- In today's video I'm servicing the lower linkage on my mountain bike. Each winter I replace the bearings and pack the link with grease. Santa Cruz will send new bearing to any registered owner of a Santa Cruz bicycle.

Brian, just got a 23' HT3, my first SC bike. Already planning on doing this after next season. Your video will be the basis of my tear down and rebuild. Thx
Thanks for this great walkthrough Brian! I'm going to do this to my 5010 too.
Thanks, I need to do this after winter here in Australia, cheers! 🤙🤙
I need to this exact thing to my Revel Rail. Good stuff dude!
Hey thanks! It really isn't too bad of a process. I can do it in 30 minutes now.
That's nice walkthrough of the process. Every year I think I'm going to service the bearings in my nomad and every year, I pull the shock, cycle the linkage and decide the everything feels pretty smooth and tight and leave it at that haha. Maybe this year I should actually follow through and do it.
You should take the linkage out and spin those bearings. You don't get the pivots squeaking? I swear mine will start making noise after a dozen rides.
@Brian Vaughn Good idea, I will. Surprisingly no squeaking or creaking on that bike.
Great insight, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Good video! I need this done on my bike.
It is pretty easy but can be pain to remove stuck bearings.
@@BrianVaughn I'm pretty good at making things harder than they should be. I also need a bearing press first.
Its nice that SC offers life time bearing replacement, What is the press you are using? On my Blur I got 2 years out of the bearing before replacement. Of the 4 bearings in the lower link only 1 was index shifting on me
It is a Wheels Mfg bearing press. I have parts for the larger and smaller bearings. It is nice SC provides the bearings. I do find the upper link never got too bad and I end up with a lot of extra bearings when you order the kit.
My lower link bolts will NOT come out. I can get the tapered washer out but the bolts after that seem to be stuck. Just don’t want to go over board. Any suggestions?
That sucks. I think you might have to take it to a shop. If you can't loosen the bolts, I'd hate to damage the frame forcing the bolts out. Next time be sure to apply some grease to the threads.
Thanks for this video. Just wondering because you mentioned it before, about the offset headset to slacken the head angle a little bit. Are you still thinking to give it a try on your 5010? If so what brand and kind of headset? Thanks!
I think the Slack-R is the only real option. I don't plan on doing it to this bike. I'm starting to look at my next bike so I won't make any big changes to this bike..
Do you ride a Tallboy? I’m in the Midwest as well and considering purchasing one?
I'm on a 5010. Tallboy is a great ride for the Midwest.
Is that the same park tool grease (HPG?) in that mini gun?
No, it is generic grease.
@@BrianVaughn Thanks for the great video, I think this is way overdue on my Bronson. I'm wondering if I might need the whole kit, or maybe just the bearings.
