My goal when kitting up is always efficiency. I don’t want to ever have to look at the legend. Going by symbols is the best for that. The key thing is to memorize the symbol order you choose and try to stick to it across all kit ups. Numbers, letters, keyboard symbols in a certain order, dots, lines, dots with lines then geometric shapes in a certain memorized order, then arrows and miscellaneous shapes like stars, swirls etc. I stick to this and it works great for speed in finding the colors right from the beginning of a painting. I’ve seen this painting completed and it’s gonna be super pretty.
I kit according to the list and then rearrange my containers how I want them: #s first, alphabets next, misc I don’t care about so those typically stay how they are.
I like to clump anything that looks like an arrow together in addition to numbers and letters. Then I clump the rest in color families. It makes navigating my tray fast and easy. 😊
I kit up by numbers, letters then symbols in numerical order according to the chart. It’s a bonus if the chart is in this type of order. I paint by symbols and use Art dot containers. Bonus tip-hand gel is great for removing sticker residual from containers. I put some on a rag on it comes of easily.
I use tweezers to apply the stickers to the containers because I use a lot of hand lotion and the oils from my fingers make the corners of the stickers less sticky.
I use tweezers for the stickers because I feel the oil from my fingers takes away from the tackiness of the stickers. I’ve found that when I use tweezers to pick and place the stickers, they don’t roll up from the container as often.
I sort by color, especially in my Elizabeth Ward but what I do when I kit up is I put the ones I know are going to need the largest container in those containers first. Then I kit up all the smallest packets in the smallest containers and then continue on to the middle two sizes. I sort the colors after everything is kitted up.
I’ve always kitted up by DMC but recently kitted up my usual way then rearranged containers by numbers, letters, keyboard symbols then symbols by direction… upper triangle, lower triangle, etc. and it stuck. Saw triangle on canvas and without thinking, my hand was reaching for last row. The very last ones are “not sure what that is” type symbols so they hang out with their equally odd friends at the end :) I’ve only done 2 kit ups this way but like it. I might kit up by color if planned to add enhancements though. And they do look pretty in photos! Glamour shots✨
Yay, I love kitting up videos! I just find them even more satisfying than placing drills on a canvas, I guess 😊 And your voice and energy is so calming! I often re-watch your videos to round out the day before bed ❤ I myself kit up by symbol! It's become second nature to me, in which order they all come. Though importantly, I always do the kitting up in DMC order, then re-arrange according to symbol. I love organizing things, so adding extra steps to the kitting up & down parts is actually preferable to me, than being able to get going faster 😂🥰
I just finished this one ! Its so dreamy 🥰 with the Elizabeth ward I go by size of baggies and then within the row sizes I adjust by symbol (numbers at top then all the letters together and then symbols at the bottom bit odd I know) and then put the rest of the diamonds that might not fit into the container into separate mini plastic bags and put them in a ziplock bag that is labeled for the specific kit. If I notice I’m running out or low on a color I know I have a lot of use still for then I will glance in the bag and refill as I go, most of the time I don’t even end up needing the color refilled unless its a pretty big filler color.
I'd say most often when I'm kitting up, I start with the chain of drills that has the least in it and put them in the smallest Elizabeth Ward containers, moving to larger and larger containers as needed while I work my way through the drills in order of weight. Then, once all the containers are filled and labeled, I arrange them in color order, because I can't resist that beautiful gradient. XD I do sometimes kit up in DMC order, really just depending on how many colors there are. I find that a bit tedious if the kit has a lot of colors. But even if I kit up that way, I always arrange them in color order once I'm done, haha. This kit was the first DAC kit I ever ordered and completed! My second finish ever!
I enjoy your videos. I kit up by numbers 1 through (ending number). I label my containers the same way. I check the symbol on the painting and match with the corresponding container.
That's exactly what I do! That way I can leave the same numbers on my containers all the time and it's so much easier to find the color I'm looking for
I just kitted up a DAC in my Elizabeth Ward containers. I do not like how the stickers fit on on the smallest containers. The colors I had fit in to 2 boxes. I used the smallest containers as “filler” to keep the kitted diamonds from sliding around. I used to keep my drills in DMC order, but, find it easier to arrange according to symbol…..numbers, letters, math symbols, arrows, triangles, etc. I enjoy your videos!
I kit up according to the serial no/dmc simply bc I add a lot of enhancements and it’s easier to switch them out when in that order. I just put the enhancement in the originals container and leave the original drill out. If that makes sense. Then I reorder by symbol…numbers then letters then symbols.
The first few kits I did by symbol and number order , someone on Facebook had posted that they kit up as they work on each section, I am planing on doing that for my next kit
I kit up with symbols when possible so I never have to look at the grid and once I am done putting everything in containers of the appropriate size, I organize into color families. Then I can easily find the symbols I am looking for which helps a lot on working with DPs with a lot of colors.
I tend to do them in order of numbers, letters and then sybols that look similar and order them in grades of colour. I used to just do them DMC but found it hard remembering where everything was. PS - I need 1 of those pyramid funnels you're using. I have the same storage pots and find them a nightmare to fill with a standard collapsible funnel. All the best, Diane x
When I kit up with EW and DAC, I start with the tiniest containers first and the end of the train with the fewest drills, that way I maximize the container capacity. Then, I sort by symbols, etc.
I've only done one from DAC, but I did it by the numbers on the stickers. I have equally much space in every container so I think it's the perfect way so far
I would be very interested in the dealing with mica powder. Depending on the kit size, determines how I kit up. In super big kits, I do shapes & numbers. What is your current favorite drill trays to use & why? Thanks for sharing😊
I always kit up by the number and not by dmc or color. Its the number in the first column of your legend. Also, I rub down the containers and the trays with a fabric softener sheet and I cut tiny pcs of the dryer sheet and place in ea container. I shake it around and then the drills are not staticky (sp?)
I kit up in jst plain ole number order 1 to wht ever cause tht way I dnt need to change my containers for the nxt kit tht worked so well for me for the last 7 yrs 😀
I have never kit up by number, dmc or color. Not even by smallest amount of drills. I start out cutting the trains apart and if there's more than one bag for the same dmc I keep them together. They end up in a pile and then I start grabbing, I try and fit the color in the smallest EW container I have and go from there. Once I have the drills in the container that's when I put the sticker on. I fold the color number over the left side (opposite of the opening) and that way I only see the symbol and the dmc. If I have filled the conatiner and still have unopened bag of same dmc, I just keep it seperate until I need to refilll. Once I have them in the EW tray I sort them by number, letter, symbol (keeping similar symbols together.) There's no wrong way to kit up, it's whatever you feell comfortable doing. I try not to over think it and enjoy the process of taking a mess and making it organized and pretty. Oh, I also use the Gems Flow app and before I start I take a pic of the sticker sheet and put it in the projects section for each DP. If I get in a hurry and forget I just take a pic of the tray so I can see the symbols and DMC in the event down the line I need to refer to it.
I put the drills in order according to the legend. I start at 1 and just go in order. I diamond paint by symbol, but it's easier to find them if they're in order according to the legend. Of course the EW system can mess with that, so occasionally I kit up by colour😂 I dont even look at DMC numbers to be honest.
I have tried putting the kit up in number order and dmc numbers. Have to try to make it color coded. Do you have a link to the funnel, I have it from Bella art, but the one you use looks easier. Thanks in advance

That’s how I do it as well 😊
Number, then letters. But the remaining symbols I sort colorwise so it’s easier for me to find what I’m looking for.

I don't use containers. I have stackable trays and use washtape to write the number/letter or if come with the stickers. this just works for me.
Thanks for watching!!
I normally kit up by DMC numbers, and then depending on the symbol I tend to rearrange the diamonds

I kit up by letters (lower case then upper case), numbers, then the symbols.

I've been kitting up using the symbols but in the order they have it in the key list on the canvas

I’m strictly a DMC number gal. I just started my first DAC kit and SO disappointed by the amount of static-y drills. It took forever. ❤️🇨🇦
Static is an enjoyment killer for sure! Thanks for watching!!
I kit up in order of the drill in the chain then rearrange them all to be grouped in like symbols
