I hope you enjoyed traveling on your own! I personally love it, although it can feel a little lonely at night. On the other hand, not having to compromise, going at your own pace and having the mental space to absorb the experience are wins for me. I love traveling with people, too, just a different experience. Oh, and I feel like it's a confidence booster, knowing that you're capable enough to navigate traveling entirely on your own. Can't wait to hear a debrief!
sweetspicypepper I love travelling by myself too (and I have in western countries), but I struggle with security. I would love to travel to certain places in the world (South America, Africa, Mexico, but I’m very fearful. I envy my friends who have partners/friends to travel with just for the added sense of security.
Japan is a good place to go for solo travelers. It's very safe, people don't look down on you or think it's bad when you are by yourself and a lot of places cater and accommodate single people.
@@jayheh I've been to Mexico (particularly Baja) a couple times, not on my own. If you go to a smaller town on the coast like Campo Lopez, it feels very safe. The locals themselves are great, I've never had anything weird happen--it's just that the police are corrupt. The first time I went there, in Tecate, we got accused by the cops of running a stop sign that didn't exist and they tried to drag us down to the police station. Then they tried to get us to pay them off. It's definitely worth visiting--the Baja coast is so beautiful and the inland region of the peninsula with the wineries is really fun--but I would feel iffy being there by myself because of the cops, especially in the bigger cities. And places that are known for having tourists, like Cabo, my friends who've been down there say that it can be dicey. It's a lot safer in the smaller towns.
Amber Nelson I’d love to visit smaller towns in Mexico, but it’s the “getting” there part (on my own) that makes me anxious - traveling from point A to point B solo that seems dicey to me - especially as a young woman. An Ottawa (Canada) woman was attacked in her hotel room this past November and I personally know a lawyer too who was traveling there for business who got mugged and beat up pretty badly. :( Also, you’re not the first one who’s mentioned corrupt cops. I also don’t speak/understand spanish fluently which would make me nervous if something were to happen. It’s just a lot of security factors that are holding me back from traveling on my own to Mexico and other parts of the world like South America. Japan is definitely on my list though and knowing the country’s reputation I would feel completely safe traveling there solo.
re watching your old japan vlogs like a cozy december night in with rain outside kinda thing. just like how other people put xmas movies on this time of year to feel cozy, i've decided these vlogs do the exact same for me - and it's not the first time i do this. never felt more cozy and wonderful than now though since we can't go anywhere because of covid. xx
Lizzy… it might be startling to see a comment on a vid you posted years ago, but whenever I need a comfort, I turn on your Japan travel vlogs. I probably do this once a year when I get the bug to travel there 🤍
Im so glad that there will be 2 more parts!! I was getting quite sad when the video was ending haha So much fun watching these. I just love that they are so chill nothing too fancy so i felt like i was traveling around tokyo with you!! ✌🏻
This may be my favourite video of yours ever! Love seeing how you experienced Japan - have never been myself but it’s top of my bucket list, so these vlogs are so lovely to watch. Found the camera chat really interesting - I want to get into film photography one day and it’s largely inspired by how much I love your work 💫 also that exhibition looked incredible. Can’t wait for the rest 💕
Still only 4 minutes in, but I already enjoy the vlog so so much! And yes, what I remember from Japan is the quietness, and I absolutely loved it!! Ahh I miss Japan so much
I know they are children’s movies, but Ghibli films are absolutely beautiful. You should check them out. I’ve loved them since I was little. It would amazing to watch them while in Japan🥰
Wonderful japan vlog! and thank you for being quiet and respectful while walking on the streets. It's normal for a japanese residential neighbourhood to be that quiet. It's a sign of respect to your neighbours and to other people. Japanese don't say it openly but they don't like loud foreign tourist, also being photographed without asking first. Thoughfulness in Japan goes a long way.
Lizzy facing the tempting store front w/fashionable trench coat & pottery is me anytime I pass a book store. "I don't need it" *circles around the window* lol
So lovely, Lizzy - I so enjoyed this vlog! You're such a refreshing creator on UA-cam - I love how chill and real your trip has been so far. Can't wait for the other parts!
You are really taking me back to my time spent in Japan! I really miss it! Thank you so much. I can’t wait to see your other vlogs on your time in Japan!! Enjoy, be safe and have fun!!!
I feel so proud of you for doing this. Is it weird that I feel proud? Anywho, I feel proud of how you owned this experience. Thank you for sharing it with us!
LOVING your Japan videos Lizzy! Especially when you talk about your new camera. Thank you so much for documenting and sharing your travels! I fully appreciate and understand how much work, thought and time is involved in creating them...they’re incredible!!! xx
I started backpacking alone outside Europe when I was 18. This was way before the smartphone, I didn’t even bring a mobile phone. Can’t imagine how I even went places. But I did always have maps.
beautiful vlog! so happy to see you go to Japan and see that sparkle in your eye! I find it strange that as I get older (almost 30, lol) I also feel a need to see Japan while it was never on my list when I was very young..looking forward to the next vlogs, this was SO enjoyable, Lizzy! thank you! xx
I watched this before bed last night and it was such a nice way to unwind. My plan is to do the same with your next 2 Japan vlogs 😍 the way you captured this trip is so refreshing!
There are some videos of yours that I click on immediately and devour, heedless of circumstance. And then there are these ones that I see in my notifications, squeal and then "save" for a time when I can sit back, without distraction, preferably in the mid-arvo shlump when the weather is starting to get a bit gloomy, like I need to prime myself for the ~super relatable profundity~ that I know you will deliver.
I would actually love hearing you talk about your equipment. I was really hoping you'd tell us more about your new film camera in the vlog and I'm so glad you did!!
Lizzyyy! This was so so good to watch! I grew up between Japan and England, and you’ve really made me miss Japan so much. You’re doing great on your solo travel, super proud! This was honestly so inspiring to just watch and give me some gusto in taking a step out of my comfort zone and to enjoy some time alone. Can’t wait to see the other videos :)
Have literally not even watched your Japan videos yet, but I love Japan (esp Hakone!!) so much and I'm really excited to watch the vlogs with your usual atmospheric, beautiful style!!
What an incredible experience. So happy you’re sharing it with us. I’ve traveled alone in my own country and love it but never beyond. Looking forward to Part #2
Love this. I love Japan - have been twice and all I think about is going back for a third visit. Haha @ "is this the crossing" - yes! but its more mental at nighttime.
Thank you for sharing this - so glad you enjoyed Japan and the Muji in Ginza! It brought back memories for me when I was exploring Tokyo solo with my camera.
At golden gai there is a photography bar with just 8 seats! Pretty awesome. The name is Kodoji Bar. There is another one that I don’t remember the name where Daidō Moriyama is always there chilling!
, So good to see your Japan vlog. I was there myself in 2017, in some of the places you've been and you've brought back so many lovely memories. You should definitely try out the oil cleanser from Muji, I'm on its last leg and regret it already (Muji is not available in Romania...yet). I'm not much of a commentor but I watch your videos regularly.
Okay I loved this!! and I need to go to Japan 😭👌🏼 can’t wait to watch the others! ps hope you got the MUJI pumps in the other store 🤞🏻 I’m originally from near Leeds and was obsessed with the MUJI on Briggate so I’m here for your utter adoration of it too!
Its interesting to watch you navigate traveling on your own. I mostly travel on my own, but I pick more social hotels and hostels to stay. I’m very interested in your camera selection.
Ahh, so lovely. Did you have any trouble communicating with people?? I'm not aware of you speaking much (if any!) Japanese! Looking forward to the next videos...and to seeing the pictures from your Mamiya!

Loved this! I love it when you combine arty editing with vlogging and the intro was just beautiful! Looks like an amazing time.
Haven't clicked on a vlog any faster, going to Japan in a month, also on my own! This is getting me so excited.
Lizzy going back and forth about bringing the book is really my everyday struggle.
Such a lovely video especially since you posted as soon as you came home. We appreciate it so so much
I like how quiet and chill these vlogs are.
Omg Lizzy, that “do I take the book with me?” moment! I can relate 100000%

Revisiting. Love these vlogs. When life goes back to normal I think I’ll be prioritizing a solo trip to Japan!

Landhaus Idyll thoughtfulness whenever travelling any foreign lands is always the best thing to practice...respect goes a long way

"Do I take the book? uh, it's just so big!" This is the exact reason why I bought a Kindle. I mostly use it when I travel and I love it so much.
Same. I've not regretted the change.
I feel so proud of you for doing this. Is it weird that I feel proud? Anywho, I feel proud of how you owned this experience. Thank you for sharing it with us!
