The only element of Tarkov in this game is the extraction. When you can go back in and get your gear again if you die, then its nothing like Tarkov. You cant collect guns or armor. There are no other players. This is NOTHING like Tarkov.

Epic offers A LOT of money (millions even) well before the game's release. If a dev is in need of cash to finish the game, that can be a mighty tempting offer.

The former is something that no self-respecting artist or businessman would consider as anything other than a last resort. The latter takes weeks or months, comes with the expectation of having tiers and premiums, requires backer liaison and fulfillment systems be implemented, and ultimately comes with no guarantee of funding at all. Meanwhile, Epic's on-the-table offer is guaranteed money up-front and comes with no strings beyond the exclusivity window. Trading a delay in maximum market access and a small ding to their reputation for it might be a small price to some.

I see this more as a Single Player RPG Rouge-Lite Version of Hunt: Showdown mixed with Destiny & Tarkov. The art style and how it's about Witches definitely feels like Hunt: Showdown big time for sure. thanks for the exclusive game play Splat-Cat, really awesome game and can't wait to try it out
Wow! You can really tell how much an impact the good AI has on difficulty. Watching the combat, I couldn't help but feel that if the AI was swapped with the AI from like Borderlands, the fights would not be anywhere near as hard. It looks like a lot of care went into making these enemies not only dangerous, but smart as well.
Swordsmen hiding and pouncing, spearmen only pushing when you reload/go into cover, Archers flanking, Musketeer keeping distance but will bayonet charge if needed. This was awesome to see
Looks like they have an interesting base. I hope they expand on it for a lot of variety and we can somewhat make character builds. Vermintide was always too chaotic for me but this looks more measured although you are always under attack from so many directions and ranges.
I agree on the builds idea. I also got Vermintide vibes, though definitely less chaotic like you said. I like the open world and extraction aspects too, it feels like less commitment than a multiplayer co-op mission-based experience like Vermintide. This is currently the game I'm most excited about. I play tons of Darktide and I've been wanting a somewhat similar singleplayer experience with more exploration. I also like the dark 1800s-ish fantasy setting a lot.

It seems that the game development was a roller-coaster. It seemed to start as homage to old school shooters, then a little of Souls like in FPP, then Doom 2016, then Destiny and now I'm hearing Tarkov.

Fun fact - this game is from same developers who created Painkiller back in 2004. Which is why you see grunge graphics, metal monster designs, and protagonist using witchery to kill witches (like Daniel Gardner from Painkiller using demon mode to kill demons).

I love the crosses on the gun chambers...nice detail! Do you get Holy Hand Grenades? Is it like Solomon Kane where you can get cloaks and dual wield? Can I burn witches at the stake or dunk them for fun?

Tarkov has been out since 2017 locking itself down to its own platform, its new arena attempting to grow the brand and user base I'm guessing, They've had 6 years to either use that money to "make" something better or make something new, I feel they have failed in that matter. The loss of total sales from those choices alone were a huge mistake for a company coming out from only 1 other game under their belts. The make quote comment, was with no royalties owed to said platforms They could have been producing anything else, another game shit be it another extraction shooter or something totally new. The fact that there are mods to make the game solo and they said they would ban any account found using them speaks volumes of not just understanding your fan base. If I had better numbers to give you on total sales I would, they remind of the Day Z battle royal mod except in their situation they had enough time and money to really make something for themselves. What I guess is my main point is that Escape from Tarkov is niche and It really shouldn't have been, where as DMZ that being the big one has come in and swept up a lot of cash. Any single player tarkov type game immediately has my attention I love hunt, marauders,and tarkov but I really don't have the time to grind and practice to actually be able to fully enjoy the games
Hunt is all about PVP. All PVE elements there are trivial and meant only to get people into firefights. So no, Witchfire is nothing like Hunt, even the aesthetics is different. But speaking of gameplay, this is more like Shadow Warrior 2 meets Dark Souls (currency- and difficulty-wise).
It looks decent enough and I would have gone for it if it had a GOG or Steam simultaneous release. But at this point it seems it doesn't even have a release planned for either so yeah. And as pointed by some content variety is a huge concern especially based on the UI and presentation.
It does have a release planned for "other PC platforms" so preumably Steam and GOG, they said Early Access will take around about a year, to which around that time they'll release it presumably on steam. They have an FAQ on their website if you want to know more :)
off of the first 5 minutes alone of this gameplay I was in. Graphics and environment are cool, combat is challenging and fluid and it has rogue like tarkov mixed with a warhamer enviroment. whats not to like.
It looks pretty interesting. While it does have elements of a 1st person rogue lite it has rpg elements also. I'm really curious to see how the game evolves. If they handle the game right it could be fantastic and turn into a good product line.

I hope that, as it seems, this is nothing more than the beginning of a growth path for this game, the world created is very worthwhile and the gameplay itself seems more than captivating... a waterfall of hype until we know more. This nice video reminds me of the old horror adventure FPV game "Witchaven" developed by Capstone Inc. in 1994 in the US. Even though weapons and combat styles are perfectly different from the game, the background and main theme looked so similar in my thoughts. This game's protagonist is kind of gunslinger but the old game's main character was a knight based on long swords & shields. Whatever, it's a nice video.
I know its just me but everyone is fighting for immersion while having their games with floating damage numbers every time you hit, can it be toggled on and off?
To anyone that reads this; I've been looking for a game that I believe was played by Splatter at but for the love of me going through his videos and my history I can't find it. It was a post apocalypse maybe? Hunting/surviving kind of deal. It was a 2d (or 2 and a half) shooter, I believe pixelated but high quality, in which you had limited inventory space to go into an area (a map) which was a forestry area as far as I know, and loot stuff to get back to base and sell. The base was a bunker of sorts? Or a military base maybe?People in the base could give you missions like "oh hunt like 4 goats and being me back their meat" and you'd get more money for that. He had a room in his base that was basically empty where he could refit or upgrade his guns And he shot a friendly NPC in the map for a ton of cool guns. He also got shit on by running into a camp of enemies who had better guns than him. I really can't find this game anymore but I loved the concept and want to play it. Does anyone remember a game like that?

Well I'm sold on this. I was instantly getting the Destiny vibes and if I can get dope Destiny gameply without actually having to play Destiny, then I'm in!
God, I was watching the game throughout all the development, because it caught my interest immedietaly, I love shooters, the medieval vibe going on, the "hunt/be hunted" witch part and much more. All I can is that I'm more than happy to see the game have a release and it's in a few days, the last time I checked it said "early access soon".2 days ago I randomly went to see if there's some new info about the game and behold! Only the second, decent to good looking game to come out this year and it ends up being an Epic Exclusive...of course it is. Never thought I would see a last generation, turn based, top down, strategy game make game of the year in 2023, VR has been a legitimate gaming experience for years now.
The devs think Destiny is gods gift to FPS, so that's where that is coming from. A real shame to see a seasoned developer fall so far from their roots that they get brainwashed into thinking Destiny movement and shooting is great.
So I've played it a lot and I'm to a point with the two playable maps where the game is actually too easy and you can just go around clearing the whole map every time. The beginning is very hard and as you level up you get new enemies and stronger variants. you can level up your guns with the tiers like you saw and they get unique traits and elements the starting hand cannon is one of my favorites from what i've played it is a very good game and cant wait to see what they do to it, it is a small team of 12 devs but they are very active with this game and I cant wait for more.
honestly, based on your description, this game is making me think more of Hunt Showdown rather than tarkov. then again, i never played tarkov and only sporadically played Hunt. i will say that, yeah, this DOES look like a cool game. hope it releases with multiplayer.

Agree with the Red camara for waaayy too long, it kinda ruins the scenery. They could put up the red screen for a second when you get hit BAD and are near death so to let you know you are about to croak, but as you run around with low health, just return the screen to normal. I already know i'm at low HP, I don't need a perpetual red filter over everything
i would say the red screen would be ok after a hit for about 1-2sec kinda represents the pains vom getting hit ... but i fully agree that it should not be als the time just because you missing hp
You comparing it to Destiny is making me want to grab it for sure, I loved the gunplay in Destiny 2, and I was pretty sad when they started sunsetting content (that we paid for). I'm liking the look and feel of the starter revolver already.
Cool aesthetic and I'm interested, but I'll wait for full release. There needs to be a secondary action that you can take like melee, throwing something, marking an enemy to take more damage, or empowering your gun or anything. I'm sure later you get some cool tools but starting with only 6 shots seems a bit boring.
Damn i went to his twitch to hopefully see some more elusive gameplay to no avail. Such a shame but atleast we got some gameplay on the elusive game, cheers splat.

Just played the 2 first hours of it. It was a long time ago I felt so compelled by a game, it is truly something special.

Um there is zero evidence of this. All of the enemies stood still. The only thing that made this dangerous was the high damage

It looks decent enough and I would have gone for it if it had a GOG or Steam simultaneous release. But at this point it seems it doesn't even have a release planned for either so yeah. And as pointed by some content variety is a huge concern especially based on the UI and presentation.
It does have a release planned for "other PC platforms" so preumably Steam and GOG, they said Early Access will take around about a year, to which around that time they'll release it presumably on steam. They have an FAQ on their website if you want to know more :)
Screen tint on damage adds to the experience and fits the visual setting.

off of the first 5 minutes alone of this gameplay I was in. Graphics and environment are cool, combat is challenging and fluid and it has rogue like tarkov mixed with a warhamer enviroment. whats not to like.
the shooting and movement part is very well done
It looks pretty interesting. While it does have elements of a 1st person rogue lite it has rpg elements also.
I'm really curious to see how the game evolves. If they handle the game right it could be fantastic and turn into a good product line.
A luxury!!! I hope that, as it seems, this is nothing more than the beginning of a growth path for this game, the world created is very worthwhile and the gameplay itself seems more than captivating... a waterfall of hype until we know more.

This nice video reminds me of the old horror adventure FPV game "Witchaven" developed by Capstone Inc. in 1994 in the US. Even though weapons and combat styles are perfectly different from the game, the background and main theme looked so similar in my thoughts. This game's protagonist is kind of gunslinger but the old game's main character was a knight based on long swords & shields. Whatever, it's a nice video.
I know its just me but everyone is fighting for immersion while having their games with floating damage numbers every time you hit, can it be toggled on and off?
To anyone that reads this; I've been looking for a game that I believe was played by Splatter at but for the love of me going through his videos and my history I can't find it.
It was a post apocalypse maybe? Hunting/surviving kind of deal.
It was a 2d (or 2 and a half) shooter, I believe pixelated but high quality, in which you had limited inventory space to go into an area (a map) which was a forestry area as far as I know, and loot stuff to get back to base and sell. The base was a bunker of sorts? Or a military base maybe?People in the base could give you missions like "oh hunt like 4 goats and being me back their meat" and you'd get more money for that.
He had a room in his base that was basically empty where he could refit or upgrade his guns
And he shot a friendly NPC in the map for a ton of cool guns.
He also got shit on by running into a camp of enemies who had better guns than him.
I really can't find this game anymore but I loved the concept and want to play it.
Does anyone remember a game like that?

I think it's less the red vignette screen and more like waaay too many markers. Just leave the ones on the edge, get rid of the central arrows.
Well I'm sold on this. I was instantly getting the Destiny vibes and if I can get dope Destiny gameply without actually having to play Destiny, then I'm in!

God, I was watching the game throughout all the development, because it caught my interest immedietaly, I love shooters, the medieval vibe going on, the "hunt/be hunted" witch part and much more. All I can is that I'm more than happy to see the game have a release and it's in a few days, the last time I checked it said "early access soon".2 days ago I randomly went to see if there's some new info about the game and behold! It said early access release on the 20th. I'm so excited. Glad to see gameplay footage from someone else than the developers. It looks awesome

Only the second, decent to good looking game to come out this year and it ends up being an Epic Exclusive...of course it is. Never thought I would see a last generation, turn based, top down, strategy game make game of the year in 2023, VR has been a legitimate gaming experience for years now.
I think the damager numbers, floating heatlh bars and unit names kinda kills the immersion
Agree, don't know why most shooters go this route. I really hate the "lootershooter" style of games with bulletsponges
The devs think Destiny is gods gift to FPS, so that's where that is coming from. A real shame to see a seasoned developer fall so far from their roots that they get brainwashed into thinking Destiny movement and shooting is great.
@@datonkallandor8687 i haven't played destiny but I always thought it looked so stale and clunky. Obvious console shooter.
So I've played it a lot and I'm to a point with the two playable maps where the game is actually too easy and you can just go around clearing the whole map every time. The beginning is very hard and as you level up you get new enemies and stronger variants.
you can level up your guns with the tiers like you saw and they get unique traits and elements the starting hand cannon is one of my favorites
from what i've played it is a very good game and cant wait to see what they do to it, it is a small team of 12 devs but they are very active with this game and I cant wait for more.
The shooting looked very...Destiny-like. I love it.

honestly, based on your description, this game is making me think more of Hunt Showdown rather than tarkov. then again, i never played tarkov and only sporadically played Hunt. i will say that, yeah, this DOES look like a cool game. hope it releases with multiplayer.

Agree with the Red camara for waaayy too long, it kinda ruins the scenery.
They could put up the red screen for a second when you get hit BAD and are near death so to let you know you are about to croak, but as you run around with low health, just return the screen to normal. I already know i'm at low HP, I don't need a perpetual red filter over everything
i would say the red screen would be ok after a hit for about 1-2sec kinda represents the pains vom getting hit ... but i fully agree that it should not be als the time just because you missing hp
You comparing it to Destiny is making me want to grab it for sure, I loved the gunplay in Destiny 2, and I was pretty sad when they started sunsetting content (that we paid for). I'm liking the look and feel of the starter revolver already.

Cool aesthetic and I'm interested, but I'll wait for full release. There needs to be a secondary action that you can take like melee, throwing something, marking an enemy to take more damage, or empowering your gun or anything. I'm sure later you get some cool tools but starting with only 6 shots seems a bit boring.
