    Awesome video. Thanks for this mate, about to do a removal and investigation into a box that decided to disengage itself from all forward and backward gears. Hopefully it's something obvious.

      Shane Stanford, would be good to find out if it is something obvious. The wave spring that fails in these is the low/reverse spring and I wonder if the spring has totally fallen to pieces or not much left if the low or reverse would refuse to engage.

      @@gavsshed_7393 yeh I seen your wavespring video, I have that on the list to inspect and replace. It was a instantaneous failure, driving fine, no issues, then under normal acceleration it disengaged drive, dropped into neutral never to select a gear again.

    Thinking of doing a manual conversion on my Magna one day. Just wanting to know what kind you got, so I can find the right one, or the one that marries up without too much mucking about making it fit.

      I used a 2001 executive as a donor car. This way I had access to all I needed including the box, cables, clutch lines, master cylinder, pedasl and all the stuff you don't think about. Great conversion though as it changes the whole car and experience.

    My 01 v6 Magna auto was running perfectly and just decided to stop driving can't select any gears? Funny tho, 5 days ago I went to drive out of the driveway and nothing... jiggled all the plugs from auto and cleaned them & it worked fine for 5 days now nothing? Great gearbox with no flare up during shifting. This manual conversion looks awesome. If it's not a solidod or control unit in my auto i may do this? Are cv's different?

      Sounds like the wave spring issue with your transmission. It would be very likely if you drained the fluid you would have short lengths, 15mm long, of wave spring.
      I bought an 02 model cheap once because the previous owner stopped at a roundabout, and when he went to go again he had no gears.
      The CV shaft on one side is shorter than the other by a few mm. I think it is the passenger side. I used both shafts from the passenger side.

      Thanks for the reply Gav! Today I got car on stands and wheels off and inner left guard panels off to see any wires I've missed which I haven't. I was revving engine on the stands and now I'm hearing something very small rattling about only when I rev the engine. So tomorrow I'll get the car level & drain fluid. I have had 6 Magnas and not 1 has left me on roadside until now. I still love Magnas

    You still can use the same computer? Just need to bypass the neutral switch? I have a mitsubishi diamante 2002 and it seems to be the exact same engine as this magna.

      Yes, same computer. just those bypasses, mine was great and a much livelier car. Much more fun to drive. The Diamente is the same car with export trim details.

    Can anyone tell me we’re about the filter is?

    • @gavsshed_7393
      @gavsshed_7393  Рік тому +1

      Hi Luke, the filter is inside the transmission. To change the filter you actually need to remove the trans from the vehicle and remove the bell housing. Apparently it only needs replacement when the trans is re-built.

    Hey man do you know how to do a 6g75 conversion?

    • @gavsshed_7393
      @gavsshed_7393  6 років тому

      I haven't done one and only read a bit on some forums. The engine apparently will bolt straight up however you need a lot of parts from the 74. Apparently you need to change the sump, intake manifold from the 75 needs modifying or the 74 one could be used I think. Not sure about distributer. I believe you can use the computer from the 74.
      I don't know much more as I haven't really looked too far into it.
