SWEET! Just picked one of these RC immersion powerplay units up and got it to work. Hadn't used my SD slots in a while so they needed a cleaning, at first my cards/footage weren't showing up. Picked up a junk VX2100 a while back for $50 and was dealing with never ending headaches from tape head issues. Finally can use it!

I got a vx2000 and I actually been watching your videos. Very cool and interesting stuff that I have learn. I actually just got the camera today and I went to New York City for my fisheye and the cables to use that device you talked about in the video. So thanks for the recommendation about the powerplay . I’m thinking of getting the tapes but I don’t want to ruin the camera by using the tapes.

@@charvao I have a vx2000 and The process of tapes and capturing and editing just everything with tapes is just a hassle. I just recently got into standard definition because I’ve always wanted to try it and I realized it’s just so much work lol. After 3 months of messing around with it I finally figured it out on my MacBook. And obviously tapes are scarce. I have 5 tapes left that I’ll use but this is an amazing option and I’m definitely going to invest into this. And one question. So with the lcd on the power play. Do you think it’s better than the lcd on a vx 2000?

They make video capture devices that come with the proper cables so you won’t get glitched audio. Just google avi video recorder and look for one that comes with a screen and has a built in battery.

everyone having trouble recording, first make sure you have SD card in press the green button on powerplay go down to format SD card then when its good use the scroll button on the rc to start recording
I’d really like to see a side by side comparison in a controlled setting with the same shot. One filmed on the digital recorder, one filmed on tape. I own 2 DN-60s and this option is very tempting, but my main concern is on a loss of quality.
I wish I could do it but I don’t have a way anymore of transferring the tapes which is a shame

Sick that you've found and used this cheaper alternative solution, especially one that's so light, allows a preview screen and records to microSD, that all seems pretty convenient.
But as the resolution outputting from the analog RCA bypasses the firewire, and seeing as VX footage is low res as it is, I gotta admit I'm not fully convinced, as it doesn't come near matching the quality of the digital signal (audio or video), especially for those after the crispiest VX footage. Also the fact it creates a 60 FPS footage codec, that isn't that same as PAL DV footage (25/50) that you get with VX, opens the door to potential post-production issues depending what you're trying to do.
It's a cool option for sure, especially if like you say you're just filming with your mates for a laugh. But if you want your VX footage at full DV quality without tapes, the firewire solutions (albeit expensive and rare) are still the most effective way to go.
Either way, sorry for the rant, but I'm a bit of a purist! Big ups for putting another option out there!
All that is very true but at the end of the day if u want the crispiest it’s best to buy one of those devices like you got, all I’m saying this is for someone like me who wants to not bother with tapes anymore for 1/4th of the price of a device like yours it’s a bit of a shame it’s not all perfect but I guess that’s the price you pay isn’t it ahah but when it’s rendered and uploaded I cannot tell the difference but yeh 👌🏼

cool video, but I have 2 questions. First, do you start and end the recording on the vx or on the IMMERSIONRC POWERPLAY FPV DVR? Second, does there need to be a tape in the vx torecord at all?
No tape needed , once you see display press down on the black button on the top
Would you happen to know the import settings for Final Cut Pro x? For the most part it imports the footage fine, however it is slightly zoomed in and cropping out part of the vig on the right side! When I try to “transform” or “crop” it in final cut it doesn’t let me see the whole clip

Thanks a lot! I use a Canon XM1 to film skating, this camcorder has just a combined A/V Connenctor (same as the DVR probably) should this work too with just a 3 point aux 3,5 mm cable or do you think I need something more specific?

Hi bro I have the same camera and something is wrong with the image in all the camera modes indoors the image looks dark the camera needs to have a lot of light for the image to be seen, for example I am recording outside with sunlight but when I move to the shade the image will be completely dark even if I control the exposure you know what this problem is due to

One thing I forgot to mention is sometimes because the vx doesn’t register as it’s being active it will turn off every 10 mins or so but all u gotta do is take the tape out.!. ALSO to record dont press record on the camera press the button on the device at the top ! no tape is needed at all :D hope u enjoyed

hey boss sorry if this has already been asked but does where you mounted the recording device affect being able to move the viewfinder much? like can you tilt the viewfinder enough to to still shoot long lens comfortably or would you put it somewhere else now if you were to change it?
Yes you can I put mine in a set place where jt can still go at like a 45 degree a angle

How do you record on it though, do you just press the record button and the power play starts recording or do you press record on the power play? Also do you need a tape inside of the vx in order for it to record as well?
sorry man yes forgot to mention that you just have to press the buttton on the top of the camera instead of the vx. and no, no tape is need

I have a vx1000 and also you can rebuild the camera battery pack I used 4 of those battery you showed for the pvr the falt with the battery in the camera is the charging system stops working so I broke the battery open and replace 4 batteries you put 2 batteries in Series and the 2nd 2 in Series so you have 7 volts and then you connect them in parallel and put back in to the battery case but make sure everything is isolated I hope this is help for you

There’s other drone DVR that records to microSD but I am unsure if any other ways tbh other than the FireWire devices that are expensive

the quality by all means is not as crisp as firewire but. if you dont have much money and want a cheaper way of getting footage from the vx and you want a screen this is for you, im going to be using this for all my edits from now on. i dont care about the mono audio and the slightlly less quality because by the time you render it out either firewire or this device all the footage will look the same either way. hope you enjoy the vid check my other vids out n follow me on insta @charvao. cheers!
does anyone know why the audio cuts off sometimes? I have the immersionrc powerplay also and the audio cuts out out of nowhere sometimes and sometimes my whole sesh has no audio after it cuts out the first time. Anyone know how to make sure that doesn't happen? Or does anyone know how to know when it happens so i could fix it?

How often do you lose your audio ? I’d hate to miss out clips because the audio goes out, you mentioned it has to go in a certain amount to the jack out put ?
Once you push it in enough and out enough I recommend super gluing the Jack in place once you know it works with the audio I’ve done it and it works perfectly every time

The firestore is pretty big, but it works pretty well. It can record in .avi, mpeg4, etc. I record to QuickTime (lossless quality) in it and then upload the clip into mpegstream clip (free). The quality stays perfect if you export it correctly for Instagram. If you want a full edit then using a real editor is best for that since you can’t string a video together with stream clip.

Yooooo champion! Noticed on your test clip with motion sound got a little glitchy, one of my main concerns is audio. How reliable is the audio with this setup? ALSO! Can you still see off the cameras viewfinder? Or only the screen of the recorder
Once it’s glued in place it won’t move about abs make audio problems , in that clip I didn’t have it glued
@@charvao glue the cable into the port? And just remove the AVC side? Or glued to the cam? Also does the in camera viewfinder work?

Does the device also captures 50fps ? I thought that 60fps was for NTSC (30fps x 2) and 50fps for PAL (25fps x 2). Wouldn't it create more frames than needed or audio glitches going from 25 to 60fps ?
Your footage seems sharp and the audio is "clean", did you have any issues at all exporting the footage ?
no i think it either detects if your video is either pal or ntst and it chooses a certain frame rate for your camera, whatever camera you have either eu or american or japanese itll work fine with this device

anyone have any US links to the shorter RCA to 3.5mm cable? I have one, but mine is too long, so i wrapped the cable up so it wouldn't get in the way, and now it's messing with my powerplay and won't capture anything if the cable is bent and/or moved in a weird way.

It should work 100% ifs jusy if the quality is as good as using a p2 card or whatever it uses

Hello, I just bought this set up to switch to tapeless. I can hardly get any output from the Vx to the power play though. I can get a very dim image if I just barely plug in the 3.5mm cable, but when I plug it in all the way it’s always all black. I’ve ordered another one and I’m hoping it’s my cable being a badly made Chinese product, but I’m worried my VX might have failing RCA hardware… do you have any input on how I might trouble shoot this?
YEah most likely its the cable and some 3.5 jacks are longer or shorter than others so try anotherone if not then maybe try send back the device but it takes some fiddling around to get the right connection
@@charvao thanks for the response! I since got another cable and its working, outputting video and audio! Only issue is the audio often cuts out. Do you have any tips on how to ensure the audio is always being captured? it seems almost random, sometimes it works flawlessly until it doesn't. And then I just need to plug and unplug it. When actually out filming this would be HORRIBLE, where the clips can end up audioless without me knowing. Like you said, you really gotta play around with the cable. Its not all the way in when i'm using it.
Could you still use the path finder to film king lens? Or do you have to use the actual screen of the goggle?
You can use the long lens and you can see through the viewfinder it all works normally with there’s a device showing the image from the viewfinder

You just wanna take out the sd card and put it in your macbook, if it doesn't have a sd port , just buy a usb-sd card adapter, it cost around 5-10€
