Thanks for including the practice media with your tutorial. It makes your video UNIQUE and the MOST EFFECTIVE tutorial on UA-cam. It's because from my experience, watching a video editing tutorial without practice footage is like reading a book. After that, I have the knowledge but I still can't edit videos on my own.
Hi sir, Sumit Shakya from India and following you regularly, i want to start Tech chennal you are requested to please make a video on tech editing video, thank you ❤
@CaseyFaris Is it cool if I use Matte_Paintings, TIE_Fighters, and Droid in the fan film I am working on?
@@BrandonFalkTheActor YES! Go for it!
@@CaseyFarisExcellent! Thank you so much!
Casey, I just fired it up and thought has anyone done a roundup of all the new features and how to use them, then saw you'd done exactly that 13mins ago... you are my effing hero today mate haha thanks!
And I was going to put a starwars fighter in a field as a test haha no way.
Good job Sam!
God bless you cassey for the thousands of us you help everyday with video editing. You are very important to this universe in ways you don't know.

Casey, I just wanted to say how awesome you are! I enjoy watching your Davinci Resolve tutorials so much! Thanks a lot for making them! All my Resolve knowledge is mostly from your videos!

Another great video. As expected. I am being directed by my wife right now to let you know that she has declared you the Bob Ross of DaVinci Resolve tutorials. Enjoy.
Awww that's so cool. Thank you!
Bob Ross of davinci, that's so cool.

What generosity on his part; moreover, he is one of the best Resolve trainers on UA-cam
Perfect timing as usual @CaseyFaris . We just recorded a Star Wars fan fiction on May 4th. and I'm working on editing it now. Thanks for putting this out!
Watched the whole thing, loved it and thanks for the practice footage it really helps🎉
Absolutely fantastic project! Thanks so much to both of you. I learned a lot and yes, I watch both the videos beginning to end.
Your voice is awsome. Soft and confident. This video isn't too long. Its a great tutorial showing off all the great new stuff in DR 19 and lots of great workflow tips.Thank you.

Gon watch this after the 4.5 hours of DaVinci resolve 18.6 guide (really helped with the color page)
I just don’t understand fusion very well so this could help
You always come out with these gems while I'm traveling - I can't wait to get home to run through this myself!
Thanks so much Casey for making this video! I just downloaded DR 19 public beta :) happy to learn about all these new features!!

Very informative, I love the deep dives into features of DR.
Thanks Casey. I'm going to love this and it's high time I utilised Davinci Resolve alongside Premiere Pro/After Effects ❤.
Casey you are an outstanding instructor. Thank you.

Great, I haven't the time to watch now, but will mark it. I have been trying DaVinici on and off for a few months, just can't seem to find the how to. Thanks
Thank You :)
I watched the whole thing! 🤙😅
thx a lot!!!
Hey Casey!
I finally had time to watch this and the prior video. Hokey smokes! Thank you for putting these together! I learned a lot! I would have loved to see the parts you skipped, but thank you for sharing what you did!
Question about what you did with the light sabre blades in 1:19:00+ ... Would it be possible to connect each end of the polygon mask to an Intelli Tracker of each end of a light sabre blade (on the end and near the handle) to save time?
Thank you for your helpful videos and thoughts, Casey! ☕🙂
Awesome videos Casey, aside from Da vinci resolve crash course. you and alex has one of the amazing beginner friendly tutorials. can you also make a tutorial about optimizing settings for free version like those random pop up message about cache/still/gallery needs to be updated and changing keyboard shortcuts but received a yellow tringle icon error and hotkeys are not working properly
Hi this video helped me so much😊!!! but can you make a video of how to make that clip that you skipped. Because I don't know how to animate the jedi lightsaber flying to his hand😭
God protect you :D :D Thank you Casey :)
Thank u as always casey u r the best on youtube but one things i believe in 4:39 custom is only in studio version
Someone tell me pls
Hi Casey, can I make a suggestion? A course for TV news video editors???
I’d love that too - have always wondered how Johnny Harris do all those typography effects
Curious, are you running DR19 beta full time or did you install in tandem with DR18? Any notes on stability so far?
May the 4th be with you
Thank you very much! I want to see the missing part, too, please!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know but.. I feel like after effects special effects like this look so much better. I don't know if its fusion or just if fusion is much more complicated and needs much much more work to get the more realistic look after effects can achieve. I remember watching Andrew Kramer tutorials on light sabers and similar effects from years ago and the effects just looked so much more realistic. I've always felt this way after seeing fusion special effects tutorials.
Just a heads up to any who are running the beta version of DVR under the beta version of MacOS - be prepared for some weird stuff. If you run across an instance when a command you think should work, or that you see Casey do, and it doesn't work for you - restart DVR and it will now work.
Awesome video as always Casey. I have a question not related tot the video. Do you know how to create tapered dashed line effect with offset in DaVinci Resolve? By offset I mean when length animated keyframe reach 1, dashed lines keep moving forward or backward depending on offset keyframes.
My major gripes with waveform editing in Resolve. 1. When you in and out a clip in the preview window - that section is not highlighted with a different colour or luminance like Premiere. 2 -the waveform at the top of the preview monitor isn't at all accurate with where the cursor is in the file. Sometimes it even displays a glitched waveform.
Thank you so much for the video! I figured id drop a comment to ask- if I have an a6700 in s log 3, how do I import that media to resolve? is there.a special thing I need to do first? Thanks for the epic vid!
Casey, I'm so stuck. I'm working through the part of the video where we're adding the mountains and the radar to the first shot. I feel like I'm following your steps exactly, but something seems to be off with the planar transform. The mountains and radar just fly away into the sky! They don't seem to stick to the trees as they should. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I can link to a video of what's happening if that helps, and I'm running 18.6, free version.
Casey, you helped so much in davinci resolve :) But can you make a video of the clip that you skipped. Because I don't How to animate the jedi's lightsaber flying to his hand (@_@)
New to your channel. Do you recommend starting with the older videos and moving forward? Wanting to learn how to make graphic, screen shot, image based videos rather than camera footage videos.
If someone signs up for you other classes is there a way to get one on one support?
Side bar question (no pressure)-- any good channels + instructors you know of who teach professional voice over, sound editing to add to videos?
Thank you! : )
Thanks for this fun May the 4th be with you activity. I'm 23 minutes into watching this when I realize this video is over 2 hours long. So im thinking, why am I hust laying in bed watching? What did Yoda once say? Was is "don't thin, do" ? Anyway I'll follow along...
Oh and those three dots ... I should thank Star Wars for that 😁 I use them all the time.
Casey... I do live streams of my editing... I'm guessing that all this content is streamer safe to use? For live streams? I already streamed the first part but did not add any music yet.
Yup all good to do so
Do you guys recommend this video or the 4 hours one ?!
the multipoly turning it on/off doesnt cut the background for me
Hi Casey. I don’t have a flash camera, certainly not one from BMD. Let’s assume I only have access to either an iPhone SE and an old Samsung digital camera. What Colour Management settings would I use for footage out of these? Thanks.
Is there a way to update the free version to 19 ?
"I've studied this kind of engine" Proceeds to color the wrong part in the wrong color 54:29
Hahah probably. That guy's a tool.
Good Job Sam, how can i use it in my insta reels
Casey,
I am going to take a shot and see if I get an answer...In Davini Resolve 19 Beta, are the particle systes and emitters working?
I use the Native PlugIns, BorisEfx, etc. particle emitters, but none functions...Can anyone get particles to work in Resolve 19 beta?
Have you played around with Google Earth Studio and Fusion? In GES you have the option of exporting 3D tracking-data along with your animation, but is this data of any use in Fusion? I have a fly-by animation that I would like to render some custom objects/text on, fixed to specific places on the map, and thought tracking data would be useful for this, but Fusion doesn't seem to understand or utilize the tracking data. The export options are either After Effetcs (.jsx) or (generic?) JSON (.json). Is it a limitation of the free version of Fusion or is it just how things are? Is there a plugin or conversion-tool to check out? I'd love to see you have a go at this...
@CaseyFaris do you have a version of this video that covers just the differences between Resolve 18 and Resolve 19? After spending 4+ hours watching your Resolve 18 full course, I want to just learn how to use the new features in Resolve 19. Thanks!
I don't, but Black Magic Design probably has a short explanation video or blurb somewhere on their website specifically about what's new/different.
@@CaseyFaris do you use any of the new features specifically in Resolve 19 in this course? Would I learn anything new about Resolve here that I didn't learn in your 4-hour Resolve 18 course?
Pls give us step by step video of that clip
Hey Casey, when I go to the edit page and reset, I do not get the source/timeline views? What am i doing wrong. I'm using 19 beta.
Thanks
How is this different from the crash course video from 3 weeks ago? This is confusing. Is this the same thing?
Hey please help me. I opened my clip on fusion and do all my work for that clip snd it took like 2hrs but it doesn't add in my main timeline. I know u r confused what i wrote but i created fusion clip but it doesnt add up into my main timeline. Helppppp
19 was working great, until this evening after a Windows update... Now it is really struggling...may have to go back to 18, Is any one else experiencing this?
Anyone help plz how to open fx3 dci 4k files as it only shows as audio file
I filled out the request and confirmed my Email but have not received any link to get the Files to try this project
Stupid camera! 😅 Epic!
I tried to get the media, did the usaul thing, Name and Email. Several hours later still waiting. Checked spam folder etc. Dodgy as.
I don't understand how are you adding those key frames
What happened at 51:06? The nodes change and get rearranged???
CaseyFaris, im creating a video where multiple scenes have combined cropped video clips on screen at the same time with movement, retime. I started in timeline (thinking i could shortcut) but i should have done fusion from the start. Is there a better method than using a fusion clip with 8 media sources w/ the keyframes stack and crop and transform and time warp nodes?
Is there a course of yours you recommend for this type of problem?
Hmmm... I'd probably start in the timeline and rough it out first, then bring the clips into fusion for more masking control. Tough job for sure.
@@CaseyFaris Well, at least i know there isn't a simpler method i'm missing. 🤣 Thanks for the reply!
Sooo... I changed the color mgmt to match yours
(Color science: YRGB color mgd. Color processing: Custom. Timeline color space: WG / Intermediate)
R-clicked on the two drone (DJI) stills in media pool & picked DJI D-Gamut / D-Log.
And whooaa it looks like willie wonka just painted my screen. Trees are fluorescent and buildings are bah-right! Any thoughts on if I'm doing something wrong?
DJI mavic 2 pro, 10-bit, D-log
Update: I just realized the settings are for the course. But why does picking these settings still make two aerial still shots look like cotton candy before dragging them onto the timeline?
That sounds like it's either the wrong color space or there are two corrections/transforms happening somehow.
Is Resolve 19 a free upgrade from version 18? I bought the Studio licence of 18 a couple of years ago and saw the advertising that implied updates were automatic and FREE as with Final Cut Pro (which was my previous preferred editing solution for many years). When i click the "Update" button in my Resolve 18 it tells me I am up to date. Thanks.
Beta version of 19 needs to be downloaded manually. When it comes out of beta, it will then appear in Resolve that an update is available.
@@tonyv3000 the clarification.
I'm following along, but stuck at the fusion step of adding the mountains and radar. I've rebuilt the node graph along with you 5 times and every time I'm getting the same issue. the mountain and radar plates aren't sticking to the trees with the planar transform. they're shifting in parallax. literally every setting is the same. what's going on?
Did you check the box that says "scale to input" on the planar transform?
@@CaseyFaris Yes. If I check it, nothing transforms correctly. If I uncheck it, I find a text node transforms correctly, but the radar and mountains still don't.
I got it working now, but I did still have to do the old 'merge over a background' trick. Shouldn't the tickbox have fixed that problem?
@@StuartHetzler Hi Stuart, could you please shortly explain the "merge over background" trick? I use V18.6 and I don't want to install the beta version of a program I don't master yet :-) Hence I would also need a workaround for the parallax problem.
@@cbou1980 Casey has a video on it, so just go watch that.

Oh... Haha yeah I think so! Great catch!!!
during tracking my mountains are not sticking to tracker but when i try it with text it only sticks when scale to source is unclicked can someone help me with this
I'm having the exact same issue here.
