  • The trail description for this trail is from the perspective od riding up this trail. This is not a climbing trail! Riding in the fall has it benefits and this descent through Lester Park is a good one. Fun trail features, comfortable temps and awesome fall colors.

    Agreed! Can be a bit nerve racking in a few spots. Luckily you met people where you did.

      Yeah, don't run into many riders but that was the ideal spot.

    Just watched this video on the way up to Duluth with Minnesota MTB. This is one of Duluths overshadowed gems and one of the greatest trails in Duluth IMO. It was great running into you this day!

      I like Amity West too. They updated a lot of bridges and it's a fun ride. Also if you climb up West, there is a short cut to get a quick climb to Hawk Ridge.

      @@BrianVaughn Does the shortcut get you to one of the berms ascending up to Hawks? I think I know the shortcut and sometimes take it down. I usually roll up Lester river, do you find Amity West climb to be a better option?

      Amity West had that wood berm bridge. You can hit a short cut to make that climb faster.

    I'll admit to climbing this trail when I ride Hawk's Ridge but you're right, it's a lot of fun going down.

      Next time, take the cutoff to Amity West and climb that upper section. There is a spot you can bypass the majority of Amity West to make it a faster climb.

    This trail rips! I wish they would make it DH only though

      Yeah, that top section should be. I've ridden that jump section as hikers we're walking up. Luckily they heard me coming and stepped off the trail.

      @@BrianVaughn We're spoiled in the Metro with mostly directional trails, and not too many hikers on the trail. All the 2-way trails along the Traverse really remind me of home in La Crosse, and one really great tool is the Timber Bell - you don't have to leave it to luck then. Flip the bell on, rip that jump line and the bell will let others know you're coming. You do kick yourself for riding up Amity East though.

      I think my hubs are my timber bell. We are spoiled in the metro with all the directional trails with very few hikers.

    I've been wanting to do this and Lester area since I road there briefly back in 2008 or something! Odd thing is the trails get damp and wet part way up and I always bail out. I bet now there perfect though with droughish were having--they look it here! I'm going to have to try and fit in Duluth sometime next year but no clue when. Have you hit any of the Split Rock trails yet?? Another area I tried to hit last year with big fail. Thanks!

    • @BrianVaughn
      @BrianVaughn  Рік тому +1

      You should give it a try. There are some fun trails. It's hard to make the time to get up to Split Rock. A bit too far for a day trip. Hopefully next year.

      @@BrianVaughn yeah I'm hour farther south so Duluth is 2 days for me! I'm shooting for June or July as my park ticket will be good until then. Maybe hit split first then come back to Lester area... It's a thought!!
