- It's time for Baz to take the Lynsey B out to check on the first set of creels to see if they are ready to fish.

The life jacket fits over the skins fine, bud, as they are all adjustable.
The new one I have is very comfortable, and so far, hasn't gotten in the way of my work.
It cost £140, that's just the jacket.
If you want one with a PLB, it will cost a heck of a lot more.

Aye, they are some price for everyone else apart from fishermen.
At the minute, they are around £12 per kg £6 per lobster, some up price at the selling end, eh!🤔🙄🙈

Theirs a lot of factors why I don't have a wheelhouse. One of the main ones is space!
Trying to get as much workable space as possible out of a small vessel while still trying to carry all the safety equipment the government makes us carry. ( I barely have room for my oil skins🙈)

" supermarket " gets their crab from.
Other countries have different size regulations, so that crab will certainly not be local or fresh!🙈
For the best and freshest crab, always try to buy direct from the boat. That way, you're guaranteed, not just traceability, but you also benefiting the fishermen maximum profit for their hard earned work.😁👌 and you get top quality, fresh, and tasty crab.❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍🦀🦀🦀 win, win for both parties.😁👌

Our ground for lobsters are very limited. We have ground east and west of the harbour, and the lobster ground only goes to about 3 miles out from shore. After that, it's prawn grounds, soft mud, etc. no good for lobstering. So that's one of the reasons I stick to where I work, east of the harbour😁👌
I hope that explains the reason why we fish where we fish.😁😞

We are just back from a family holiday, where I was on a full social media ban ( from Lynz 🤣🤣🤣🤣)
Unfortunately, in Scotland, their is no gear limit, so any sized boat can shoot as much as they like...in my mind that's not very poor management by Marine Scotland, but, non-existent😡 they basically getting paid to do nothing, total shambles.🙄 but what do we expect from the government 🤷♂️🙄🙈

As with all types of fishing, we can't tar everyone with the same brush.

Hi Barry. Interested to know why you only V notch and return female lobsters when they are carrying berries, but you keep and take them when they are not carrying eggs ? Am I being naive or is taking females which are obviously mature and may be able to bear eggs in the future. Best wishes Steve

In Scotland, until recently, we could even land the berried hen's.
I totally get what you're saying, and theirs not an easy answer.
From my point of view their is no balance on what we can land.
If we don't take the females then that puts all the pressure on just Cock ( male) lobsters, once they are depleted in numbers, what's there to make the female lobsters pregnant, so really we will eventually break the circle of life.🤷♂️🤔
So I think we'd be better having an equal catch system for all boats, that way, lobsters will survive and hopefully thrive, but that's all down to marine Scotland actually managing our waters, which I haven't really seen them do yet.🤔🤷♂️🙈

@@onemanandhisboat thanks Barry. It just struck me that if all the hens are returned and all the cocks are taken then a real imbalance will occur. Although from a cock’s point of view, it would lead to being very popular but somewhat exhausted 🥱 🤣🤣 🦞. It might also lead to “in breeding” and potential genetic problems if lobsters are subject to the same health issues that other species (including humans) when using a small or restricted genetic pool.
Barry Its not a young mans game as there is no young men with a family that could afford to work the way you do for as little returns.
