    I can't wait for Covid to be lifted. This will be one of the first things I purchase when I get an income again!
    Thank you so much for making this course in advance. Looking forward to it!

    Hey @Follygon! I just bought your course in Lighting and Rendering, and it's awesome! I wanted to ask you, by how much % do you usually decimate the model? Is the 20% by default enought?

    • @Follygon
      @Follygon  Рік тому +1

      Hey, glad you’re enjoying it! I decimate my geo as low as possible without losing detail.
      If the surface starts becoming too faceted I will go higher. This also depends how many polys your rendering engine can handle. Blender does a decent job but it can’t handle too much. Importing anything over a million polys for example is going to take more time than I am willing to wait. It’s better to split it or go lower.

    @Follygon - Just purchased this course - I'm wondering what are the specs of your machine? The renders seem very fast. Thanks and can't wait to get started!

      At the time of making that tutorial I was doing CPU renders which are very slow. Through the magic of editing though I most likely sped it up quite a lot. No need to sit and watch a render.

    You should do a collab with Danica Sills!! I think her art style would work amazingly with your 2D to 3D series of videos!!
    Love the content

    I didn’t think the price was to bad. I plan to get as soon as I can. It seems very detailed and well explained.

    I was all set to buy this on gumroad, then saw you have to import models from Zbrush, you are only shown how to do lighting and rendering in cycles(what about Evee?), and it has a final compositing step in Photoshop. I understand this is the workflow for many, but when you say Lighting and Rendering in Blender I'm not thinking 2 other pieces of software and only half of the render engines in Blender to boot.

    • @Follygon
      @Follygon  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Kelly, you do not NEED to import models from ZBrush. But I do explain how. In particular, how to import models with textures or polypaint. Something many have asked me how to do here on my channel.
      You do not need to composite in Photoshop either. Everything I show is transferable to other software. The lighting techniques used in Cycles work the same and can be reproduce in Evee. Everything I teach and explain about lighting is agnostic and applicable to every software/ rendering engine and even lighting in real life.
      The steps shown for ZBrush and Photoshop and additional lectures added on top of the lighting instruction are parts of my particular workflow. Something my audience here has been asking me to create for a long time.
      If my specific process is not something you are interested in, no worries. I hope that you can find something better suited for what you want to learn!

      @@kellyjohnson768 lighting and rendering in eevee is pretty much identical, with SID addon (its free) you can render cycles with low samples and get great images, so not much point in eevee

    Hey Folly I love your stuff but $60 for a lighting a rendering tutorial?? There's a ton of alternatives on gumroad that include modeling and texturing for a fraction of your price..

    • @Follygon
      @Follygon  4 роки тому +4

      Hey, thanks for your feedback! I currently have the course priced as low as possible for how much time I put into creating the content.
      This is a high quality course that explains everything in my rendering process while also teaching the fundamentals of lighting. I have many people interested in my exact workflow/ process and it's why I have created this course.
      It's also included within the Appeal Academy and newly launched Appeal Academy: Light for all members completely for free. You can learn more about that here if interested: appeal.academy

      @@Follygon oh cool so you mean for the low low price of $800 I can also get the lighting and rendering course too!
      Seriously tho, I really do love your work and the time you put into making videos and being an educator isn't lost on me. I do look forward to the day you might have a sale but I'll probably never comfortably be in a position to sign up for that. Especially when programs like Zbrush cost just as much if not more.

    • @Follygon
      @Follygon  4 роки тому +3

      @@AB-kb5zo Although you're being sarcastic about the price, yes.
      For the amount of time I put into each student in hours alone for personal mentorship videos, not including the lectures, continually updated bonus lectures, great community, quick start guide, lighting course, free updates for life, and much much more, the current price tag on the Appeal Academy is extremely generous. You can ask any of my students. You will not find another course that offers even close to this value for this price, college courses included.
      But if it's not for you, no worries. I genuinely hope that you can find something that suits your needs for your budget.

      @@AB-kb5zo Your expectation and view of the reality of the cost of good learning is way off the mark. My dorm costs alone were more than Zbrush in art school and I've learned more from Folly in a year than I did from any teacher in 4.
      As you said yourself, there are cheaper alternatives so just go with those.
