Especially the First Three Records but everyone knows Metallica are the Definitive American Heavy Metal Band! at least until the Load Era! and Pantera was heading downwards because of Phil's drug abuse, it sucks but that's the truth! at least to me anyway.

They took a break to have a bikini contest. I got a couple of drinks, couple of shots in me. When they cranked back up, I was breathing fire. I hit the pit with everything I had. Got the sht beat out of me the whole way but finally made it to the front, smashed against the stage in front of Dime with his sweat being slung on me. Greatest thing I've ever experienced, other than the birth of my children. So badass and unbelievable.

That is an invalid statement because he did the aggressive style much better and more. Developed on the later album than he did here. And the vocal style he used on each album was designed for each one of those albums. And the point was as the album's got heavier and more aggressive, his vocal had to match it. And each one of those albums after was just as good as cowboys. Just unique and evolving more vicious. But Phil delivered on each one and his signature vocal style and range developed to its max by Great Southern Trendkill.
Despite Dime being one the most celebrated shredders he chose the simple and direct path for his riffs. A sign of a musician who puts the song before his ego. A rare thing.
His rhythm work wasn't praised enough. Nobody grooved like he did. But, that was the sign of the times. Shredding was king, and often took a back seat to good songs and steller band performance.
My son has this song and video played when he walked up to receive his High School Diploma. Not every body was as enthusiastic as mom. I taught him well
This song has so much variety in it. The phrasing. The beats. The cadence of the riffs. All the different melodies. And to top it all of with that Godly solo. This is a unique gem
Death Metal Thrash Metal after sitting down and listening to the last 5 Pantera albums from start to finish, I have concluded that Phil is, hands down, the greatest metal singer and frontman of all time. What other metal vocalist started out singing power metal falsetto vocals like Rob Halford, then progressed to death metal and other extreme vocal styles? All while fronting one of the most influential bands of all time.
Me and Dimebag almost share the same birthday only that his birthday is on the 20th of August mines on the 19th. R.I.P probably the best Metal Guitarist.
The solo on this one actually sounds like a psycho holiday, a descent into madness. Not always the biggest fan of shredding solos as they can come off as self-indulgent at times (to me, anyway), but this one really suits what the song is getting at.

Dimebag was so damn good playing the guitar, that he didn't use high dollar tube guitar amps, he used Randall RG100 heads for most of his career. They only cost about $250 a piece back then. It just goes to show you that equipment is only secondary. It's the guitarist's skill that matters most, and Dimebag had plenty !

I remember watching this at MTV during the beginning of 90s. I immediately realized there was something really unique here, but didn't imagine at all they would become that massive.
I just found the cowboys from hell demos on UA-cam and they are a must listen. Phil's vocals are even better than on the album version and all the demos are album quality too. The psycho holiday demos vocals are so clear and phil sounds incredible

Loved Pantera from the first song I heard Cowboys From Hell that first album introduced me to a whole new love for Metal, I was already a big Metal fan with Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Priest, Metallica and Megadeth and when I heard this I couldn't stop listening to it, it was an addiction Dimes crazy screaming guitar solos and badass riffs just blew my mind and Phils vocals were in your face and incredible, Vinnies thunderous drumming bloody awesome and Rex held his own on bass such a unique sound could pick em out of a crowd will never be another band like them and will never be another guitarist like Dime R.I.P, and R.I.P Vinnie your music will live on forever 🍺🍻👌🤘🤘🤘

This album came out in 1989, and nobody sounded like them at time, they were too hard for their short lived glam metal look in '88 Power Metal was like Judas priest meets Metallica Lol

One of my favourite pantera songs. Everything is perfect. Early 90’s Phil was in a lane of his own. Insanely good vocals. Dimes grove is absolutely wild as well

Dimebag was so damn good playing the guitar, that he didn't use high dollar tube guitar amps, he used Randall RG100 heads for most of his career. They only cost about $250 a piece back then. It just goes to show you that equipment is only secondary. It's the guitarist's skill that matters most, and Dimebag had plenty !

I just found the cowboys from hell demos on UA-cam and they are a must listen. Phil's vocals are even better than on the album version and all the demos are album quality too. The psycho holiday demos vocals are so clear and phil sounds incredible

Totally understand. I practiced drag the waters for a few weeks to impress my mates and half way through my strumming arm just gave up, i had to half assedly finished the song then apologized that i ain't no dime :) we all had a good laugh, its all about having fun right.

Loved Pantera from the first song I heard Cowboys From Hell that first album introduced me to a whole new love for Metal, I was already a big Metal fan with Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Priest, Metallica and Megadeth and when I heard this I couldn't stop listening to it, it was an addiction Dimes crazy screaming guitar solos and badass riffs just blew my mind and Phils vocals were in your face and incredible, Vinnies thunderous drumming bloody awesome and Rex held his own on bass such a unique sound could pick em out of a crowd will never be another band like them and will never be another guitarist like Dime R.I.P, and R.I.P Vinnie your music will live on forever 🍺🍻👌🤘🤘🤘
