Yay! A nice long Mira video. I just finished watching, and I’m a little dizzy from that exciting tilt-a-whirl part towards the end, but I have comments. First of all, “I’m a pacifist across your face” made me laugh so much! Hilarious. I don’t know anything about Thread Up, but I know that some of the things you were putting in the bag were really cute and I want them! What do I do? Do they put stuff on the website under your name? And I also wanted to say that you look thinner to me than you were in your first videos. Your energy feels so much lighter, too. This from someone you don’t know. You are changing in ways you might not notice yet! Declutterring will do that. I laughed when you pulled out that crossbow, girlfriend. What next? LOL. You are making such life-changing progress and I know that future Mira is going to thank you (after she finishes the future-Mira projects) for giving yourself a calm, peaceful place to live and enjoy all your fun hobbies. I have no advice for you. Just encouragement, validation, and plenty of loving vibes. PS:: no water bottles in this video. What is happening?? LOL

Thanks for commenting! So sorry I made you dizzy. I thought I had removed that part until I got to the voiceover.
I have added links to my ThreadUp items. There are two bags of items (including what's shown here) that they haven't processed yet, but I'll add them after they are processed.
I did have a couple of water bottles in this one, but they are gallon sized ones and not Aquafina (don't tell them I cheated, LOL).

Please consider donating your clothing, shoes, and other usable items to Domestic Violence shelters in your Community. Larger women who flee their homes need everything you are attempting to sell. Also, you can take your donations off your 2024 taxes. A win-win for everyone! 🎉

I am thinking she is trying to recoup some of the money she has spent on these clothes. This is normal with someone just starting to declutter; there is guilt over how much money has been spent. Between t shirts and leggings, it has got to be in the thousands. As more time passes, I am sure she will start donating.

In reality, Mira will receive very little money for ALL those things she is attempting to sell. The sad thing is that THEY will keep everything and dispose of what they don't pay for. Of course it's her things but she could really bless a lot of women if she were to donate.

Mira, no! Do NOT keep those leggings because you might use them for something! 🙅🏼‍♀️ Put them in the trash as soon as you take them off & CELEBRATE that you have a bazillion left to wear! By the time you need something for a paint or dye project, you’ll have worn out more. 👍🏻
When you see all those T-shirts in one place, I suspect it’ll get easier to make another pass. That’s what jump started me to fill 6 bags. I put things in piles by categories & suddenly had the visual of how much of that category I had 😱 If the pile was bigger than the place I had to put them, enough pile had to go to fit. No Tardis coming to save me! 😂 But I really haven’t missed anything that went out once it was out of sight. 🙅🏼‍♀️

I need to categorize things as well.. that helps me a lot ..then i decide what/when i want to deal with... paper clothes- tools- household.. and each of those categories have categories.. .it's a process.. but it helps me down size to a realistic amount of pants shirts, bowls...ect. to " keep".

Hello Mira! Thank you for entertaining me 😂 my ideas about keeping at it when you're not feeling it: 1. Deal with 10 pieces a day. 10 is doable. 2. If you look at your Mount Washmore: is this worth your time and effort, physically and mentally? Are you washing it to afterwards donate? Don't get me wrong, I'm very much for donations! But the amount you're dealing with is humongous. If you will give these clothes away anyway, maybe it is, for now, better if you grab them and throw them away. And once you feel more capable of tackling this, you can still return to donations etc. The whole process will feel less daunting to you. Also, if you like looking forward to something: feed your brain some dopamine by setting up a little reward for directly after your declutter session. One cupcake. A special tea. Something you enjoy. Set your mind to it: I will deal with my amount of things, and afterwards I'll treat myself to looking at my most beautiful tarot deck of all times. You got this. You don't have to perform the same every day. Neurotypical people don't usually do it, and ADD people certainly don't, especially under difficult circumstances like after a loss and in January. Sending hugs from Luxembourg 🇱🇺

Those little boxes could be put on their sides and stacked on top of each other, then tape together and they can be a temporary place to fold all your t shirts in. I know what you mean about pillows of course there are memory foam pillows, i though found mine too high, I tried feather but the dig into you, I’m now on a micro fibre cheap flat pillow and that has been better for me, pillows are such a personal thing, only you know what makes you comfortable.

A reformed clutter person here. We can only maintain so many things with the closet and drawers that we have. The excess needs to go as soon as you bag it to go to Thread Up or wherever else you donate to. Don't think twice about anything. None of us have known what is in a box or at the bottom of the pile. The accumulation of items causes it to be difficult to move around and brings on anxiety. Therapeutic in the long run to rid ourselves of the clutter. This has been my strategy in decluttering. You are doing great.

Sue Wolfe- You're making progress, Mira! Try working in the closet first so there's a place to put the clothes you want to keep. Then, focus on the room contents. The frustration you're speaking of is called "stuff-shifting." It's moving things around but not really getting anywhere. I know how it feels to expend a lot of energy and not really get anywhere. Give yourself grace and work in smaller spaces and complete that space so you feel that sense of accomplishment. You're really getting there, Mira. Baby steps!! 👍👏💪❤️❤️

I cheered when I first glimpsed the floor! I get where you're coming from in wishing for a more dramatic, whole room transformation, but you did a darn good job whittling away there 🎉
Maybe in the future, you could try sorting in another room? Maybe it would reduce handling items multiple times if you threw a pile into a laundry basket or those IKEA totes, hauled it to the living room, and did the sorting there? It'd also give you more options for filming angles, although of course the actual decluttering is the most important. Just thinking out loud. You're right, you conquered Clutter Mountain, you CAN do anything! If not for that experience, you wouldn't have had the realization about how the totes help you sort, for example 😃

Your living room is a bigger clearer area where you can sit comfortably to sort clothing items. Set up 3 bins on the floor in front of you. Keep, donate, sell. Also have a trash bag ready in case anything needs to be thrown away. Grab a big armful of clothes from your bedroom and take them to the sofa to sort. Do this till the sorting bins are full. Once you've washed keep items put them in a clearly labelled keep bag and place the keep bags in a corner of the living room for the time being. Get rid of the donate and sell as soon poss to free up the room. Keep repeating the remove and sort till you've cleared through all the loose clothing and you're just left with bags labelled keep. There should be plenty of room to move about in there once the clothes are out so you can organise, clean and sort your bedroom. Put clothes back last once you are happy with how you have it. Keep at it Mira you're doing great.

I totally agree. Use the living room as a sorting zone. Also, please don't bother washing the clothes before you sort them. Only wash the clothes you're going to keep. It will reduce your feeling of overwhelm and use less soap, water, and energy. And be careful with the 'stuff shifting', that also feeds the overwhelm. Try the OHIO principle - Only Handle It Once. I really do get how hard it is to reduce collections of favorite things. I had to sort through my fabric collection a few years ago. I did a quick toss to get rid of stuff I knew I wouldn't use, then the second pass was slower, sorting by fabric content. The third pass was to make the collection fit into its assigned space. Touching each piece of fabric three times was really too much and very overwhelming. Dana K White has a great video about her container concept.

Hi Mira, you are doing amazingly! Look how much you have done instead of looking at how much you have to do. It took years to accumulate all your things and it's going to take quite a while to go through them all so don't get disheartened by the process. You are grieving, this is a time to be kind to yourself and set smaller goals not try to do huge amounts. I would recommend trying to turn things into a game, set a timer and find as much rubbish as possible in 5 minutes (I like to make a chart plotting my progress and also make a Ta Dah! List in my diary showing what I've managed to do that day instead of a to do list that's never ending!) Or concentrate on working for 20 minutes at a time then giving yourself a reward like a nice hot coffee (and a sweet treat). ❤

  • @Anberel
    @Anberel 8 місяців тому +12

Watching other people’s decluttering videos or playing music I like helps when I’m not feeling that motivated. I know the clothes are overwhelming right now. Perhaps you should pick out a sort of “capsule wardrobe” of about 30 days worth of clothing and sort the rest into stackable bins with labels. Then you can go through each category and decide what to keep. There’s a saying “you can’t organize clutter.” You won’t be able to organize the clothes until you have been able to declutter them. If you aren’t willing or able to declutter as you go, then you need to find a way to temporarily contain the clothes you have sorted into categories.

Obviously you are a woman of many interests and you unfortunately have bought a surplus of items to feed into all that, from K pop to sci-fi. It would go so much faster if you would just grab a crap load of stuff, toss it in a box and take it to donation right away. But I know that won’t happen because you need to touch most items and that is just how you are. So hang in there… one corner at a time. I think as you continue on your journey it will get easier to let go of stuff…

Great job Mira! Thank you for inspiring me to declutter my bedroom. I totally understand how frustrating it is when you don't even have the space for sorting. I find it helpful to do what Mack from Midwest Magic Cleaning recommends and just concentrate on a 3ft space and work on that until done. I really love your look today when you put your hair in a bun, that is what I do now that I am retired and i just like to get my hair out of my face with a ponytail or bun, or even a head band, it feels great! Love your videos and don't despair, you have accomplished so much already! Thank you for taking us along with you! I look forward to each video of yours!

Oh Mira I just love your laugh! It’s so good that you can laugh at yourself 😊😊😊
You have got this clearing out! It doesn’t matter if you are handling some items more than once, it just matters that you get to the end of each room without too much stress on yourself. The idea one person commented on of having three bags and label them give away, keep and sell is a good one, you can always look at the contents before they go out of the house, if that makes you more comfortable.
Keeping on keeping on, we’re willing you on from all corners of the world. Watching from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺 ❤🎉

You cracked me up when you put “weeks later” on the screen. It’s always good to laugh. I encourage you to maintain what you have cleaned and removing garbage and donating clothes ASAP. I go through my clothes every winter and donate. Sometimes I can’t decide on a piece of clothing and I hang on to it, only to find out the next winter I still haven’t worn it, so out it goes. I have never missed the things I’ve donated. Keep it up…doing just even a little everyday will help you stay focused. And look! You have thousands of people cheering you on!

My tip for when you aren’t feeling well but want to stay motivated… instead of declutterring a section… give yourself small daily goals like finding homes for 15 items per day. Whether is a piece of trash, something to donate, or something that just needs a new spot in your home. Small tasks on hard days.

Something I sometimes do that might help you: I don't fold all of my t-shirts one at a time, rather I lay them flat one on top of another with the fronts on top. If I have to move them, I simply fold them in half at the waist and move them all at once. That way, they are less wrinkled and they don't topple over. When you are ready, sort, fold, and put them in your categories of keep, sell, donate. It just brings simple order to a large number of t-shirts at one time. This is a project left for another day.

  • @tracybird4547
    @tracybird4547 8 місяців тому +8

    You’re doing fantastic!
My tip is to not do all that laundry before sorting. I buy from thrift stores all the time. I always wash whatever I buy before using. I’m not suggesting that obviously soiled clothes don’t get cleaned first but if it’s just to freshen things, that seems like a ton of work that’s probably not needed.
I would sort the clothes in 3 categories - keep, Thread Up, donate. I would just make those decisions and put them all in clearly marked boxes/bins.
I would then prioritize getting all the Thread Up out as fast as possible to give you space.
I would then take another pass at the donate section, dividing it into 2 categories - needs washing, doesn’t need washing. The no wash boxes are next out the door. Wash boxes are then priority so they can go out.
I would get to my keep clothes section last because you’re more likely to have room to put away after you wash.
I find it easier to do things in chunks and I think you can minimize the drain on your executive function by doing the decision making in stages this way. It’s worth considering.

If you added up everything you’ve kept and there’s more than 365 outfits, you’ll never wear them all. Tough love…just get rid of them! Once they’re out the door, you’ll not miss them nor regret getting rid of them.

I would keep 20 pair of your leggings and donate the rest. As far as TShirts maybe take the collection down to 50. You don’t need to keep the worn out legging-you have enough that you can wear a decent pair even for dirty work. Do not buy a single piece of clothing for the entire year as you are not in need of anything. Put the items you are keeping in a bin until they can get to be hung in the closet. Think that it will be better for someone else to use the clothes currently rather than them to just sit in your home not being worn. You could wear anew outfit every day for the next few years before you could get through all of them. Great work-keep up your momentum.

You're doing great! Maybe just focus right now on sorting into different categories without making any major decisions. Move all the bags somewhere else & clear the room out so the space itself isn't so overwhelming. Then just focus on one category at a time. I really like the container method. Only keep what you can fit into your closet and dresser (maybe including space for tubs to hold off-season clothes). I've gotten rid of so many clothes and feel so much better but it's taken me many many passes to get to this point. At one point I started a tub for maybe items and it sat there so long I just donated it all. Keep up the good work!

Mira, you are doing SO well! Just keep tackling one small area at a time! If you want to change it up for a day, you might want to try a “touch it once” approach. Enter a room and pick up an item and put it in a permanent home. Then you can try another item. If you don’t like that approach keep doing a small space at a time. I really admire your determination even during the hard times.

As a former hoarder of clothes, crafts, books, etc., I finally realised that a room was only so big, a drawer can only fit so much, a tote can only hold so much. THE REST OF IT IS TOO MUCH! Mira, if it is in your budget, consider going to one of those commercial laudramats that have the big machines and that will fold your clothes for a fee. It might make the process less overwhelming. You can then either put the clothes into categories once you get home, like you did with leggings, t-shirts, etc or put together 30 different outfits. Then you know you could wear something different every day for a month and not run out and everything else you own didn't make it into your top 30! It also is nicer even if you donate things if the clothes are washed and folded. I don't know what your situation is but anytime you are tempted to buy something, put that money into a jar and use that to have someone else do your laundry and fold it!

Here’s what I do to keep going with cleaning & decluttering when I’m struggling and I really, really don’t feel like it. I do what I can when I’m waiting for something else. For example - waiting for the microwave I use all of that time to load or unload the dishwasher or pick up things on the counter that don’t belong. Making coffee might equal tidying one drawer or one shelf in a cabinet. I also pair very small things with when I already need to get up. When I get a drink from the kitchen, I take a couple pieces of trash to the can. On my way back, I switch laundry from washer to dryer. Need to use the restroom? Put away 3 things that were left on the bathroom counter. Etc. each of these things seem so very small that they seem as if they won’t make a difference. But they actually make a huge difference over the course of a day or week and keep the progress moving forward instead of backward.

Big improvement! The empty space is so nice to have!
You look like you've lost weight. If so, congratulations!
I really benefit from Dana K. White's "container concept ". Watch her videos. You keep only what fits comfortably in the space. Keep your favorites. The remainder, you don't have to decide of you like it or not, or if it's useful. Those things just can't be kept bc there isn't room for them. As someone else said, there's no way that we can own everything in the world that we like.
Total up the number of t-shirts you have, leggings, jeans, other clothing categories, and you'll see there's way more than you could ever possibly hope to wear. And the more you have, the more laundry there is, too. And the more easily it'll all get out of control again.
Re: the boxes in your closet, I would definitely go thru them. Like you, I would always wonder what was in them, and there could be family photos or something that you definitely want to keep.
Check out the Container Concept. Very helpful!

I’ve been watching you for awhile now and even through the tough times you are making progress and THAT is remarkable. I have started on my clothes. It’s overwhelming and difficult to know where to even start…. It’s a little thing, but I have 5 drawers in a dresser full of socks! Some I like and some I can’t even remember if I like them or not. At my age, it’s all about comfort. My solution is to take a clean pair out each day to wear and at night I either throw away the uncomfortable ones or put the good ones in the laundry bin. So far, have emptied an entire drawer this way! My goal is one drawer for light colors and one for dark. So as I declutter and life gets in the way, I make a little progress EVERY DAY!

WAY TO GO, MIRA! 👏👏👏🥳🎉 There are so many excellent suggestions in the comments, I hope some of them help you with this painful and difficult task. You can do it - you’ve already done so much! My suggestions are to find something you’d consider a reward, and say, “When I get through this pile, have worked for an hour, can see the floor, etc., I get to watch, read, etc. “ As you say, it’s nice to have something to look foreword to! I’ve found little rewards along the way can help. I also find cleaning one spot helps (like you did here), so I can look at it and say ‘Yay!’ every time I go by. It has to be a big enough spot that the mess won’t flow back in😁. You’ve motivated me - I cleaned part of the linen closet yesterday, and decluttered enough to to put the vacuum cleaner in there. It used to have a spot in that closet, but somehow random things snuck in, and the vacuum was stored in the dining room for months. So, thanks! From Canada 🇨🇦

Don't be discouraged, as you said, sorting clothes is very different then sorting trash. You are still making progress. You mentioned making two piles. I would get clear stackable bins and label them clearly. One for clean clothes sorted and one for clean clothes yet sorted. You can put them in the corner you just cleared. This way you will have to handle clothes less and there are no loose piles in your room that can confuse you. Also when you are having work done, you can easily put them in the living room for the time being and put them back when the handyman leaves. You can put them on your bed when you are sorting and easily move them when you want to stop. Once you have done a first run you can them use them to sort tshirts from leggings etc. This way you will get a better grasp on how many you have in each category and I am sure this will help with a second purge. Baby steps will also reach the destination. You will get there in your own time.

Hi Mira, i so look forward to all of your videos, might I suggest bringing in your tote bags and putting things into categories, i.e. shirts in one tote, leggings in another, hangers in a different one, creepy dolls in one, etc. It might help to comparmentalize things and then go through each category at a time.

Where did you get the money to buy so many clothes?

I do not have children, so there's more disposable income. Also, I didn't buy them all at once.

I have a hard time with sentimental things but I’m finally making progress because I realized that if I let something go I still have the memory and that’s what matters. I’ve also realized that “if everything is special, then nothing is special” You are doing great with your first pass of clothes. Do your second pass as you start putting in the closet and drawers where they are going to live. I am working on a big Christmas declutter and almost have it licked!

Wow Myra! Inspiring area you reclaimed! Ty for decluttering with me, agree with you about January. After Dec 21st, everyday there's more daylight I keep reminding myself. Looking forward to Feb 2nd, groundhog day, then spring around the corner. I keep thinking I need more hangers, then I remind myself to add clothes that don't fit anymore to the donate bag. Slowly going through everything too.

You’re making great progress, Mira. Totally understand why you would feel overwhelmed by sorting out your clothes because of the sheer volume of clothing.
I have some ideas on this:
-when you have all your clothes together, I’d sort them into categories (eg novelty t shirts, tops, leggings, other pants, cardigans, socks and undies eg ).
-for the first pass, I would consider what you think is a reasonable number of items that you can keep? Eg. 30 tops, 30 pairs of leggings, 30 novelty tshirts? (Maybe it’s more depending on how much you like/wear that category of clothing - just picked 30 as an example).
-I would consider having a friend or organizing/decluttering expert help you with the clothing. So you’re not just going through this all alone. And someone who can give you a reality check about how many items you have and who can encourage you to get rid of items that don’t fit, you don’t like, etc. I totally get the first pass concept and that decluttering is a process, but I also want you to have space in your room so you can enjoy it!! ❤
Just some thoughts. No judgement here; I know how challenging this is, especially with highly valued items.
I’ve heard some people keep things for a year because they can’t let them go, and then eventually declutter them on future passes.
Keep up the awesome work! You’re so wonderful. ❤
