In todays video I will be showing you a simple tutorial on how to convert a Camcorder into a tapeless camera. So that you can easily upload videos from it to your computer for editing. I personally use a usb stick as a memory device for the clear click, but you can use sd cards as well.

Is there a component video alternative? Because otherwise you aren't able to get an HD video signal. This video might work fine for DV camcorders but it not going to cut it for HDV.
I actually just uploaded a couple hdv versions of this tutorial a few weeks ago. I'll link them for you here

I love the fact that you use the older equipment and by simply thinking out of the box come up with a pretty reasonable, workable solution.
Thank you, believe it or not it was actually cheaper than getting a fully functional GL2 or Sony VX! So I thought that was pretty awesome too. I like to show people how to not only save money, but also that sometimes with a little creativity you can turn the old item on the shelf into to something new!
If you use an s-video cable you will get better video quality. It’s kinda like old school hdmi. Only problem with it is you have to run the white and red audio cables with it because s-video doesn’t have audio.
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to give that a try for sure
Hey pal, I just ordered me an s-video cable. It will be here Friday. The day before I go film at a nearby skatepark! So we shall give it a gooo! Thanks for the tips 😎🙏💯
@@MothAV I know is late but how was the quality with the s video cable after?
@Alex_510! S-video is better, but it's nothing to write home about. It's not like component, (RGB) where you are getting an HD like picture.
It doesn’t matter
Dude this rules, much respect. I see these cams listed on marketplace all the time with broken tape decks but will def pick one up pronto
Thank you! Yeah this really is a great way to bring an old camera back to life! I also have a video where I used a 1980s camcorder as a webcam. You should check that out too!
GL2 was my first skate camcorder, hyped to see it getting some new love
Thanks, it’s definitely a great camera for its age! I practically built my whole channel on that camera. Im using a sony fx7 now.
nice vid , been wanting to get my hands on a vx. but i think you inspired me down a dif route
wow idk why it didn't show me this comment. I'm happy I've helped you
with making an informed decision! always happy to help.
Amazing explanation, amazing camera!
Thank you!
This vid is one of the best ive seen in yt history
Literally the coolest comment ever 😎🔥🤘
Hey man after about a month and a half of gathering hardware I've finally completed my GL2 setup with the method you provided!! Thanks a ton dude, gonna get rad ski clips
Heck yeah dude! That's rad! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I still film on that beauty every week!
You must be a gnarly skier to be filming on gl2! Please do let me know when you upload! I want to watch!
@@MothAV I already posted one last night, gonna film tonight too. All the homies are loving it!!
That’s a sick little trick dude! It already looks like a skate video without any shots of skating so that must be a good sign!
Dude it makes some vibrant videos
Super badass, thank you for this video man!!
No prob homie. Thank you for watching! Appreciate it!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This answered so many questions!!
Happy my video could help you!
7:50 'i got a new camcorder, of course I'm gonna mess with it times a million' this is exactly the energy i'm feeling as well after I picked up a TRV900
TRV900 is a niiiice camera too 💯💯💯
Just recently got me a Japanese Sony fx7. It's dv tape, but films in 1080i. It's a beauty!
@@MothAV Checking it out now. Looks rad
What about the on-screen information like timecode, battery and all other little symbols? I have a Samsung camcorder with a broken tape mechanism and it has a constant blinking „INSERT TAPE“ message on-screen when using the viewfinder, I obviously wouldn‘t want that on all my recordings
Hell Yea dude, I've had a GL1 just sitting and collecting dust, I think this video might make me pick it up and start shooting with it.
That's awesome! Yeah their really fun for making those 90s style videos. Idk, something about those old school videos are a blast to film.
it works? im planing to buy gl1
Thank you for this video I recently bought this canon GL2 and the GL1 SO I am going to get this product for my Canon so I don't have to used tape thank you
Awesome! I'm glad it could help you! Yeah it makes it very convenient to transfer files.
Had one of these back in the day of skateboarding! (15 years ago) and I absolutely loved. Did moving image a college and used it for that too. Love that old school look you get from this beast! Miss those days 😔
Thank you homie! Yeah doing my best to keep it original to what I seen in my childhood. It really was a Golden Era in skate culture
My inspiration is allot of beagles work.
We’ll keep doing it bro, it looks so sick! Can’t describe it to these youngsters but your right, it was the golden era! I don’t know if you ever saw ‘7 year glitch’ I think it was New Deal that made it in 2002, That was my absolute favourite skate vid!
Gained a subscriber here any way!
@@Yew-Tyewbe imma have to watch that this evening!
This is awesome! I have a TRV900 that I use to use for skateboarding but my tape deck broke so I am hoping this is a fix. That way I don't need to worry about tapes and i can get retro looking footage!
Sick! Thanks homie 💪🏼
💯🤘😎
Thanks so much for the video
I'm not gonna use this exact device, but a famous Japanese car part store called Up Garage opened its first non-Japan location in my city. It caused alot of interesting 80s/90s cars to loiter around the store/area, and I can't find a better reason to start digitizing a camcorder I was toying with! Dropping the reliance on tape would be a real gamechanger
Thats sooo cool! I wish you luck on your adventures!
you changed my life you are the best
Thank you! You rock! Stay creative awesome human!
lifesaver using this method on my small panasonic gs80 camcorder hopefully still gonna work well
I use it on my smaller canon as well, and it works well.
Also thank you for checking out my content! Appreciate you!
Thanks Tim, that is a great idea.
I have a Canon XHA1 in absolute perfect condition, does record in tape, but I can't deal with tapes anymore.
I'll buy the Clearclick and convert to a "fully digital" HD camera.
(my Canon has a slot for a SD card, but sadly only records pictures, not videos 😫)
Cheers from San Diego. Thanks again !
No problem! Im happy my video could help. I actually use this in my sony fx7 which does have a working tape deck as well. Its just easier than adding a firewire port to a newer computer
My set up is having issues with the cable and have to have it half hanging out how do I flix that ?
Thank you so much!!! I just got a CANNON XL2 for $240! I thought I would have to have a laptop and you solved my issue so simply. I'm a comedian /imressionist that can do darth Vader's voice and I will do a qhone greeting or a voice over for you excellent video.
Happy to be of help! I hope you enjoy your new setup!
I recently got one of these cameras from a homie I’m really young and can’t wait to use it
Awesome! I think you will have a blast using this old classic!
Starting to see these in the wild. We must RETURN to AESTHETIC art technology and REJECT buying new IPHONES every year.
Actually bumping into them myself out here too! Im happy my video and videos like it are making such an awesome impact!
This is really useful coming from the point of a broke teen wanting to film skateboarding thank you very much!!!
Your very welcome! Check out the electronics section of goodwill for cameras too! I've found a few good cameras that way too!
I still have a mostly functional GL2 in my closet. The mic is screwed and makes glitchy noises. I wonder if you can just record audio via quarter inch?
If you have the correct mic for the mic outlet on the camera then yes, you should have no issues getting it to work. Sorry it took so long to respond, been working on my car all day 😂 😅
thanks alot man big help
No problem! Happy to help!
Thanks for the tutorial. I just picked up a Canon XL2 from Goodwill for $19. It’s missing the power sources, the lenses, and the viewfinder. Otherwise, it’s still a steal at this price.
Heck yeah! Your welcome! I hope you enjoy your rig!
Yo so I don’t have rca cables on my camera. Only svideo and a aux input, would I need the svideo and a yellow rca to aux to capture sound and video?
I'd say that would be a good path to take. If the aux output is just for audio and s video is the only video output port then all you have to docis plug them into their respected ports and set the video feed to s video on the clrarclick. It will still pick up audio from the audio cables you plug in so long as you have the proper cables hooked up
Cool video! This was my first prosumer camcorder back in the day before switching over to countless VXs/ HVX. Is the quality loss noticeable since it's recording from the camera screen and not actually the camera itself like the other digital recorder counterparts?
Well, its a slight drop. But if you get the newer clearclick hd models it will actually help the quality or keep it og crisp
thanks man!! managed to pick up a working vx2100 for around 200 bucks, but i dont really wanna fuck with the cassetes anymore, so this came in handy!!
Hell yeah! Im glad it could help! I hope to get a 2100 at some point their sick!
Can you still use the on camera viewfinder/ LCD screen when recording on the ClearClick?
Yes, I keep the lcd screen open when I'm filming with it just for extra visual reference, and occasionally use the viewfinder
Hey thanks for the demo, clearest one I've seen yet. If I remember correctly you'll get a slightly better image if you transmit through S-Video rather than RCA since the ClearClick takes that input also. How do you carry the power bank and recorder while shooting?
Thank you! It really was a great camera to use for the time i had it. I rested the battery in the side hand strap.
does this work with minidv? i have a panasonic PV-DV400D and i just want to make sure it works before i buy the card.
Yea it does
Hey man, awesome video I just have a few questions. So I have the same camera as you (Canon GL2) and everything’s hooked up all correctly, but I just can’t seem to get a display on the clearclick even with the camera turned on and everything plugged in. It’s just stuck on that blue screen almost like something’s not connecting properly. I tried AV and S-video but neither seem to work.
That's odd, I'm not 100% sure what to do there 🤔. Ok the comments are jam packed with other viewers who communicated their issues and found solutions. I'd give the comments a peep
Where did you get your cable? (The one that goes into the camera to the capture card) I’m going to try this with a Sony DSC-F707 which has the yellow port plug in.
You should be able to find everything easy on eBay. That’s where I got everything
Ok so everything works, but how do I turn off all the little widgets that appear on both the cams LCD screen and that of the clearclick. Because each time I capture the screen, it shows the widgets (e.g. insert tape widget). Any tips?
There is a button on the side of the camera where the lcd display reast when closed. Hit that and also go into settings and turn OFF tv mode
Nice tats dude🤙🤘
Thank you! I do them myself because it's cheaper to learn than to pay a professional 😂 I'm cheap
Hello dude, i have a question, what did you do for remove the info about the charge, time recording, etc? nice video!
You should try 3d printing mounting brackets for the battery & display and go with custom cabling to reduce cable tangle. That would be a cool follow up video.
🤔 well I am planning on getting a 3d printer eventually. I might just do so! Just have to wait till I have it in my budget. But I love the idea! Would you like a general update video where I discussed everything been through and what changes I've made?
@@MothAV The holy grail of converting film from digital is the Sony f35.
I knew about that camera so what you did here makes me interested in how we can save great technology such as that camera.
Here's a free documentary that was shot on it to give context.
ua-cam.com/video/OiRD3GcjmKk/v-deo.html
so to my understanding your recording off of the clear click from the video out from the camcorder. Does that mean you have to carry around all those cables around while filming. Also could you use tapes to record on a fully working camcorder and then play back the tapes and record with the clear click to digitize?? Just bought a TRV65 to setup for recording and want to figure this all out.
Yes to all 3 questions. But I have a video I will link in a separate comment on how I clean up my wiring and how to set it up the easiest way. And yes, you can record playback. From camcorders, to VHS 📼 movies on a VHS player. It just captures the output of whatever you have it connected to.
Here is a video on how I cleaned up the wiring to make it all tucked away neat and tidy. For your camera I recommend getting the grip I'll link below to mount the camera, and the clear click as well.
Video tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/OwtXcr5diVY/v-deo.html

They have more expensive grips, and mounts, but I generally recommend budget friendly options because budget friendly is friendly on everyone's wallets
@@MothAV thanks so much for the info and responding so quickly. gonna go the tape route. Thanks again !!
@@snakeyeet3179 No problem, I like to be as helpful as I can to my viewers! Thanks for watching!
How did you get the sound to be so good? On my Grabstar PRO dnt, twice as expensive, the sound was terrible. There are also no audio resolution settings. So, how did you manage to make it sound so good?
Well i did have trouble with the av cables and had to get a new pair to make it work so that would be a good thing to try.
@@MothAV Unfortunately it doesn't work. The sound is just as bad regardless of whether I have AV or HDMI as audio input. And I tried a lots of cables. It is the resolution of the sound in the device itself that is bad. If you look at the recorded video and its properties, you can see that the bit rate of the audio is only 140 kbts. This is close to the sound of an old phone. Does the sound have the same low resolution on your recordings?
@jonasbjornhager1046 dang, sorry to hear that
Can you do this for a Panasonic hvx202 ?
Hey do you think this would work for a Sony Fx-1 and if not do you have another solution
As long as it has the auxiliary/s-video out ports on the camera it should work. You can even hook it up to a VCR to record your old tapes to transfer to mp4. Basically it can record any AV signal that shares the same ports.
There is a MUCH better way to do this. Buy a monitor that records what it’s displaying to SD card, that takes an LP battery and has RCA inputs (FireWire or HDMI) and takes LP battery. Set it in the hot shoe. Plug it in. You’re all set. You can get these monitors for under $120. If you can’t find one with the RCA chords, you will need adapters from FireWire to HDMI or USB depending on which you get.
These little “digital” converters often suck, and make the footage look terrible. you have to delace the footage and even then it still never looks right. These old cameras were made for totally different types of televisions (CRT), and unless you’re watching your footage on one, footage from these old 3 chip cameras never looks the way it was meant to, and thus you’re not really getting that vintage look as it was intended to look.
However I have found the best way to get it, is simply to screen record it using these cheap camera monitors that can record what’s being displayed. Or to simply use an older MacBook and import the footage like it used to be done.
woah good idea
Right! Built most of this channel from this camera setup. Thanks for watching!
Awesome vid yo! Do you need an adapter ring to put on the fisheye? Im thinking about getting the 58mm opteka but want to make sure I get the right size!
The GL2 standard lens size is 58mm. I have two different types of Opteka 58mm lenses I use on mine. But my gl2 came with a lens spacer on it already. So whoever used it before me must have found that a spacer is useful.
I kept the spacer on and it works great. Just keep in mind that if you get the same big fisheye lens I use in this video that the lens is heavy lol. You feel how top heavy it is with the lens. So be careful with your rig homie!
Thank you i have a canon xl h1 and i hope to do the same.
No problem! Tag me in some clips when you get it working!
I see some for cheaper but not from the brand clearclick are they as good?
I cannot speak for those other brands. I've only used clearclick, and it has been a very reliable brand.
Thanks 🙏🏻

Sony CCD-TR60 video camera, is this camera suitable for this purpose?
As long as it has the av or s video ports yes
I will try this with my cannon GL2
Hi, great video, i have a cuestion, in the camera monitor do you see any title or time stamps? Or see a signal about no tape inserted on the cam?
Or is just what the lenses see?? I have a handy cam and in the monitor screen it have some icons but I don’t know if with the Clear Click i will have all those icons on my video
There are settings in the camera usually labeled “tv” that shut those off for any display the camera is connected to. You just have to change thise settings and they will not display on the clear click
@@MothAV thanks for answering, on my handycam i have a button to no show info on the screen but the no cassete logo doesn’t disappear, do you know something??
That is the fullest extent of my knowledge. But, id say you should be in the clear. Bc i never ran a tape in my gl2

@@MothAV thanks bro, i will keep searching
hey man hope u can help me out, got the same setup and tested it out today and once transferred to my computer i have no sound and quality is garbage are there settings i need to mess with ?
Okay, hmmm 🤔 I've never came across this issue, but it usually comes down to faulty wires or something similar. So the best thing to do is go over everything and test it.
*Is the video/audio clear in playback on the clearclick? If it is, maybe try a different SD/USB stick to save your files to. Sometimes the SD/USB can be damaged.
*If you haven't tested the audio in playback then turn up the volume on clearclick when you watch it back on the clearclick to see if it is working. If it isn't then check to make sure your volume is turned up on your camera, and if that doesn't work try different audio cables. (MAKE SURE WHEN YOUR RECORDING THE VOLUME ON CLEARCLICK IS TURNED DOWN, BUT ALWAYS KEEP VOLUME UP ON CAMERA)
Sometimes these old cameras can be quiet the project to get up and running. But the best part about it is learning how they work. Anyone can pull out their iphone and film a clip. It takes passion for filming to capture gold on these oldies. I genuinely wish you luck. If you need any more help hmu on IG @ timothy_luke_
Hey awesome video! Wanted to ask maybe you can tell me or someone in comment section, can someone please write me more options on camcorders like Canon GL2 that i could also change tapeless...?

Yo I have the exact same build but my clear click makes this weird noise when it’s plugged into the gl2 and I’m not getting any footage on the clearclick even though it has the sd card or flash drive or when everything working.
Huh, might need a different pair of av cables, and make sure the volume is always down on the clearclick unless you're just playing back previous recordings
@@MothAV any recommendations on some AV cables? I have the gold ones

is there any alternative for the clearclick device? they don't sell these in my country
There are several devices that are similar. Just look up video capture devices
i have the clear click and when i plug it into my xm2 it just starts making a high pitch noise and not streaming the footage to the clear click, what do i do
That is a very common issue. The high pitched sound is because the volume on the clear click speaker is turned up. You need to turn it down so it doesn't interfere with the cameras mic. You only need it turned up for playback. And you need to switch your aux cables for the opposite of what your using now. If there gold plated metal then get non gold plated. Also if you read through the comments on the video the other viewers have shared a bunch of helpful tips that helped them. Be sure to read those too.
does the mount hold the converter and the power bank? And also, all the camera functions still work though right? I'm assuming theres color/picture modes etc. Or do you loose features doing this?
The only feature you lose is the ability to use the tape deck. Because your not recording to tape. But everything else works. And as for the power bank, you can put it wherever is best for you.
@@MothAV Hey Timothy. I'm not sure if you know this or not but if I have a SD vs HD camera, this sort of setup would be in what quality? If the camera could normally record in 1080 on a P2 would it be HD with this, for example? Thank you

i have a clear click 3 plugged into my trv900e with svideo to svideo, then a/L and a/R combining into av. white makes a loud feedback loop and red makes the clear click buzz loudly. there aren't individual rca ports on the camera and there is no mic jack on the clear click, how can i avoid the noises and record better audio? keep in mind if i unplug the av (while the a/L and a/R ends are still plugged into the clear click) even if i bring it close to the camera's port it feeds back/buzzes. are the ports bad or is it device proximity?
Do you have an IG or FB where I can msg you and we can troubleshoot this?
I'm not 100% sure on the issue but I have a handful of things to go over to try to solve it
might be a longshot but a cheap way to count out interference is to get a ferrite jacket for whatever av cables you’re using for audio
I've never herd of those. I'll have to check them out.
Well done amigo
thank you
is there a way to get playback directly from canon after filming?
yes, there is a mode button on the clear click you push 3 times to go to playback mode, as well as a screen to view your clips. you can play back anything you record on there
Just got a GL2 for tf of it on eBay and the headers are so messed up I’m most likely going to have to go this route as well just to get footy w it
yeah my gl2's headers as well as someone elses I know all have header issues. It seems like a very common issue. but I can say from experience going digital is definitely pretty easy and convenient. cool profile name BTW !
I bought this unit brand new and paid I don't want to tell you how much. It has an old technology you're not familiar with it's called Sony I link which was FireWire period. It's right up above where you put the quarter inch plug in and you can come out of that and hook it directly into the computer that transmits all your sound and all your images directly to a computer and you don't need all of those converters. I set mine up in the studio in front of a green screen. The great thing that you may not know about this camera is that it can be used as a DSLR. It has all of the same features of a DSLR. You can get some really dramatic looking shots. It's just missing the high megapixel quality.
Cool stuff man, yeah I know what firewire is. My computer just didn't have a port. It's too new and had no more slots free on the motherboard. So I just went this route.
Hot my XHA1 Videoing now !! Only thing is I'm recording the flashing "NO TAPE" symbol and some other digital symbols from the screen, any way to turn them off to have clear picture like yours??
In the cameras swttings there will be something along the lines of “tv mode” try that
thankyou legend!! XHA1 actually has a "Display" button beside screen that flicks all the info on and off. Took me way too long to figure but I got it !! @@MothAV

Does the click have a memory card or is it a hard drive, how do you save what your videoing.
A USB stick or SD card
I have the same capturing device with a different name on it. I used it a few times [connected to my camcorder], but the quality is not the greatest. I wonder if it makes more sense to get a RCA to HDMI converter and then use something like a Atomos Ninja V? Yes, the Ninja is around $400 - 500 bucks, but the quality should be way better. Should, but I am not sure.
Well clear click makes a 4k version of this for around $300 and it captures in HD SD 4k the works. That's actually what I switched to and I love it. Highly recommend it
@@MothAV Oh, good to know. Did you even compare the footage from the clear click to footage capture differently e.g. firewire or capture card? Thanks.
Honestly no I originally went the cheapest simplest route. That was more what this video was focused of was a budget friendly option
@@MothAV Copy that. Thanks.
hello, I have a question if the camera does not turn off when recording on the recorder, otherwise the camera is idle. Regards
I think I understand what your asking. The only thing the camera has to do is turn on, and stay on.
The clear click is what you use to record what the camera displays while powered on.
@@MothAV yes, but when the camera is on, after a period of inactivity, it turns off even though it is connected to the recorder
I believe that's something you have to change in the settings.
@@HermanOtto-wr2nn Usually, the camera only turns off automatically if there is an actual cassette tape inside, as far as I know.
Wait since you use the clear click can you still the old camera lens and still see from it or are you only restricted to viewing from the clearclick

@@MothAV Ok that’s good to hear thanks for the reply
Congratz you got a Like! You could show your setup when filming with all that stuff.

@@MothAV when filming, where do you attach the power bank, the converter and the cables? In a backpack?
So I bought the clear click and my gl2
Won’t show up when I plug it it. Any idea on that?
It could be either a bad cable, or a bad video port on either the clear click, or the gl2
I noticed that the clearclick has a ringing sound when it is near a mic, does that sound show up in the footage?
What you have to do to stop that is turn down the volume on the clearclick. That will stop the ringing sound and yes it will still capture the audio! Thank you for watching!
It may still make that sound for a second or two every time you power it up, but it will stop if you turn down that clearclick volume
Awesome vid, just bought this to film skateboarding with a hi8 camera. I haven’t seen this on any videos about the clear click so I’m assuming there’s no playback feature until you have uploaded to pc?

Where????
Many of the older Canons have the opposite problem where the tape mechanism works fine, but there is no video. Those are pretty much useless for this application. But it's nice to see an old broken camera put to good use.
Thank you, I agree! I just uploaded a couple more videos on some similar setups but they capture in a higher definition. If you are a camera nerd you might appreciate those!

Hi there, so I have the canon gl2 and the clearclick 2.0 and I got the cord and everything but when everything’s plugged in and on it just shows a blue screen on the clearclick, so I tried switching around the component cables and I switched yellow and white and I got a signal but the quality on the lcd was very poor.
hmm 🤔 when I first got started in digital conversion I actually bought a bad cable. It was very frustrating. there are only three things it could be. the av cable is bad, the av port on the camera is bad, or the clear click has a malfunction. try testing out each of these with different components to see if you can pinpoint a weakness
@@MothAV No worry’s it was the cable but I realized that only one side of the microphone works on the gl2 because I can here it on yours and mine if you wear headphones
@@mvteorodriguez have you tried turning up the volume dials on the camera? maybe the one side is turned down. also happy to know you got the cable issue fixed 😊
@@MothAV yeah they are both even it’s so wack
@@mvteorodriguez darn, sorry to hear that. Does the audio at least sound clear? the external mic jack is on the side of the camcorder by the tape deck. I'd recommend a rode mic
What settings are you using on the camera, do you film on auto or do you film on manual?
Honestly I'm still tinkering with it to figure out how I like it. I do use custom settings on the colors following the Begal method. Max color, max sharpness, adjusting wb and such according to the lighting outside. His settings are for a VX, but if you check out my yt short I uploaded yesterday I have pulled some solid videos from it.
I do keep the focus on auto, but may change it in the future
My AV cable when plugging into my Canon XHA1 - Shows image on the digit now converter, but only when plugged in halfway. When I plug in all the way I lose picture. Is there a shorter AV cable I need ??
I have a handful of other videos explaining how to make the setup easier to work with in one of my playlists. I think you would get allot of helpful info from those!
I also have a XHA1, can you please provide the link for your videos with cable instructions ?
Thanks !
I figured it out!! went into XHA1 Manual and discovered that the AV port requires a certain type of 3.5mm input. Found it on Ebay. They're called STV-250N Cables. Finally have video !! Only issue is some high pitched whistle when White AV cable is plugged in, but I've unplugged and seems to have fixed only I'm left with Left audio signal. Hope that helps
@@yachtcaptain7320
figured it out, requires a special kind of AV cable !! @@yachtcaptain7320
The AV cable is wired to the Sony standard, which is different from all other AV cable standards. The Yellow plug and either the white or red need to be switched when plugged into the ClearClick (I don't remember which), and that will cure the issue.
Yo! Did you run into any problems with the audio? My gl2 isnt picking up audio for some reason.
All fixable issues, what's happening with it for you?
@@MothAV video works perfectly fine but there’s no audio. Have already tried two different AV cables
Damn, might just be bad ports

what is the name of the power bank you are using and how many amps is it, is it maybe on Amazon or something
I actually switched to a different one. The one I use now is this one www.ebay.com/itm/165808749665?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ACs7BecrQlG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=N-t5UGS3QbG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
It's much more reliable and the slim design makes it easier to fit without the bulk
Hey! Sorry if I missed anything, but why not use the SD card slot on the side? I’ve been shopping for one and I see everyone doing these conversions and I can’t figure out why. Is it a different card? Quality? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Oh no I just didn't have a functioning card laying around lol. I use a regular SD card now lol. Yeah it just takes the same sd card you would get for a digital camera.
And no harm in asking questions! That's why I posted the video. I like to be helpful when I can 😊
@@MothAV omfg you’re a lifesaver. I was like, wtf why isn’t anyone using cards lol and it works fine with video and audio? Any pro tips for using them?
@@tylerunderground Well honestly its pretty simple, you use your camera to adjust the color, focus, and everything else, and you just use the clear click to capture what the camera sees. Using the clear click with an old camera does definitely put new life in old geezers. But its always good to have a backup power bank for those long filming sessions. You dont want your clear click to die mid session. But other than that, if you go to my channel, I have a handfull of other helpful videos on working with this camera setup
@@MothAV you rock, thanks!
For some reason my clearclick will record everything (very glitchy) and I can watch it back on the clearclick but when I plug my flashdrive into the computer there’s nothing in the folder and I’ve tried to format it and record something new each time and still no files on my Mac… any ideas??
hmm, It sound just like the issue I had the my SD card. Except it's a flash drive. Try switching to an SD card and see if that helps.
I know, it's like really I got a flash drive because that's what worked for you. But sometimes what works good for one is the opposite for another. Plus although your having issues, our conversations and troubleshooting will help others make an informed decision. TEAM WORK 🙌
i love your vidéo!! Do you think if I buy a cable with only the white and the red cable and i add a s video cable it will work?
🤔 well as long as the one side of the cable has the same plug required to hook up to the gl2 I'd say it's worth a promising try. But it never hurts to play it safe and get the one with all three. Because it leaves you with a backup plan in case your s video cable or s video port goes out. Gotta think ahead ya know 😁
I personally just keep both video cables hooked up a d just have it set to s video.
Also love your profile pic 😆 mid 90s rocks!
@@MothAV yeah I think i’m gonna go with the safest option! Thanks to listening your community and keep going with your video they are awesome!! mid90 is one of my inspiration
@@zacharymorin6185 Awesome, and it's no problem homie. Its as much me learning as it is my viewers. I wouldn't be a good content creator if I didn't look out for my supporters. Y'all rock!
does this also work with a night vision mode?
If the camera has built in night vision mode then yes. The clear click just records what is mirrored to it from the camera displays
Had me laughing my ass off when you said and as you can see... you can see my crotch awkwardly enough, that's a bold shot of my crotch. loved the video, just bought me a Panasonic AG-DVC20P
hey I have the same setup as in the video and when I record with the clearclick and listen to the video I hear a big buzzing sound that stops as soon as I remove the red wire from the clearclick I bought another wire and I have the same problem, the clearclick sound is also off, what could it be?
🤔 that is odd. So the buzzing sound is in the playback when you upload the clips to PC? Or is it just playback on the clearclick
@@MothAV well the buzzing sound is when I upload the clips in my PC and when I play the clip on my clearclick so I think the camcorder might be the problem
@@MothAV Do you think if I buy an external mic the buzzing sound will disappear?
@@zacharymorin6185 hmm still having the buzzing issue... I mean yeah it very well could just be the stock microphone. I'd say buying one to add on may fix it.
@@MothAV cool! I think i’ll get a new mic! do you any suggestions of microphone to keep the grainy sound of the gl2?
You linked the usb and didn’t use it(or maybe I missed it) im assuming you’re using that in place of formatting a sd card right? So the clear click supports filming onto the usb?
Am new to this and got a cheap gl2 and fisheye, thanks
You can use either a USB stick or an SD card. At the time of making this video I only had a USB stick. I switch between both now as I need to when space gets full on one or the other.
You can use any USB memory stick or any regular old SD card
@@MothAV thanks g!
Say I have a tape with film I need to get digitized, can I play it back off the tape in VCR mode and record it onto the clear click like that too? Thanks again
@@SCOOGRR You absolutely can! You can also hook the clear click up to your vcr and convert your old VHS collection to an SD card. It just records whatever is being displayed by whatever it's hooked up to. That's how the clear click works summed up!
@@MothAV appreciate you!
What fish eye and adapter do you use?
Its just a standard spacer ring you can get on ebay. Just search for a spacer ring for the size of the lens you own. If your lens is a different size than your cameras then you would want to get a step up or step down ring to help it fit.
Damn I’m running the same camera same setup and it my clear click stays in blue and won’t record, I can’t get it to work. Any thoughts ?
It may be bad aux cables. Try replacing them and if that doesn’t work I would contact the owner to see about getting a replacement.
Mine is doing the same thing but with my vx1000 did you figure out anything?
Have you tried a diffrpair of aux cables? Also it could just be bad av ports
where can i find the xm2 in france/paris?
I will tell you the main places that I look for cameras is eBay, thrift shops, and word of mouth. That is how I found all my cameras.
I ordered a 10 pack of dv tapes already should pry gonna buy one of those when it’s a pain to get my clips on my pc
It may be convenient
@@MothAV I’ve got the clear click and I returned the tv tapes but it says I need a sd card when I hit record with the clear click
@@Gordonshreds yes, you do need an SD card or USB flash drive to put into the clear click to save your recordings to.
Watch my other videos about my Canon GL2 with the clear click to get some more helpful details. I think You misunderstood or I failed to explain it well in this video. You can record to tapes, but if you want to also record to the clear click you need to have an SD card or USB flash drive plugged into or inserted into the clear click to save the recordings to the clear click.
I have this same setup and the audio wont come through... the video works and everything but the audio comes through. any ideas as to whats wrong?
from my personal experience I'd have to guess either your auxiliary cables are damaged, or your volume dials for your mic are turned down, or sadly your mic just doesn't work. thankfully they all have solutions. I'd say the most affordable thing to try first is to check your mic dials. if they are turned up then next I'd replace the auxiliary cables. If that doesn't work then I'd say try an external mic. there is a mic jack on the side of the camcorder by the tape deck. but yeah try those, and let me know how it went for you from there.
My audio wouldn’t come thru either and I realized it was cause my little switch on the backside of the camera that same “card / tape” was slid towards card and once I slid it to tape the audio kicked on, could have nothing to do with your problem tho
does it work with the xm1 as well?
As far as I know it should so long as your camera has working s-video/av video out ports
Hello sir, is it possible to connect the GL2 to an Android Tv? Thank you sir for your reply..
Yes there is. It is not as efficient as this method, but it's alright. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/WNzVsCA9irc/v-deo.html.
It's how I first had my setup before I got the clear click.
