You guys keep mentioning Wayne's World I just never watch silly movies and I'm certain it's just a goofy movie. Is it really THAT GREAT??? I only watch serious movies. If people and cars aren't being blown up then I just get bored. Do I really need to watch this???
What did you previously say about Queen etc you are opening your ears so take a chance and open up to different (which Waynes world certainly is) but if you like things blowing up with music thats outstandingly funny try The Blues Brothers.

When you say serious movies, I assume you mean those that are not comedies, rather than ones that are not of high quality or not well-made. If you're not into comedies and you only watch movies with serious themes, then no you don't need to watch it, except for the scene with Bohemian Rhapsody. But if you ever change your mind about that, Wayne's World is a great representation of that kind of comedy. It's well written, and well performed by a wonderful cast, and lots of laughs. On the other hand, if you do like some comedies of a certain type, give us some examples and we may be able to steer you to others that you might like, like The Blues Brothers, that someone else already suggested.

@@stpnwlf9 He actually didn't finish his thesis (which he started in 1970) until 2006. When he did it earned him the title of Doctor in astrophysics. His subject was about zodiacal light, something that has been explained long since, but that doesn't matter. It's how the evidence is presented.

It is a joy seeing people discover Queen. I was lucky enough to see them in 1976 and 1977. I was so in love with Freddie as was everyone, male and female, in the audience. Massive catalogue. Dive in and enjoy.
I saw Queen in 1974 , they opened up for Mott The Hoople. Awesome Concert !!! I got to see Queen two more times before Freddie Passed away.
One of my greatest regrets in life is never seeing Queen live. Freddie was the GOAT - - I am still in love with him!

This is what happens when Freddie got access to a 24 track recorder with a mixer. He worked so long on this and his bandmates had to sing and play over and over untill he was done mixing it together like he imagined it.
That's why it took them 12 weeks to record it to Freddie's vision.

Agree, AC/DC is jock rock. No Rap may be the best of widely know tunes from the 20th century, though it is impossible to say one is best.
I grew up a queen fan, though my fave song is Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone, which was released in the 60s, though it is regarded as jazz, so will always be seen as neiche.
I think it is certainly arguable that this is the best? My counter-argument would be, what else?

A rhapsody is a single movement of music comprised of several different pieces of music that all follow a particular theme, generally without a chorus. Bohemian refers to being unconventional, in an artistic way. The rhapsody breaks down here as 1. the crime 2. the judgement and 3. the escape. Hence the conclusion of nothing really matters. What it all means, Freddie never said but there is lots of specualtion available about it. I prefer to take the Marilyn Manson approach on things like this where he said "Art is a question, not an answer." Good reaction, thank you.

I always interpreted it as the confession and turning himself in, the trial, defiance at the outcome of the trial and then acceptance of the verdict.

It's a rock opera about a murder trial. The opening, the accusation, the trial, the conclusion. They are all interwoven into one of the greatest rock songs ever written.

Queen - each wrote songs, each had hits. No matter who penned it, when Freddie sang it you thought it came from his heart. The thread btwn them was so tight you saw no seam. Your musical preference will find a niche in their catalogue - but don't limit yourself. They never did.
The best way to experience Freddie Mercury and the rest of Queen, is live. I was so glad I had the opportunity to see them at the height of their success. Freddie was even more dynamic in person. His voice is unmatched, and his command of the stage, indescribable. Queen never needed a bunch of lasers, or other stage props. Yes, they all performed this song. They did it a little different, but it was still excellent. When Freddie came on stage the energy shifted. He was simply captivating and dynamic. So glad a new generation is experiencing one of the greatest bands that ever existed. If anyone else saw them live, let me know. I don't want to be "showin' my age", all by myself. 😉😎

Imagine, if you will, that it is almost Christmas in 1975. Videos for songs barely existed and you see and hear this on TV for the first time. Is it any wonder that I have loved Queen ever since?

Yes, it is EPIC. I first heard this as a 14 year old back in 1975. My reaction was about the same. Thanks for doing this, it still sounds as fresh as it did 45 (!) years ago and to see you react to it really takes me back. I was lucky enough to see these guys 4 times (1977, 1980, 1981 and 1982) and the 1981 concert I attended was filmed and released as Queen Rock Montreal. To this day, that was the best concert I have ever seen in my life, and I've seen plenty. RIP Freddie.
By the way, if you can find the 5.1 mix of this, it is even more epic! Galileos coming from every corner of the room!
I get a kick out of stuff like this. I have been listening to Queen, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, the Eagles, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, and others for decades. And now you have younger people getting their first exposer to some of the greatest music of all time.
This song is embedded in every brits brain and not many of us tire of listening to it...everyone i know gives it full volly and sing along to it every ti me its played...a musical anthem

1-Freddy loved opera and he wanted to try to bring that love into his rock music. 2-this came out back in the day of the long-playing (LP) record /album. Part of that experience was just kicking back and listening and experiencing the music as it came at you. It didn't really matter if the track was 50 seconds or 20 minutes. Artists were able to play and experiment a lot more in that format.

The look of confusion and delight on his face at what he was hearing was so great. I don’t listen to much of today’s rock or pop but that same exact reaction of confusion and delight of young folks to 70s and 80s music seems common. They are surprised by and love all the “change ups”, as they call them. 70s and 80s songs have a tremendous amount of variation within them which I guess isn’t as common in today’s pop music.
It's just one song that is a work of art ... It's epic because this song is a mix of genre rock, hip pop, and Opera all rapped into this song ... this band Queen are masters of their craft ... I'm telling you Freddie Mercury as an absolute genius with this music ... there is lot more music from then you think and all of those will surprise you just like this one did ...

The record company vetoed the release of this song, but the band sent it to a DJ who played it, on-air, and the response was off the charts, popular. But when I listen to the lyrics, this song is a tragedy. The lead singer died of AIDS and this song was a declaration of transition to a new life. He had doubts, reluctance was evident in the song, his friends, said to the devils, let him go, and the devils replied "No", we will not let him go". It seems he started down a path, felt he should turn back, but said, I came this far, I will go on, despite the doubts. I think most people hear the music and ignore the words.

When this came out, I was a teenager. You're right - we had absolutely epic music in the '70s! When my daughter was born 13 years after this song was released, I made sure that she grew up hearing all of the best that the '60s and '70s had to offer. She's only in her early 30s, and now seems just as puzzled as I am as to why so many younger people don't know about the greatest music ever. 😉

From what I've heard, Freddie had initially written parts for 3 different songs but decided to put them together. You can clearly hear it, but it's also a part of what makes it so amazing.

By definition: "A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality." I think that says it all about the complexity and ingeniosity of this masterpiece !

i bought this on day of release in 1975, I was 11 years old. Im 57 now and both the track and promo video amazes me. There is so much treasure with regards to vintage music no matter what the genre is, so its great to see somebody discovering treasure of their own. You may be interested to know that Brian Mays guitar is completely home made and built when he was in his mid teens. The body of the guitar was a piece of wood salvaged from above the fireplace of his parents home. The pick ups were constructed from pieces of Meccano (similar to Erectaset ). The tremolo was created out of Panther motorcycle springs and the whammy bar was a knitting needle. He also plays his guitar with British Silver sixpence coins

I must have played this record thousands of times when I was in college when it came out. My poot apartment neighbors - they had to put up with it being played over and over again - while I worked on my art projects - that album played as I worked on my exhibits for the Spring Festivals - I won first place in every show that year - I owe all the inspiration to Queen - Freddy Mercury - what a creative force - amazing song - but I can hear the Beatles influence - the Beatles packed in the first Medly which was amazing also - and got a lot of playtime from me as well. Gee-whiz - I got to live through the greatest age of rock-pop music - and thought it would go on forever. Yet here we are - today it is hard to find new inventive music these days - oh well - such is life.

Thanks for the awesome Queen reaction. Queen was one of the greatest bands out there and was also pretty controversial back in the day. Freddie is one of the top vocalists to this day and Queen had SO MANY HITS. Highly recommend you check out their concert performance at Wimbly Stadium. A QUEEN moment in rock history people will never forget! ✌🏼❤️
You have a lot of misleading information, perhaps you got that information from the movie. Live Aid was for the famine crises in Ethiopia, it had nothing to with Aids. Wembley was in London, it was Queen's home base. They were always very popular in the UK, in fact they are more popular then The Beatles in the UK. They have the best selling album of all time in the UK. Even in their early days in 1976, they played for a crowd of 140k people at Hyde Park. Queen ar actually the best selling artist of all time in Europe, they were always popular in those regions, it was the American audience that did not always understand Queen.
Queen toured all around the world to large audiences, in Rio 1985, a few months before Live Aid they played to a crowd of 380k people. They had some of the biggest shows at the time. They held the record for the largest paying audience.
**Zenobia** I stand corrected for sure. WOW! I have been a Queen fan since I was 13 and did not realize these two main points that I was off about all this time. I know by that concert, they were down to only one more year of live concerts together and they most definitely stole the show for sure. As far as that concert location - you are most definitely correct. I did not purposely write that to mislead anyone for sure. I got that from an old interview with the band members about not wanting to do the concert after a bad time B4 but obviously - it was NOT their home base performance at Wembley concert .... I don’t know why I didn’t catch that. I’m chuckling at myself right now really - as it’s no wonder why the crowd loved the band SO MUCH at that concert. I’ve gone back to watch this one concert over the years many times having not realized this was NOT that concert they didn’t want to perform at. Appreciate the info and enlightenment after all these years.

Wayne’s World is an iconic representation of the 80’s rock era. Even if you don’t watch the whole movie, I’m sure you can find the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ scene and watch that. It’s well worth it.

When Freddie came up with the idea for this concept I believe he wanted to create something close to a Rock Opera. My word did he succeed. Been listening to this since 1975

A rhapsody is a mixture of music in one piece. In Queen's wonderful song you experience all the reactions possible, peace, sadness, excitement, ad infinitum. It is a work of art.

Thank who or whatever you believe in for Kenny Everett. The record company wanted to cut the song down to 3 mins. Kenny, a radio host at the time, played it again and again in its entirety, and it became so popular they had to release it as recorded.

Probably the only time a rock star got this close to the madness and genius of someone like Mozart was Freddie with this song. I could see Mozart making this kind of music had he been born 200 years later.

It is a story written as an opera, the opera section is actually a trial for the person's soul between heaven and hell. I mean yeah it's been background noise a few times in my life, I remember the Galileo! Galileo! part, probably was on while playing pool and drinking at the bar, but no I never just sat down and listened to it.

Scaramouche is historically a villainous clown, with Figaro, Beelzebub and Bismillah appearing in opera as rival factions fighting over the narrator's soul. Bohemian Rhapsody can be listened to as the story of a man about to be executed for murder, or as allegory for coming out as gay and "killing" the man his religious community expected.

I would replace those names w Led Zeppelin & AC/DC ( I say this in jest, I do not judge another’s musical favs) but yes I agree on pausing epic songs. You must take it in fully your very first time then react. But I’ve learned sometimes you tubers are trying to keep their vids from being removed by pausing a few times. He was great though wasn’t he? His astonishment ? I love seeing others experience this song. It’s mesmerizing
