    Awesome step by step video!! Thanks mate this has eased my anxiety to cracking this open. I can do engines and manual boxes but not autos.
    Thanks again.

    Same issue happens in the Evo 7’s, I’m watching this because I take my Evo to the track and hear many people warn me about the wave spring so I want to see what the function is and where it sits in the transmission in case something happens to mine

    Is this the same trans found in the Legnum VR4? I'm in the US and not many people are familiar with my Legnum VR4

    Hey I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse and as I was driving the car died and just wouldn’t drive anymore, it’s a gt so it’s a v6 and was wondering if it could be the wave spring that could of given out

      ii_SPARTAN_vil hard to know unless it is dismantled. If you drain the fluid and feel around the drain hole with a finger you can sometimes get pieces of the wave spring. I have read about pieces getting into the transmission fluid pump and destroy the pump, when that happens the computer shuts down the engine. I hope you can get it fixed, I'd love an eclipse.

    Is this the same as a mitsubishi eclipse? If so would it cause lack of acceleration

    • @gavsshed_7393
      @gavsshed_7393  6 років тому

      Nathan Gardner
      Hi Nathan. Not shure if it is the same, this is the F4A51 transmission 'found in diamontes, Magnas and Veradas from 2000 a 2004. The F5A51 has the same wave Spring. Both used with the V6 engines.
      Symptoms that I know of other people's experience is varied from poor changes, to suddenly not working at all. This one was acting like it was selecting two gears.
      My thought would be that the poor acceleration would need to be accompanied by hi revving for the gear its in.
      Love the look of the eclipses would be a great car.

      Quantum Flux 420 not good. They seem to be a good transmission once this is fixed. Also good to put an external oil cooler on in addition to the stock cooler.

    The wave spring had gone in my KL Verada with only 98,000 on it

      dean r. Not good, I have heard of them going at 75,000km. They were often repaired with another of the same spring. When they are repaired with a wave ring they will go for ages.

      GavsShed _ I had only had the car two weeks and decided to change the ATF as the car had a vibration due to the ATF not being charged in ages if ever, and yes bits of wave spring stuck to the sump plug, the box was still running ok so I had it repaired, cost me $1800 , the guy fitted a one piece stronger wave spring. Common fault, Mitsubishi should have fixed the problem, although I had a KH verada with over 300,000 ks on it and it was fine. Luck of the draw I guess.

      dean r apparently the earlier models pre-J models had a stronger spring and didn't suffer from this fate. I put the same in mine as your specialist did; replaced with a wave ring. And yes the parts are cheap; cost me $80 including freight. It's always the labor cost that gets expensive and as you can see this is a big and detailed job.

    • @Djr67

      It sure is a big job, not something I would attempt, there must be a lot of these cars ending up at the wreckers because of failed transmissions. Something that bugs me about my car is that it goes back to first gear without stopping, like if I slow down at an intersection but don't stop totally then touch the throttle it goes back to first , bugs me, I noticed when in tippy mode and slowing down I can see the it going back gears looking at the lights on the dash, when it gets to 3rd then skips 2nd altogether then goes to 1st, I wonder if this is normal for the 5 speed auto or can it be fixed? just wondering if you would know Gav? have you driven the 5 speed auto Magna/Verada's? I find the motors in these cars are noisy compared to the KR/KS Verada's

    • @gavsshed_7393
      @gavsshed_7393  6 років тому

      dean r . I haven't driven the 5 speed auto, only had the 4 speed auto's and 5 speed manual. The standard 4 speeds don't change the lights as they change gear. It does change down to first though eg slowing down at an intersection and then hitting the throttle,, but is is a kickdown in response to the throttle and some times with some annoying (still only short) lag time.
      Doing a manual conversion soonish.
