  • The Lynsey B heads out to shoot the final set of five fleets and, after a long seven months laid up, it won't be long until Barry is back to pulling the pots and earning some money.
    After all the creels were in the water there was a special wildlife encounter as the Lynsey B headed back to harbour. Not only did Baz and Jeff see a porpoise, they also had a visit by two minke whales, which was an amazing sight.
    Check out this week's extra long 45-minute video of a very special morning out on the North Sea.

    A nice day out Barry, great to see all fleets now in for a soak 👍
    As for the Minke whales, I have only ever seen one once, while out on a birdwatching boat trip to Noss Head from Lerwick, that holiday also gave a once in lifetime event that I have never forgotten, killer whales right up close to the rocks we were standing on, about 5 yards away from us, and they were looking hard at the seals that were taking shelter on the rocks. 10 minutes earlier we were right where the Orca's surfaced, dad myself and younger brother in a tiny inflatable fishing with hand lines, rather glad I didn't get a bite 🤣

      Hi Neil.
      That's a wonderful story, and I'm in an agreeance it's a once in a lifetime experience, and as you may tell, I was super excited about it all🙈🤪😂😂😂
      I'm so glad you never got a nibble from the orcas, and it would take some doing to reel one of those bad boys in.💪💪💪🙈😁👌😂😂😂😂 only playing, of course.
      Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.
      All the best.😁👌

    Hello Barry and Jeff, so great to see you out on the boat today! I will never get tired of seeing how majestic Dunbar Marina looks. Terrible how the "fisheries" are treating the small independent commercial boats. Sad to see so many boats for sale.
    Stay safe lads and I look forward to seeing the krills full!

      Yeah, way of the world these days, they are only ever helpful to the big industry's players, under 10 meter boats are just a nosense that the government want rid off😭😡
      And the worst thing about it, is we are letting them😡😡🙄🙄🙄🙈🙈🙈
      Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

    Great video Barry especially the whale footage. Such a romantic idea commercial fishing. As you say the outlay versus income does take away the incentive. Who will carry it on? We live in a world of few morals and most are looking to get rich quick for little effort. Hopefully by diversifying things will become easier. I can’t see many future commercial fisherman such as yourself. Best wishes, Dave

      You're so right about who is going to carry this industry on.
      Their are young men, and I'm now proud to say lassies trying to get into the industry, but the hoops and hurdles these government types are making them jump through is ridiculous.😞
      But we both know they are only there to make a job for themselves, that's what governments do, it's a shambles.😞😡
      Anyway.
      I hope you and your family have a wonderful week.

    O.K. Barry a quick MCA spelling lesson on how to spell moral - so grab your exercise book and pencil and copy this down O - B - E - Y --- M - E, there that wasn't so hard? Yes Cetacean spotting is wonderful I was lucky enough to grab some excellent shots of a Hump Back Whale down in the Antarctic, the Scilly Isles is another good place to go cetacean spotting!

    Hi Barry, do you have different coloured flags so you know who's who. And what is the distance between the first kreel to the last one launched

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  Місяць тому

      Hi Garry.
      Thank you so much for your questions, comments, and support 😍😁👌
      Each boat has a different way to mark their ends, either buy a different colour or a different setup.
      For myself. I have 30 fathom ends (60 meters) and 2 weights ( 1 at either end) and 12 creels at 12 fathom apart.
      We calculate the distance between each creel by the maximum depth of water you work and how quickly you want the gear aboard, plus more coverage of the ground is better for catching lobsters. If you have the gear to close together, and theirs no fishing in the area, then nothing you will catch, but over a longer
      fleet/ string, if their is no fishing in the middle, their might be at either end, for example.😁👌
      I hope that helps with your questions.
      All the best.😁

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  Місяць тому

      Hi Windy.
      Thank you so much for your comment and question.
      The harbour is always in constant use all year round.
      Also, being on the border of the firth of forth and the North Sea, we always get a battering from the weather and a lot of swell in the harbour.
      Also, some boats have more gear than others, and it's always the big boys who get their way 1st🙄🙈
      So theirs some of the reasons why we aren't allowed to soak our gear.
      I hope that answers your question.
      Thank you for your support.
      Hope you have a great week.
      All the best.😁

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  Місяць тому +1

      Hi.
      Thank you very much for your question.
      Black flags, believe it or not, are the easiest to see at sea, especially on those not so nice days.🌬🌊
      All boats have their different ways of marking their creels/pots, and some of the other boats have fluorescent colours as their flag colour of choice.😁👌
      I hope that answers your question.
      Thank you so much for your support.
      Have a great week.
      All the best.😁
