I wonder if the Yuht would fall into a xenophobe or xenophile category. They were lonely for years, but when they found life, they were suspicious and everntually terrified (and with good reason)
Problem with the Unbidden happening a few million years before the Yuht is that timeframe makes no sense for life to develop. Life originated on Earth over 4.6 billion years ago, so it would much longer than a few million years to developed life to spring back up.
Not to mention, if the Yuht existed only a few million years before humans found their remains, and the Yuht have existed for a couple million years before even then, then why wasn't life on Earth purged by the Unbidden, since its been around for over 4.6 billion years, shouldn't life have still been here?
If tbe Unbidden absorb all LIFE it should have been made so long before the Yuhts that it's probably more likely that the Yuhts were the first space-faring species period, no?
Considering the existence span of our universe being estimated to be about 13 Billion years, i would assume, that there is a huge amount of other more vast timeframes, where some potential is laying for the rise and fall of intelligent lifeforms, just appearing and dissappearing whithin less than a few thousands or 10thousands of years, and that happening more than over thousands of times, being either harvested by the Unbidden (&other extra-dimensionals), or just literally nuking theirself up with their own tools. And I am just think about on conventional carbon-organic based Lifeforms and their respective ascending-paths, not mentioning any silicon- or gas-based possibilities, which are still on this site of known Energy-Matter-Concept. If you keep looking beyond the secretive barrier of baryonic matter (based on neutron and protons, making up 5% of our universe' EnergyMass), you will find it intriguingly frickling in your brain, that we do not KNOW what kind of "Life" could be out there (dark Matter and Energy)! But i understand your thoughts on this! These Yuhts had been BIG, and long living, and slow in many aspects for sure. Their Growth must be either slow or would have a high need of energy-efficient food. Maybe Algea? Those Species could not become successful, if they has been any other spacefaring species around. That does still not imply, that there was nothing before. Even for that long period of existence, astonishing 2 million years, it is just short compared to the Age of Universe itself. So, I do not think, that Yuhts are first ever space faring species. I guess they just had been lucky to be the first sapient Beings on a Galaxy, which had a total pangalactic Filter-Event more than maybe severel millions or even billion years ago. So the lack of competitive pressure by other empires gave them the time to spread over 2 million years in prosperity, before they got challenged by a species, which is more basal to its homeplanet own evolutionary lineages (means; being smaller and more reproductive, therefore more adaptiv, flexible & quicker to get technology). Beside that a Filter-Event by extra-dimensional Beings would mean the total Erase of Life as it is known, it is actually still a "HARVEST"! So... there is something like a SEED?
Chareidos Good point, but it's not so sure that they couldn't evolve first: after all there are many possible natural filters to spacefaring species, and evolution doesn't seem to push towars intelligence. My main problem is the fact that he says the unbidden destroy ALL LIFE (so if there is no seed or if the seeds are just basic lifeforms and no complex ecosystems with already quite intelligent creatures, which seems very unlikely, then life has to make all its way up to covilization and we have the same context that if we just said Yuhts were the first species to developp apace travel.) and that he says it would have happen a few million years before the Yuhts (Which is ridiculous as they couldn't have developped that fast if what he first sqid is true). Or the Yuhts could have come from another place or be based on silicon or something the jnbidden didn't care about, but there is no evidence for this.
