I've been surfing a lib tech and have to say it's mental. So fast and quick and feels almost as good as surfing an pu. absolutely love it and would recommend it to anyone.
I have this board in 5'7" and have ridden it all Summer. It's one of my favorite boards, especially for little waves because it let's you catch even the smallest ripple. It is NOT corky at all and very much like PU. In fact, I think it feels a bit heavier than my normal boards. Feels really good in the water and when paddling and the LibTech construction is something you need to feel to believe. I highly recommend this board as a small wave board, particularly if you like the PU feel. I personally actually prefer board toward the epoxy feel side of the line, but this thing is all around awesome!! The one thing I will say is that I set it up as a quad with Lost large fins and I thought it took a bit of effort to turn. I rode it as a quad for a month or two to see if I could figure it out, but then switched to thruster set up and it was like a different board. I've heard mixed opinions on which fin set up is optimal, but I think three fins is more fun on this board.
How's it like to duck dive?? Looks like it'd be quite floaty...
+DuncanBantertyne It is. The 5'7" has @34L of volume so at 152 lbs, it's way more than I need, but I bought this as a groveler so it's difficulty to duck dive isn't so important to me. If you're thinking of this board as a daily driver and size is correctly I doubt you'll have any issues. By way of comparison, my "normal" shortboards are all around 28L so this is much more floaty than I need, but that's why I bought it.

I've been riding lib tech surfboards for three years now (since they were first available). By far the best non-custom made boards I have ridden. They ride just like PUs, I don't even notice a real difference in the feel. As far as strength, they are super hard to ding. I have had one blow off the roof of a car and be fine. I have also hit rocks and barely even scratched it. I've had minimal heel dents as well. Southwest did manage to crack my bowl series lib across the top of the tail right where the fin boxes start. I just put some tape on it and rode it in head high surf for 5 days and it was fine (still haven't "fixed" it). I really think lib is the way of the future, just can't wait for more shapes.

Just pulled the trigger on one! First ever new board for me and after watched every shred show I feel pretty good buying this sight unseen. Now lets see how this thing handles bouncing of some Caribbean reef! Living in a country with no surf shops it's important to know what to pick before you pay the $300 bucks to get it here with out every surfing it. Thanks for the education!
Glad to see a Lib board being reviewed. I have surfed the Bowl and now surf the aireola and love them. It's so much less stress than a PU made out of fragile glass... Traveling is not worrying at all. Slowly building a lib quiver and being happy about it!

+Isaac Greene Hi Isaac. I like my board. Granted I haven't ridden a ton of short boards. It's super versatile but needs at least waist high surf to work. Works well up to double overhead. I have been riding the Lib fins as thruster and quad setup.
This thing absolutely flies. Super fast and lots of drive. You can slide the tail around super easy. It can handle overhead waves pretty well too. When I first rode it, it felt like I was sinking when I was paddling around. But after I got used to it I could catch waves lien nothing. I've been riding mine for about 4 months and I have a massive foot indent under my front foot. I kind of like it because my foot sort of locks into my board when I stand up. Other than that the durability is unbelievable.
Hi Chris, Hi All!! I own a LIB Puddle Jumper since Sept'15 and I'm stoked!! I'm 5'11/160lbs high-intermediate/experienced surfer and I go with the 5'3'' (Normal dims. 5'11/6'0 - 26.5L/27.2L). Smooth feeling but sensitive and seriously reactive too. All kind of waves from 0.5m windswell to good 6ft. Really happy and the board seems extremely durable! I really reccomand as step down board!! cheers
I just got a puddle jumper. So far i have surfed it in some not so good OH waves and in some good waist to head high waves. It really is a well balanced board, mine is a 5'5" and I weight about 135lbs. It has more volume than my other boards, yet does not feel corcky. It holds really well even in bigger surf. Part of me beleives that it's because the board being shorter you can't really get you feet position wrong. I would definitely recommend this board, I wouldn't be scared to have it a little bigger than your normal board as it can only help. My favorite board by far; fast, responsive and very durable. It's a one board quiver for me here down in South Florida, surfs great from 1ft slop to overhead.
Just took my 5' 11" puddle jumper to Costa Rica along with a 6' 1" retro twin PU board. Ended up with a 4-6' swell and the LibTech was a blast to ride. I'm not a hugely experience surfer, but I don't think I'll ever surf anything but the LibTech. I will say this, on the trip home both the PU and LibTech were in the same board bag. The PU board got destroyed by the baggage handlers. The LibTech doesn't have a ding on it.
+Nathan Eastaugh I'm 5' 10" and 155lb and this board floats me almost too well. I should have gone with something a few inches shorter, but I use this as a "fun board". At your size it would probably act as a decent short board.
+Nathan Eastaugh Depending on your ability level, I would say that's close to ideal volume-wise if you'e an intermediate or better surfer. I'm 6'3 235-240lbs and the 5'11 is borderline enough float for a grovel shape, it's more of a decent wave board for me. I need a wave with a bit of push behind it for it to really work. I've got a 6'1" on the way and I think it's going to be perfect and should be a bit better at grovelling with the increased volume. I plan on uploading an entire Puddle Jumper Gopro edit on my page soon.
+Jason Hines Im 6,10 at 183lbs and just got it to intermediate level (going left and right on the outside, wave reading at basic level, super motivated). I like this board as I also do river surfing in Munich where space is limited from left to right, but would also use it as a travel board. You think I will have fun with it at my level and if so what size do you recommend?
5'9 should work well for your ability level and weight.

Surfing in New York this is my go too bored. Works well in pretty much all waves that we get here. I'm 6'2 180ib surf a 5'9 stock dim. Pretty happy. This bored survived some pretty good intense wipeouts, and a small encounter with the jetty

I live in the northwest and have been reppin Lib Tech for a long time(snowboards), but the start of this summer i bought the 5'5 puddle jumper. And i really enjoy it. It weighs basically nothing. This summer i surfed it mostly everyday. I ride it as a thruster. No problems with it, awesome board.
I actually sent in a request for this about a month ago...absolutely love this board! Bought it at Hawaiian South Shore a few months back and had to stand (and jump) on it on the sidewalk to make sure it was legit. Barely made a dent in it! Feels amazing. Love that it's indestructible. I surf it with quads and a knubster. The 5'3" has great float for me at 140lbs. Thanks for reviewing it!

I'm a proud owner of a 5'9" lib tech puddle jumper and I just wanted to give you my opinion on my use of this board plus some opinions of a couple of my friends that I've let use this board have told me, just for some backround info I'm 6 feet tall, weigh about 150lbs and I'm a beginner/average surfer. I got this board in late August of this year and I've had nothing but good times with it. Some of the pros and cons that I've noticed are as follows
Pros:-The large about of foam makes it easy to catch waves without slowing you down, something else that I've noticed about the foam in the board is that it's super light for how much flotation it gives you, and in hindsight I could have easily gone with a 5'7" version of the board instead-I've had multiple idiots jump on my board immediately after hearing that it's very hard to break, and nothing bad has happened to it so I can confirm that it is extremely hard to break/ding, but as you can imagine I wasn't too happy with people jumping on my new board-The shape in the tail is really cool, it tapers down to become really thin at the end, which sorta forces you to put all your weight on the back of the board which in turn makes for more of a pivot like turn when you throw you back foot into it, which I think is a super cool feature-Another aspect that really made me like this board was the fact that it's fast. It's really fast, for a board of its dimensions that is. I was out in the water yesterday and there were times when I thought for sure that I wasn't gonna make the sections in front of me but I managed to pull through with little trouble, so I can Definatly say that the get-up-and-go aspect of this board is a real plus
Cons:-the only real problem that I've had with this board was discoloration, which is a minor issue. I only noticed after I had a sticker on the bottom and removed it 3 months later and I noticed that the board was yellowed around the slit-house of the sticker, which all in all isn't that big of a deal-Another fact that isn't really a con but just something that should be mentioned is the fin boxes, while they say that their fin boxes are completely comptable with the FCS twin tab fins, they are lying a little. I noticed that after I put in my quad set of medium sized FCS fins, there was a little space between the fin box and the fin itself. It hasn't posed a problem as of yet but it does give more flex to the fin than was originally intended and it looks a little scary, as if your fin might snap out if you hit it hard enough. But nothing of the like has happened yet so I can't really say anything bad about it, but I will say that I would be more inclined to use that fins that are supplied by lib-tech rather than a set of FCS fins
Just as a note, compred to the other PU boards and epoxy boards that I've ridden, it rides mostly like a PU board, but it does have flex to it which makes it unlike any other board that I've ridden. This has the advantage of giving you a little extra pop that is best compared to the feeling of coming out of a carve on a really stiff snowboard
All in all this an awesome board that's my number one pick for 80% of the conditions that I surf in, and I have gotten multiple comments from other surfers on my board because they have all heard about it and would love to own one.

+Michael Banach well I'm a relatively beginner surfer and I thought the extra floatation would help me catch waves easier, which it did. Now however I slightly regret getting the 5'9" because it's a little difficult to duck dive and maneuver, but I still love the board as it is because the extra float really comes in handy when I can catch waves that you'd normally need a 8' board for

no, this board is still the first one that I throw in my truck every morning because it gets the job done and I have loads of fun on it. That being said I would go for the 5'7" if you are a more advanced surfer than I am, but either board that you choose you'll have a blast on
Lib Tech is also the only skateboard deck manufacturer to make an alternative construction (modern) board that wasn't completely whack. Solid review!

I surf from Santa Cruz up to Point Reyes most of the time, with the majority of sessions at Cron and Ocean Beach
I have been buying and selling boards to get a feel for what I like and in my limited experience I think Lib Tech has my favorite construction. They are fast and smooth. They feel damp like a PU board when there is any surface texture; and they have a springy epoxy feel that really rockets out of turns.
This is my 3rd Lib Tech surfboard and their best shape have surfed.
I owned a Vert and a Bowl series too. I broke the Vert in half at OB, and sold the Bowl (I wasn't a big fan of the shape) All of them got pressure dents from my feet a lot faster than I thought they would but they all continued/continue to feel lively.
I hope they do more collaborations with other shapers, I would love to try some of my favorite shapes with this construction.

Yes! I had just asked for a Lib Tech review a couple videos ago! I only recently started surfing in SoCal this last July and I've been trying to figure out which board is for me.
I've found that the greatest resource by far is your show. It definitely helped me pick my first board that wasn't a beat up board meant for a much taller/heavier person. Then that broke, then I broke its replacement.. Because of that I was looking at "stronger" designs and now I have a used firewire since Lib techs are pretty rare to find used.

I have this board. I traveled to El Salvador with it at the end of September. Surfed a right point break called Punta Mango. It dampened like a PU board. Paddled and floated like my boards in this volume range. I'm not a fan of the fin boxes. I like using it as a quad with mayhem fins. With them spread apart to add another pivot point off the bottom. They say all fin keys work but you really need the Lib tech key for longevity of the hex bolt. Fun board love the durability and versatility.
im a beginner surfer, have only ridden lib and a torq 8'. I got a vert 5'10" and an extension ramp 6'9", mostly using the ER. I don't think ive really punished the board riding, but I have stepped on it repeatedly, and have also slammed it into the side of my swimming pool (practicing my pop up, board went flying and hit the edge a couple times) no dings, no cracks, and it just feels very solid. stepped on it to show some curious surfers, they got this look like, "oh shit, dude, don't break your board" but of course, the board is fine. I think it's stronger than you are suggesting. lib is the main innovator in snowboarding and now they are gonna become a top surf company as well. oh, yeah, their skis and skateboards rock, too.

For Fins I cant express enough how awesome the Futures Rasta fins combined with Ea Blackstix 3.0 rears on a quad setup feels on this board.
Thanks again for another inspiring episode. Great to hear that new materials are being developed that allow custom shapes, but are verging on indestructible. Use of unconventional materials may eventually lead to lighter boards that still retain strength - something I get excited about.
So pumped you're back. Please continue to just be stoked on surfing - your enthusiasm and excitement are contagious. Your stoke is what makes shred show awesome.
I'm amped to hear about Quivers - the price doenst seem too outrageously high as long as you have a month of decent surf. If you end up in a flat spell it might feel like a bit of a waste of money. I'll for sure swing by their shop and check our their selection!

Not exactly a post on the Puddle Jumper but I finally got a chance to take out my new Proctor Hideoscillous at Sebastian Inlet last week. It's been staring at me for a couple months. Sucks to be a surfer in Ohio...
Like Puddle Jumper my Hideo is made out of more nontraditional high tech materials. I ordered mine with their carbon footprint/epoxy "closed cell" foam. Despite paddling in some heavy wind chop (15-20 mph onshore) if felt great. In fact, it paddles better than any of my PU boards. Waves were probably a little out of the board's range (fast moving, chest-head high and wedge-like) but still manage to catch a few gems. Once up on plane, the board hustles down the line. Best board I've ever ridden!
+Peter Dy Oh and just to attest to the durability of the Proctor construction. My girlfriend tried to skewer my board when a wind gust caught our beach umbrella when packing up. The pointed end wacked the rail. Not even a scratch. Baller.
I ride the 5'7". Its floatylishous and rad. The best part is not fixing dings when you drop it or accidentally run it over. Works way better with a quad setup. Too bad FCS 2s don't fit in the boxes.
FCS 2 do fit. They arent tight at all, they slide straight in
I have my Lib Tech in 5'5" and it quickly became one of the boards I incorporated into my everyday quiver. I've surfed this in pumping social surf at lowers and at the smallest ripples at Doheny and quickly found out what makes this board so special. It paddles like an epoxy board with a ton of volume and turns and flys like the PU boards. It goes rail to rail better than any board i own and slams harder in turns as well. I recommend this board to everyone I see and can't stop saying great things about it. Feel free to ask me questions about it you guys have! Shred on. Shred Show is the best!

I have the PJ in Lib Tech and love it! Lots of river mouths where I surf and boards are constantly getting dinged. Now no need to worry! There is one pressure dent, but so far thats it. Highly recommend it

I bought my Lib tech puddle jumper in August and haven't even thought about my longboard since. The construction is solid and feels lively but not too light on the wave. After a dozen or more surfs it still looks new. I think it has one heel dent, I'll have to clean the wax off and check but it's only left my car for surfs. I noticed a rough spot by the nose the other day but after a few surfs I keep checking it to see if there's any salt from water drying out but haven't found anything yet.
I was a bit worried about the play in the fin boxes and shimmed the rear fin when I road it as a thruster to straighten it out. That said, I've had no problems with my first generation FCS fins in it as a quad. Has anyone set up the fins asymmetrically with the closer cluster on their hillside (I'm totally intrigued by Brink Surfboards) and if so how did it feel?
I"m stoked on my Lib and look forward to seeing more collaborations soon.
That's an interesting idea. I would like to know how it rides with an asymmetric fin set up. If anyone has tried it or can try it let the shred nation know.

I love my lib tech bowl in anything from 2 to 8 foot surf. I have managed to ding it by riding onto a dry reef and with the kids climbing over it in the carpool, but since it doesn't take on water I just continue to surf it! My next board will be a lib tech puddle jumper, just waiting for Santa to bring it.
I LOVE Santa! At 200 lbs. I've been riding my 5'9" LTPJ for a couple weeks now. Made friends with it as a quad when riding it backside immediately but found it magical as a thruster for the first time today. Confidence explosion! It has been functional in the slightly overhead waves of this past week, but honestly had more fun and feel when riding the bowl in anything over chest high. It works great in exactly the waves Chris suggests in the review. Quick off the take off with effortless down the line speed and very maneuverable. Loving it. Catches waves as easily as my PU LazyBoy of the same volume with ability to draw tighter lines. Changes direction rapidly but still incredibly stable and predictable. Anticipating more collaboration of world class shapers and this eco friendly/tough construction.

Just cleaned the wax off my board this weekend and there very little pressures on the deck. I surfed the hell out of it past two months. There is just a little indication where I use my knee to duck dive.

My 5'7" LT PJ rides great. Super fast, like a turbo kicks in. #danghardtoding along with Eco-friendly materials (aka clear conscience) are serious features. I stand mine up against the wall and don't have to worry about it falling over.

I agree. I buckled my 1st libtech. Surfing at Fort Point on a small day. But i believe in their product that i bought 2 more. But the worst is its fin box. Both of my 2 year old board had issues with the box. I was told by my repair guy that they have low quality fin box and he showed me the difference side by side. Don’t buy it. I warned you.

+duane hernandez Yes, reduces ding risk and increases break strength. It also makes the board feel less 'chattery' meaning less vibrations resonating through the board, for example in choppy conditions.... This is what I was getting at when you see me whacking the board with my finger and the board doesn't ring like a bell. It sounds almost flat. (see it at 3:30 above) It makes the ride feel smoother and more similar to traditional PU sensations. Not ping pong ball-ish and skittish.

That board looks crazy fun to ride hey cool board you should review is the pylazliane from pyzel I own one man one of the best board I have ever had surfing smaller waves

um, GNU was original company, in 77. after he got screwed by the distribution company that became nitro, they had to make a new company. that's when liberace technologies and mervin manufacturing started. later on they got GNU back. Also, Never Summer (used to be Never) is another major surfboard company made in US.
I have the libtech lost puddle jumper and its definitely my go to board for smaller waves. I've surfed in a variety of conditions but its not well suited to waves a bit overhead with steep drops. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it has so much speed and it turns awesome, I couldn't quite get my head around how you could still go vert on such a flat shape. I got 5'9 which is 37 litres, I weigh 86Kg and I am so addicted to the extra volume its time to flick my other traditional shortboards and get something with lots of volume for good waves overhead to double overhead. So I was thinking of a 6'1 or 6'2 V3 Rocket / Baby Buggy or Sci Fi. Can you clarify whether you thought the baby buggy would be a good compliment to the puddle jumper or is designed for similar waves? PS. Its holding up really well and it doesn't chatter in chop like other epoxies I have ridden.
I would suggest The Short Round as a step up from PJ.
