You know what? You've inspired me. I'm going to finally tackle the clutter chaos that is our master bedroom & pull out all the clothes that 1) no longer fit, 2) I never wear, 3) I don't like & 4) don't need. I've been excusing the mounting mess for way too long, blaming my fibromyalgia, my depression, my bad knee & it's time I just get it done, bit by bit, as you're showing us. God bless you, Mira! I really needed to see this & hear you today. Thank you! 🙏🤗

Fantastic decision, you will love yourself so much when you only have real options left in your closet 💜
And from own experience I can tell you that it is very empowering to find out, that it was „just“ laziness holding me back, and not all of my diagnosis and excuses 😃

Oh! Thank you so much, Mira, for the encouragement. Gosh, I need it right now, lol. I'm trying to stick to one of my words for the year, feedback (to replace failure) but it's challenging. However, on a very good note! I finally got to my tripod behind a whole bunch of stuff so I'm going to set up & record the process, too, so I can look back on my accomplishments when I'm being hard on myself & remind myself that with patience & kindness, we can all, slowly but surely, made progress & create more nurturing environments for ourselves because we're worth it. And you're showing me that, in each video. Thank you & bless you, Mira!@@PeelingAwaytheClutter

A friend of mine would brag about the amount of clothes she had bought over the years. We went to her closets, yes, all three closets, and they were filled. She looked at me and said she even still had clothes from high school and middle school. At the time we both were in our 30s. Lol She asked if I would help her and I said definitely. We took one weekend, for one closet. We separated the clothes into 4 piles. Clothes to keep, clothes to let go, clothes to donate, clothes to just throw out. Once that closet was empty, we went threw the clothes to throw out. She was happy with that pile so we bagged them up and I took them outside to go in the garbage. Then the clothes to donate we went threw and she found that some of the clothes to keep were more for the clothes to donate. Needless to say by the end of the weekend she only had about 15 outfits, she matched up to hang in this closet. We attacked the other closets the same way and I took the bags of donations and dropped them off each time. After a couple months she decided to do the same thing again with the clothes. Things she wanted to keep or donate. It was easier for her to make those decisions now. It wasn't so overwhelming. And when I thought she was bragging about her clothes turned out to be a cry for help. We did the beginning and she did the ending. I was so proud of her and she was proud of herself too. Take your time but yet set a goal. As soon as you make the decision to donate get rid of that stuff right away. Don't keep it in the house. You end of second guessing what you decided to donate and end up keeping it. Mira, you got this. You can do it. 😊😎💞

You are doing really well Mira. This is hard work. My mother passed in October and I just did her wardrobes yesterday for my dad. I was blessed to have my daughter with me to keep spirits up, the giggles flowing and to help keep both of us on track to keep going to the end. 12 hours of solid exhausting back breaking work, we have 32 extra large bin bags to donate. Lots of comfort derived that our chosen charity Cancer Research UK will benefit.

Decluttering always happens in layers and you will get better at letting go as you practice. You're doing great. Something that helps me maintain a lower amount of clothes is re-evaluating everytime I take something off or put laundry away. If there's any reason I didn't enjoy wearing it, it goes. Doesn't matter how "nice" it is or anything like that. We all deserve to be comfortable in our clothes.

I had a REALLY big keep pile when I downsized. I put containers and hangers in my closet and started putting things away, starting with my favorites and at one point I just said that's enough. So don't worry about it now, you will feel differently later. Just remember that you want to be able to see everything and stick to that.

I would define the space you have to hold each type of clothing. As Dana K. White says. "Let that space be your container." It is the limit that you can have. Put your favorites in first. When the space is full and you want to put more in, something else that you like less has to come out. Let the container (space) be the bad guy. You can keep anything, but not everything. I would not put up shelves until the spaces have all be thoroughly decluttered so you know exactly what you want to keep.

Mira you continue to inspire! The great thing about decluttering is that you can do it over and over. My journey started 7 months ago and I’m finding now that things I initially decided to keep are things that I can let go of now. My ultimate goal is to not have so much stuff for my adult children to deal with when the time comes. I’ve already told them not to keep things that they don’t truly want. Keep up the great work! You’re doing a super job! ❤

The exact same thing happened to me! The first pass was so difficult. A year later I see stuff, especially clothes and shoes etc and can just let them go. It’s a lot easier now for some reason. My attachment to ‘stuff’ has diminished a lot. It feels so much better being minimal. Life just seems lighter if that makes sense.😊

Awww Clay looks like a little sheep with his new hair cut 🐑✂️❤️. I like your jumper you are wearing. It looks nice and soft and I like the ties at the wrist. I said at your last video that I needed to clear out my 2 door wardrobe because I had a smallish box to go in there but there was no room. Well I did it! I changed my bed on Sunday as usual and then I thought I'm gonna do it before Mira's next video! I threw away a whole bin bag of rubbish, bits of bubble wrap, tissue paper that was too creased to do anything with, lots of plastic zipper bags that come with clothes and God knows what else. I also donated almost a whole bag of clothes. I now have room in my shelves 😀. I have a few items that haven't been worn and still have the tags on that don't fit and in my sensible brain I know I'm not going to loose the weight because of various reasons, medication, low mobility etc, etc. But there's always the possibility of a miracle, isn't there? 😅 Anyway, thank you Mira 👍

I am not sure if this comment belongs to this video, but this idea I read a long time ago has been helping me : If you have minute ie:60 seconds (heating a cup of coffee in the microwave, waiting for water to boil, etc) look around and see what needs to be put away, thrown away, etc. It has helped me to keep areas more tidy. It is amazing what you can do in 60 seconds or so!

  • @heta4737
    @heta4737 10 місяців тому +8

Don't worry if everything that you decide to keep doesn't fit into the wardrobe. Like you said, this is only the first pass. When you're done you can put the clothes that don't fit in the wardrobe into a bin and put it away. Then put a note in your calendar in a few months (or beginning of summer) to go through clothes again. That time you'll see what you actually wore and what you don't like anymore. And of course swap out items from the bin(s) to your wardrobe. That way your clothes stay organised and you don't have the stress of visual clutter. But you can still have your mind in peace knowing that the items you love are still safe and accessible anytime you want to swap some clothes in the wardrobe. That way you also avoid purchasing more items because you know you already have a "back stock". Remember: you don't have to be perfect or have the perfect wardrobe for us, we are still excited to see your progress.

Equally if you want to or have to do laundry everyday, then you might only need 5 pairs of something.
I do a wash load every day to every few days and therefore only need 4-5 of everything expect underwear.
The expectation is outerwear and shoes, as I tried to own just one of each (leather jacket and plain black trainers) but it didnt work for me in the UK.

I truly think Cupid had a paw in you finding that pillowcase. Sometimes little messages come to us in the sweetest ways. It warmed my heart to hear that. You really seem to inspire others in beautiful ways. You certainly inspire me, not in the cleaning or sorting, but more in just general change. I'm nearly 47, have fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety and well...there's a list. But I have always worried about judgment (narcissistic mother), but with my best friends help and a little dose of inspiration from you..I'm finally going out in public in shorts. You expose your home, your 'flaws' and yourself in general and you show a strength that inspires. I came across you from Bonnie, 'A beautiful mess', and I'm so glad I did. Your strength and determination to make a change is admirable. You are doing so well and I hope that all your supporters embolden you to continue until you find your success. When you said something in an earlier video about having to let go of the dream you had for using something it really resonated with me because that is a big issue for me too. Thank you for motivating me to continue my decluttering journey. I was so excited when I heard you mention making a t-shirt quilt!!! My son asked me to make a t-shirt quilt for him a couple of years ago. It was fun but difficult because I dont have a specialized quilting machine but my Juki machine worked great. I had to iron stabilizer to each t-shirt square first so I wouldn't be working with stretchy fabric. Then I outlined each t-shirt square with 1.5 strips of background and chose the quilt as you go method because it would be too hard to try to quilt a queen size heavy quilt at the end. When I joined one square to the next, the quilting part was done. It took me 4 months because I was only able to work a little at a time, but my son loved it and he called it "epic."!

I’ve noticed when you are feeling embarrassed that you laugh at yourself. I’m not sure you realize, but that’s a defense mechanism to make other people comfortable with your discomfort. I wanted to tell you that you don’t have to do that. Other people can make space for you to be uncomfortable with your feelings. That space is room for you to grow. Clothes can be so hard to make decisions on! I wonder if, once your shelves are installed, you could sort of rotate your wardrobe? Say, once your closet and dresser are full, put the rest in big rubbermaid totes for a few months and just wear what's in your closet, then switch them out? It might make less decision fatigue and help you gradually weed out things you don't love over time? Maybe that won't work for you, I don't know, but it's a suggestion I saw that seems like it could be helpful! Whatever you decide to do, I hope you feel good about how you keep going even when it's hard! I appreciate your videos so much, your honesty is really inspiring and I love seeing all the kindness and support in the comments too. It makes me feel better about humanity. HA!

You're doing such a great job! Sometimes, I have trouble remembering things. But eventually, it comes back. I love your laugh. You are inspiring so many of us to get up & get moving & clean our places & get some things thrown out or donated. I have my sewing room/doggie room to get done. I have an Italian Greyhound. She's around 25lbs & 13yrs old. She's very smart. She was a show dog, but she wasn't as good as others, so they retired her & then we found her. We could have her if we got her spayed. So we did. They keep them intact while showing, etc! I love seeing your cute furbaby! I love that pillow with the picture of him on it. You keep up the great work just a little or more a day is awesome! I know sometimes I just don't feel up to doing anything, but I know I need it done, so I do it! LOL! Bless you! ♥️☺️🫂🍄🦉🐾🧵🪡🧶🎨🖼

Good job purging!!! I found when I got rid of all the clothes that I didn’t wear often, resulted in me taking great care of the little bit of stuff that I had left.

You’re doing such a great job of letting items go for a first pass! Everyone is right about being able to let more go during later sessions. Things that were “absolute keeps” for me during a first pass were then let go later without distress. I finally got to a point where I loved the clear and organized spaces and the peace they gave me made me much happier than the “stuff.” That being said, it’s an ongoing process and my closet is a mess again - you’ve inspired me to dig in this weekend! Thank you Mira!

Norma here. I usually go through my clothing at least two times. On the second pass, I usually find that some of the items I kept, I’m now willing to let go. I’m always thinking to myself that I may need to wear such and such in the future, but seriously, if I haven’t worn something in years, I’m not going to wear it in the future either. lol
You’re doing great. Slow and easy won the race.

Dont you worry about the bulk you may have. First passes are always overwhelming. I do have a scheduled date on my phone every 6 months to go through clothes. I have peeled away down to a managed level now. I now use the 6 month to go through other things that i struggle with. I too, struggle with some things. My office is the most difficult area. Paper items are the worst in my home. I have to start since that is the next room i am redoing. It is so hard. Its is just me and my Husband. So setting up our gaming corner of our dreams is what we are planning. A trip to Ikea and décor from Amazon to get "The Witcher" Themed office is what we both agreed on. That is our reward for such a hard work on our Home. We been working on our home for over 6 months. I will say your struggles and the journey was the same for us. We completely understand your journey. It was ours too. Sending all the love and positive energy. Blessed Be Mira!

I ADORE CLAY! His facial markings are so cute! And after his grooming, his face, just so precious! I watched the first 5 minutes of this video 3 times before I could focus on your clothing. At first I was wondering what Clay was doing, then I laughed as he ate his bone, because his whole body was constantly moving. My 3 big dogs just lie on the floor (or wherever) with only their jaws moving. Between watching Clay and your wonderful sense of humor, I laughed and laughed through this video. I’m saving it to re-watch every so often when I need a chuckle. But, about you wanting to show us you’ve changed and have new habits: You do that already!! You used to just buy more things without letting anything go, you kept things very unorganized. Now, every single week you are systematically sorting through some section of clutter, letting some things go, and organizing the things that stay. You’ve looked into different ways of organizing and found the way that’s best for you. You’ve reached out for help when you knew you needed it (Bonnie). In addition to routinely decluttering and organizing, you’re working at maintaining the new organization and even improving it (adding open shelving for your visual organizing style). It’s because we see that you’re following through and maintaining the desired changes that you’re a role model for many of us! We all know how hard it is to change, and we see that week after week, and despite profound personal loss, you determinedly keep at it. Oh, before I forget, I love the pillowcase your sister sent you! It’ll look great on your uncluttered bed! Thank you, Mira, for sharing your life and constantly inspiring me!

Mira, I have binge watched all of your videos this past week. After this one, I was like…I have to wait a whole week for another one??!! I was wondering if you had thought about maybe adding one more to your weekly schedule? Like maybe Mondays showing a weekend project of like scrapbooking. I enjoyed watching you do the scrapbook page for subscribers so maybe Mondays could be Crafts and then Thursday could remain Cleaning. ?? Thanks for the content! Ps maybe you could do a Cupid page. Or do before and after pages to hang in each room as motivation to keep it that way.

Mira & I thought I had clothes you beat me ha ha ! I did my declutter of clothes during the height of covid I had 13 /33 gallon bags of clothes . I worked in a pharmacy for 27 years & I accumulated 53 blazers some with tags on, & so many dresses ,skirts, dress pants, coats ,sweaters shoes, boots coats etc I called the Mission house & she came with her truck we both masked up & put them in her truck .She told me I will be clothing a lot of people . I still need to go thru AGAIN as I see where there are some I no longer want . So thanks fro pushing me thru the next challenge . I thought I would have lost more weight in 3 years ,but no so those clothes are going to go ! Mira do you have under the bed storage if you cannot get them all in your closets & dressers ? I use to do that before I got rid of so many clothes. Have a lovely up & coming week !

Wow, I thought I was a clothes horse!😂 Seriously, I am really enjoying all of your videos, but the clothes are particularly interesting! I have actually started in on my own huge clothing piles. Like you, I have both mental and physical issues, and an elderly mother I take care of. And a whole lot of someone else's "clutter" that is now mine to sort and organize. Chronic pain makes it difficult, but I've made a start, and I'm proud of what I've done. Clothes and jewelry (especially earrings) are my beloved nemesis, so listening to your thoughts as you sort yours is really helping me. I've only gotten a small start on mine, but now, after watching you, I feel very encouraged that I can do the same for myself. Thank you, thank you for your courage and honesty.

Would it be a Mira video without some funny angles ? 😂😂 I think this is one of the things that set a lot of people back. The idea of perfectionism and wanting to get things right first time, they need the accountability of a UA-cam channel but don’t know how to do the filming or the editing so won’t start. They want to declutter clothes but since they can’t get to their dream amount, they might as well not start. Where as you see the value of starting, just one little step helps. And I’m glad you recognise that this is just the first round, the next few rounds will be so satisfying

Oh wow, destashing clothing and mugs was huge for me! I'm disabled and after 10 years of it, an additional diagnoses and lots of ongoing treatments, I was able to have just enough energy & stamina to take 3-5 hangers from my closet to a commercial clothing rack in my living room. I decided sell, donate, toss each day. My guidance - I don't need business clothing anymore. Also I told myself the less clothing I have the less laundry, which is a very comforting, positive thought. Also being able to get in & out of my closet easily with the least amount of pain makes a huge difference. To me all of those reasons are way more important than any excuse I could come up with. I was able to clear out lots with those goals. Keeping in mind less laundry, it was much easier to get rid of T-shirts. Another big thought was don't keep any lounging clothing & that is not 100% comfortable. No matter how cute or who gave it to me. It's just making my life harder. Then on to mugs & cups and all kinds of things I used when I used to entertain/have parties came next. Again, reminding myself I need easy access to dishes. I don't need tons of dishes & silverware or appliances & definitely not going to entertain anymore. So the toss items went every week with trash collection. Clothing on the rack downstairs & there's no way it was going back upstairs whew! Donations were picked up. After 3 yard sales over the summer, several charities picked up everything that was left over. It made a big difference. Now I ran out of time before the yard sales. So I didn't get to everything. I ran out of steam when fall hit, due to one of my health issues going out of whack. I've been working on it over a year to get back to a little extra stamina. I'm almost there but winter is a hindrance. I still have been going thru a little tiny bit when I can, just not as much as before. it's eventually getting done. I'll be back to neat freak soon, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel 😄
Oh my daughter removed the doors in her bedroom closet. I'm the opposite, even if the coset is organized, I prefer the clean & simple look of the closed white doors 😂 but I understand her need to have the doors removed. I was keeping shirts for T-shirt quilts. But I realized I have enough quilts & blankets. Most of them were sports related to remember fun as a season ticket holder for football & baseball. I recognized I will not be able to make them. Sports things sold well at the yard sale and I gave plenty away too.
