Not many people consider the grease nipple when they are replacing the cab mounts. Well done that man. This is going to be a magical truck, with such good things done already. of course it is sad to see the Crackerbox depart, but this one is pretty special looking already and I'm sure your fertile mind is producing all manner of marvellous things to do with it.
Thanks Neil, definitely have to have grease to it and possibly some kind of composite bushing if possible which will help soften the ride. And thanks as always for watching 😬👍
That k100 looks like a real diamond in the rough. Anxious to see what you do with it.
Me too lol. 😬
I appreciate your willingness to move on to the next truck in need..not always the easy thing to do. Keep up the good work.
thanks Mark :)
That was a really good video can't wait to see the new fabricated hinge
This next episode will show it
So sad to see the old cracker box go, but I understand the reason and true somebody can enjoy it. Cool that you found the owner of Grasshopper. Dane You are the King of restorations, that truck is in the hands of the master.👍👍👍
I totally agree russ the cracker box is going to a good home for someone else to enjoy Dane will have grasshopper looking awesome in no time can't wait to see it when it is done 😊😊
He is awesome at what he does to these trucks@@shellyweiers121
Thanks Russ and you’re a part of it too 😬👍
Thanks Shelly I’m hoping to drive it to the Jamboree so my work cut out for me. 😬
Dane I hope you had a woderful holiday season. Though I am sorry to see Cracker Box go I am really looking forward to the K100 resto!
I did and thanks. Hopefully it will drive to the Jamboree 😬👍
Good to see you start on the K100. By the way Eastwood has a steering wheel repair kit. I did my 54 Dodge pickup steering wheel and it turned out pretty good.
Awesome thanks! 😬👍
Wow! That truck really is complete! I love the tanks on it!!! The little 80 gallon tanks are super cool! I think the coffee brown on the interior would be sweet. Great Video!
For the cab hinge I would recommend using a pin that has ground grease channels similar to how springs mount at pivots for suspensions. The pin could be drilled from the end to around the middle where it would be cross drilled. You could then tap the end of the pin for a zerk fitting and the grease will get to the middle of the pin preventing seizing. If I had my lathe and mill up and running i would make a set of pins for you but I dont right now.
Yes since it’s 66, earth tones were popular so will stick with the greens Brown frame and beige Budd wheels with the center “moons”. That’s great info on how to make the pins thanks for that! Someday maybe we can meet at a show. Keep workin them Dodges… so cool. 😬👍
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE definitely someday I will be at one of your shows!!!
Kind of sad to see Cracker Jack leave, but life goes on . The K 100 will be interesting, and maybe fun to drive. Ok, for me nearly all big trucks were fun to drive. Just maybe the K 100 will be more fun than the Crackerbox. I think you could have a good welding shop build a new cab mount for much less than used mounts.
Another great video Dane. 😊 Good luck my friend.
Thanks Bert :)
Sad to see the Crackerbox go, but nice seeing progress on "Grasshopper". My 76 K125 has the passenger side (Aus built) cab pivot bolted on top of the forged tow pin mount, while the drivers side is a large forged piece, both pivot and spring hanger part of it bolted to the frame. With little modification a W900a Gullwing will bolt straight up. Grasshopper would look the part with a straight alloy bumper assuming you can find one ? Great vid Dane.
Thanks, will see what I can find or fab. :)
Hey Dane! I kind of felt your heart drop when You were seeing Cracker Box go. I liked the way you moved on to Grasshopper. I did notice the tag on Grasshopper, & noted it was from the Old Dominion; So I kind of like it; I also noticed the cordless drop light you were using with the magnet at the base; I know that because I have one just like it. I bet your happy to have Grasshopper in the lounge with old man winter reminding everyone who's in charge. I still like watching your videos when I get the chance; Because your always going to get a laugh ( It only took 5 hours ) That was a good one. Take care, & I'm going 10-10! 10-4!
10-4 10-4 good buddy...threes on ya ...we gawn! :)
Manly tears shed.!!!!!!
If you'll excuse me......I'm going to put on some Pancho and Lefty and loving look at my picture of a B series Mack😢
lol :)
Man, you broke my heart by letting Crackerjack go. (But at least you appear to have saved the horn cord that fellow made for you and put it in the 359) Anyway I get it. My Dad was always doing that to me in the 60's. He'd get a car or truck I really liked, get really attached to, and then he'd flip it for something else. So I can handle the heartbreak. The '66 is no less historic or worthy.
Sorry to traumatize you all o er again lol. I suspect another Cbox will appear one day 😬👍
The Cracker Box is GONE! A sad day in America 😢
The truck that built a channel.....@@Donald-jm4hi
Oh that vintage Crackerbox from ABF Freight is a classic piece of history! You just have to repaint the yellow lettering on the doors. Glad you found those vintage GMC mudflaps with the vintage spiky GMC lettering. Reminds me of the old GMC lettering on their former truck dealership at 222 Spadina Avenue in downtown Toronto. The dealership moved further west in 1970, but the old dealership remained there until the 1980s. The old lot became a Chinese market with pagodas in the ‘70s.
I actually lettered everything to look like its old and worn. It's not actually an ABF truck but I'm glad its that convincing.
Great vid, wire wool is fantastic on alloys and chrome, thanks for sharing 👍💨💨
Thanks Darren and for watching 😬👍
How is this even possible? That truck was YOU! But….awesome that you’re paying it forward 👍
There's more "You" trucks ahead lol. :)
Cool 😎 video can't wait for the next update 😊
Sad, in a way, to see Crackerbox drive away. Maybe it will turn up at a show one of these days.
He’s only 45 minutes away and planning on coming to the GMC Jamboree 😬
Love your videos your the Best. Thanks and be safe.
Thank you Robert you too. 😬👍
Make sure the cab is in line with the frame and same height from side to side so you get an accurate measurement
Great advice thanks :)
Yes you can save the bumper weld up the cracks smooth her up and recrome it 😎
Sorry to see Cracker JACK go. That truck has been the piller of the truckers lounge from the beginning.
I know but somehow I suspect an even better Cbox will visit the Lounge someday. :)
I have no doubt about that. Only the cool trucks hang out at the Truckers lounge.
Definitely need a bigger shop! Gonna miss Cracker Jack!
Awesome episode as always Dane, your vidoes just get better and better. I loved watching this one especially.
Awesome that Grasshopper is finally inside, that truck and the Pete are just something else!!
Cheers Mike from New Zealand.
Thank you! I appreciate it and your watching. Can't wait to get them both out for fun soon.
Good progress so far!!
Dane sorry to see Crackerbox go. It was always a part of the lounge. I’m sure you will wind up with another one down the road. Best of luck with Grasshopper. God Bless you.
Thanks Frank your probably right.
Well, I bought an old truck and this Saturday I'm flying to GA to get it and then drive it around 10hrs back home to Indiana. Hope I make it no problem. It's an 84 International 4370
Man that’s totally cool, enjoy every bit of the experience good and bad. 😬👍
So Grasshopper is in the garage, but until he's running, everything else seems to be blocked in. Guess that's a good incentive to work hard on Grasshopper.
That bumper is likely too damaged to really look nice again.
Parked it because the owner wasn't happy with the Jimmy Carter administration and fuel prices... a lot of people weren't happy about the economy in 1979!
Looking forward to seeing more progress with Grasshopper.
All good points. It seems like history is repeating itself with the present administration.
@@brianburns7211 History has a nasty habit of repeating certain things.
You’re absolutely right about that my friend and will most likely have my fab guy make a new one. I just have to design it and send the CAD file to him.
Yeah I can't forget interest rates for a home was 17% too 19% back then CRAZY🙃🙃🙃!
"If it can be got, we are gonna get!" As you did with your cab hinge
Yes Sir my friend :)
I hope in the near future I can visit the Truckers lounge with my transtar. Love what you do to these old trucks Dane! Keep up the great work!
Absolutely I’d love to have you… anytime! 😬👍
I personally would love to see that love the old Tran Stars and as always Dane love the content!
Is it a 4070A or Transtar II or conventional? Yes please, we want to see your Transtar at the Truckers Lounge!!! The 4070A is my favorite truck. We need this @DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE
@@MtothaMFJ 1979 4070b cabover. Can't upload a picture here. There is a video of it on UA-cam. John Imburgia
I get attached, like it's a dad burn family heirloom. Good that you have another to come along and consume your attention!
I know…. It happens but I’m always seeing the vision for the next one. 😬👍
Great job Dane it's amazing what a little cleaning will do to make the old truck look better good luck on getting the parts made I think the truck will look great 😊😊😊😊
Thanks much Gerald 😬👍
Dane great video the kw will look great when your done👍
Thanks Dom, appreciate your support. :)
Going to miss that truck but Sarge is still there🌴😎
I know… and yes Sarge is still here to terrorize the neighborhood lol.
This gacked hinge&bracket assembly proves the value of possessing fabrication skills and tools, or having buddies who do and are willing to help you out!
“Grasshopper” has a ton of potential, could very well turn out to be a fantastic hobby truck! Are you planning on full bodywork for the cab and paint?
Well it won’t be free but you’re right I’m blessed to have the fabricator/ welder friend. He’s done tons of projects for me since the 90s. And my buddy “Mr Wizard” is absolutely priceless to have his help and experience/knowledge to assist a wannabe guy like me. And so many others … I’m truly blessed and grateful. I’m not sure of the paintwork yet until I know for sure it’s a runner. Then it’s all stops pulled to make it shine…. However that ends up.
I hope you get a chance to check out the 1/25 scale 69 F100 kit I am working on... It is a beautifully detailed kit and I am hoping to have her buttoned up tomorrow...
Once I get her done there definitely be a video of her on my channel!!
Cool. Nice crackerbox😊
Love your videos always fun to watch.
Thank you Gary I appreciate your watching. 😊
Still has the serious utility theme of the gone GMC.. If it's in the right year bracket they sometimes have a valve that shuts off air to the front brakes for bad weather. Old enough, and some were made without front brakes. Look forward to the smoke & noise :-)
Right, no fronts on this one. 66. Oddly enough the 61 Crackerbox did. 🤷🏼♂️
Another great video Dane! Looking forward to seeing how the K100 turns out. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Stevo, you be careful out on those adventures and maybe you can make the Jamboree again and see it firsthand :)
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE Had a great time the last time. I'm going to try to make it out there again if I am able to!
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 I bet watching that Crackerbox leave was bitter-sweet! Did he remove the stacks to cut down on the height of the truck? Does he live in Ohio as well? It was one cool truck! I bought my old Crackerbox back from my brother, so I might take on getting it running again in the future. I just couldn’t pass up on it! Did you get the KW from a yard that you had recorded previously? I can’t recall when/where you got it for some reason. It was a shame that it has sat for all those years, but I’m glad that you know more history of the truck from the previous owner. That’s so cool! It sure takes me back to the 69 KW K100 that my dad bought. I loved the truck & cried my eyes out when it caught fire. I never could find any pics of it. Love those old KWs! That steering wheel should come out so well when you’re done. Give us all the data on that process. A lot of the internals will have to be rebuilt/replaced if critters lived in it. Using steel wool will give life to a lot of things! It’s coming alive, ONE piece at a time! Great stuff! Your winter will not be dull! Blessings!🥰😎✌️
The buyer is only 45 minutes away and plans on being at the Jamboree with it. Yes we removed the stacks. The KW came from North Carolina. Thanks for watching as always my friend. :) Would love to see your Cbox too.
to fix the cracks in the steering wheel you can use PC7 epoxy putty because you can form it with your hand then you can shape it to the wheel, sand it down then repaint the wheel.
Thanks Andre, where can I get it?
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE my local hardware store carries it but you can order it online maybe Home Depot has it.
Nice start on the cleanup and detail inspection of what you have . Regarding bumper straightening .......Dean Wilhelm of Twinsburg used to have a bumper straightening press 20 years ago.........but he sold the business to Penske this past year .Their servive may.......or may not be available........and affordable . But you may have connections with Roger .
Penske Service may or may not be available.
I will have to check into that Dan, check out episode 5 for the update. Thanks, hope all is well.
Going to miss the Cracker box ,but I understand why you did it
Yepp, someday another will probably appear lol.
Dane it was good talking to you Tuesday. Glad grasshopper is inside .absolutely excellent. Enjoyed the video maybe we can get together next time . Be careful and safe.
Absolutely Mark, you're welcome anytime you come through. Be safe out there Bud! :)
Coming along NICELY DANE , yeah a little time and elbow grease make a big difference, for that fuel tank swap and replacement do I detect a trip to JR's coming up LOL , you may have mentioned in a previous video but other then the frame once all the updates are completed I hope 🤞🤞🤞🤞your planning on leaving the original paint other then maybe a buff , paint still for it's age and sitting looks Great , aways off yet and many more things ahead of this on the "" To Do "" list but I'm thinking 3 Green lenses on the center Roof marker lights ha haha , Great Job Dane , Safe Travels 👍👍👍👍
Absolutely I’ll be seein Junior real soon for a suspension change and tank and air cleaner. Thanks for watching as always buddy. 😬👍
Might be good to have two of those frames made while you're at it, because the other side probably isn't in much better shape. Probably won't be much more for 2 than just one, if made at the same time.
I believe they are different as there is so much more on the drivers side but I may be wrong. It’s hard to see with the cab down.
Hop Hop Hurray , time for The Hopper to Come Out to Play. Im sure we will be seeing the Box Later Down the Road.
or another "Box" lol
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE That Grasshopper name , reminds of the muppet movie when the frog leg chain owner DOC HOPPER was after Kermit.
That tow truck looks to be an old Ford LTL9000!;one of the many "holy grails" in the world of trucks as they are quickly becoming rare and harder to come by,because they just don't make them anymore.
I happen to be working on the AMT 1/24 scale Ford LTL 9000 kit (formerly an Italeri kit) which also happens to be one of the many "holy grails" when it comes to 1/24 & 1/25 scale plastic model big rig kits as there aren't too many kit manufacturers that produces them other than AMT,Revell U.S.A,Revell Germany, and Italeri.
That's actually an 85 R model Mack with the Ecodyne engine. But I agree ...love the Fords :)
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGEFrom the camera angle it didn't look like an old Mack R685.
I was contemplating on buying the AMT 1/24 scale Mack Superliner kit;but my favorite local hobby shop didn't have it,so I settled on the kit that I am currently working on.I was even considering buying the AMT 1/25 scale Mack R685 day cab conventional kit;but my local hobby shop didn't have that kit either.
I would like to see Round2Models reissue the Kenworth K123 COE;and retool & reissue the factory stretched Kenworth K100 Aerodyne COE kit which hasn't been seen in hobby shops for more than 30 to 40 years,as I believe that those two kits would sell like hot cakes.
Hopefully the Crackerbox got a good home...
I notist them 2 kits on youre workbence one kenworth k100 the other a w900 I got the k100 whit the tortionbars nice to see you got them to
Yes, I'm trying to get back at them but the real trucks have priority.
Hope you an family have a great new year how is big dog Pete
Thanks Tommy. Haven’t heard on bigdawg.
Im missing crackerbox allready but ,hell ,leter rip dane
I know…. Being that the Crackerbox is my all time favorite cabover ( w/sleeper & tandem) I wouldn’t be surprised if one shows up here again lol. 😬👍
Eastwood sells a kit to restore steering wheels that includes the epoxy and paint.
Awesome thank you! 😬👍
If you can save the bumper u can rwchrome it advanced plating Knox ville teenna see
Great video prices are crazy on eBay right now some times you can get a good deal but some times you don't 😎
I hear that!
Now you have enough room to really start working on The Grasshopper..
Love yr channel n you do amazing resto ok what color you going to paint it?
More than likely just as it is …. Working on that in my head at the moment lol. And thank you for watching 😊
Road salt eats cab brackets up
and rain water sitting in the pocket for years.
I said goodbye to my LTL this week and replaced it with a 1978 k125 so sad to see someone else driving her away 😢😢
I know but the good news is always I get to experience different trucks.
Kinda looks like it might need blower seals what do you think? Its coming along pretty well. You are a very thorough, detail oriented trucker. Congrats.
Thanks Bill, I can’t wait to get past the hinge so I can find out. Thank you 😬👍
You might check to see if the early freightliner neoprene bushings would work on those hinges. From what I can see, the hole size looks about the same as my old 68 Freighttliner when we replaced them.@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE
Great video and update. I didn’t see Sarge. Is he behind the lift with the cars on it?
He's outside unfortunately but he's a tuff ole goat lol.
You know that tow truck driver probably can’t see you inside the shop cause of the light difference
Good point
I know you sold Cracker Jack but you got to at least keep Sarge he's a good old Detroit you got to keep as many of them as possible
Don’t worry Cory Sarge gives me more of a thrill than the Cbox believe it or not. He’s not goin anywhere soon.
Hey Dane, what size Building do you have there? Looking to build something soon.
It’s a 30x50 with an additional 12x20 on the back.
Better off scraping the chassis and find a good roller and swap the cab all those parts are obsolete in the rears just took a 4 bag kenworth suspension to the scrap yard
Will be putting a spring tandem suspension/axles under it instead of cutoff. Long as the engine is ok.
I,f got sevral cab over trucks waiting to be bild, all in good time i say.
Yepp, at our pace 😬👍
Dane, what's that place across the street from you that has the old Texaco stuff?
That just an antique collector?
That’s my place 😬
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE cool🍻🤠 have a great weekend
What happened to the kw you bought in Pa
I traded it for the 1971 359. I missed having a 359 way too much after owning “JoyRide”. Plus I knew I had this one to restore and enjoy.
Did the green gear shift handle go with the Cracker Box?
Yes it did Kerry, it was part of the whole vibe the buyer wanted.
