My wife Deb, my soulmate for 41 years passed away February 20th 2022 from cancer. When we first met she was all about AC/DC & Black Sabbath. In my opinion, this is Pantera's best song.
So much emotion in this song, combined with heaviness, the solo really speaks for itself.
+~Delevity~ Agreed, this or Broken for me. First time I heard it was watching Tales of the Crypt with Billy Zane in an episode titled "Well Cooked Hams." It got my attention right away; my first exposure to Pantera was a blast.

Having a few drinks and reminiscing tonight. I really think the 90s was the peak of humanity, and one of the highlights was Pantera. I wish I hadn't been so young in the 90s so I could have truly appreciated the treasures that we truly had such as this. There is only down from here, especially considering the last decade. God bless.
World back then was full of life. Now only memories remain in this bland version of world.
I remember my first pantera concert in 1992 I was 14, great memories & a great time to be alive as a kid/teen.

To this day this song still gives me cold chills, there truly was no one like Dime and his ability on the guitar was unbelievable.
This song really shows the bands true talents and his vocal abilities.
Not to mention his writing skills.. 😊
+greeneyed Lilpup74 yes Anselmo's voice and writing abilities can never be touched. he is the shit!!!! dime bags riff's were awesome too.
Yes, but then singing is for wussies, so he had to prove how manly he was by screamoing into the mic. It was especially obnoxious starting with Far Beyond Driven.

Even after all these years, I'm still blown away @ 4:53 to the end when Phil's high notes matches Dime's notes. Phil's probably one of the few, if not the only one, the can hit that!!
Howard Jones (of Killswitch Engage) and Layne Staley (of Alice In Chains) can hit notes that are almost that high (but not quite). Check them out. 🤟 Edit: actually, I think that Layne has hit a higher note.
The best part of the song
And the drums fit the part perfectly, I jam out to the last part on repeat over and over. Timeless
I'd like to introduce Warrel Dane to this chain.
It was a statement of the absolute unreal talent these 4 individuals brought to the metal scene, and even though it's still played live today it was followed by such tragedy and loss.

I was heartbroken I would have been a God in my neighborhood if they had, plus my mom God rest her soul Lars gave me a set of his drum sticks and my mom made me give them back to him because as my mom said he needed them to play the concert with, I was angry with her for a very long time for that, but at the same time if she hadn't stopped when I seen their bus I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet all of them and they were all very cool and down to earth. Metal bands do the best ballads ever. I'm 52 I was the oldest of 3 brothers until last year. I got em both into metal day one pretty much. My middle brother died in 11 from an asthma attack, he was 36. My little brother last year from fentanyl poisoning, he was 32. He had been lost since our brother died, saying he wanted to go and be with him and such. I hope they found each other. As for me the music is all I have now, I am the last of my line. My acceptance and peace with their loss has eluded me so far and it's a good chance it always will... the oldest goes first not last, point is, tell each other what they mean to you and that you love them. In college I had this roommate who always played metal (he still is one of the best metal guitarists I know). He was always playing crazy stuff with his 5th chords and bottom 3 string hammer-ons and pull offs on our acoustic guitars.
My playing was more rock & blues. It was always a laugh about our musical difference. One day he starts playing this melodic riff, so I turn around and take a look, it's a beautiful passage based on an F#m. So I ask "Wow! What is that song?", he grinned, looked at me out of the corner of his eye and said "Cemetery Gates".

Sad I know. A lot of good rock stars have passed on. I was in shock when Kurt Cobain died along with Chris Cornell and then Chester Bennington and many others. Pantera is by far the best metal band there is in my opinion.I actually met Pantera at an autograph signing in Mountain View California in the early 90s. I still have the autographed picture I gave it to my daughter to arrange my son's service and put it on display. My son Michael was shot multiple times and murdered last May of 2021 in New Mexico. I loved him more than words can describe. He loved Pantera it was his favorite band.

Belong to me at last
Through all those complex years
I thought I was alone
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died I should've cried
And spared myself some pain
You left me incomplete
All alone as the memories still remain
The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates
The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates

Next to Megadeth's ,"In My Darkest Hour",this is so emotional and more badass. Dedicated to my biological father who was only 42 and died of a heroin overdose. April 8,1989 is a day that I'll never forget. I still wholeheartedly miss him so much. CONTINUE TO RIP DADDY!!!!!
My condolences mate drugs are a bad habit that cut life to short

Just been listening to 'in my darkest hour', love both! Sorry for your loss!
This song is in my top ten of all time and I’ve been doing this more than 60 years ❤
Best Heavy Metal song of all-time in my oopinion. It will never get old to me.
Believe it or not my family actually played this at a family member’s funeral. Now that’s metal. That funeral is was got me into Pantera and the rest is history
My mom will have this played at hers. Was one of her wishes she told me as a child and one I'll always remember
Sorry for your loss, losing one's mother is tough.
Hope it gets played at my funeral
Fuck yeah \m/
Yeah this definitely happened
Reverend he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes
Nothing new for him to see,
I didn't ask him why
I will remember
The love our souls had sworn to make
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see now is your
Well I guess you took my youth
And gave it all away
Like the birth of a new found joy
This love would end in rage
And when she died I couldn't cry
The pride within my soul
You left me incomplete
All alone as the memories now unfold
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates
Sometimes when I'm alone,
I wonder aloud,
If you're watching over me
Some place far abound
I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past
Then set my soul free,
Belong to me at last
Through all those complex years
I thought I was alone
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died
I should've cried and spared myself some pain
You left me incomplete,
All alone as the memories still remain
The way we were,
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word,
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates
The way we were,
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain.

I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery

The perfect rock song doesn't exi.....
Not a huge Pantera fan but I play guitar and bass and can appreciate legendary music
Phil could sing, damn.
and its all gone now
lucastrav inot gone he sings in another band right now :)
And Vinne paul plays in a band calls Hell Yeah check it out :)
Phil is so great singer and Dime was so great too. Rip Dime😦😦😦
he did pretty well with that pantera glam album he was on
Damn sure is
These guys... the voclas, the guittars, the drumms. Everything.
Jesus. I dont think a single noun in that was correct 😂
@@FACEL1FT 🤣🤣🤣💯
voclas guittars and drumms, my faverit instermunts
I lave pintara! Damebag Darnel is so a gud guittarest!!
Walking down the street...AWESOME
Everyone forgot about the bassist... But without him, the song would have sounded differently
Phil had the most amazing voice on this album. It was the perfect mix of classic Metal styling but with added brutality.
I'll always respect what he did after, but this was the absolute pinnacle and helped shape my vocal style.
Damn well said! I completely agree. Phil was my everything when I was 15 years old in ‘92
This album has Phil's best overall vocal performances
Happy birthday Dimebag !!
One of Pantera's best songs as well as metal ballads in general, really. In my opinion, right up there with Fade to Black, Return to Serenity, Soulitude, etc.
Holy Shit, you just hit on 3 out 4 of the exact same songs listen to on a regular basis. Nice.
Tonight the Abbott Brothers ROCK once again! RIP Vinnie Paul
Abbott brothers suck cocks in hell

get it?
i have no life
First panthera song iv ever listened to wow
I remember when this album first came out I had it on cassette tape. I worked at a Bar/Restaurant in Petoskey MI and i got the DJ to play this song.
It was hilarious to see the drunk yuppies all go out on the dance floor to slow dance then mill around in confusion when the song went full metal head.
Me and like 12 other Metal Bastids rushed the dance floor and turned it into a mosh pit.
Heard this today while I was stuck in traffic in Boston. Turned this song up and had my top down on my car. People were looking at me like I was a demon. Lol. Rest well Dime. \m/
+Kat “Zepluv” Hamilton topless or not THIS FUCKING SONG RULES!!!!, i want to see pics though of you topless!!!
Lmao
Welcome to "DALLAS, TEXAS "! LOL! ..."PANTERA WERE AND STILL INCREDIBLE OVER HERE"!~☆
***** My car stupid, not me! Christ!
+Kat “Zepluv” Hamilton Fuck them if they don't like it !! This is still America, and Dime was destined for greater things if not for some dude with a head full of bad wiring. I have a 2000 watt preamp with 10" MTX subs, and jam this SO loud my ears ring for hours lol R.I.P. I was just watching it on my chromecast, and I SO wish they were still playing !! Even my football fantasy team has "Always" been Cowboys From Hell :)
In my honest opinion, this is probably the best Heavy Metal song EVER written. It has guitar riffs with more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box, high end vocals in key, catchy choruses, meaningful verses, and a bad-ass solo by the man that made metal in 90's cool, so soulful and groovy.
YOUR ALMOST CORRECT !
***** How about you, what's your idea of the perfect heavy metal song?
This is completely bad ass, but Walk & This Love have always been my favorites
They are great songs, but when I think of heavy metal perfection, I think of songs such as Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden, The Sentinel by Judas Priest and Cemetary Gates by Pantera. If someone disputes my claim, I don't get offended and ask what their opinion is, because I actually want to hear that song, just like when I asked Gina DelVecchio what her idea of the perfect metal song was. I want to hear it! :)
nice opinion
Hearing this song live is fucking amazing, it almost made me shed a tear if I’m being honest, Pantera forever man🤘🏻
I don't think there's ever going to be a guitar solo that good again
My brother used this song to introduce me to Pantera 20 years ago, now that he's gone it just hits different. Miss you Jay!
Sorry for your loss. I had a group of 6 friends literaly from the other side of the trax in NYC and they brought Pantera into ma life in 93. Only 1 of them is alive today. Sad man. Jus sad.
@@kirk4478 I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friends. Music has a way of bringing people together, and healing the pain.
@@beauty_bykristi5740 Yes it does,,Yes it does🤙
es muy duro por lo que estas pasando..
I just came hear saying the same thing about my kids mom.
This song reminds me of my daughter who took her life at 14. I always liked this song as a teenager. Who knew it would mean so much more to me now
I’m sorry you had to go through that... hope it gets better RIP.
My husband is on life support for so many times now it’s hard to keep up. Covid rules n can’t see him but tmrw is Monday w admin back. A new day! Easter Sunday today! I’m very sorry for the loss of your daughter. RIP 🌹🙏🏻✝️😇
I'm so sorry for your loss
@@lindagreaney5136 I hope your husband will recover - prayers.
I'm a parent myself and I can't imagine going through what you have but keep your head up and much love bro!!
This is an absolute masterpiece that has really held up. Maybe the heaviest sad/slow song ever. To make make something this sick and crunchy sound morose is a feat, the lyrics can be tear jerkers or something to yell along with in your car.
Still as good the 500th listen.
This band is so ridiculously talented!
Lost my mom to COVID a few months back, she wasn’t really a Pantera fan, but my dad was and I guarantee they’re up there and she’s hanging with John Lennon and telling my dad to turn down the rock music! For everyone who has lost someone “stay strong, rock on” 🤘
bro I got the covid. at first I thought this wasn't shit. now I'm weak as hell. its really not a joke.
@@FFNOJG get well soon mate
Hugs bro
Awwww my condolence ❤️
My dad got me into pantera he just passed away
“And when she died, I should’ve cried and spared myself some pain”
I don’t know why but that lyric has always been a major gut punch for me.
Hell yeah bro, cause crying releases your pain, and some of us keep it in….
Masterpiece of Mankind.
It feels so good to be back here and hear this masterpiece each and every effing day ❤
R.I.P. Vinnie now together with his brother. :(
Also with their mother too.
RIP Vinnie Paul, you will always be remembered as one of the greatest drummers ever
He is why I picked up drums to me he is the greatest
The way dimebag follows phill at the end with those guitar squeals dude had such unique sound
A message to the future generations: "DON'T LET THIS SONG DIE" 💞👌😊👍
When the solo starts playing, my mind goes crazy
