Obviously your videos are incredibly educational, but it’s your super goofiness that I love most.
I want more this type of videos best fusion teacher can't express in words
This was fantastic! I would love to see a follow up or another example where you actually have the voice over in fusion and are adjusting the key frames to the VO.
Doing all the key frames all at once and tweaking the timing ar the end is a vert good worflow i reckon. Thank you so much❤
The amount of tips and tricks is the thing I love about this workshops. There is so much value!!
I’m only 1/4 of the way through the video and I am already so thankful you made this video. Thank you so much for what you do!
I'm not a beginner to MGFX, nor Resolve from an Editor and Colorist perspective, I'm actually pretty seasoned in my career. But I never really dove deeply into Fusion.
If I sit and focus on the workflow, I can grasp the process fairly well, but there's something negatively visceral to my common understanding of how to think about building up assets in a given project in Fusion.
Prior to deeper thought on this subject, there was a friction point that turned me off to Fusion, and now I think I know why.
It's not a node workflow, I use and understand the concepts of nodes inside Maya, UE, emberGen, etc. I think in terms of Resolve/Fusion, it's the "merger" node. I don't understand why this is an explicit step in the process, when in the color page once you connect the output to the input of a proceeding serial (or other) node its already "merged" under the hood, without explicit input from the user. It just works logically. Also, why can't there be transform properties inherent in all node types? If you don't need to capture any translations on a particular node, just don't touch those properties. I feel like anything BMD can do to simplify and cleanup the process, so there isn't a gazillion nodes on your screen for things that should just employ basic logic (merge) and basic tools (transform) would make working in Fusion far more approachable to beginners and seasoned old twats, like myself.
I think in the meantime, I need to engross myself with getting more solidified with merging. Annoying.
HEY! Casey! You are a great mentor i look up to you always thanks for the information you provide
Amazing video that I've needed for so long. Thank you!
Please don't stop making such videos, you are the best teacher out there❤😊
Fantastic!
love your stuff
Awesome dude! Been watching all your motion GFX videos lately for ideas, glad you’ve got some new stuff!😍
Hey Casey that was super useful! I think using shapes will save time. Just on the issue of the polygon ends still showing when you reduce length to zero, if you change the border style to flat from rounded you won't have that problem. So saves some time of using other workarounds.
I'm a complete noob but just came across that issue before so thought it might be helpful!
I love your style Casey, just keep going mate
Learned a ton! Thank you😊
Thank you Casey.
This is very well done.
Learned alot from this tutorial 😋
Yooo motion graphics tutorial!!
Thank u casey :D
So great!
As valuable as ever. Thanks,
Thank you, very nice!
By using a MediaIn node you can get your audio into fusion
Awesome video - just what I was looking for! Thanks Casey.
Suggestion for a future video: Tips/Tricks for organizing your Node layouts so your fusion comp doesn't look like the flight path of every aircraft in N. America.
I don't like coffee, but I like your tutorials. Thank you! 👌🏻
You must’ve had a hard hard time following this tutorial with all that coffee in front of you

"Your video is absolutely great, and I have a question. At 14:11, there is an option 'keep' in style mode, but I don't have it in my DaVinci. Can you help me?"
Wait a minute... I'm supposed to leave a little room for the creamer while pouring the coffee? That explains why I always make such a mess pouring coffee. I have to try this! 😲
Hi Casey. This is super cool. Even chatgpt didn’t know at first how to add a shape!
Just a quick question. How do we make the shape a gradient color?
How lnog oes it take for a pro like yourself to create this in realtime as if you were editing for a client etc.
How are you doing the text on your shorts?
why colour of coffee rectangle is different in fusion page and edit page?
Hahah yeah I think it's a bug with the color management in this version I was recording with. Normally shouldn't do that. :)
Just because you can make this in fusion, doesn’t mean you should. After Effects would be infinitely more simple to make this on.
Great to know it’s possible though Casey!
But then you would be using PRemiere / AE ... and no one wants to do that. :p
Great helpful tutorial. thank you. i am doing this tutorial using 1.8(paid version) and i realize the differences between 1.8 and 1.9. i cant resize the rectangle on the fusion page. there is no option on boolean to choose "keep" 14:10. so i just change width and height. right now i wont upgrade because i dont want to miss 100 of great plugins
You can do all of it by using masks instead of shapes. Quickest way is to do all of it in Illustrator and import it as SVG or do it in Photoshop and import it as layer comp.
Casey in the star wars advanced course I don’t have the lightsaber still in my VFX bakes😢😢
It is awesome that you can do stuff like this in Resolve and the tutorial is great but I have to say seeing the complexity of this is the reason I'm sticking to adobe (for animation) right now. The sheer amount of nodes and knowledge about every single one of them you need to achive something rather simple like a coffee mug is bonkers. Maybe it's just old habits but I realy feel like doing this in after effects would be significantly faster and easier.
Nah nah
I actually agree with that
I've said time and time again that Resolve can do almost everything that you can do in AE but not as quick and easy as AE 🤷♂
I was like you as well but once you start working with nodes and it start clicking ... no more precomps of pre comps oif precomps ... I never want to go back to layer based compositing for ANYTHING ... vfx, mograph ... doesn't matter. While osme things ar e abit more difficult to do the FLEXIBILITY is insane.
Someone did an video explaining the limitations of layers in POremiere and how the order of operations is dictated by the underlying system and how that can cause issues and then requires pre comps.
It took me a whiule to get the hang of fusion but now I never want to work in anything else (well ... maybe nuke).
Just a question, if i want to create a planetarium or aquarium style where planets or fishes move around. What technique should i use?
Depends a lot of what you are trying to achieve. I was working on a video where the voice over was talking about how visitors to the site are used to how social media sites work on their phone and that the org needed to modernize. So for that I created a clip where each frame was a social media icon and then I fed that into a particle emitter and it would randomly spit out a social media icon that would move across the screen is a spray of icons.
I used a similar technique to do fake air cars in a 2d animated scene in the distance.
It really depends.
Does anyone know of anything totally free that’s like Artlist voiceovers?
Well Soundly has soemthign similar built into their FREE Digital Assett Management tool and you get a ton of free generations every day and it's pretty solid.
Somethign else you could do is record it yourself and then use a voice changer like Replay (it's free) to change your voice using a voice model.
I'm pretty sure Casey isn;t going to offer any suggestions because that might be agianst the terms of his sponsorship.
I do have to say I was really impressed with the Artlist AI voices.
👍👍
Hello, I am having a problem when I try to use MOV files, Davinci doesn't seem to register it as a file to use, I drag files toward the timeline or media pool and nothing happens, unlike with mp4. There's probably a very simple fix for this that I'm not aware of.
This doesn't stop me from being able to follow the video, just wanted to use the footage thats all.
There's a topic on this issue on the Blackmagic Design Forum: forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=197456
Notice you're running 19 - for a newbie would you recommend using the beta as I learn, or should I start in 18? Is 19 solid? Does it make existing tutorials "wrong" in big ways.
Thanks for an interesting video.
Although it's still in beta, 19 is quite solid.
Arent the normal mask themselves "Vector"?
The dog ate a WHOLE PIZZA? WHY, CASEY????
He wuz a hunry boi
Ur the best 🫶🏻
Can someone help me, I'm trying to make a cup right now, but i'm stuck on the "sBoolean>Style Mode" I'm trying to find "Keep" for one of my options, but my only option is "Replace". (On MacBook)
Hmmm weird. If it replaces it, just turn the style in boolean to brown then.
@@CaseyFaris 😱 you actually replied to me! I watch your videos all the time, you’re so cool and funny!
I will do just that, THANK YOU 🙏
