As a senior I hate to take apart a fridge and clean it so I got myself into the habit of wiping it out every time before I went to the grocery store. It helps me to see what I need to use up or buy and make a list. When I put my groceries away I put the new in the back of the cupboards and if I see anything that needs to be used up quickly I put it out on the counter. We are trying for zero food waste and we are pretty close. It did take a long time to get to this though.
Yes! I clean out once I start scrounging around for the last remnants and 'can't find food', then it's time to clean and clear and do some shopping to fill it up again! These days I actually eat most of the salad I buy!
I do this same thing - clean out the fridge on grocery day (Fridays for me). Any leftovers we haven't eaten, any random things that need to be gone, anything that's expired/on the brink (most often that's stuff like buttermilk or half & half that I only buy for cooking and don't use the whole container). Good advice!

Great going Mira! I find that kitchen and bathroom are such important motivational rooms to have clear and clean in my home. When they are clean it makes me want to tidy up in other areas of my home too. I gauge my mental health levels by how clean, dirty or cluttered my kitchen and bathroom are.

You can use some of the old cardboard packaging to corral things like the razor blades and bar soaps so they don't fall off the shelves or look messy :-) The skin care I would place standing up in an open container (or repurposed cardboard box) so you see what you have and have easy access to them. The container with drawers is ideal for things like hair clips (and multiples of items like the razor blades) that you can just grab. Great job, you're making so much progress in discarding things you won't use anymore!
Love a good fridge clean out! I just did mine yesterday. It's something I hate doing (especially seeing wasted food, I'm terrible in the kitchen in all aspects and trying to get better as well) but it always feels so awesome. I try to clean mine out whenever I know groceries are on the way (I get grocery delivery, or you could do it before shopping) just to try to keep more on top of it. Re the fridge - now when I take out the trash I look in the fridge for anything gone bad and dump it in the bag. I don’t worry about checking everything, just a quick forage. Sometimes I notice a condiment bottle that’s been there awhile (sometimes unused!) and check the date and dump it out :)

It feels like a whole chapter of our lives has closed. We got our new puppy 2 days ago, so sad they didn't meet, as we chose and paid for the new baby a while ago, but our furever angels will always be with us xxx
I have a struggle with my fridge food. Veggies especially seem to go there to die. My hubby has started to call salad mixes I buy as “aspirational” purchases as a bit of a joke. 😂. My adhd means it’s hard to prepare meals or stick to a menu plan for me. Something I am working on.
I have two dogs, and yes, I know why your garage can is up high - LOL. I bought trash cans all with lids - the foot step trash cans that open the lids without touching it.... and I haven't had a problem since. I use the small ones in all the bathrooms, and I use a large one in the kitchen.
For 15 years we had a high solid wooden 3 sided gate around our kitchen trash can to stop our spaniels feasting, they still sometimes got into it, and the bathroom pedal cans (now that could be a real embarrassment, as they could trail it around the house 🤢
I am trying to tell myself that I can store my items at Walmart or the craft store, I don’t need to store them in my house. When I need it, I can just go get it. Granted, that may not work if somebody lives in a very rural area with no close shopping, but I’ve got a Walmart at mile from my house so I call that my storage solution.
Mira I am newly subscribed just today. I wanted to tell you that I have the same chronic clutter and cleaning issue. I dont hoard or make barriers. My issue stems from childhood. My mother would beat me if i didnt clean well or fast enough. If i was slow, she would hit me and tell me to just get out of they way and she would do it and scream at me the whole time she was doing it. She would go into rage fits if my room wasnt cleaned accurately and destroy my room and demand me to "clean it up right", and then hit me and make me get out of the way and do it, screaming etc. Dishes i washed would get thrown back into the sink and id get made to do them over and over due to them not being to her standard. I was never trained properly, never taught anything . At age 58 im still trying to figure it out. So im proud of you, and understanding what you go through with anxiety and getting tense, as well as not being certain as to how long an area will stay decluttered as i go through it too. Bless you hunny, just keep going strong so proud of you.❤❤❤

The night before trash pickup, I empty the fridge of any prepared foods sitting there for several days. Then, I just wipe down as needed.

@@PeelingAwaytheClutter We lost our 15 yr old girl last Wednesday 9 days ago, and our 14 yr old boy 3 months before, also our beautiful cat in between, it's so heartbreaking even though we knew it was coming for a while. It feels like a whole chapter of our lives has closed. We got our new puppy 2 days ago, so sad they didn't meet, as we chose and paid for the new baby a while ago, but our furever angels will always be with us xxx
I have a struggle with my fridge food. Veggies especially seem to go there to die. My hubby has started to call salad mixes I buy as “aspirational” purchases as a bit of a joke. 😂. My adhd means it’s hard to prepare meals or stick to a menu plan for me. Something I am working on.
I relate so much to aspirational salads. I have one in the fridge right now! We can work on this together.

I have two dogs, and yes, I know why your garage can is up high - LOL. I bought trash cans all with lids - the foot step trash cans that open the lids without touching it.... and I haven't had a problem since. I use the small ones in all the bathrooms, and I use a large one in the kitchen.
For 15 years we had a high solid wooden 3 sided gate around our kitchen trash can to stop our spaniels feasting, they still sometimes got into it, and the bathroom pedal cans (now that could be a real embarrassment, as they could trail it around the house 🤢

I am trying to tell myself that I can store my items at Walmart or the craft store, I don’t need to store them in my house. When I need it, I can just go get it. Granted, that may not work if somebody lives in a very rural area with no close shopping, but I’ve got a Walmart at mile from my house so I call that my storage solution.

Mira I am newly subscribed just today. I wanted to tell you that I have the same chronic clutter and cleaning issue. I dont hoard or make barriers. My issue stems from childhood. My mother would beat me if i didnt clean well or fast enough. If i was slow, she would hit me and tell me to just get out of they way and she would do it and scream at me the whole time she was doing it. She would go into rage fits if my room wasnt cleaned accurately and destroy my room and demand me to "clean it up right", and then hit me and make me get out of the way and do it, screaming etc. Dishes i washed would get thrown back into the sink and id get made to do them over and over due to them not being to her standard. I was never trained properly, never taught anything . At age 58 im still trying to figure it out. So im proud of you, and understanding what you go through with anxiety and getting tense, as well as not being certain as to how long an area will stay decluttered as i go through it too. Bless you hunny, just keep going strong so proud of you.❤❤❤
