be closer to 24mm (or a little wider)
Christopher Frost Photography Oh Thank you so very much. One more question, please. I have a6300 and a7iii, sigma 16mm and sony 24mm GM. If I want a wider lens, what’s the most affordable but good one for me please? Thank you so much
@@JustDavidMinistries For the full-frame camera, I like the Samyang 18mm f/2.8
Christopher Frost Photography Oh okay I appreciate you greatly, Christopher
i LOVE samyangs XP lenses but i am still looking for infos what adapters work well to use them on a sony a7rIII
Whatever adapter that controls aperture....
@ All adapters I've tried were OK, incl. the Sigma MC11, Metabones units and then some cheap ones. In other words get whatever - likely to work and if not just get another one. Also tried the Sigma MC21 on a Panasonic S1 body. YMMV of course.
@@elkwewwef that is good news! Thanks!
Wow that's impressively sharp. Any chance of getting your hands on the XP 35mm? :).
Hopefully soon
@@christopherfrost :)
nice review. Thanks ! But pal,is it worthy to sell Sigma 12-24 ART and buy this Samyang when i shoot 90% of real estate? Thank you
You should probably stick with the Sigma lens for its flexibility
I shoot real estate.
I had the Tamron 15-30 when I started, then I bought the Sigma 12-24, then I bought the Irix 11mm,then I bought a Sony camera and I had the Laowa 12mm+Shift adapter, then I bought the Laowa 10-18...all those lenses worked great...
Until I bought my Canon 17mm TS-E and sold everything else.
📝
Dat front element tho
Hi Christopher. I think you make terrific reviews. I have a set of Canon RF trinity lenses and an 85mm 1.2 DS that I’m willing to loan to you if you are interested in testing them. Would love to see your take on them.
Thanks - maybe one day.
Quick random question: do you do your voiceover first then you add the B roll and add the footage???
i'm guessing he does a bunch of test shot, write a rough script, then do specific testing according to script, then polish a final script and voiceover his final test result. that's how i do it usually
I do all my testing and get all my footage, and when everything's all together I can write the script, and edit it all together
Can you test ttartisan 11mm plz?
Maybe one day
You already tested Irix 11 mm. Equally good?
Take a look at the review. I think this Samyang lens is sharper but then again it is in a slightly different price league
Samyang lenses are excellent....I have the 8mm f3.5 full-frame fisheye, the 10mm f2.8 wide angle and the 135mm f2.0 telephoto and they're all "razor sharp" :-)
Cardiff
It is me. ... 🤣👍
But who was first? 🤷🏼♂️
Hello
Oh hi hows going
Howdy everyone???? :(
voitlander 10mm can be as sharp as this one at f8
It's for short Leica M and Sony FE mounts... the 10mm XP is the widest non-fisheye FF lens for SLR flange distance mounts like Canon EOS & Nikon FX.
Shame these lenses are only usable like 10 times a year in our climate. cloudy haze ruins wide images.
Hello hand.
Vlastním objektiv od konce roku 2019 a pro některé scenérie je nezastupitelný.
Way to expensive
don't like Samyang
