Lost "Puddle Jumper Pro" Surfboard Review Ep 131

- In this episode, Noel Salas and Nate Yeomans put the Lost Puddle Jumper Pro through the Paces. Nate likes the shortboard-hybrid outline and says it goes great in 1-6 foot surf. Nate loves riding it as a quad, while Noel thinks the thruster fin set up gives it a little more stability. Noel finds the board is easy to surf, user friendly, and carries good speed in both the quad and thruster set ups. Noel rides his Puddle Jumper Pro in both the Light Speed and PU/Poly construction and preferred PU/Poly. Nate prefers the Black Sheep construction because it felt balanced and was super durable.
Noel's Boards:
Stock EPS/Epoxy & PU/Poly
5''7" x 19.25 x 2.38 (27.55L)
Noel's Height 5'9" (175.26cm) and Weight 172 lb (78.01 kg)
Nate's Board:
Stock Black Sheep/PU/Poly
5'8" x 19.50 x 2.40 (28.55L)
Nate's height 6'0" (15.24cm)and Weight 185 lb (83.91 kg)
Great review. I am 60, but still a regular surfer - 3-4 x per week, Aussie East Coast beach breaks. Totally agree with Nate, PJPro is a great daily driver. Very easy to paddle into any size wave, knee to head heigh. Fast & just goes! Very easy to turn & I feel like my surfing has improved on this board. Thruster setup is the one. I've been using the AMs FCS2, good drive good hold, but does not feel stiff. I have it in PU & light speed in the same dims. Both boards are great, no difference in float & paddle power, but I like the more solid feel of PU under my feet, especially in windy & choppy conditions - I guess that's a personal thing really. I was a bit worried that the tail would slide out in punchier surf, but I haven't found that at all so far. I had a Subdriver 2.0, prior to the PJPro, it's good, but also as Nate said, I have found the PJPro much much easier to surf. I know it sounds funny to say, but the PJPro makes me feel like I'm surfing perhaps better than I should be - at least better than I would on other short boards I've had. I've been having much more fun & feel like I've been able to do more on any given wave - isn't that what we are all looking for? For average beach break conditions, this board is currently my No.1 all time favourite. Beyond stoked!
Stoked on your post… it will help many. Cheers.
Thanks Noel. Look I was a bit hesitant about this board for a while. I had thought it looked pretty similar to the Subdriver 2.0 and that maybe it came out as a bit of a marketing ploy - Lost have new models coming out all the time. But I was dead wrong. This board is gold! If anyone is on the fence about giving it a go - 'jump' over and get on one!
I love this board. Most underrated board but that will not be for long thanks to your vid. Thanks for bringing it to everyone’s attention
Currently my fav board for average everyday (neither pumping nor flat) days in SoCal. Best performance small wave shortboard. I’ve tried soooo many models. This and the RNF retro are my go to SoCal sleds
Thanks for posting
This thing rips. Now have it in PU and Blacksheep. Big thanks to Noel and Nate for all the great insight!
Hope you stoked to try the new Pyzel red tiger or puddle jumper/sub scorcher X aipa collab I’m so hyped for all the boards!
Absolutely
Sweet review ! Thanks Noel and Nate .
Yet again. Unreal review.
Sick review Braddah Noel✝️🤙🇺🇸🙏
Great to see u getting back to 100%!
Always a pleasure ❤
Another great one. Can't wait for a Red Tiger/White Tiger review. Wonder how the White Tiger will compare to something like the RNF 96'.
I spent a bit of time testing quad setups on my PJP Lightspeed and thought I could save ya’ll some time.
For context, my HP surfboards are around 25-26L. My PJP is 27.5L. It’s for smaller surf on the east coast of Australia. I surf a Driver 2.0 with either AM1s or Futures Pivot’s when it’s bigger/better
I first demoed the Rasta quads. These have a 50/50 foil on the rear fins. They were fast, loose, and felt nice through bottom turns. Really liked them but wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on something with another setup.
I then got the Pyzel 5-fin set. These are a larger medium fin. I thought they would be perfect. The flat foiled rear fins looked like they would suit the fin box placement. I surfed them in slightly hollower waves and found them unpredictable and would sometime slide out on the bottom turn. I really didn’t like these.
Finally I took a gamble on a setup I thought I wouldn’t like - Ando Blackstix (they’re a large fin) in the front and QD4.0 Blackstix in the rear. And remember, I normally ride stiffer fins. The first wave I took off on I felt the flex and thought I was take these straight back out. 3 waves later and I knew I landed on the right setup. The flex helps spring out of bottom turns to generate speed and release through tops turns. It provides that spark that you want from a quad. Strangely I found these more predictable than stiffer fins, but I put that down to the 80/20 foil, and you know, water hugs to curves.
Quad fins in preferential order:
1. Ando Blackstix with QD4.0 Blackstix rears
2. Rasta quad
3. Pyzel Tri-Quad
great show!
🤙🏼if I can do a 360 at 60 years old on that board than there’s hope.
Fantastic review again Noel. Was about buy an Uber Driver XL after watching your 2019 review. Now reconsidering - at same length boards are roughly same vol and dims. This looks maybe a bit more user friendly for the “domesticated” surfer carrying a few old injuries and a couple extra lbs , like Nate so well puts it?
i cant get off my original Puddle Jumper!! i guess i should try the other models 😀
There is no possible way you'll dislike the puddle jumper HP!
Oh man theres soo many great boards out there the lost camp seem the bomb!
Like the idea of a rnf96 swordfish or puddle jumper pro 🤪🤔
nice show
I hate asking questions like this but Im struggling to pick one. I live in Bali and part time in Lombok and surf beach breaks and reefs. What would you prefer, the PJ pro, the Mini Ghost, or the Dominator 2? I have a 5’7 mashup and absolutely love it as it surfs up to shoulder high really well as a 2+1, is loose and the construction is out of the world good. Im brutal with my boards and Ive had my Mashup nearly a year and it hasnt got a dent on it (touchwood) yet. No foot wells even, absolutely incredible construction considering Im heavy footed and never in my 40 years of surfing had a board with out foot wells after 10 surfs. So Im looking for something to fit in the waist to a bit over head range.
Great, now I need another board 🤦♂🤣
Hi Neil, I understand that RNF96 and Puddle Pro are very different, but I think a lot of us (including myself), weekend warriors and family guy, what’s the best board for us to pocket surfing and also forgiving!
Thank you,
Regards,
Marco Lima
Probably both 😅 I think it depends on what the conditions are at your break
mayhem is legend 🤙
Put a set of your pivot's into my board a few months ago. Board rides great (for my poor skills)! Nice quick turns at my local beach break...tks!
Stoked to hear that
Which do you prefer Subdriver 2.0 or Puddle Jumper Pro in light speed? Versatility from 2ft - 6ft.
Great review! Great content, as usual!!! Is there a CI Free Scrubber review in your near future? Just curious?
If & when ya do it, maybe give a little insight on the crazy looking fins Curren's riding in his.
Not at this time… I ordered a couple months ago. No boards.. sorry
Can you do a video on the different types of epoxy designs from Hayden epoxy, spine tech , JS🙏
HI Noel, great interview as usual thanks. Would you ditch the HP over the pro? or do you think it still has it's place in tiny waves. have been loving the HP as a twin plus trailer. Ordered the Pro for even more performance.
I like the HP better in smaller surf. It’s faster in transition and gravels better
Hey Noel!
Awesome sit down with Nate! I wish I had ten percent of his board collection. So rad!
The only question I have is how does the PJ Pro compare to the Phantom? It seems like the two overlap a lot.
Would you say the Phantom is more grovelier or the PJ Pro is? Which would be better as 1 board quiver??
I'm Surfing Southern California mostly.
I think the Phantom would be better in overhead high waves but I'm not sure. Hoping you could shed some light.
Thanks, and keep the reviews coming.
Phantom is better in overhead waves. PJ Pro is better in head high and under
@@surfnshowreviews7777 That's pretty much in line with what I was thinking, I just needed to hear it from the authority. Thank you for confirming that. From what I've gathered the Phantom is good sized at around your height and the PJ Pro is good sized an inch or two shorter. From watching your reviews, I think PU is the way to go on both these particular models
@@perrystevens5913 Sounds solid to me
@@surfnshowreviews7777 All that's left to do is to grab a set of Momentum Series 5 Fins and then ready to rock and roll. Yewwwwwwww!!!!
I remember you mentioned the NB2 is also an all around 1-6 one board quiver.. how would you compare between them?
The NB2 carries more speed and pivots faster with a bit more release due to its wider chop tail. The PJ Pro is smoother rail to rail and might be a little easier to surf. If I had to choose I say NB2 for my style surfing… I like that board… it pushes me out of my comfort zone and helps me surf more radical.
@@surfnshowreviews7777would you say that PJpro is more like RW squash ?
@@RBNK157 yes
Noel what was the size and liter of the puddle jumper pro you tested? thanks for all the in depth reviews .🤙🏼
My board details are in the You Tube description field below each video. I also put Nate’s info there too
Excellent and thorough review! What's differentiates the PJ Pro from the RNF '96? Can't wait to see how the CI G-Skate stacks up to these hybrid boards you have been reviewing! Great to meet some of the fam Nate!
The PJ Pro and 96 are not a good match up. The 96 is a fish. I think the 96 and G Skate will be a hood match up. We will do it too. Stay Tuned
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Awesome! Thanks for the clarification, looking forward to that!
Noel what step up do you recomend for a short guy? ive seen that peope recomend the ghost, but because the centre is forward from centre im afraid my stance will be too short if i get a step up on that model. cheers, great channel
Any chance you can try a demo or maybe find a used Ghost for less risk of it not working. I have a bit of a narrow stance and it worked well for me at 5’9”.
Blast champ
How pjp comper to umber driver xl?can this board handle 6foot beach brake?
It might struggle a bit in hollow 6’ Beachies. I suggest Driver 3.0
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks. i think the red tiger xl will be my mext board hope to see xero gravety review and the red tiger
be well noale
This board looks epic, how dose it compare to the lost psycho killer which is the board I'm riding at the moment?
The PJ Pro is faster and paddles better compared to the PK. The PK needs a wave to go good… the PJ Pro has more glide.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 cool, thanks the reply, do you think they have the same wave range?
@@DuncanKing-pi9fq I think the PK in PU/Poly has a better wave range in overhead surf. I seems like it might have more rocker.
I have a regular puddle jumper and rnf96, both in light speed. What daily driver would you recommend to go well with these two?
The PJ Pro is a good fit for your 3 board quiver.
Hey Noel, what’s your favorite performance twin for waco and favorite 2 +1 for the pool as well? Thanks!
Favorite Twin… my new Model called the “Deuce”. It’s a Collaboration with Rusty. Drops in a month or so. Stay tuned.
Favorite Twin + Trailer Modern Fish by Akika Aipa for the Pool.
My Deuce is amazing in the pool… no need for Twin + Trailer board. Just saying
Great review!! Looking to order one soon. I weigh 80kg and have a rnf lightspeed and driver 3 both in 29.5L. Would u drop 1 litre like Nate has^
Thanks
I like my volume the same… you can drop roughly 1L of EPS Epoxy techs. I think it feels more 1/2L
Okay cool thanks
How does the puddle jumper pro compare to the rnf 96?
No comparison really. Hard to compare a small wave performance board with a performance outline to a fish board
Hi Noel. What are differences between this board and the Rocket Redux?
thanks
It’s been a while since I’ve ridden the R Redux but I remember it pivoting faster and maybe a bit looser. Both boards are super fun and easy to shred
@@surfnshowreviews7777 sweet, thanks for the reply Noel. Have a good day.
Aloha - difference between PJ Pro and FW Dominator 2.0 for head high Hawaii daily driver please? Can't decide!
I like the D2 better… it pivots faster, smoother rail to rail as a Quad, and Carrie’s more speed.
You can also shred the D2 with a Twin + Trailer…. Super fun.
hi noel! 2 questions:
First as a heavy front footer, what attributes should I look for on a surfboard, more foam over the front foot and a higher rear rocker for more sensitivity or since I'm going to drive the board more with the front foot should I look for more rocker in the front and less in the back like this model?
Sencond as I saw on your website, you categorize this board as a daily driver, I thought this board would be more for surfing 1 to 3 feet more in the groveler or swpb category and I was looking more at boards like the sub driver 2.0, js xero gravity , inferno 72, red tiger for surfing from 2ft to 4ft in sub par conditions. exposed this what are your thoughts ,which board should i be looking at?
thanks for your time
difference: Puddle jumper pro vs subdriver?
PJ Pro seems to be faster, paddle better, and easier to surf. Sub Driver 2.0 is better suited for front footed surfers.
Is lowers the new BUILDERS emporium???
@Nateyeomans how do you know which board to ever take out!!
Puddle jumper pro vs the sub driver 2.0 ?
PJ Pro is easier to shred. It’s faster and more forgiving. The SD2 offers tighter turns in the pocket and maybe a bit more drive on rail but harder to surf. The PJ Pro has more forgiving rails and maybe a little less rocker overall
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thank you so much. I appreciate you and what you do for the community!
Your reviews are awesome but always in sick waves….ever thought about doing some in shitty waves? More real world results for us real world wave riders lol 🤣
More of a promotion than a review.
Some products sell themselves and an honest reviewer is simply an interpreter for the way an inanimate object communicates... Noel and Nate are helping us to invest our $1000 wisely and Biolos has earned all the love his designs get!
@@Miles_Goodson_Bangs_Kids no doubt, but my point stands. An analysis/ evaluation of the board’s pros and cons was not really addressed. More of a development of the product which is interesting, but not really worthy of being called a “review”
I dont think there are many cons 😅 lost have so many models for different waves so they are designed well & made well. Its only the conditions & surfer that differ
It’s an honest review, I think. Not trying to hide anything especially seeing as Nate is one of the creators of the board
Totally agree with you burrito. These and the one's with shapers like Britt. The firsthand insight into the board's backstory is great but having those tied to the brands in the video brings a level of bias. Even without it seems hard to find good extensive board reviews nowadays when cons aren't even discussed in the videos. It seems a lot of the time that the only place Noel ever shows his real opinions is here in the comments. I wish he stated those opinions more openly in the videos. I get the whole "every board nowadays is great" thing especially from such esteemed shapers like Matt or Britt but it'd be nice for these videos to be more of a "real review". Still love his vids though haha.
