What would help you not be confused is just kitting up by the sticker order then organizing them at the end into the symbol order. You are using bottles-easy to sort later.
When I kit up I sort the packets in DMC order, then fill my containers and label. Then I arrange the containers by symbol, letters, numbers, “math” symbols, dots and circles, triangles, directional, and “odd balls.”
For me I arrange my drills by colour in rainbow order (if that makes sense) it makes it easier to find drills when working on the kit when you look in the area you have a specific colour so eg. Light blue colour symbol on the canvas you go to the blue drills section in the storage and match the symbol from there.
In my world, If it looks like a letter it goes with that letter. Even if it’s upside down. The teepee or x with the bottom filled in always goes with the x. Same goes for the slash with a smaller slash across it. Thats an x in my mind. Same for Upside down t etc. Keyboard symbols always go in the following order in my brain. +,-,=,%,#, . Then 1 dot, 2 dots 3 dots. It’s funny how our brains like to sort things. That funnel makes for awesome asmr sounds by the way.
Hitting pause. Fill your containers however it makes sense to you , then sort the filled bottles by numbers, symbols, etc. don’t try to do that while filling the bottles. It’s more efficient to arrange after the fact.
I do numbers, then alphabet, then keyboard symbols (in keyboard order) . . . Then shapes--squares, circles, etc; last i put all the leftover odd symbols: stars, hearts, etc.
Honestly I've tried different ways to kit up, but I go in legend order, which usually means DMC order. My brain works way better having the drills in the same order as the legend. I get twitchy when it's all out of number order 😂
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous I haven't done anything with more than 67 colours, so maybe a symbol system would work? But I'm still nuts and would kit up in number order😂🤣
When I kit up I go in numerical order as they appear on the stickers. 1 thru 64 or however many colors are in the particular painting. Boom I’m done. That works for me.
I know that for some people, the kitting up process is just part of their whole diamond painting experience, and they enjoy making it "complicated". I'm the type that just wants to get to painting, LOL! I have several different "sizes" of containers that I use - some have 28 boxes, some have 36, some 72, etc... every single one of my "storage/use" containers are numbered 1-x (depending how many boxes are in the main container. So if I'm doing a painting with 25 colors, I'll grab the box that has 28 containers in it. Then I just fill the containers with the drills in their number order on the legend. Period. No symbols, no DMC colors.... just numerical order. When I'm working the painting, let's say I come across a star symbol. So I look at the legend and it says the star is #7... so I pull out the container with the 7 on it. Generally speaking, it takes me about 10-15 minutes to kit up.
🤔 I'm new to this. But, I've done embroidery kits. The threads are usually just jumbled in together and you have to sort them out yourself. So, after I've done that and card them up. I tend to put the color number on one corner and the symbol on the other. Then box them according to the numbers. The charts have both for reference; so I'd first find the symbol on the chart, then the color number to find the card. To be honest; I have in the past, sorted and boxed kits, just to turn around and called myself done and gave away the kits.
I've tried sorting my bottles a few different ways, and personally I don't find it makes much of a difference, once I know where the colour I need is I just reach for that spot. As for kitting up, I just slap all of the labels on my bottle lids while they're in the organizer so they're in number order, then just grab a string of drills and go with whatever I pick up, I find it easier to grab an already labelled container for whatever colour drill I pick up. Extra bottles either go at the end, or I just store the excess in baggies and keep them in the top pocket until I need them if the kit has too many colours for extra bottles.
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous Absolutely, and it's really interesting to see how everyone else's brain works and how they approach it. Thanks for the great video!
I prefer the double size tic-tac bottles with a flip lid to the screw-top jars as I think they would drive me nuts after a while, having to screw/unscrew constantly. I label my containers in numeric order as stated on the key/legend (whatever you like to call it). Just makes logical sense for to me to do it this way.
I gotta give you credit, it all seems a bit hair pulling. I know I just started and still collecting colors and containers. But I just label the bags with a marker and if I already have a bottle with a particular color I just throw the new bag in the extra box and put a piece of masking with the symbol related to the canvas I'm working on. Just watching some kitting ups is too much for my tiny brain 😂
I generally do the kitting up in order of the packet train, then reorganize them into symbol order afterwards. /-# and approximately all count as mathematical symbols for me. I will happily reorganize which order the symbol groups go in, in order to avoid having groups split in to separate rows. You did well for first time when you have to think about what goes together.
Well, I just couldn't function setting up by symbol. I use the number system 1 through (however many colors in the kit). For example, 1 thru 59 on my current Jewel of the Sea by Hannah Lynn. I number my containers the someway 1 thru 59. If, for some reason, the drills won't all fit in the containers, I store them until I need them. Then, I take the sticker sheet and put in a clear notebook protector, and leave next to my painting . I look at the symbol on the painting and match up with the number on my sheet and get the numbered container. I'm not sure about my personality type, but I just know symbols would drive me crazy and I'm supposed to enjoy this process. I guess to each their own. 😊
I am the same way! Legend order! My brain needs everything to match so I can look for the drills much quicker. I have ADHD but I'm not sure that has anything to do with it😂
I use the legend numbers in order too. I have my containers already numbered 1 through whatever. I think it would break my brain to use symbols. I could probably go in DMC numbers if I had to
For a j wall the categories get a lot more specific because of how many more colors there are. I had additional categories for shapes, transportation, household items, people, weapons etc. It didn’t take me long to have the categories/the spot where the categories were located memorized and boy did that speed me up. Well worth the effort.
Do what is easiest for you and makes sense to the way you process information. Everyone is different in that regard and one system is not better than another. I agree with a lot of the other comments though, get the stuff in the containers just going down the list and then sort after the fact. I don't even think about it until everything is in a container. We are all creatures of habit though and muscle memory is strong, which is why it is so frustrating to do things differently. I commend you on effort to stretch your brain, it keeps us young. 🤪😀
I typically do letters, then numbers, then symbols when sorting. Symbology predates the keyboard so that doesn't even play into it in my mind. Haha! I don't care what order the symbols are in, because after awhile I know exactly where it is in the tray.
This is exactly why I try new things - I think so linearly sometimes and moving around to organize by symbol AFTER getting them into containers never even occurred to me. Thanks for watching!!
I kit up by the order on the chart. Then I arrange by numbers, alphabet, and then sort by color... Easier to find when seeing the symbol and what color it is.
I always kit up by symbol/vibes. I start with numbers then letter, then dots, then lines with dots then lines (straight then wavy) then bent lines (aka arrows or anchors or ) then whatever is left I just go from simplest to complicated
I either go in order of the sticker sheet, then put my EW in the try in the order I want, or I start with the first DMC I pick up, find ifs sticker and once again rearrange the bottles. I always work by symbol.
I always work by symbol as well, but I’ve just never kitted up that way. Although as people have pointed out, I could kit up by DMC as usual and then just rearrange the containers by symbol after. Thanks for watching!!
I fill my containers in the order on the sheet. When completed, I sort in the order I would like to work with, depends on how many containers. Usually letter, then numbers, then symbols. Since I label each container with the symbol and DMC number, dekitting is simple as you just arrange them in DMC order. I think you made this harder by picking the labels out of order.
I certainly get your OCD on the 797. I personally would have put an empty placer at the end of that row so that all the 797's were on the 3rd row. That is if you weren't able to squeeze in the others of the bottle before. LOL
