You know Barry watching your videos takes me back to when i used to be at the fishing and that seems like 100 years ago, how the years fly on ,Barry you seem like a very down to earth sort of guy, don't ever change and stay safe my friend.

      Hi John.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your kind comment.
I bet a lot has changed at fishing g since your time.
My father and grandfather would be turning in their graves if they saw how we treat fishing these days.😞
I hope one day things will all turn around for the better.🤞🙏

Hello Barry, that was a hard day's work. Next time your creels get snagged, try tying a short length of rope to the boat. winch as high as you can, Then tie the rope to the creel release the winch a bit then cut the creel free. Watching you hang over the side with a creel in one hand and a knife in the other? Anyway you probably won't take any notice of this. Your videos are a breath of fresh air, no talking rubbish!! Keep them coming, all the best & stay safe.

      Hi Ian
Thank you for your comment and you advise.
Normally I would do that, but the camera didn't really pick up the size of the swell that day, and I really had to watch what I was doing, as the boat would be at some funny angles at times with the weight of the balled up gear.
I was very grateful to get this fleet sorted out and away from the danger area.😊👌
      All the best, bud.😊

Yeah it was a day and a half that day bud, not the ideal conditions to get the missing gear back aboard, but with patience, and knowledge on what to do at the right time, we got through it, and two boats got some if not all there gear back...result. 💪😁👌

      Hey Murray buddy.
Are you still working at Asda's? Or are we like, ships in the night, just now?....got a little something for you!😁👌
How, lucky was I to get that fleet back....AND.... not one mark on the creel.😲😲😲😲😍😍😍😁👌, I'm a VERY lucky boy indeed.
The only explanation I can give, is the other fishermens gear rolled into mine, and carried them that distance.
It's all down to either lack of knowledge or ignorance. 🤔
When you have a fleet of creels, with bouys as ends, and NO "end stones" ( heavy weights at the ends of the bouys) in those kinds of seas, the gear will travel.
Heck even with my little flags, and zero buoyancy, we had 1 fleet move 200 to 300 meters from where they were originally set.😲😲😲
So once, bouys start moving it's simply like a snow ball effect, and not just your own gear gets wrapped up in that....as we can see here.😁👌
I hope that explains a little bit on how these fleets ended up, wrapped up together. 😁👌😂😂😂😂

Having watched most of your videos and refraining from commenting , I felt I had to comment this time, the “lack of knowledge or ignorance” remark you made regarding other fishermen from your own harbour is bang out of order Barry. As a recently retired lifelong fisherman myself I’ve had my fair share of bundled gear , my own and other boats with mine on numerous occasions due to storms. Putting the blame on the other boats gear having “rolled into yours” is a very ignorant thing to say , I saw the horrendous easterly sea we had that week, Mother Nature was the cause not the other chap. I would suggest after looking at the gear, it’s highly likely in fact that it was your gear which rolled into his! The other creels look bigger and heavier and your end weights are extremely light! Your dhan line is also still coiled up short, a big no no in seas like that!

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  Рік тому

      Hi Scott.
Thank you so much for your comment.
All comments are always grateful recieved.
If you can give me a chance to explain my comment, then I'm sure with your experience, you'll quite understand the situation.
The thing about my footage, is, you only get to see, some of the situation. I was doing my best in the extreme situation, to keep the fishermen that rolled into me, out of the picture, but since you brought it up, I'll explain.
Prior to the storm, I hadn't been out to my creels for 3 weeks ( due to contract Covid) so I know how I left my gear, and who was around me at the time.
Now my gear was set, in 10ftm of water, with 25ftm ends ( 5ftm roped up) so that gives a good 20ftm slack, for any swell, that should come along, even seas like that.
If your and experienced retired fishermen, you'll know, that flags, handle completely different to Bouys!, and to have 30 kg chains as ends, will always be enough, to pull that flag under the waves, because of the lack of buoyancy.....that's my gear.
Now, let's looks at the fella in question.
He's been at the creels commercially for under 1 year.
From the start he has not listened to the experienced fishermen on how to set the pots correctly in the area we fish.
He uses A2 bouys, without any leaders, and he has no weights on each end of his fleets.
He has also, rolled into most of the Dunbar men that fish that area, and too date, is STILL sorting out his gear from that storm. ( over fishing)
If you go to the previous vlog, ( the day before the storm hit)the creels, that are balled up on the beach ....they were his, as well.
Also, If you look closer at the pile up, on this vlog, your experienced eye will notice, that my 1st 4 creels of my gear, came up whole, and in line.... which means they were dragged, by the ball of creels at the other end. ( hence being rolled into)
I think the out come of this vlog, should be a victory after a storm like that!
That, we were able to get my gear back ( in surprising condition) and the other guy was chuffed to bits about getting some of his gear back, and getting the location on the rest of his gear to salvage.
I really hope this sways your decision on MY experience and knowledge at this, and many other jobs in my area?
Once again, thank you for taking the time to write your comment, we really do appreciate any feedback, positive or negative.
      All the very best.
      Baz.
