This is a song when you realize you got the girl. Yep
My sophomore year in 1988 my girlfriend wore a red dress to our turnabout dance...I went to the DJ and requested him to play this song...which he did...she was the only girl wearing red ...we slow danced in the middle of gym floor felt like everyone was looking at us...I did good that night
Damn, you must have felt like a king dancing with his queen
Yes, you sure did!
Married 27 years and every time I hear this song I get broken up, because I feel so lucky to be with such an amazing, strong, competent and, yes, beautiful woman who could have been with anyone but chose me! When I look at her, I still see and feel that glow exactly as you described! (Not that it really matters, but I’m a white man married to a black woman; her beauty attracted me, but I married her “for the content of her character.”) ❤️✌🏻✌🏻❤️
Sir, LOVE knows no color! AND, when you’re in love, truly in love, you see no one else but that person. You both are very fortunate to have found AND kept each other for all these years. CONGRATULATIONS!
I hope and pray that someone looks at you that way someday, young lady. God Bless...
The story is that Chris wrote this for his wife after seeing her across the room at a party and he was blown away by how she looked, I knew you'd get emotional with this one
MTV or whoever had the one hit wonders the lady narrating it said that explain it that he saw this strange lady across the dimly-lit room, he only made out the red dress but from the distance he didn't recognize her but she was beautiful from that distance and he wanted to meet her and it turned out to be his wife. And they were separated at the time going through difficulties so yeah this is the song for his babe in red.
It's not about his wife, and it also came when news broke that he had an affair with the nanny, while his wife was recovering from a serious back injury from a fall from a horse,
The fact that you can be driven to the point of tears over romance, whoever gets you is a lucky boy.
De Burgh also had a Top 40 hit in 1982 ("Don't Pay The Ferryman", which peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year).
Love Ferryman
Was the best song of Chris IMHO, Don't pay the Ferryman.
Ferryman is a great song !
I’m an 80’s kid, avid early MTV viewer and precocious Billboard mag junkie. Much to my surprise, I don’t recall DPTF (just watched its official music video). Thanks for the enlightenment, if you will. 😎✌🏽
"A Spaceman Came Travelling" too!
Sad that the world is devoid of songs like this today.
Something what was normal during 80s and 90s today is creepy and that's very sad 😢😢
You are a genuine and sincere beauty yourself. This song always gets to me a 64 year old classic music fan. I enjoy listening tp you and you keep rocking.
Great and unforgettable song.
LOVE this one.
The first time I heard this song was at my 8th grade graduation dance in June 1987. Brings back memories. This girl asked me to dance when this song came on. I still remember her face.
Don't watch many "reaction videos" but watch Angela's. Really like her honest and vulnerable responses on the love song videos. She seems to have a really beautiful heart and maybe even an "old soul." Good job!
Well stated (and largely true with me too). Angela seems like a genuinely good egg, and I always loved this VERY underrated love song.
Great choice Angela
While "The Lady in Red" was by far his most successful single (especially in the United States), Chris DeBurgh has 15 albums that are either certified gold or platinum (not counting live or compilation albums) as well as 42 charting singles (20 of them top 20) over a span of 47 years.
This song was played on our wedding day in 1989, all the bridesmaids wore red, and we are still married today. Thanks for playing this beautiful song.
👍
What about the lady in white?
I love this song. It's a shame that he isn't better known here in the US. He has a much deeper catalogue. The entire Spanish Train album is worth a listen, but the title track is amazing.
From the same album as this song, you really should listen to "For Rosanna," which he wrote for his daughter. You will love it.
I absolutely love this song! Always have!❤❤
I always thought this was an extremely romantic and beautiful serenade to his lady when I first heard it as a hit in 1987.
love QLD Australia thank you so much for your reaction,,
SUCH a romantic song.
🇨🇦 My girl from across the room ! We have been together now for 51 years !
CONGRATULATIONS!❤
You are so cute☺️. I can see your reaction is so genuine, and this song is one of, if not my favorite love song, absolutely gorgeous.
Regards from Chile🇨🇱😄
That was such a nice reaction…The words in the song are perfect.
and thats the power of music back then =)
One of the perfect love songs
The first time I heard this song, I'd only recently just met my future wife and I had a picture of her in a red dress looking absolutely stunning! That was 36 years ago and she is still absolutely gorgeous to this day!
Chris had a lot of great tunes. 'Don't Pay The Ferryman', 'Just Another Poor Boy', 'Patricia The Stripper', 'A Spaceman Came Travelling', 'Spanish Train' and 'The Traveller' are all excellent songs. Cheers.
I went to alot of singles dances in the 80s and 90s ....this song was big and was played every time.. and many of the ladies wore red I think in anticipation.. and the guys were aware of who truly wanted to dance 💃.
I would even go as far to say that this , for awhile, was the most romantic song to dance to because it was sung in such a meaningful sensitive way. Chris had the perfect voice for this song.
merci pour ce choix , c'est magique!!...
One of those songs that really hit me even as a kid who knew nothing at all about this kinda love. It stays with you, and I drop everything to listen to it even now. Great reaction.
Everybody has felt that when they listened to this song, especially if they can recall an actual time and place where that was them.
He had a minor, fun hit awhile back with a song called "Patricia the Stripper" if you want a change of pace.
I first heard this song on the soap opera "Days of Our Lives". Loved it.
Spot on!!!! Every time I quietly observe my wife go about life I realise how captivating she is and how lucky I am.........
WOW! You just made me cry! Thank you for being a true man and a good husband! Your wife is a very fortunate lady! P.S. Do you have a brother around 60 by any chance, that is single and has your qualities? lol!!
Not a lot of songs conjure up the feeling of contentment and happiness like this one does. Someone should be singing this for you girl.
This is exactly why I absolutely love your channel!! Hearing and feeling your emotion is beautiful! You're a beautiful soul!!
First, thank you for not constantly pausing. This is one of a handful of songs that immediately come to mind, when I think about a man expressing to his woman how much he loves her. This song always makes me cry and you can see why. I interpret this song as he has always known his wife, but tonight on this night of a party or dance or something, he "sees" her for the first time and his eyes have finally realized her beauty that has always been there, underappreciated. When he says there's nobody here he isn't literal he is saying that of everyone at this dance/party no one else matters and he is so captivated by her vision that it is all he can see and now, he can appreciate their love. And the hushed "i love you" at the end.... always gets me.
One of my favs
Why do I cry when I here these songs? Oh yeah! I miss the 80s
He wrote this specifically for his own 'lady in red', his wife!
They also topped off their love story, by producing a 'Miss World' winning daughter!!
What a wonderful way for him to serenade his wife, always loved this song!!
It never fails to amaze me how a country with just 4million people creates so many amazing songs across so many genres.
I am interested in this song again. In the 1980’s, this song was wayyyy overplayed. Your reactions remind me of how we songwriters magically connect with our listeners
Imagine having that impact on another person. Must be special.
One of my moms favorite songs and every time I hear it it reminds me of her. Rip Mom ,I Love You.
Chris De Burgh has a fabulous catalogue of songs and lyrics
His song "High On Emotion" is a wonderful song too
This was my wife's favourite song.
Angela is gorgeous regardless of what color she's wearing.
You are right Angela as he wrote it for his wife..imagine having a song like this written for you..those lyrics are just ppem mouthed awe..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏👏👍🎵🎶💿
I am responding to your last comment As I mentioned a long time ago, I watch all your videos because you are so sincere and charming! I respect your opinions and reactions, even though you know I don't always agree with you, but nothing is 100% perfect!
I hope you keep going for a long time because I really look forward to watching your content! I enjoy leaving comments and reacting also, as I also enjoy reading your subs opinions! It"s a community I feel part of, and that's really special to me! I don't know what else I can add!
Take care always and have a great one! ❤🎉🎉❤
My dear i hope that you also you have a beautiful soul in your life, because you are so kindness and good woman
been married for 32 years and this is my favorite song ! You are correct.
I remember having a few slow dances to this back in the day. Loving your reactions to some classic songs.
This "one hit wonder" is worth more than all of todays' music combined.
so true to that
The way you described the imagery in your head listening to that is why I had issues with MTV when it came out. I always liked how great music took you on a journey in your mind. It was also interesting to talk to friends about songs and find that their image of the song was completely different as people will usually match songs to things in their own lives making the songs personal to everyone. I felt like the videos were telling you what to think (badly). I still kind of feel that way although I do admit there are some videos that were well done (Take On Me). Anyway, have a great weekend to anyone who read this far. lol.
One of irelands best romantic singers
I never heard him interviewed so just assumed he was American. Had no idea he was Irish. And pardon my ignorance but de Burgh I would’ve pegged for Dutch. Thanks for sharing! ✌🏽
Your so awesome , great reaction!
You never seen your shine so bright
Chris De Burgh is better known for an earlier hit “Don’t Pay the Ferryman” which only (surprisingly to me) reached #34 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1982. You really should react to this song if you haven’t already. And yes, Lady In Red was a very sweet song, very beautifully done by CDB. I had actually forgotten about this, so I am glad that you reacted to it. Thank you. I loved your reaction as well.
No, that is not correct at all. You cannot assume that America top lists reflects the opinion of the rest of the world. "Lady in Red" will forever be the song connected to Chris de Burgh.
@@Vinterfrid I never said that how CDB ranked for that song reflected how well it did worldwide. For instance in Australia “Don’t Pay The Ferryman” made it up to #9. I did use the Billboard ranking since that was the chart ranking that Angela was using. And for me, Don’t Pay The Ferryman was the song that I thought of first. Agree with me or not, I don’t really care. This is my opinion.
@@Vinterfrid I’m an American and I’ve never heard of the other song he mentioned. Lady is Red is Chris’ best known song in America too. For him, Chris is better known for that other song, but not for anyone else!
@@bigk4755 Correct - that is your opinion which you're of course entitled to have. However, you wrote that "De Burgh is better known for an earlier hit ..."I just replied that it is not correct. Agree?
@@Vinterfrid Chris De Burgh’s first album to chart was 1982’s The Getaway from which “Don’t Pay the Ferryman” came from. This album topped at #30 in the UK #43 on the US Billboard charts, and that song topped Billboard at #34. Probably responsible for this song’s success was the video that got quite a bit of airplay on MTV, which was a factor in how well known that song was at the time. While Chris had released 5-6 albums previous to this album and song, it was the popularity of the song Don’t Pay The Ferryman along with the accompanying video on MTV that first made Chris more of a household name, and led fans to dig up his previously recorded music. Several of his previous albums did chart after his breakout song and album charting fairly well, both here in the states and overseas as well.
CDB’s song “Lady in Red” came out in 1986 (4 years later) on the album Into The Light. While the song got to #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 here in the US, it hit #1 in 25 different countries. The album peaked at #25 here in the states and #2 in the UK.
While Lady In Red did better in chart placements, his first song to become widely known in the US, and basically around the world was Don’t Pay The Ferryman; and that to me is the song that I think of first when I think of Chris De Burgh’s music. You can justify your beliefs anyway that you want, but actual history and timeline speaks a slightly different story. And apparently for my memories I am a little biased towards that song that first broke CDB out as a known artist. If you didn’t hear about him for several more years then it sounds like you were late to the party.
This was such a beautiful song heart felt the music is deep 😊
Beautiful song
ANGELA! This is why I REALLY Enjoy listening to these Great Songs with you! You Not Only Feel these Tunes🎶, but also Understand them So Well. In the Case of this Song , you Taught me about what the Lyrics were saying. I mean I've always thought this was a BEAUTIFUL Song! But Thanks to You, I can now Appreciate it Better! Thanks! I Look forward to enjoying More Great Music 🎵 with You! ✌️
Brillant song ❤❤
My favourite song.
I remember when this first song came out by Chris de Burgh this is a song that all men should think about a woman that's in their life it's about her grace her charm and her beauty
Beautiful song, big hit all around the world ❤
That song is so beautiful. It's a timeless ballad. I can see how you can get emotional , Angela. Check out his other top 40 hit "Don't Pay the Ferryman". It's a great tune as well.
The second verse is a doozy. I want to sing this for my wife at our wedding but even alone practicing, I choke up at how beautifully the song describes my feelings
Just sing it, her and the ladies will be crying because that is such a touchingly, beautiful song! CONGRATULATIONS! ♥️
first of , can you sing at all ? get a third party to confirm it , lol
@@sdqsdq6274 my wife confirms, so it must be true or she really likes me 😂
*Angela* You too? OMG this was emotionally Beautiful..The Sentiment bout the feeling between him the lady in red...Just Deeply touched me ..Yeah,I`m empathetic.. but the way this was sung, and what he sang..touched me deeply....Cried,yes..But I guess I`m one big softy... :D........
Between this and "Angel Eyes" by Jeff Healy, the emotions are flowing with you Angela. You're very beautiful letting us witness your journey as you experience these songs for the first time. Keep up the good work, cutie! :)
This was me and my wife's slow song when we first started dating. We have slow danced to this song for 29yrs just celebrated our 29th anniversary April 23rd 2023 thanks for reacting to this song, the way you did.😊
Congratulations. I hope you have at least 29 more!
Tear up every time I hear this song. First met woman I marritd she was wearing ared dress with white polka dots (she told me it was pink but Im oartially color blind and to me it was red) I was thunder struck. We were happily married 24 years before she passed away I song to her quite often Now I cant sing because I get choked up so badly Thank you for reaction
Dayum. Y’all got shawty in her feelin’s up in here??
In jest, y’all, in jest! 😂 I really enjoyed this May theme and did the most on the announcement video last month (no one posted more suggestions than yours truly 🤓). Looking forward to upcoming reactions. And themes. 😁
Appreciate what you do here, baby girl! 🙌🏽
This song and Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" have almost identical themes and sentiments.
EXACTLY! It is about a man finally “ seeing and appreciating” his lady!
Thank you! I thought I was the only woman who caught on to, not just the true meaning behind both songs but that both men chose to sing one and both songs were huge hits! “Unchained Melody” is my # 1 fav song, # 2. Wonderful tonight #3 Lady(Kenny Rogers) # 4. Lady in Red! I know, hopeless romantic!
I’ve noticed that a lot of comments are saying that Chris De Burgh was better known from his song Don’t Pay the Ferryman. I personally like ‘Ferryman better, but this song is his legacy. I’ve worked 2 decades as a mobile DJ, played well over 1,000 gigs. Lady in Red, decades after it came out, was requested enough that we always kept it in our rotation. I’ve never had a request for Ferryman.
This song was later used in the move pretty woman, if I recall correctly.
Admiring the beauty of a woman is always called for.
This song will always be special to me for very personal reasons! I actually wept while listening to it! Music is so powerful and enigmatic! Bye!
Ditto!
Beautiful story from a beautiful soul. Listening to this song through the windows to your soul was as if I was hearing it for the first time. Your reactions are always heartfelt and the love sent is sent in return a million times more!
Love it. I played this on the jukebox a thousand times. Great reaction you softie.
Another great reaction from you Angela. I don't normally comment on reaction videos but you have an honesty about you that is really refreshing. Another great song from Chris De Burgh that was high in the charts, especially her in the UK and in Europe was A Space Man Came Traveling. There is a video of it made with Lego characters which is quite cute. I would like to hear your reaction to it if you haven't already seen it. Best wishes from the uk 😊
Such a wonderful heart warming reaction, Angela thank you. X
Damn. This brings back sweet memories of dancing to the song.
Yes l felt it too back in 1986 when this song first came out and l just felt again now and every time I hear this song in1986 that is the year me and my wife met ❤she was 19 and beautiful I was 22 the Memories!
Chris also has a song called don’t pay the ferry man if you want to check it out. Both songs are great 🎉
Big Hit!!! Full Dance Floors and of course BABY MAKING MUSIC!!!!
Didn’t realize that the pop genre also used the term “baby making music” which was synonymous with 90’s R&B slow jams. Interesting.
A classic !!!
One of my all time favorite songs...Thanks for reacting.
You just described exactly 💯 what I'm still looking for 😊 thank you... Love your channel ❤
This song deserved a part 2 .... and yes she wore RED and drove me crazyyyyy !!!!
Thank you for this and I do love this song because it is about his wife when they were split up and he accidentally ran across her at a party unbeknownst to him she was dressed in red and he was admiring her not knowing that it was his wife in the dimly-lit Dance Floor room. He wanted to meet the strange lady because she was beautiful just the way she walked just like you mentioned described her . Then he realized it was his wife. And onto the song he wrote for her.
Great song.
Wow, that really touched you deep! It was nice to see a genuine reaction.
Here is a Scottish band called TEXAS and there song ( I Don't Want A Lover ) from 1989
This song was in the (1984 ) Lady Red Film 🎥 Soundtrack. Gene Wilder and Kelly LeBrock.
possibly thousands of marriages around the world met or are part of their life this song, especially in school times.
It is a beautiful song and it makes me stop and think that love is the most potent overwhelming intoxicating euphoric natural feeling that any human being could ever feel. It also leaves me slighly less animated than Angela God bless her but it is an unforgettable love song connects to the heart and to why we in my opinion are all here for .. LOVE
Good reaction, you are beautiful ❤️
Love this song!! It’s been sooo long!! Thanks Angela! 😊
Amazing song! Never gets old!
This always reminds me of my 8th grade science teacher, it was her favorite song back in the day.
