Came from a video of people that flew business class, stayed in expensive hotels, ate expensive food and used taxis to get everywhere, to this video and since I'm trying to pull off 3 1/2 weeks in £2000, this is really appreciated😂

How did you do? This is incredibly doable for 1 person if your flights and hotels have been paid for, you don’t have any big events and you have time to travel slow meaning cheaper travel instead of bullet trains! I spent 1000 in 12 days. But if I miss the clothes shopping it was around 500 quid. So it can be done!

It’s refreshing seeing a channel with genuine content that a regular person can relate to. Don’t get me wrong it’s cool seeing all these luxury videos but I can’t relate to it at all. This I can actually relate to and it has many tips for when I take my trip to Japan in the future. Thank you and keep up the great content.

Your budget-friendly adventure through Kyoto and Osaka is a testament to the idea that incredible experiences don't always require a hefty price tag. It resonates with the teachings of Lisa Haisha, reminding me of the value found in simplicity and meaningful moments. Just as Lisa encourages us to embrace the beauty in every journey, your travel vlog sparks a sense of wanderlust and a desire to create unforgettable memories. Both you and Lisa are my compasses, guiding me toward a life filled with inspiration and greatness!

38:44 I actually LOVE this concept and it really makes sense to make travel videos in this format. There are videos I've seen of travelers who will share their experience, while spending WAYYYY too much money (i.e., $250 a night hotel for 1 person) and not giving a "true" travel experience that the general public can experience.

I am so glad I found you both! I have followed Kara and Nate for years and they have moved into the luxury market and the adrenaline junkie market. I’m a regular person with regular disposable income. You have been wonderful giving us ideas and commentary on places that I might have ruled out, but can possibly consider. I’m a fan! Thank you and please keep up your “budget” format. We all know we will go over occasionally, but it’s good to have a plan.

Osaka/Kansai region is much cheaper than Tokyo. it’s got a lot more culture than Tokyo, n people r more friendly. You can find bento lunches in supermarket for less than 500 yen. So $50 per day per person goes a long way, esp right now $ is so high. I can’t wait to go back.

Ignore the green pineapple, I'm actually a travel blogger, have been 12 years. 7 years full-time. We used to try to stay around $50 per day, for a family of 4! $100/day is comfortable in most countries for long-term travel. Then we started earning a lot with the website and started splurging on Bhutan / Singapore, all the big $ places. But I like budget, budget is fun. It's a challenge. We're planning Japan now, leaving in just a few days and we are spending a mint! When you only have 10 days to see as much as you can it really adds up . I just booked Universal Osaka and a big $ hotel at Universal for 2 nights. Your videos are really helpful for food costs. It's all very deep fried though, not what I'd want to eat. But I'm sure my son will love it. I'm really impressed with how cheap the trains are, hotels are really quite reasonable too. We're going to Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and probably Hiroshima, staying in each. We only take carry on so I don't mind moving hotels. Great job!

I love that Japan does have so much delicious budget priced foods! It’s most of my travelling and living experiences there. Agree, that you notice the change in numbers of people growing over time! In the early 90’s we caught the overnight Friday bus from Tokyo but did splurge on a beautiful ryokan stay by the Philosophers path (not that we knew it was called that at that time). Then the Sunday evening bullet train back. Only 2 full days in Kyoto, but it worked for us at that time living there on a budget. July 2014 we returned as a family and stayed for 2 nights in Kyoto and 2 nights in Nara. A lot busier but still loved it. Then January 2020 just my daughter and I were there but really slowed the pace. After arriving in Arashiyama from Amanohashidate we stayed one night and I loved the quiet afternoon once everyone left. Then arrived mid morning in Nara for 2 nights and left our bags with our budget hotel reception, and again the explored the park in the later part of the afternoon once crowd numbers went down. For me that’s definitely the plus side of staying nearby. From there we slowed it even more by staying in Kyoto for 5 nights (3 weeks in Japan in total) and I agree, it really made for a wonderful non rushed holiday. But it wasn’t my first time, so I get the need for less time in places to see and travel more if it’s going to be a one off time. Looking forward to where in Japan you headed to next.

Hi Lisa and Josh! Loved this video and love your channel! You two are fun to watch and your commentaries/insights are much appreciated. Your video brought back so many memories of my time in Kyoto and Osaka, I enjoyed living vicariously through you. The Nara trip was the most amusing, RIP Lisa's jacket! Thanks for sharing all the places you went to (some were new to me) and please do more of the longer format!

You guys are awesome ! That's the way to live the best experience. People often say Japan is expensive but you are proving that it is not the case. It feels even better to live like locals, seems like you experience true Japan. Cheers from France.

Just booked a trip to japan in november, couldn't be more excited!! Quick question, in your $100 a day budget do you also include the hotel/hostal/sleeping arrangements? In my budget i was calculatin like $70 a day (without including sleeping, only for the day to day) what do you think?

when my hubby and I lived in Sweden, i sang in a choir. When we went on choir retreat, they asked me after dinner if I wanted to join everyone in the Sauna! I said, I don't have a bathing suit! They assured me I didn't need one and that I should just be brave and come. This was men and women whom I only knew previously from choir practice! I was brave and you can imagine how this went. I had a blast once I got over the shock!
