Man you are cooking along! That body is in truly great shape considering the use the truck has gone through. I like that you are keeping the original paint scheme, or at least the one that the truck had for many years. That brown looks great on the frame too! Great work!

Wow, Dane...when you pulled that UPS Mack cabover "out of the bag", I just about fell out of my chair!!! Who'd ever thought we'd see another one of those??? Yep...there was a time when those tall UPS "bad boys" were everywhere...all of 'em "weed burners", by the way. UPS, in their "one-of-a-kind" way, spec'd trucks unlike anybody else, dominating the list of "spotting features" for truck followers everywhere. Awesome "Grasshopper" update, as usual...you have such a special way of making us all feel like we're part of the "program". Thanks so very much...

Had my Corned Beef and Cabbage whilst I watched a green truck being reborn. My dad was the first of his family born in America. They came from Austria after the war. My mother's from the coal cracking country above Scranton PA. I think there's Emerald Island folks in that mix. She always said, "" Heinz variety "" when asked! I think it's a great idea to honor the members of Grasshoppers family heritage by returning him to his own glory. You're the latest adopted member of the Grasshopper Club. Carry on! I love those old UPS single axle day-cabs pulling doubles!! I grew up a mile from I70, and we used to take 70 East to Pennsyltucky and West Virginia to see my parents' parents, and I was truck watching - how I wish I'd had a camera. But I can tell you that UPS was still running Crackerboxes and even White 5000s (look up that goofy truck!) into the late '70s and early '80s, and I never knew what either of those trucks were because UPS always debadged them. I couldn't identify the Crackerbox without a sleeper on it, and I never knew/found out what the White 5000 was until I got the internet and found Hank's Truck Pictures. The White 7000 I could identify, as it was one of the first trucks I noticed as a small child, as they were used by Krogers and Liberal Markets grocery stores in my hometown. UPS definitely ran all different kinds of tractors back then, and always debadged.

Something you might try when spraying large areas with a rattle can is spray in a different direction each coat. Horizontally, next coat vertical, next coat diagonal. Sometimes that works well for me. Your doing a great job. Can't wait to see it finished. Love the color choice too.

I drove one of those Int'l 4300, day cab with an 18 spd for a local gasoline hauler. It would pull anything very easy, the head gasket blew on the PA. Turnpike.

You are correct on the ups Mack’s, I’m a ups mechanic and have heard the stories from the old timers at work that said they used to fire up those old Mack’s and the weed burners would fill the center where I’m at with diesel smoke while they built up air to pull out on there run. They also said they had hyd clutches which would bleed off as you where trying to back into the building to park so you had to be quick so you’d have a full clutch to park gently without smacking the dock

Grasshopper is coming out great, i see the rubber cab skirting is a little dry. 52-149 is the part number for the roll i bought for my 93! Thanks for another great video!

@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE Its made by pacer performance, i got my roll off amazon because it was the cheapest option. its also available on their website and ebay as well! just have to make sure the dimensions are the same width wise!

O-H-I-O Porters🇺🇸 Dane, I really like the idea of changing/adding the Movin On style to GH. Really, either scheme would be appropriate, but you kinda have to go with your gut on that. I can relate to that certain color that is RIGHT for the truck. I’m glad that grill frame came off so well. Are the light buckets still in good enough shape? They seem to be, but it seems that there might be some small pit holes in that area that might weaken the piece. Hey, I think you can deal with whatever comes up, since you’re a good craftsman. And you also have plenty of qualified buddies to help you. I can’t wait to see this truck. Maybe we will have to arrange an earlier get together. My dad had a 69 K100 & I wonder what differences there were between the years. The exhaust routing is gonna be interesting. Good stuff my friend! 🥰🤩✌️
Thanks Paul, I’ll have to replace the both headlight assemblies but I have some on hand. I’d rather go new as SLC Lighting who makes and made them for the industry for decades is located a half hour away.
I’m gonna keep the scheme it’s worked in most of its life though it’s not the factory one. It’ll be a blessing for those who know the truck to see it as it is supposed to be. I think that’s more important than my own fantasies sometimes lol. 😊

You should buy a HVLP paint gun. They have them for under $20.00 at Harbor Freight and they do a great job. Bad Chad uses them. It would be much cheaper and faster than the rattle cans. Just a thought. Keep up the good work. I love your channel.

Like I said before, the arrows would be busy looking. Keeping Grasshopper's paint scheme original is a better idea. I'm really digging the two shades of green, looks really sharp.

There was a 79 kw long noise on market place that was painted just like the kw that was in moving on sweet looking rig from the pics, can't wait to see yours done keep up the great work bring these old trucks back to life

As you say your paint job may not be professional, but without a doubt its going to look very good. I have a body shop near me, and you do better work with primer than they do with the top coat. Grasshopper is looking very good Sir.

"Tiger striping." I think that's the painter's term for that rattle-can streaking you mentioned - and I think it can still be a problem even when you use a real paint gun. Though I believe that a wider spray pattern is a good way to avoid tiger striping, or at least reduce its opportunity to occur. (I used to think that you used an airbrush on these trucks.) You can try less overlap, or stopping and shaking the can more often. Or if you're trying to be frugal with the paint, try going for thicker coats. I first stumbled upon tiger striping when painting a pair of doors for an '84 Capri RS 5.0 black, using the old big Duplicolor cans, twenty five years ago. And then the first time I heard that term, I knew exactly what it meant...
Thanks Dan, I’ve tried a few different ways with same results. I think first it has to do with the metallic in the paint which seems to wanna move around especially if I clear it too soon. Also this paint dries really fast and a spray can can’t put out the volume to keep it wet enough to “melt” together as a normal spray gun. That being said I love how it’s looking.
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE If it happens with a solid non-metallic paint, then it's a product of spray-pattern and overlap, but if it occurs with a metallic, then it could be due to that, or to the metallic agents concentrating in one part of the mixture, or both.
Some have had success spraying out vehicles with those airless sprayers they have today.

I'd like to run an idea by you for a future video. Can you talk about how you plate and insure the old rigs? I was at one BMV already and they were telling me i cant plate my rig as an antique vehicle due to its weight. Yet I know people who have historical plates on big trucks!

Hey I bought a new GMC pickup and it had those caps and I was at work and some one stole one of my chrome caps but at least they put a dull one in its place and l didn't even notice it until I washed talking about mad l was 😢

I wonder what the plans are for torsion bar suspension? my 74 had 1 it was not good . But for a show truck it would be fine ,Adjust the height low as it can be .

Yes I want too. I have a brand new pair that I bought for my 79 and they were about 1/4” too small. They are the same on this one as well. Now I’m afraid to waste the money taking a chance again. 😡🤷🏼♂️
