    I have an 01' GS300 and risilone quieted the engine. I didn't have ticks but its runs smoother with risilone. Marvel mystery oil works too. I love this lexus: 189500 miles and 20 yrs old still running like new. Man that tick was more like a grind, that would scare me

      Mine is just starting to have a slight lifter tick. When you added this, did you leave it in for the entire oil change interval, or did you run it for a while and then do another oil change?

    Knew an old mechanic (had his own shop) back in the 80s who swore by Rislone. He would use a 50/50 mix of Rislone/motor oil in the crankcase (wouldn't want to try his mix ratio with today's modern engines and their tight tolerances).

    For those who don't know, the type of oil you use in your engine has to be the thickness the manufacturer specified. Sure, you can put other types of oil in it, but on the long run it can damage your engine (especially v8 trucks or high performance engines). When you add these additives, you are altering the thickness of the oil, so after using the cleaner go ahead and do an oil change. If knocking continues, don't keep adding additives. Instead you need to get your lifters adjusted/replaced. If you increase the thickness of your oil, knocking will probably be reduced, but the engine can get damaged.

    • @TheBasstead1
      @TheBasstead1 5 років тому +18

      You are correct. The weight and viscosity of oils are determined by engine bearing tolerances, engine RPM, operating temps, etc... However, a froze lifter is eventually catastrophic. I propose Rislone should be used until the lifter frees up. Then change the oil.

      Yep, some idiot put 5W30 in my Zafira, Z18XE and it started to rattle on startup then I searched up what oil it uses and I got 10W40, OW40 and 5W40 as soon I put 10W40 the noise went away

      I have a 95 Isuzu pickup 4 cyl. It had a rod knock when i got it really bad so i started using 20w50 conventional with 30 - 35% lucas. It was a risk but the rod knock is completely gone when the oil is thick and consistently comes back every time I need to change the oil when it gets things out due to heat and stress. It might be erased but the way I saw it I wasn't going to get very many miles with a rod knock that bad before throwing something bad. I've had it for a year now and put 30k miles on it and it's running better than ever. It was also shifting kind of hard and not shifting in Reverse good, so I put 20 50 oil with about 25% Lucas in the transmission and it actually shifts a lot better now. If something gets destroyed then oh well but it's a 25 year old car I only paid 1200 for it

    • @josepeixoto3384

      You sure??!! the "thickness" of *any* oil varies wildly with TEMPERATURE,no point in being too precise there; the manuf. API classification (C for Compression,that means diesel, S for Spark,that means gas) is what needs to be followed; also, OLD engines need thicker oil, because the clearances have opened up; and DO NOT observe oil change intervals the manufs recommend; for instance,in Europe Renault says 30000 kms for most Dci engines (1.5 Dci,1.9 DCI..); DO NOT do that,you'll RUIN the engine, it's a CALAMITY ,millions of RUINED engines; CHANGE the oil every 8000 or 10000 Kms,tops,screw what the manuf says,he says that ONLY TO SATISFY THE CLIMATE GANG,damn them,EGRs and all that crap, they COST the pçanet DEARLY with their theories...i know i'm already paying thru the nose here in Eu-rape... everybody is...

    Had a 1979 Buick Electra 225 and it came with a bad lifter after 14,000 miles. I tried every available valve treatment, tried motor flushes, auto trans fluid, etc., and if you got a ticking valve lifter, you got an engine repair(very expensive) to replace the lifter. In fact, if you got to tear it down, replace all of them, cheap insurance, and buy the best you can afford! Or do what I did, gave the car to my wife in the divorce! Brahaha!

      If you run thicker oil in the winter you should have this happen less. You need to consult your manual to see which oil you can use.

    I just replaced bent valves on my 03 kia 1.8L now it sounds like a diesel engine lol I put all the lifters back in the spots they came out of but it has a small tick. Almost sounds like the injectors ticking but I think it's one of the lifters

    my car has lifter noise and today i went to a auto wash and some how when i shut it off to vacuum it and turned it on the noise was 3 times as loud could water have gotten into some where and made it worse so far the noise has stayed minimal like it always been but scared me good i read that in rare cases you have to replace the whole lifter but it seems everywhere they recommend oil additives i just replaced my engine oil like 3 or 4 days ago and the oil level is fine not sure what to do

    • @TWIRKNOLOVE
      @TWIRKNOLOVE 3 роки тому

      No, it's impossible for water to get inside. Are your rockers adjustable? Are they hydraulic lifters like this one? Make sure you are using the correct oil. Try this or another product and do an oil change right after.

    A mechanic that doesn't use a funnel! How long will this last? WillI have to keep adding it? Does this thicken the oil? How does this work?

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 5 років тому +3

      No it doesn't thicken the oil it has more detergents in it that will break down sludge tar & hard carbon that cloggs up lifter oiling holes ! Your supposed to drain out the same amount of oil first that the back of the bottle recommends then add back out of the bottle then just run the engine either idle or just above idle but do not drive for the time it says on the bottle ! I usually run it longer than the specific times they say just to make sure it gets circulated through good then if it stops ticking or not I drop oil & filter on it then actually drive it ! Also it's better to first run the car up to full operating temperatures then drain some oil then add back the appropriate amount of engine flush then run it at idle . ATF can be used as well usually 1 quart of ATF to 5 quarts of oil and you can actually drive it this way without harm but drive it easy no hard high rpm shifts just easy for a few miles then drain it out ! It's a old mechanics trick that often works very good because ATF has a very high amount of detergents in it compared to motor oil being automatic transmissions have many small ports oil veins & such that need a fluid that will not break down from heat & not clog up these ports check valves in the valve body of the transmission so that's why ATF has so much detergents in it compared to motor oil .

      It would actually slightly thin the oil. You add it once and let it work for anywhere from 1,000 miles to until you normally change your oil.

      I’ve been using Risilone for 50 years, as an additive to tired engines. It’s worth a try anytime you have higher pitched clicks that are rhythmic. Won’t fix a rod or main bearing knock... which have a deeper tone.
