My wife has 2016 RS3 from new, so here's a bit of advice for anyone who wants to buy such a car: if something goes wrong but you have full Audi service history, even though the car is out of warranty, Audi will do huge discount on the cost of repair as long as you use them to do it. In her case the haldex clutch failed after 48k miles and it was replaced for ~50% of the cost. We had similar story with her previous car which was an Evo, timing chain needed replacement shortly after warranty ran out and it was heavily discounted by mitsubishi.
Wont really apply to a lot of poeple though, majority of the owners will modify the car, and any modifications to the car, audi will refuse to give a discount. However it is good to always service it at a main dealer if you dont intend on mods.
That is the '"goodwill" warranty that almost every car manufacturer has. Applied to out of warranty but still low mileage and full dealer service history cars. Of course the powertrain can't be modified in that case. Usually the parts are discounted almost 100% and owner has to pay for the labor only. Most of the time it ends up to be a 50/50 split of the total costs.
Only trouble is you're paying main dealer rates, and they don't have half the knowledge of the guys here. You may get a master tech, but really they are taking a new engine straight of a pallete to fit.

I had my 2015 a4 80,000 miles it was drinking oil 1 quart every tank of gas. The back bumper was black. And it started to rattle. So I took it to Audi of Fairfield CT and they said one of the spark plugs was broken. So they told me it needed an engine. They quoted me $12,000 for a new engine from Audi installed so I was shocked when you said €12,000 for a used engine.😮
Fantastic video again, very interesting. On one of your earlier videos, can’t remember exactly which one but it was another 5 cylinder engine, think you said the 5 cylinder was one of the strongest and problem free. What would be your thoughts on this one, in relation to its failure. Lack of proper and scheduled maintenance, or driven to hard? I was thinking the same very odd.... especially with all the random parts.... engine is in a state but outside it looks new and mint looks like somebody just polished a turd... probs spent all his money making it look like a face lift lol
I have owned several Audi eg RS5, R8, RS6 all I have sold and will be selling in future at around 75-85000km full dealer service etc. what I can tell you that the folks who buy these cars have no clue what they dealing with. They go for local service to some friend to do the stuff cheap. The lad who bought my RS5 eg. Did such a thing and they even put him none Audi approved oil as it was cheaper. Within 1 month he called me for help so I sent him to the dealer service which I was going (at another city as they are much better there) and finally he paid the price. What I mean is don’t buy a performance car if you are not ready to pay original parts to authorized service. The damage you ll do will cost in the end double if not a whole engine. In general if you can’t buy a car twice then its not for you
Guys just wanted to add something. All Audis I owned although being kept in garage they had issues with rust underneath mainly subframe. It was only surface but wasn’t looking good. Would be nice to make a video of how someone can treat the parts that usually get affected, what products and process can be followed etc
As the saying goes, if you can’t afford to run one new, then you definitely can’t afford to run a second hand one. There isn’t a barge pole long enough with which not to touch this car.
No way the guy was going to repair this car looking at the damage and seeing how it had been serviced with second hand spares that aren't even fully compatible with the car, he will no doubt cheap it out to a back street garage who have zero clue, you might see it back again one day when the guy surrenders to the reality of the repair, another reason i never buy second hand exotica, few people are willing to hand over the money it takes to keeps these cars tip top, buying an Audi RS but spending on it like it is a VW Lupo.
After watching this........I still haven't seen a White interior 😂😂😂 I suppose this is what happens when Sanjay relies on his Mother banging Her Flip flop as a Wakeup call 😂😂
The problems on these RS cars comes from owners skipping or doing “budget” servicing. You’ve got to look after these motors. These cars deserve proper maintenance.
When you don’t know what you’re doing leave it alone and get professional help nice car with an owner who doesn’t realise the cost of good maintenance 🙈👍
Who ever owned this car, bought it and thought its an AUDI it can be thrashed and not serviced. I just don't get it when people don't look after something that so expensive. Id say more money than brains but lets be honest probably no money and no brains.
well it is an RS, it should be able to take the punishment. look at BMW turbos, from the 335 to the new b43 4 cylinder, you dont see them failing at 50k miles
I also noticed this too. SO odd. Either it is a facelift rs3 and somehow had the engine replaced with the older CZGB engine but then the ecu wont work with it. So most likely it is a PFL rs3 with a facelift bumper conversion and retro fit virtual cockpit.
@@aidencoder you are right, the czgb was still being used even on 2018-2019 audi RSQ3's whilst the rs3 from 2017+ was using the new engine DAZA (2017-2018) or DNWA (2019+). But all 2017+ RS3's had the DAZA engine and not the one in this video which means this is a 2015-2016 Pre facelift rs3 with the virtual cockpit and front bumper conversion from the facelift rs3.
A more logical reason is it’s a PFL that’s had facelift bumper, headlights and virtual cockpit retrofitted. No doubt it’s crashed and repaired using FL parts.
I also noticed this too. SO odd. Either it is a facelift rs3 and somehow had the engine replaced with the older CZGB engine but then the ecu wont work with it. So most likely it is a PFL rs3 with a facelift bumper conversion and retro fit virtual cockpit like mac said.
The comments about Audi reliability as a tad unfair. A lot of this issues you see on this channel are down to poor/cheap maintenance. Bought my RS3 from New in 2018. Has just under 70k miles on it and it's never missed a beat. Gets serviced at Audi every year. I do an in between oil change myself, and never scrimp on keeping it maintained. Always use super unleaded and a fuel system cleaner twice a year. Judging by the sound of the owner he's some cheapskate Asian kid who wanted the high performance motor but wanted to maintain it on the cheap. Also looks like it's been messed with in more ways than one! Look after these things and I'd say they generally will be very reliable
For the loss of a nail in a horseshoe leads to the loss of a horse, which leads to the loss of the rider, which leads to the loss of the battle, which in turn leads to the loss of a whole kingdom. The person can't afford the car seems the biggest reason, as well as being an Audi.
Here is an advice for all of you, after many years on using nearly europea cars only, i had and still have only big issues, although i'm crazy o taking care about my cars. The fact is, the most reliable cars are not the european ones but Toyota and Honda. You can ask the ADAC insurance the biggiest one in Europe about which are the most cars they have to pick up and the answer will be everytime : BMW, MERCEDES, Audi. That is why we an find so many Information on how to repair These cars by ourselves and that is why there are so many mechanics out there who make Videos about These cars. They decided to repair These cars because they have go bad fast and in so they have sutely everetime work, forever. DON'T BUY THOSE CARS!!! THEY ARE A BEAUTIFUL TRASH!!
The numbers dont really add up , these are nearly disposable , drive it and if it goes bang , bin it. probably ok if you can do your own spanner work , do Audi make a decent engine any more ??
No. Only the bad ones appear on these videos, like EVERY other car that shows up in similar videos. This engine was abused somehow, mismatched plugs, coils, and probably a really bad tune with a failed injector thrown in for good measure.
Wait until you get a BMW. You have to not only do preventative maintenance, but you have to do preventative replacement of parts. "Oh that coolant overflow is 4 years old, might be time to replace it", "Oh that radiator neck looks brittle after only a few years, better replace the entire SULEV radiator at great expense just in case", "Oh that transfer case gear might wear out someday, better replace it and refill the fluid with special BMW fluid at $40 a liter." Like this but on and on.
When you live with a 300hp+ audi, you have to have always an extra 5k on your bank account for service costs. Edit: I still rely on my 2.0tfsi A6 4F, dont have 5k extra.
Not sure if you're joking, but these I5's are strong and can take tons of power, reliably. What happened here was a serious lack of proper maintenance, and most likely a cheap tune.
@@mediocreman2 Not sure if you've noticed over the last couple of years the amount of VW and Audi vehicles that have been laying in garages all over the world due to oil problems. They need oil changes every 6 thousand miles to stop the engine grinding themselves to bits. And now with the variable oil pressure engines to save on fuel emissions its even worse. Compared to the mercedes engines there pretty much on another page.
Looks like it was not maintained properly at all, people don’t realise fast cars need a bigger budget for maintenance. You will be driving it harder and faster than a normal car, it will need to be maintained by people who know what they are talking about, like you guys, you can’t drive the bag out of an RS3 and think bollicking around with that sort of crap maintenance won’t bite you in the balls, hard 🙁🇮🇪

Iron block on facelift car? or retrofited facelift?
Fragile engines that need to be looked after correctly and WITHOUT skimping.
From Birmingham? Bet its clocked (or mileage blocker) and crash damaged 😂

How can a car get trashed with less than 60k on the odometer.
Vag cars
For you, my uncles audi s5 dsg gear box failed on 50k miles 12k for a gear box
Probably got milage blocker fitted
As the saying goes, if you can’t afford to run one new, then you definitely can’t afford to run a second hand one. There isn’t a barge pole long enough with which not to touch this car.
Happy owner 😊
No way the guy was going to repair this car looking at the damage and seeing how it had been serviced with second hand spares that aren't even fully compatible with the car, he will no doubt cheap it out to a back street garage who have zero clue, you might see it back again one day when the guy surrenders to the reality of the repair, another reason i never buy second hand exotica, few people are willing to hand over the money it takes to keeps these cars tip top, buying an Audi RS but spending on it like it is a VW Lupo.
Sad situation for a vehicle like this
Never seen a white interior on one of these
After watching this........I still haven't seen a White interior 😂😂😂
I suppose this is what happens when Sanjay relies on his Mother banging Her Flip flop as a Wakeup call 😂😂
such an awesome car to have such issues, what went wrong?
The problems on these RS cars comes from owners skipping or doing “budget” servicing. You’ve got to look after these motors. These cars deserve proper maintenance.
no. these cars are only built to last untill the warranty expires.
over engineered shite all of them.
buy a toyota and it'll run for 40 years.
When you don’t know what you’re doing leave it alone and get professional help nice car with an owner who doesn’t realise the cost of good maintenance 🙈👍
The 50 pound diagnostic, there it is again 😂👍🏻
Who ever owned this car, bought it and thought its an AUDI it can be thrashed and not serviced. I just don't get it when people don't look after something that so expensive. Id say more money than brains but lets be honest probably no money and no brains.
Exactly
well it is an RS, it should be able to take the punishment. look at BMW turbos, from the 335 to the new b43 4 cylinder, you dont see them failing at 50k miles
Indeed, don’t get me wrong. Push the car hard but follow it with maintenance. Dodgy spark plugs, random coil packs. Oil changes are cheap 🤣
@@PatricioGarcia1973 name one BMW model that can take this level of neglect and still run.
Nice vid again, i think your diagnostic price is cheap. Rocker cover off plus inspection camera use just 50 pound?

What could the owner get for this engine to offset the cost of a replacement?
£1
Turbo 400
Intake manifold 300
That's about it.
Im gonna take a wild guess and say this was tuned….
Am i the only one who is seeing a preface lift RS3 engine in this facelift??
I don't think the old iron block engines went out until a bit after the face-lift when the daza came in.
I can't help but notice it looks like a FL car, with virtual cockpit and the FL front end.... but a PFL CZGB engine?? Very odd.
Surely insurance should cover it?
52k mikes and engine's dead already..... expensive mistake, just take it to the right shop, like Vag Technic
sounds like a normal audi engine
Why is the car a facelift and the engine a preface lift ?or have I missed something
It's been converted to facelift spec but still a pre car
The numbers dont really add up , these are nearly disposable , drive it and if it goes bang , bin it. probably ok if you can do your own spanner work , do Audi make a decent engine any more ??
Are Audis glass cannons?
No. Only the bad ones appear on these videos, like EVERY other car that shows up in similar videos. This engine was abused somehow, mismatched plugs, coils, and probably a really bad tune with a failed injector thrown in for good measure.
@@einfelder8262 agreed, from the 1st couple of minutes of watching you can tell the car has not been well looked after
Are you intentionally using the UDS aggressive mode in VCDS? Many times it reads a lot of fantom faults. Not in this case with the lambda obviously 😁
Since VCDS 16, it is the default. They are not phatontom codes, just ones that are usually masked.
VAG vehicles requires a lot of prevention maintenance to survive.
@@mediocreman2 when I meant preventive maintenance i included that
Audi RS3 and no money. That’s a disaster waiting to happen.. Worst case the owner has to pay off the car for the next 5 years or so..
When you live with a 300hp+ audi, you have to have always an extra 5k on your bank account for service costs.
Edit: I still rely on my 2.0tfsi A6 4F, dont have 5k extra.
Owner doesn't deserve that car. Abusive.

Great video.
Most people who have these lovely cars don't know what's just around the corner.
Shame these engines are made of Cadbury's chocolate.
Shit fuel bad map cracked the crown 💯
Looks like it was not maintained properly at all, people don’t realise fast cars need a bigger budget for maintenance. You will be driving it harder and faster than a normal car, it will need to be maintained by people who know what they are talking about, like you guys, you can’t drive the bag out of an RS3 and think bollicking around with that sort of crap maintenance won’t bite you in the balls, hard 🙁🇮🇪
This is why I wouldn't buy a popular, "cheap", fast car. They've all likely been ragged and poorly maintained. Buying one privately is beyond brave imo!
